Excellent food and service. Ambiance was rustic elegance. My steak was cooked to perfection. I would highly recommend this restaurant. The location was easy to find and convenient to the entrance to the Biltmore Estate if you are planning on the Candlelight Evening Christmas Tour.

My husband and I tried this restaurant as a last minute dinner reservation when visiting Asheville from out of town and are so glad we did! This incredible steak house has an inventive menu in addition to the typical steakhouse standards and incredible ambience. Very delicious, perfect date night!

Your hamburger -- the first one on the menu, not the second -- used to be the best in town and the fries were to die for. Well, no more. The hamburger this time--five of us ordered it on my recommendation--was uninteresting. The skinny fries were gone along with their delicious blend of herbs. Truffle oil faintly there on big, ugly fries. When I asked about the fries, I was told that corporate had made that decision. Well, you screwed up. Fix it.

We were a party of seven and the food was very good, as usual. However, the service was slow which is not as we have experienced on previous visits and, since two of our party were on a rather tight schedule, this was very inconvenient. It was difficult to get the waiter's attention as he was nowhere to be seen. On our previous visits we have had excellent service and so we were a little disappointed this time. We shall be coming back to the restaurant as we all like the venue and the food. Another point is that I think it would be nice if they had a free dessert for the person whose birthday is being celebrated as many other restaurants offer.

We were visiting Asheville from Atlanta for our 3rd anniversary. We sought a "traditional" fine dining setting and Red Stag turned out to be a perfect venue. I chose the Chef's 4 course tasting menu with wine pairing, and my wife chose rack of lamb. Tasting menu was excellent, as were the paired wines. My wife felt her rack of lamb was as good as she had ever had. What distinguished the experience was our waiter, Mike. He was extremely knowledgeable on every menu item, as well as each wine we inquired about. His style was very professional while concurrently engaging, attentive and personal. He also arranged a special anniversary dessert for my. We will go directly back to the Red Stag (and ask for Mike) on our next visit to Asheville.

We found the Red Stag through the app: urbanspoon, and we are so thankful that we did!! I had the Tenderloin and my boyfriend had the lamb and they were both absolutely perfect! Everything from the wine, to the dessert, to the entree, to the service was excellent and I highly recommend it if you have never been. Pricey but totally worth it!

  • Trading too heavily on Location
    discernment
    Dined on 11/6/2014
Red Stag Grill has ambience plus and you pay for it. Unfortunately, the prices do not match the quality of the food. The meal was average as far as "gourmet status" restaurants go. I expected much more in terms of the quality. I had the grouper and it was tasteless.... I did not hear raves from my fellow diners about their choices. The wine list was ok but not outstanding and the beer choices were limited. The experience was made better by the environment and the service. stop trading so heavily on your location to Biltmore. It is not a free ticket to over-priced mediocre food.

We had high expectations that were not met in terms of food. The ambiance was spectacular, but the meal portions were small. The kale salad was tough, and the asparagus was thick and hard. The dessert was spongy and little flavor. Steak was served lukewarm.

This was our first visit and we decided to have lunch after shopping in the Biltmore area. The wait staff was very attentive and the room was comfortable and private even though over half the tables were filled. The hotel and restaurant are like stepping into a European hunting lodge from early in this century. The rooms and fireplaces are over sized with lots of dark wood paneling and trophy heads. We're not wild game eaters but there was a lot on the menu for those of us that aren't as adventurous as some. The BLT was over the top with both regular tomatoes and fried green tomatoes, and the flavor of the bacon was intensified with a bacon jam. The lunch prices were very reasonable for a hotel & they also have a daily lunch special.

Wonderful apps, salads and mains. That said, having ordered the halibut entree on two consecutive evenings, on both occasions it was overcooked, the second night of which the server looked at it and immediately acknowledged it. The manager was extremely gracious and apologetic. Don't let this keep you from enjoying an otherwise terrific dining experience.

I took my wife to the Red Stag Grill-Grand Bohemian Hotel in Asheville for our monthly "big night out" and dinner. I had read mixed reviews of the food and service, but our evening was perfectly delightful. The food was superb and the service was flawless. I left my cell phone in the car and our waiter simply took the valet ticket and was back with it for me in less than ten minutes. Admittedly it was early evening on a Sunday and things were quiet, but the effort was notable. The décor is charming if you are not offended by hunting lodge style and animal trophies hanging everywhere. Very European in an American sort of way. Obviously a compliment to the nearby Biltmore Estate facilities.

The ambiance of the hotel/restaurant was spectacular. Our server was great. The restaurant felt very spacious and comfortable, even relaxing. The only thing that wasnt prefect was the food itself, my wife and I got a Rack of Lamb and Elk Tenderloin, neither of which were very impressive. They were well plated and well complimented with their sides but both were somewhat undercooked. It would be hard for me to recommend anyone go their on the merit of the food (particularly because of the price) but if someone who doesnt normally eat at high end restaurants is looking for somewhere to celebrate a special occasion, this would be a good place.

Went with group for anniversary dinner. Although, primarily a chop house there are other excellent choices on the menu. Rack of lamb, filet mignon both excellent but also good crab cakes, mussels and salads. Extensive wine list, can be a little pricey for dinner. Great service, décor and a great bar that serves food also. Highly recommended for a special night out.....

I made a reservation for 8 for Sunday Oct. 12 - 6 PM. I had mentioned at confirmation that we had an infant, too. The table set up was not great for conversation - it was a row of 4 opposite 4 on a tight side aisle. Our service was not the usual service we've come to expect. In fact, it was poor. The cocktails were very slow to arrive. We waited and waited for our entrees after completing the salads - almost an hour! No explanation except kitchen backed up - and no apology. The food was excellent - as it has always been.

The menu is quite nice and there are good wines available although nothing that was much of a bargain. About what I expect to pay at a quality restaurant. The drawback was that some of the food was just lukewarm when served and that compromised the overall quality of the experience.

We had the dinner with the wine pairing and it was delicious. The wine pourings could have been more generous (or at least even between the persons) but the selections were very good. The food was delicious with no complaints! We even had the Elk which was very good and not gamey at all. I would recommend the food. Would have liked a better table as we are platinum Marriott members and were staying at the hotel-and had made reservations in advance stating it was an anniversary. It was very nice to have a complimentary glass of champagne at the end. Very nice. Great location when visiting the Biltmore.
