Diner Reviews
  • "A most pleasant experience. White table cloths, an assorted menu, good wine choice by the glass and even half bottles. Matzo ball soup in a miso broth was excellent as was the halibut. The server had great personality and was helpful re dietary needs. Being next door to Carnegie Hall makes it a good pre-theater venue. A most pleasant evening!"

  • "My out of town guests were very pleased with The Redeye Grill. The staff was so friendly and sharp. The atmosphere was elegant, but casual and comfortable. Most importantly, the food was excellent. I have always enjoyed this restaurant, and will definitely return."

  • "We had read about their seafood appetizer for 2-3 so we had a salad and had the appetizer as our meal and my wife and I could not finish the appetizer because it was so large. The seafood was fresh and excellent!"

  • "As always, consistent & excellent In everyway. This has become a favorite for myself & co-workers."

  • "After more than a year visiting Redeye, the space looks great, but the food left a lot to be desired. We ordered salads and sandwiches and they took so long to arrive that the server even apologized. One sandwich order came incorrectly prepared and the lobster cobb salad was tasteless. The room was half full on a Tuesday afternoon at 12:45....I now understand why."

  • "Each year I come to New York and dine at Redeye. I noticed a change in the caliber of food this time. It might have been a fluke but my stay in the City is so short that I would have to reconsider my dining reservations next year."

  • "Steak frites was the worst meal for lunch I've ever had in NYC It came disguised with lots of sauce, which i immediately scraped off. It was so salty that, even though I tried to eat from the other end, it was not to be. It was so tough that the steak knife could not cut it. Manager came over and gave me another replacement. Sauce on the side. Didn't matter. I don't believe I should have to saw through this meat which was an extremely low cut of meat. Iced tea was so weak. Guess there was a shortage of tea bags. This meal was $48. (Are they kidding?) This is a tourist trap. Should have gone to Marseilles."

  • "We enjoyed the Redeye Grill as always -- food really very good, albeit expensive. Waiter was charming, helpful and on point (so much so that he ran a block down 7th Avenue to bring me my sweater that I had left in the booth!)."

  • "We went pre-theater. Sat outside. Patio is above street level which made it very appealing. Attentive service. Rib-eye was excellent. Very good cocktail by their mixologist. I'd go back."

  • "We always make a point of eating here when we visit NYC. Food and service is always great. Only complaint is we want to see the Red Plane back!"

  • "We had dinner reservations for the evening, but four of us stopped in for a mid-afternoon cocktail. It was very attractive from the street and inside is simply gorgeous: very modern, big, and bright in the afternoon, but more subdued for dinner, fabulous atmosphere. Caroline, our bartender, was wonderful: friendly, knowledgeable and she makes awesome French martinis. Appetizers with the drinks were delicious: gorgonzola flatbread and fried artichokes. Dinner was equally rewarding: there were seven of us and we ordered everything from raw bar and sushi to short ribs, chicken, pasta and a huge hot dog...and it was delicious! Gina took fabulous care of us: so friendly, and knew the menu inside-out. And don't skip the marvelous desserts!"

  • "It's hard to beat this restaurant. Yes it's New York and there are hundreds of restaurants. Red eye grill is consistent year after year. If you're new ask the fantastic wait staff what's good. They will never let you down. If you're a repeat customer I don't need to say anything. You know what you like. Specials are just that special. They have yet to dissappoint. Shell fish is outstanding not sure ask the wait staff they're that good. Oh all most forgot cookies and candy at the reception desk are free!!! And ridiculously good, they don't care if you take a fist full, before and after. All we have to say is thank you again for an absolutely fantastic dinning experience."

  • "Redeye is a gem! Love the food. Lobster potpie and the banana creme pie are some of the best we've ever eaten. Our problem that night was once we arrived we were told we would have to be out in an hour and a half as they had a "buy-out" of the restaurant at that time. I had made our Opentable reservation weeks in advance and feel we should have been called to alert us to that fact. We were rushed to say the least. It was not a relaxing experience. We will go back (have reservations in a couple of weeks with an out-of-town visitor) but feel we weren't treated in a professional manner that evening."

  • "The service was SO SLOW - we probably waited almost an hour for our first course and another half hour for the main course. Plenty of waiters running around with not that many tables, so it didn't make sense."

  • "Service and food here are excellent. They have a very welcoming atmosphere and I did not want to leave. It ranks at the top of my list."

  • "Y'all were very accommodating when my spouse asked to substitute lobster for the crab cake on the benedict item at brunch on Sunday. So sorry the scaffolding is up as we could not dine outside."

  • "Visiting midtown was hectic and the Redeye Grill was a welcome respite. Big airy room, brisk service with added cheese biscuits and oatmeal cookies brought t the table by the captain were soothing and sublime. THe wine list was solid and the food was fresh and flavorful. Our waitstaff made solid suggestions and were spot on. Price was comparable to other fine midtown places and we would gladly return."

  • "Our service was outstanding, the food was terrific, and we were able to get out in plenty of time to get to our show on time. Always delicious and dependable."

  • "Redeye's fare is consistent--good. I took 5 out-of-town business associates, all of whom truly enjoyed their meals. The big hit at the table were the watermelon gazpacho, which was simply delightful and the lobster lasagna."

  • "While visiting New York City recently, I remembered a wonderful experience from the RedEye Grill from years ago when I often traveled through that great city. So, I made a reservation for this trip! It was a beautiful Saturday evening, and we could eat out of doors and it was just a lovely experience. My friend ordered their fabulous Caesar Salad, and I ordered the Sesame Tuna over grilled brussel sprouts and greens. It was cooked to perfection, and it melted in my mouth! I ordered one of the finest Long Island Ice Teas in all of NYC in my opinion! Next time I am in the city, I fully intend to visit again!"

  • "Only complaint was oysters and clams were small and tasteless. Rest of seafood was excellent. Pricey. But fun for a special occasion."

  • "Great find for choosing on line. We were in New York from Baltimore to see Cabaret. We enjoyed the ambiance, our great meals and the service was impeccable. Our waitress Gina was very personable and attentive and while speaking with her we learned she was also born and raised in Baltimore....what a coincidence. She moved to NY to follow her dream of acting and succeeded! Would highly recommend the Redeye Grille for a great pre-theatre dinner or for any occasion. Again a good find and thanks Gina for the great service and good conversation!"

  • "I have eaten here many times and when I recently had the pleasure of enjoying lunch w/my son, we were not disappointed. I had the lobster roll special and my son had the braised short ribs. Both were excellent. We had an early lunch, 12pm, and enjoyed the excellent service and quiet atmosphere. The noise level picks up with additional diner, but never above a conversation diminishing din. Redeye Grill still a great open and airy place to enjoy great food, service with friends or family."

  • "I have been going to Redeye grill for over a decade, but hadn't been in a few years and I feel a bit dissapointed. The food was delicious as always, but the place seemed screaming out for a makeover. On a Wednesday night at 7 PM they were maybe at 75% capacity. The service was pleasant but our waiter seemed to vanish for long periods of time, leaving us a bit frustrated. It is still a good spot for a business meal, group, or pre-theater, but I doubt I'll be back for any other reason."

  • "Second time at Redeye, and it could not have been a lovelier evening. Of course, it was July 4th, so the restaurant was not crowded, but the service was friendly and generous, the food perfect. An expensive evening, but worth it."

  • "Had not been at the restaurant in a while and I ordered the $ 27 Nicoise salad with seared Ahi Tuna. I was very disappointed. 4 small pieces of Tuna, lots of greens, 2 or 3 string beans,1/2 hard boiled egg with soupy yolk. I anchovy buried under all the greens. No where worth the money ! Although the service seemed attentive when I first sat down, waiter never came back after our meal was served to ask how everything was and I had to ask for fresh pepper. All and all disappointed with food and service although still love the décor and atmosphere."

  • "I hadn't been to the Red Eye grill in a decade, but I was pleasantly surprised when I returned this week. The food is somewhat overpriced, but it was delicious and nicely presented. The wait staff was, overall, great, although we did have some trouble finding someone at one point. I'd recommend this highly and will return!"

  • "We went with the intention of having a nice meal, which we did, but we sat outside and the service level was below par. We had to ask for the waiter to take a drink order. There were only 3-4 tables out there being serviced, so there wasn't a line of table service. The waiter service was slow. This does not include the assistants, who were constantly there. The weather made us forget the below par service. That was the only disappointing part of the expensive meal."
