Diner Reviews
  • "While visiting New York City recently, I remembered a wonderful experience from the RedEye Grill from years ago when I often traveled through that great city. So, I made a reservation for this trip! It was a beautiful Saturday evening, and we could eat out of doors and it was just a lovely experience. My friend ordered their fabulous Caesar Salad, and I ordered the Sesame Tuna over grilled brussel sprouts and greens. It was cooked to perfection, and it melted in my mouth! I ordered one of the finest Long Island Ice Teas in all of NYC in my opinion! Next time I am in the city, I fully intend to visit again!"

  • "Only complaint was oysters and clams were small and tasteless. Rest of seafood was excellent. Pricey. But fun for a special occasion."

  • "Great find for choosing on line. We were in New York from Baltimore to see Cabaret. We enjoyed the ambiance, our great meals and the service was impeccable. Our waitress Gina was very personable and attentive and while speaking with her we learned she was also born and raised in Baltimore....what a coincidence. She moved to NY to follow her dream of acting and succeeded! Would highly recommend the Redeye Grille for a great pre-theatre dinner or for any occasion. Again a good find and thanks Gina for the great service and good conversation!"

  • "I have eaten here many times and when I recently had the pleasure of enjoying lunch w/my son, we were not disappointed. I had the lobster roll special and my son had the braised short ribs. Both were excellent. We had an early lunch, 12pm, and enjoyed the excellent service and quiet atmosphere. The noise level picks up with additional diner, but never above a conversation diminishing din. Redeye Grill still a great open and airy place to enjoy great food, service with friends or family."

  • "My husband ordered the Ribeye and it was very flavorful and cooked perfectly! We would definitely go back on our next visit to NYC."

  • "I have been going to Redeye grill for over a decade, but hadn't been in a few years and I feel a bit dissapointed. The food was delicious as always, but the place seemed screaming out for a makeover. On a Wednesday night at 7 PM they were maybe at 75% capacity. The service was pleasant but our waiter seemed to vanish for long periods of time, leaving us a bit frustrated. It is still a good spot for a business meal, group, or pre-theater, but I doubt I'll be back for any other reason."

  • "Second time at Redeye, and it could not have been a lovelier evening. Of course, it was July 4th, so the restaurant was not crowded, but the service was friendly and generous, the food perfect. An expensive evening, but worth it."

  • "Had not been at the restaurant in a while and I ordered the $ 27 Nicoise salad with seared Ahi Tuna. I was very disappointed. 4 small pieces of Tuna, lots of greens, 2 or 3 string beans,1/2 hard boiled egg with soupy yolk. I anchovy buried under all the greens. No where worth the money ! Although the service seemed attentive when I first sat down, waiter never came back after our meal was served to ask how everything was and I had to ask for fresh pepper. All and all disappointed with food and service although still love the décor and atmosphere."

  • "I hadn't been to the Red Eye grill in a decade, but I was pleasantly surprised when I returned this week. The food is somewhat overpriced, but it was delicious and nicely presented. The wait staff was, overall, great, although we did have some trouble finding someone at one point. I'd recommend this highly and will return!"

  • "We went with the intention of having a nice meal, which we did, but we sat outside and the service level was below par. We had to ask for the waiter to take a drink order. There were only 3-4 tables out there being serviced, so there wasn't a line of table service. The waiter service was slow. This does not include the assistants, who were constantly there. The weather made us forget the below par service. That was the only disappointing part of the expensive meal."

  • "Very poor service. No manager table touch and when I paid cash they didn't even try to bring my change or receipt . Food over priced."

  • "We ate here two days. The first day I had stake and my wife had crab cakes. It was probably the best we have ever had. The next day we sat at the sushi bar and had sushi. It was hands down amazing. Those guys really know what they are doing."

  • "I love coming here for seafood before going to Carnegie Hall or other events in this neighborhood. The food is always good, the wait staff is professional, and when I have a reservation I'm never made to wait."

  • "We started with the Smoked Salmon Flatbread which was light and tasty. We were served various breads that had little flavor without adding some olive oil. We followed that with the Jumbo Lump Crab California Sushi Roll. It was good, not great, and overpriced for a standard size roll. My guest had the Braised Short Ribs over mashed potatoes and green beans, which was a generous portion and delicious. I ordered the individual seafood platter. It was quite small and overpriced as well. The tuna tartar on the platter was dry and tasteless! The piece of Yellowtail sashimi had little taste. The fresh baked mini chocolate chip cookies served at the end of the meal was a nice touch. Go for the ambiance and scene. Order food carefully."

  • "I specifically went to this restaurant for its New York Strip Steak and was not disappointed. Medium rare, juicy and well presented. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, perfect. 1st course arrived within 10 minutes of the order. Main course about 15 minutes later. I had a great meal at a reasonable price. I like to east food without masking the taste with wine. This steak had all the flavours that I expected with the unexpected balsamic marinade to boost the experience. I would definitely recommend steak lovers not to miss this experience. Watching people is the ambience best expected at this venue. Not once did I feel like checking my iPhone out of boredom!"

  • "Went to dinner with a 6:30pm Saturday evening reservation. Perhaps being pre-show at Carnegie Hall, and due to a wedding party, the restaurant was very, very noisy. Our group of 4 could not converse without frequently repeating ourselves. After 8pm the noise abated. One guest enjoyed the chicken entrée, all found the pretzel and sesame bread to be disappointing (inedible was the consensus). The Caesar salad was good, but the spicy tuna roll was a disappointing in flavor and presentation. If you're interested in a classic chop house type restaurant, this could be a good choice if you're towards the front of the restaurant where there are windows and visible street activity. However, probably not the spot for a quiet romantic meal."

  • "Redeye Grill is a mid town gem that's why I keep coming back! Their menu offers a wide array of great tasting dishes that steak lovers and vegetarians can truly enjoy. A fully stocked bar with a lounging area with a piano playing - one can relax after a tough day at work! In the summer time tables are set up outside so customers can enjoy dining alfresco. This is also a great lace to take your out of town guests and get a good flavor not only of the food but of the City itself that's always fibrant, high energy and diverse."

  • "The salmon was wonderful. My friend had the salmon special and he said it was great. I had the salmon with pecan sauce which was a menu item. It was cooked perfectly rare as requested. Just terrific. The service was excellent--caring without being overbearing-Loved the bread too-"

  • "Everything about our lunch was great! Service, food, ambience terrific. Seated in a small area--very cozy. Noise level minimal. Always try to dine there before the theater."

  • "We got a great table outside. Our server was great. I ordered the 14 ounce NY Strip Medium Rare. When it first came out, it was rare. The second time it came out, it was rare. The third time it was well done. It should not be that difficult, to cook a steak medium rare. There are better places for a steak in NYC."

  • "Food is good, but the prices are too high. The outdoors and location (Carnegie Hall, MOMA , Fifth Avenue) make the restaurant the best choice. Service is excellent."

  • "Nice ambience, the service was attentive but the food was very expensive and nothing to remember. My wife had chicken schnitzel which seemed to be a deep fried flattened breast. The menu described the accompaniment as "sweet pea mashed potatoes". It should have read mashed potatoes with a few peas on it. The schnitzel came dry with no sauce and overall was uninspiring. We paid more here for 2 people than many restaurants we have been to in New York and given the pedestrain food this was disappointing. Maybe other selections would have been better becuase th erestauarant seemed busy enough. They must do something well. It is not that the food was terrible. It was just nothing special which is what we look forward to when we dine in NYC."

  • "Nice quiet place between times square and central park. Nice atmoshpere, clean well dressed decor. Food was very good and waitstaff was pleasant and prompt. Was a slow night for them but the quiet and cozy ambience was exactly what we were looking for that night."

  • "Everything is alacart... Which is fine- we were celebrating and willing to spend the money. The service was subpar- the waiter had am arrogance that was not deserved. He was inattentive, dismissive and never around when you needed him. The food was average- definitely not worthy of 50 dollar for an 8 ounce filet -that price doesn't even include salad and side item. Don't waste your time or money on this place."

  • "We have all frequented this restaurant before and have never been disappointed. We appreciate the quality and we appreciate that the restaurant never seems to rush its customers. "

  • "I ordered the diver scallop appetizer. When it arrived here's what I found on my plate: one scallop and one stalk of asparagus. I'm not exaggerating. That's all. The scallop was good not great. The rest of the meal was just as unimpressive. Service was no-where-to-be-found."
