In honor of the “Rebirth” of New Orleans, and the re- emergence of the celebration of the finest food on the face of the earth that can be tasted right here in our city, we have reopened this location and have dedicated ourselves to this mission.
We are purposed to restoring and preserving the culinary arts that have distinguished our city and made it famous. In this sense, we are hoping your visit with us will be a new spiritual awakening that your senses of taste, smell, sight and sound will revel in the experience of boundless dining pleasure.
To serve you divinely inspired meals in a heavenly atmosphere is now and will remain our goal, so, welcome to our culinary preservation hall.

  • "My wife and I celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary with two other couples for dinner at Redemption. Starters, entrees, and desserts were uniformly very good. All of us agreed that the flash-fried oysters were the best we have had in New Orleans, and the catch of the day (grouper), duck, and lamb chops were especially good. I have always loved the beautiful interior of this old church. It made for a wonderful evening out."

  • "My fiance and I wanted to go to dinner while the French Quarter Fest was going on. We didn't want to be in the middle of all of the hustle and bustle and we found Redemption. We had a fantastic meal. It was quiet and we could talk. We had great service and would love to go back."

  • "Very limited menu which is fine if it's executed properly. Foie app was the best item of the night but all the mains were barely edible. Both fish main dishes were severly over cooked and mushy. I didn't try the stuffed shrimp but those that ordered them did not finish their portions. Save your money and eat elsewhere you are only paying for the room, which is lovely."

  • "We had a party of eight. Everyone enjoyed their meals. It was a Friday night before theatre dinner. We arrived on time for a 5:30 pm reservation. Excellent service, food was delicious. Plenty of time for dessert and coffee. I had the oyster appetizer...yum! Oysters fried to perfection. Fish entree with risotto, an excellent Lenten choice. Beautifully presented as were all of the other entrees. The stuffed shrimp looked fabulous. Going back to try it. Great pre-theatre place. Easy to park, drive down Orleans to the Saenger. Great atmosphere. Several large tables throughout the dining room, yet the meals all came out together, and the staff worked so well together. Wait staff was on top of everything, everywhere. I'm impressed."

  • "This restaurant is situated inside a renovated chapel, and it is gorgeous. We ate brunch when it was flash flooding outside, but you couldn't tell. The butter-yellow stained glass windows made it seem as though the sun was shining through, and the roof dampened any noise, making it seem from the inside like a perfectly sunny day. It was a quiet restaurant with not many people, which was surprising given the ambiance and quality of the food and service. Our waiter was new, but very friendly and sweet. We ordered the omelet, crab cakes, and smoked salmon. Everything was good except for the smoked salmon, which was cold and dry. The crab cakes made up for it though - delicious! For dessert: banana fritters. Just get them. They were amazing."

  • "The old church that the restaurant is located in has potential but it was poorly executed. The dining area was cavernous and too brightly lit. The fried oyster appetizer was inedible. The filet was not fresh though tender, the grouper special was smothered in a heavy sauce and the stuffed shrimp was heated inconsistently throughout the dish. The chef did check on our table, however we were the only table in the place still eating. There we're few others present but they were merely waiting on cabs. The location is well outside the Quarter and cabs are sparse at best although the Mardi Gas season probably affected this as well. Lastly, the restaurant ran out if the wine we were drinking and didn't have our second choice available."

  • "The restaurant wasn't full on Valentine's Day. This was the first sign. There was a fixed, 3-course menu with a complimentary glass of champagne, for $75/ea. The champagne was served free of charge for the entire meal. Here was sign number two. The oyster appetizer was nearly inedible as the oysters were small and must have been dredged in sand. The grit was over the top. I'm not talking a pebble or two. For the main course we had the filet and the grouper. Both were overcooked. The sauce on the grouper was tasty. The sauce/gravy on the filet was not needed nor tasty. The service was sporatic. I am still waiting for someone to ask how we are doing or if the food was ok. I think the answer is known. It isn't Christian's."

Problem is that it just doesn't hold up to high New Orleans standards, so there are dozens of better experiences to be had in this town. The food, service, and ambience were good but the kitchen was very slow."

  • "We had been looking for the perfect Christmas Dinner and had been sorely disappointed by many New Orleans restaurants in years past as too crowded, sold out of favorite foods, poor service, rushed, etc. REDEMPTION WAS THE PERFECT FIND!!! The ambiance was quiet and elegant and refined with personable staff who were right on time with everything. We especially loved that we were not rushed and no food was brought to the table until our previous course was finished. The food was creatively excellent and reasonably priced. Wine list pricey so a few less expensive selections would be welcomed. THIS WILL BE OUR "GO TO" RESTAURANT FOR ALL OUR SPECIAL OCCASIONS AND MORE. Thank you, Redemption for such a special Christmas Evening."

  • "We were there on Christmas Day for lunch. There was a four-course, set menu for $50 which included a complimentary glass of champagne. There were four choices each for appetizer and entree and two each for salad & dessert. It was one of the best holiday menus I've seen. No turkey & dressing or glazed ham, which was great for us. It's in an old church which has been beautifully maintained. Red roses on each table. Plenty of trained, knowledgable staff (no temps brought in for the occasion). An owner in attendance who welcomed each guest personally. A lovely day! We highly recommend for holidays & non-holidays alike."

  • "We went as a group for our annual holiday dinner. It's a beautiful space. We were seated near the kitchen. The weather was nasty .. Cold and rainy. There was a terrible draft where we were seated. We kept jackets on. Service was rather slow. My appetizer {soft shell crab} was delicious. My entree stuffed shrimp was good but nothing spectacular. Dessert was creme brûlée and it was loose. I'd heard rave reviews. I would give it another shot since I love the idea of a neighborhood restaurant. Maybe we dined on an off night."

  • "We have a home in NO & visit the City 2-3 times a year. Fine dining is high on our list. Friends had recommended R and thus on a quiet Thanksgiving Friday, we had our first, but not last, dinner here. Tommy, our waiter deserves high marks for the service-who else could share quotes from Mark Twain and Tennessee Williams to frame one's visit. The maitre d' paid special attention in the selection of wine and after dinner drinks. Finally, all of this was enhanced by a visit to our table by Chef Picolo. He made sure that our dining experience met our needs. + he shared gastronomical related tidbits (anecdotes) that ranged as far as SF, our home town. Thus not only were we blessed with excellent cuisine, but several hours of bonhomie."

  • "The chef prepares incredible and unique dishes that are in line with typical New Orleans cuisine. But he puts a unique flare on everything. The salad and soup were surprising flavors and were wonderful. I had lamb that was lightly fried, which was most unique and wonderful. Flavors were wonderful. It was nice to meet the chef personally, which is always a sign of a good restaurant. The restaurant is in an old church building, which makes for a really cool vibe. We loved it!"

There weren't many other diners there while we were eating with our group of 6, and we waited a long time between courses. The creme brulee dessert was also cold in the middle, which was disappointing, because the crispy top was delicious."

  • "The front door had been locked and they couldn't open so we came in through the back door which was awkward.The server told me he was quite familiar with the wine offerings - I selected one, he told me he would need to check availability; I chose a 2nd one, finally the 3rd one, they had. I inquired about the prix fixe dinner that was highlighted on their website, he didn't know if they were offering bec he didn't think they had all the ingredients. I suggested removing it from the website and he told me the chef did not manage the website. He returned with the menu, it stated it was for Oct & it is Nov. so he checked again. We did order from this menu and the food was delicious - just disappointing service so can not recommend."

There were five of us, and the restaurant was not very busy. There was no explanation from the waiter or the other staff. I would not return nor recommend it."

  • "We were very excited to go to dinner my husband and a friend's birthday celebration but left disappointed. The building was interesting and the service was pretty good but our entrees were a disappointment. We ordered the eggplant appetizer and that was fantastic. The disappointing entree was the baked stuffed shrimp. Five people in our party ordered it. Either no one in our group of locals understood how to eat them OR there were shrimp shells in the stuffing. No one said anything until the next day because we were in a group and did not want to cause a stir or send our food back. Another disappointment was that when I made the reservation I said we were celebrating two birthdays that were never acknowledged in any way whatsoever."

  • "I had heard mixed reviews so I decided to try it for brunch. The gumbo tasted like butter and had one shrimp. The grits were watery and very starchy. The crab cake was either frozen or contained frozen crabmeat. The service was good as was the ambiance. The almond pistachio cheesecake was good. The blt salad was a disappointment as it lacked flavor. No one at my table was impressed with the food. I'm sad to say that based on this experience I am unlikely to try it for dinner."
