The food was very good, the service intermediate. We were seated next to an aisle and spent the entire dinner with waiters rushing past us. If we would return, I would make sure I was seated far away from the main server routes.

A dear old friend of mine lives abroad and every October comes to NYC on a business trip, he misses good American Bistro style food, and REDEYE Grill is one of his favorite spots, if for nothing else but the amazing Lobster Cobb Salad. As far as great American Bistro's that would include some of Chicago's finest, REDEYE stands on it's own with need to compare. If you want steak and lobster and an over sized amazing hot dog, then The REDEYE Grill is your premier dinning choice.

They loved it - the musicians, great food, upbeat and bright atmosphere. Out waiter was awesome. We started with wine and immediately warm chocolate chip cookies arrived. I expect tables nearby were on dessert, but what a great pre-appetizer. The chef was very accommodating and prepared a meal that was not on the menu. This is a great pre-theatre destination and as good afterwards when there's no rush.

We ordered the crispy artichokes and they were so crispy we couldn't even chew them. Our server said that was they way they were supposed to be. Everyone around us got bread at the start of the meal, our waiter forgot. Our drinks were great but it took us 3 requests to get lemon twists. Finally, we ordered the crab legs which were only slightly warm. Lastly, the waiter never came by to ask how the meal was. Overall, the ambience of the restaurant was very nice but the service and food was disappointing especially given the cost of the meal. Not planning on returning.

Went with a friend to celebrate my birthday - had a reservation - greeted with a smile and immediately sat - wonderful waiter - quick service and a fantastic meal - we had the trout and the lobster/crab ravioli with the special mashed potatoes (could have made a meal on them alone - sooo good) - my friend told the waiter it was my birthday so out comes the Banana Cream Pie with a sparkler on top and the waiters singing Happy Birthday - It was a great meal and great time!!

Although a nice, comfortable room, the tables are pretty close together. The menu is superior except for the prices. Even by NYC standards the cost for three people was pretty steep. The food was good but not spectacular. The cocktails were pricey as well and highballs were skimpy on the booze. I. Would go back if for nothing else but the herb fresh cut fries.

The service was good but not excellent like usual. I had asked for tartar sauce to accompany my Cod but it did not come with the fish, much later, after many reminders, after I was almost done with the entree The rolls were late too, and when they passsed arounb the frech cookies, we were just starting out main course, but he never returned. Thserver was busines like and efficient, not gracious and solicitous. I should mention that the Copd and the cheesecake were outstanding. There were 2+ fried oysters with the salad, and that was a little chincy, for $5 extra. Weree they fresh or canned?

We stayed just across the street from this restaurant and decided to stop over for lunch. We were vacationing in the city so we splurged far more than normal. No lie this place is pricey, but we both had a few drinks, he had a filet and I had a lobster roll. Lobster roll...sounds food truck-ish right??? Not this place. A full 1 pound of gorgeous chunks of lobster in a sweet butter sauce. So decadent I took half of it home (along with a piece of chocolate cake!). Food was amazing and service was fantastic. Spend the $$$ You get what you pay for!

They were short staffed on a Friday night. Service painfully slow, but they did comp our drinks to try to make up for it. The food was the biggest disappointment. It seems like they use cheaper ingredients....the jumbo lump crab was definitely not jumbo crab, although the 3 shrimp were large and good but not worth $42. The risotto was bland as was the crispy tuna sushi roll. The management tried to make things better for us and it seemed other tables too. Unfortunately, you don't get a second chance to make a first impression.......we won't be back!

Dependable food and service. Great location. Nice to have a Manhattan spot that is reliably good, and offers a range of option, including (of course!) excellent fish. Also nice to have a place where tables and diners are not so close together to allow you to participate in other peoples' conversations! We were surprised at the poor quality of the bread offered before dinner, but otherwise a solid experience. Perhaps a bit overpriced...

After more than a year visiting Redeye, the space looks great, but the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered salads and sandwiches and they took so long to arrive that the server even apologized. One sandwich order came incorrectly prepared and the lobster cobb salad was tasteless. The room was half full on a Tuesday afternoon at 12:45....I now understand why.

Steak frites was the worst meal for lunch I've ever had in NYC It came disguised with lots of sauce, which i immediately scraped off. It was so salty that, even though I tried to eat from the other end, it was not to be. It was so tough that the steak knife could not cut it. Manager came over and gave me another replacement. Sauce on the side. Didn't matter. I don't believe I should have to saw through this meat which was an extremely low cut of meat. Iced tea was so weak. Guess there was a shortage of tea bags. This meal was $48. (Are they kidding?) This is a tourist trap. Should have gone to Marseilles.

We had dinner reservations for the evening, but four of us stopped in for a mid-afternoon cocktail. It was very attractive from the street and inside is simply gorgeous: very modern, big, and bright in the afternoon, but more subdued for dinner, fabulous atmosphere. Caroline, our bartender, was wonderful: friendly, knowledgeable and she makes awesome French martinis. Appetizers with the drinks were delicious: gorgonzola flatbread and fried artichokes. Dinner was equally rewarding: there were seven of us and we ordered everything from raw bar and sushi to short ribs, chicken, pasta and a huge hot dog...and it was delicious! Gina took fabulous care of us: so friendly, and knew the menu inside-out. And don't skip the marvelous desserts!

It's hard to beat this restaurant. Yes it's New York and there are hundreds of restaurants. Red eye grill is consistent year after year. If you're new ask the fantastic wait staff what's good. They will never let you down. If you're a repeat customer I don't need to say anything. You know what you like. Specials are just that special. They have yet to dissappoint. Shell fish is outstanding not sure ask the wait staff they're that good. Oh all most forgot cookies and candy at the reception desk are free!!! And ridiculously good, they don't care if you take a fist full, before and after. All we have to say is thank you again for an absolutely fantastic dinning experience.

Redeye is a gem! Love the food. Lobster potpie and the banana creme pie are some of the best we've ever eaten. Our problem that night was once we arrived we were told we would have to be out in an hour and a half as they had a "buy-out" of the restaurant at that time. I had made our Opentable reservation weeks in advance and feel we should have been called to alert us to that fact. We were rushed to say the least. It was not a relaxing experience. We will go back (have reservations in a couple of weeks with an out-of-town visitor) but feel we weren't treated in a professional manner that evening.
