A word from Redd
REDD, which opened its doors in November 2005, is the first venture from acclaimed Northern California chef Richard Reddington, who offers an updated interpretation of wine country cuisine in a decidedly relaxed environment. REDD reflects the passions of a serious chef who, after 15 years in some of the best kitchens in the United States and Europe, has found the perfect balance of serious food and unpretentious ambiance. "With Redd, I've created the type of restaurant that I like to spend time at--an inviting place that serves creative food and thoughtfully chosen wines in a relaxed, but elegant, contemporary space." Drawing from his classic French and Mediterranean sensibilities, chef Reddington has created a cuisine that combines flavors and textures that match well with local wines. REDD’S menu showcases regionally inspired seasonal selections with ethnic influences. A daily 5 course chef’s tasting menu is also available in addition to the regular menu.Continued

  • "We enjoyed a very friendly welcome, which was followed by outstanding service throughout the lunch. The fresh oysters and yellowfin tuna tartare were delicious, as were the Hangtown fry omelette (made with lots of crispy fried pancetta) and Redd lobster club. Highly recommended!"

  • "Had a great experience at Redd, aside from the hostess who wasn't very welcoming to my friends. I went outside to take a picture while my friends went ahead of me. The hostess gave them a bit of attitude because the full party technically wasn't present in the restaurant (from my friend's account). Aside from that, our waiter and wine director were amazing and very courteous. Definitely one to visit again!"

  • "We (group of 6) had lunch outdoor at REDD and it was the best experience we had in Yountville in 4 days. We are French Canadian so we like to take it very slow when we eat and that is just what they allowed us to do. No rush to order, no rush to eat and no rush to leave. Add to that food beyond your expectations and a great wine list and that's it ! They know their «étiquette» so all plates arrived at the same time (with many servers) and no plates left the table before everyone was finish eating. That's a very rare thing in the U.S."

I especially appreciate a tiny addition that exemplifies Redd's efforts to make the customer happy: I ordered duck, medium rare, but I found I wanted it cooked slightly longer. When my plate was returned to me, it had been re-garnished with the the duck liver "egg roll" that I had quickly eaten before sending my plate back. A lovely gesture that was greatly appreciated. We are sad we are not Napa locals. If we were, we would be regulars at Redd!"

I have rarely been in a restaurant where the staff were so indifferent and unwelcoming. Definitely not Michelin star service and with other lovely restaurants in Yountville, Redd is not worth a visit."

  • "In a town of spectacular dining destinations, Redd is right up there with the best of them. We had a lazy lunch in the beautiful dining room with tons of natural light and a nice view of the garden. We tried some seafood dishes and some meat and every single one was exciting, well thought-out, and impeccably prepared. Superb ingredients, creative menu with a unique asian twist, and relaxing ambiance make for a wonderful experience. The staff is very knowledgeable, attentive, and pleasant. Without a doubt Redd is our new favorite spot in Napa!"

  • "We ate at Redd twice this week, once in the bar (great) and the second time in the dining room. We wished that we had skipped the dining room and eaten twice in the bar. We had the petrale sole and spicy pork tenderloin in the dining room. The flavor of the petrale sole was overpowered by the rest of the dish and there was no spice with the pork which had a rather bland barbecue sauce on it. The pork was tender and well prepared but just very bland. Perhaps the most telling point is that no one - not our server, the dining room manager, the receptionist, etc, - asked us how our meal was in the dining room but we were asked in the bar. Either they just didn't care in the dining room or they knew. Our recommendation - eat in the bar."

  • "The tasting menu offered large servings - easily three times what we expected - but they lacked the creativity and flavor explosions we've experienced elsewhere and were seeking. The service was good. Just good. We've had better at a Michelin one-star restaurant in Lisbon, Portugal. The service was decidedly California-laid-back but upscale. I appreciate the quality of the food, but it wasn't a culinary expedition as we had hoped."

  • "Food was amazing. Pork belly was the best tasting dish I had that weekend, which included meals at Chez Panisse, Meadowood and Solbar. Service was a tiny bit slow between appetizer and entre, although my lens may have been clouded by the fact that I dined at Meadowood the night before. Still a great meal and am looking forward to my next visit there."

We followed recommendations of the exceedingly knowledgeable, gracious sommelier, and the excellence of our food/wine pairing was an unparalleled experience of joy! Our meal was simply magnificent. My dear friends and I felt so honored by the wisdom and kindness of our superb waiter. Upon his suggestions, we enjoyed the caramelized diver scallops and pork tenderloin - what luscious elegance! Our brilliantly-crafted desserts were superb. We dined al fresco on a gorgeous early Spring evening by firelight, under luxuriously effective heatlamps to ward off any chill. Redd is an epic celebration earning my highest recommendation."

  • "Our food was delicious; all three of us ordered the smoked trout and the Wild Mushroom Risotto. The trout was sparkly with its horseradish/cream fraiche sauce - also many lovely tidbits around the plate to enjoy. The risotto was perfectly cooked and all at our table agreed on this - we were concerned that the rice might be slightly undercooked which happens in some restaurants - gives the dish a chalky taste and the rice doesn't form the creamy sauce. My only complaint about this restaurant is the price of the wines - I would come more often if the wine weren't such a big expense."

  • "We were impressed with the food. Little else. The service was in attentive. The waiter was terse, checking his watch as if he were working overtime or tired, disinterested. We were disappointed, for sure. Didn't stay for dessert. Don't blame the workers. Seems the management must be poor as the workers seemed very unhappy. We won't return. In contrast, the sister restaurant- Reddwood has always been consistently great in all categories. This was our 2nd time at Redd and both times were disappointing. Unfortunate."

  • "We've visited Redd since 2006 and considered not returning after a disappointing experience last year. I'm happy that we returned. Devon, their hostess, greeted us by name and welcomed us back before I said anything. She's been there since 2006, and has been wonderful every year. We hadn't seen Tyler before, but he took very good care of us. He took the time to understand what we did and didn't like from the tasting menu, and why. His wine recommendation was perfect and he added just the right touches to the meal. The service, timing and flavors were perfect. Hamachi, pork belly, duck confit- all amazing! The desserts were the best we've had at Redd. Redd is once again our favorite restaurant and I hope to be back before next year."

After a week of good food at the CIA, and at multiple other top restaurants in Napa, this was the best meal not only that we had in Napa, but anywhere in at least the last few years. Wonderful"

  • "We ate at Redd after a day of wine tasting. Everywhere we went, people nodded knowingly when we said we were dining at Redd and recommended the pork belly. What a great recommendation! Three of us had it as our second course (the fourth had the roast chicken), and it was great. We liked the mix of small and large plates that lets you tailor the amount of food to your appetite. Our server was knowledgeable and on target with his recommendations. The service in general was attentive without being intrusive."

  • "Our group had lunch at Redwood Grill and dinner at Redd, both owned by Richard Reddington, and both outstanding. This was our second time at Redd, and I enjoyed it much more this time. The service from both our server and the sommelier was impeccable. Everything we had was fabulous, from a spicy pork tenderloin to prime steak, with some amazing appetizers. The ambiance is sophisticated but warm, and how they managed it in basically a box of a room is a mystery (the lighting helps). Redd vies for best restaurant in Yountville, with no slouches for competition!"

  • "We went here on Valentines Day (no special menu). We decided to order a la carte as opposed to the tasting menu they offer daily. the food was inventive and delicious; I had cod paired with braised short ribs and it was amazing. the service was good, but short of exceptional, but everyone was very friendly and accommodating. The only real negative is the interior. It was very minimalistic, and I know less is more these days, but there was just something missing. In any event, I'd definitely go back."

  • "We have been trying for a few years to get into this location. And now that we have we wished we didnt. Took over 45 mintues to get the salad...ten mintues later for some bread and no one seemed to care. To costly of a place for that kind of service."

The food was amazing and i would go back every time. They even gave a tasting treat at the beginning to seduce your appetite (the size of some starters in some restaurants).   • "While the food was delicious, our server was horrid and it was impossible to enjoy the evening. We decided to order a number of small plates instead of two entrees and instead of staggering them, he brought all of them out at once, forcing us to eat them quickly or they would be cold. We ordered an expensive bottle of wine to go with, thinking our server would have a little more respect for us. Nope. We got better attention from the busser. Thankfully we passed on dessert and wandered into Bistro Jeanty for port and cheese. They saved our last night in Yountville. Redd is permanently off my list."

  • "We shared the calamari with tamarind sauce; the portion was so large that we saved half of it for later. The tamarind sauce, with hints of lemongrass and ginger, was perfectly balanced by the crispiness of the calamari. A real treat! I ordered the scallops with cauliflower puree & golden raisins & almonds. This dish, Redd's signature item, was much lighter and the flavors were subtle & complimented each other perfectly. My companion ordered the wild mushroom risotto... delightfully smokey but a little too rich for one person so we ended up sharing both entrees and taking at least half of the risotto home for another meal.We were also served a complimentary spinach soup...delicious.We totally loved the food,service, & overall experience."

  • "I have had lunch at Redd twice now. Food is creative, clean and very tasty and as good as anywhere in Northern California. I like the simple clean decor and service is friendly and efficient. I need to tell the cooks to be careful of the Asian flavors of the pork belly for the steam buns becoming over reduced and too salty. Also it seems on both occasions the wine seems to take a little while coming from the bar and dragging behind the food. All in all we really enjoyed Redd"
