  • "My husband and I came here with friends for a special night out. WOW! What a treat! We shared the calamari appetizer which was delicious - tender and perfectly cooked, along with the bacon mussels (my husband raved they were the best he'd ever had) and the baby collard salad, which was quite a unique take on the traditional southern staple I grew up eating. I had the Chilean Sea Bass for dinner which was SO incredible! Perfectly cooked and accompanied with tender asparagus and mashed potatoes! Delicious! Other entrees were the Elk tenderloin - so, so, SO wonderful - peppery crust, perfect medium-rare; ribeye steak - juicy and flavorful; and the monk fish - flaky and delicate. We shared in great vino and sampled the cheescake too! Yum"

The Elk tenderloin and the beet salad (using mostly local produce) are nothing less than perfect. Actually everything about the Red Stag is perfect. I would also recommend staying in the Grand Bohemian if visiting the area. This is a fitting complement to the Biltmore experience. It's a must!"

  • "This is my favorite restaurant in this area (Tri-Cities/Asheville)! I live an hour away and it's totally worth the drive. We had Calamari for appetizer which was so light and fresh. For dinner I had Sunburst Mountain Trout - just perfect combination of fish and fresh vegetables. My daughter had the local filet mignon oscar style and it was melt in your mouth delicious. We had apple pie and cheesecake for dessert and they were both amazing! Also it's hard not to eat all the bread - even my daughter couldn't stop at one piece."

I have to say, this was one of the finer dining experiences we've had in some time. We opted for the tasting menu and truly enjoyed all 4 courses - probably the best filet I have ever had! The service level provided by the waitstaff was perfect; there when you needed him but never intrusive... somehow my glass was always full but he was never in the way. Try the pear martini too!"

  • "My husband and I recently ate at the Red Stag Grill while we were visiting Asheville for a couple of days. The food was excellent! I ordered the Chef's tasting menu, which is an appetizer, salad, entree and dessert (smaller sized) that showcase whats in season and the chefs favorite recipes. It included fried green tomatoes with goat cheese, a collard greens salad, 6 oz grass fed filet and some of the best banana pudding for dessert! My husband ordered the caesar salad and the Elk filet, which were both excellent. The wine list and cocktail options are also wonderful. I would highly recommend!!"

  • "Originally put as far back in dining room away from entrance as possible. When I explained not satisfactory because my guests was handicapped and could not walk the distance, after an argument saying that all the tables were reserved, even though there was no one in the restaurant at to,e we were dining, I was offered a table mid way near the kitchen where all the server traffic was. that was not satisfactory, I was then offered a table that was behind the table near the kitchen but separated by a barrier. When I again requested one closer to door we entered, I effectively was told to take the table now offered or get nothing. For a first class restaurant this was the most inconsiderate and shoddy entrance I ever received."

We sat in chairs that looked like thrones, enjoyed the window view, oohed over the old Engliand hunting decor and laughed the afternoon away. The quiche was delicious and I tried to make the salad served here at home but it was not nearly as tasty! What is the secret to the vinegarette? The waiter was prompt but not intrusive, and had good recommendations. We might try this again....I liked the $10/lunch specials. Wonderful time! Delicious food."

Everything was as good as could be desired and they threw in complimentary champagne as a way to say Happy Anniversary to us.   • "Beautiful ornate wood and wonderful antiques furnish and decorate the entire hotel and dining room. It truly is Grand and Bohemian. The service was also very good. We had the tasting menu, which was tasty, but at times overwhelming portions and somewhat flawed in the timing of the service, The décor is worth going for, the food was pretty good, but not memorable, from a foodie's point of view. Must say the Green Fried Tomatoes were outstanding."

  • "The food and service were good but the place must be run by the 3 stooges. The hostess cancelled my reservation. I had to make another to get my points. The parking valet was also rude about my not having my parking ticket validated. Nobody told me when I allowed the valet to park my car that I was supposed to get my ticket validated by the restaurant. Left with a bad opinion about the restaurant."

I am a self taught cook that has learned through family and friends as well as watching many cooking shows, reading lots of cookbooks and magazines, along with exploring many websites for recipes and tips. My experience was that each course consistently topped the last! I found myself craving more after each bite. I have so much appreciation for your level of preparation.
