Diner Reviews
  • "Dinner reservations at 7:00...I'm literally the first and only person in the whole restaurant until my date arrives. I thought they were closed. At 7:00 on a Saturday night, that's a really bad sign. The prices were not outrageous, but they weren't cheap either, with tip $21.00 for a glass of red wine and a rum and coke...seems a little over the top. The food and the service was just okay. I really expect you to be on point with this kind of pricing and they just weren't."

  • "Three of us locals get together every now and then for lunch or brunch and we have heard about Redemption so we finally tried it and it was fabulous! Owner was on site, the service was the best and the food was superb. We had the succulent flash fried oysters appetizer and blt salad to start and the crab cake Benedict and salmon were cooked to perfection. Good friends, good food and guitarist strumming gently in the background!"

  • "The ambiance is wonderful with a wonderful piano player and soft music. The mushroom appetizer was very tasty but was only warm. It would have been fabulous if served hot. My entree was the fish of the day which again was only lukewarm and was not the freshest. The asparagus was overcooked but also cool. The risotto was again delicious but was only warm. I find this lack of attention to the quality of the food presented to be inexcusable and unnecessary. The wait staff was wonderful and accommodation and the owner walked around before our meal and welcomed us, a nice touch."

  • "Being locals I'm sorry we waited so long to try this gem. We had a wonderful meal--especially the portobello appetizer, and delightful entrees. The staff was attentive in helping me select gluten-free options and an excellent wine. Altogether it was a lovely evening. We will definitely be back."

  • "A wonderful dining experience, with superb cuisine, excellent drink and wine service, a charming chef in Gregg Piccolo, and a great server in Kirkland. The starters were delicious, including the pate in brioche, eggplant sticks, and flash fried oyster bruchetta. We shared taste of our three entrees. The stuffed shrimp and Gulf fish were outstanding. My flounder on a bed of stuffed mirliton, with an incredibly good dark, rich crayfish sauce was to die for. And desserts! The pistachio cheesecake was lovely, light rather than dense; the strawberry crepes were great; and, wow, the dark chocolate crème brulee was magnificent."

  • "Had my wife's birthday here with about 16 people, and they were very accommodating! The food was fantastic, great servers and all our friends loved the look of the place being an old church. Definitely would go back! "

  • "This was our first trip to this restaurant. We found parking to be easy. The ambiance was very nice. The noise level, even with a large table celebrating a birthday or something was moderate; perhaps the high ceilings of this former church have something to do with that. The food was very good, with artful presentations. The service was excellent, especially as we were somewhat rushed due to traffic delays. They were able to serve us quickly, efficiently, and very pleasantly. Our server was Alicia (spelling?) and we highly recommend her. Wines available by the glass are limited, but the two that we had were good. We will definitely return so that we can take our time and enjoy the food even more. In all, its an impressive place to eat."

  • "My visit to Redemption was an overall great experience. The courses came in perfect timing, and the food was very good. Service was excellent, and the Piano music and singing was a lovely backdrop for Mother's Day outing. All was Great! I will go back again. "

  • "We were there during Jazz Fest on a Saturday and I was surprised to be able to get a last minute reservation. The food and service were good. The bar needs improvement. Not a busy place though I can't figure out why"

  • "We had a large group from my wife's birthday. The staff was very accommodating as I had to change the head count three different times. The restaurant was not busy and we had a wait staff that was amazing! Everything we ate was memorable and we look forward to our next visit. I can't stop thinking about the pan seared foie gras! And that was just the appetizer. I tried several other entrees and found everything to be excellent in taste and presentation. I highly recommend this restaurant to any local or tourist."

  • "Went to NOLA for Jazz Fest. I used to live there and one of my favorite restaurants was Christians, in an old church. It fell to Katrina, and this is what's there now. Excellent service. Everything we had was great but my favorite was a smoked duck soup with leeks and dried cherries that I still dream of. The venue is beautiful and the vaulted ceilings keep the noise down when it's crowded. One of the best meals we had during this visit to a town with great food!"

  • "Well, that may be pushing it a bit, but I had a great meal. I've wanted to eat here since it was Christian's but I moved away for work. Greg Picolo has done a nice job with the menu, and the building is beautiful. I had the BLT salad and shrimp and grits, both were delicious. Personally, I don't like head/tail on shrimp except for boiled because it is a mess in a fine dining establishment to eat with your fingers (is there any way to peel shrimp with a knife and fork?) but it was great, nonetheless. The creme Burke was superb. Three for one bloody Mary's were spicy and spot on. Being able to say hello to the chef was an extra treat."

  • "Let me say first, the restaurant was nearly empty so being slammed wasn't a problem. The server confused our order so three entrees were placed at the wrong seats. Two of us were awaiting entrees. A staffer came by to say the other two entrees would be just a moment more; however, the two he mentioned weren't what we ordered. The fourth arrived merely warm and mine arrived after everyone had finished dinner. No staffer approached our table to offer an apology. The bill showed different selections than we'd ordered. To her credit, the server showed us the bill reflected items costing less than what we ordered and insisted that we pay the lower amount. Did someone receive our larger bill? So disappointing when Chef Greg is so talented! "

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with two other couples for dinner at Redemption. Starters, entrees, and desserts were uniformly very good. All of us agreed that the flash-fried oysters were the best we have had in New Orleans, and the catch of the day (grouper), duck, and lamb chops were especially good. I have always loved the beautiful interior of this old church. It made for a wonderful evening out."

  • "My fiance and I wanted to go to dinner while the French Quarter Fest was going on. We didn't want to be in the middle of all of the hustle and bustle and we found Redemption. We had a fantastic meal. It was quiet and we could talk. We had great service and would love to go back."

  • "Very limited menu which is fine if it's executed properly. Foie app was the best item of the night but all the mains were barely edible. Both fish main dishes were severly over cooked and mushy. I didn't try the stuffed shrimp but those that ordered them did not finish their portions. Save your money and eat elsewhere you are only paying for the room, which is lovely."

  • "We had a party of eight. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It was a Friday night before theatre dinner. We arrived on time for a 5:30 pm reservation. Excellent service, food was delicious. Plenty of time for dessert and coffee. I had the oyster appetizer...yum! Oysters fried to perfection. Fish entree with risotto, an excellent Lenten choice. Beautifully presented as were all of the other entrees. The stuffed shrimp looked fabulous. Going back to try it. Great pre-theatre place. Easy to park, drive down Orleans to the Saenger. Great atmosphere. Several large tables throughout the dining room, yet the meals all came out together, and the staff worked so well together. Wait staff was on top of everything, everywhere. I'm impressed."

  • "This restaurant is situated inside a renovated chapel, and it is gorgeous. We ate brunch when it was flash flooding outside, but you couldn't tell. The butter-yellow stained glass windows made it seem as though the sun was shining through, and the roof dampened any noise, making it seem from the inside like a perfectly sunny day. It was a quiet restaurant with not many people, which was surprising given the ambiance and quality of the food and service. Our waiter was new, but very friendly and sweet. We ordered the omelet, crab cakes, and smoked salmon. Everything was good except for the smoked salmon, which was cold and dry. The crab cakes made up for it though - delicious! For dessert: banana fritters. Just get them. They were amazing."

  • "The old church that the restaurant is located in has potential but it was poorly executed. The dining area was cavernous and too brightly lit. The fried oyster appetizer was inedible. The filet was not fresh though tender, the grouper special was smothered in a heavy sauce and the stuffed shrimp was heated inconsistently throughout the dish. The chef did check on our table, however we were the only table in the place still eating. There we're few others present but they were merely waiting on cabs. The location is well outside the Quarter and cabs are sparse at best although the Mardi Gas season probably affected this as well. Lastly, the restaurant ran out if the wine we were drinking and didn't have our second choice available."

  • "The restaurant wasn't full on Valentine's Day. This was the first sign. There was a fixed, 3-course menu with a complimentary glass of champagne, for $75/ea. The champagne was served free of charge for the entire meal. Here was sign number two. The oyster appetizer was nearly inedible as the oysters were small and must have been dredged in sand. The grit was over the top. I'm not talking a pebble or two. For the main course we had the filet and the grouper. Both were overcooked. The sauce on the grouper was tasty. The sauce/gravy on the filet was not needed nor tasty. The service was sporatic. I am still waiting for someone to ask how we are doing or if the food was ok. I think the answer is known. It isn't Christian's."

  • "Truely awesome setting in an old refurbished church. It is in our neighborhood and we would like to go more often. Problem is that it just doesn't hold up to high New Orleans standards, so there are dozens of better experiences to be had in this town. The food, service, and ambience were good but the kitchen was very slow."

  • "Food was okay. Egglant is to die for. Otherwise, the food was forgettable. Service was terrible. Server had no knowledge of the wine. They served us hot white wine, and the bottle of red arrived after dinner was over."

  • "Average food quality. Service and coordination of food delivery is lacking. Took a while to get food and it was lukewarm when it arrived. Our waiter was flustered and spilled wine and mistakenly poured water into my wine glass. Lots of other restaurant options where our experience was much better."

  • "We had been looking for the perfect Christmas Dinner and had been sorely disappointed by many New Orleans restaurants in years past as too crowded, sold out of favorite foods, poor service, rushed, etc. REDEMPTION WAS THE PERFECT FIND!!! The ambiance was quiet and elegant and refined with personable staff who were right on time with everything. We especially loved that we were not rushed and no food was brought to the table until our previous course was finished. The food was creatively excellent and reasonably priced. Wine list pricey so a few less expensive selections would be welcomed. THIS WILL BE OUR "GO TO" RESTAURANT FOR ALL OUR SPECIAL OCCASIONS AND MORE. Thank you, Redemption for such a special Christmas Evening."
