The wait staff was great. Throughout our meal we were offered fresh baked items from the kitchen and extremely friendly service. If I could mention one thing it would be that the food, although very good, could have had a bit more flavor. When i go to Carnegie again, I will go there. It was a wonderful restaurant. They bake their own bread and it is delicious. They also bring fresh baked chocolate chip cookies to the table, a nice touch.Steak mashed potatoes, california roll and brick chicken all great choices. Simple fish entrees now start in the $32+ range, a lackluster baby lettuce salad with goat cheese, (but only a single, half-dollar-size slice of it), ran in the double-digits. Wine by the glass ran $11 and up. For our main course my date and I ordered plain broiled fish, and that's what we got, smallish and sharing the plate only with a tablespoon or so of garnish. Sides, if we wanted them, were extra. They even charge for bread, which we passed up. With a shared dessert, a glass of wine each and tip, my check for two was over $175. We had a reservation for 6pm, when we were promptly seated. Our server was extremely friendly and knowledgable about the menu, and after he took our order, he asked if we had anywhere else to be. We had tickets to a concert at Carnegie Hall, conveniently located across the street, and the restaurant made sure we were at the venue on time. Our food was excellent - I had the clam chowder and braised short ribs (melt-in-your-mouth amazing), and my husband had the oysters and the ribeye which was cooked to perfection.
