Red StarExcellent food, if you can waitWe went to Red Star for brunch and as always were delighted by the food, however the service was lacking. Once we got our breakfast our server never came back which was unfortunate because they got our orders wrong. It seemed that all the tables around us were getting great service but ours so I'm hoping our server was just having an off day. Will go back, they have the yummiest coffee cake.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat experienceHad a great time at Red Star. Tried the Wagyu beef and Ribeye. Both excellent.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMbest place to eat in downtownI have not had one bad experience at Red Star. After going there and having a nice dinner, then going to Mortons the following weekend, I truely see why it is my favorite place to eat. The service is amazing. (Rusty is my favorite server). The food presentation is wonderful and the brisket is the by far the best in town. I heard about this place from following LeBron James on facebook and when him and the Miami Heat were in town they are here and mentioned that Red Star was their favorite place in Portland to eat. So coming from someone who had dined in probably some of the best restaurants in the world, I would take the time to go and try Red Star.5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMNIce atmosphere. FriendlyNIce atmosphere. Friendly wait staff. Brisket was excellent and the halibut ceviche superb.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMWe held a business lunch hereWe held a business lunch here and the food options and service were good. Food was fine (we mostly had burgers or salads) and service very efficient. Because it was a Sunday noon, the noise level was minimal. Were I in downtown Portland again, I would return.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMLOVE this place! We could not have had a better experience! The staff were all friendly, and knowledgeable, the ambiance was a great mood setter for a husband trying to woo his wife. Love this restaurant.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMHad brunch at the Red Star,Had brunch at the Red Star, following a road race which had 35,000+ participants. The race was held in the immediate vacinity of the restaraunt. Consequently, the restaraunt was beyond busy. We could see that our server was overwhelmed, so cut some slack about the length of time it took to get our food. Wished that the kitchen, number of staff was greater to accomodate the enhanced number of guests. Food was good, as usual. I'd like to come back on an non-event weekend and try the brunch again.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMWe love Red Star! This is our go-to spot for brunch after the Shamrock Run (since we live in Salem, we don't come to Portland too often) and we absolutely love it. It has never, EVER, in any way, disappointed us.3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing FoodThis was my first time there.
