Diner Reviews
  • " We made a 9:30pm reservation, but when we arrived hostess said they were cramped tonight and didn't know when we would be seated. (What good is a reservation then?) At 9:45, we had still not be seated, and we were getting quite angry, but the hostess did a nice job of making the situation better by comping glasses of prosecco. When we were finally shown to out table after 10:10, it was a true dining experience. To start we had the corn bread, and kimchee lobster rolls. For our mains we had the chicken and waffle and the oxtail pappardelle and for dessert we shared the sweet potato donuts. Everything was absolutely out of this world, and completely worth the wait. We especially recommend the Harlem Shake Cocktail to top off the night!"

  • "We had a very fun evening. We decided to start with the cornbread. Probably an unusual choice but we really liked it and we planned to have a drink or two before ordering dinner. We ended up ordering the Fried Bird and The Meatballs both were outstanding. Although the menu mentions that the chicken is double fried it had a light coating that was very crisp and delicious. The Meatballs were the best i had ever had. Both dishes I believe came with mashed potatoes that were to die for and to top it all off we ordered a small side of lobster mac and cheese. I can't wait to go again."

  • "Im the Chief Concierge at the Caribe Hilton in San Juan Puerto Rico and the attentiveness of the staff was impeccable. The knowledge of the menu was awesome and they even brought my girfriend a piece of birthday cake. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone."

  • "We had a delicious meal and enjoyed ourselves greatly. However, two things distracted from our meal. First, we ordered an appetizer that was never delivered. Second, we were dining at Red Rooster to celebrate a 30th birthday. I had called ahead and requested that a candle be put in my partner's dessert. That did not happen. I was pretty disappointed, particularly because the reservationist with whom I spoke told me that would happen and because I ordered desserts particularly for that reason."

  • "One of the best meals I have ever eaten....EVER!!! We sat at the chefs table and were graced with a plate of hot fresh corn bread and moved from there to chicken and waffles, crab cakes, blackened catfish and steaks. Dessert was a pot of pudding and chocolate cake with blood orange sorbet. The big surprise was that they toasted the cake which gave it a crispy texture and warmed it just enough for the sorbet. This is a trick I will be adding to my repertoire. The Bo us of the evening was getting to meet Chef. Even though he was busy working he was gracious, took a picture with us and even made us stand in the ideal spot for lighting Truly a memorable evening."

  • "Me and my family had a great time at Red Rooster. The food is just delicious, the restaurant is very beautiful, even the restrooms are so beautiful...We didn't want to get out! But the best for us was the service, very, very kind, even with my son (5 years old) and with my baby (1 year old). So I really recommend this place."

  • "I dined here for the first time with my boyfriend and oldest friend. I had not seen my friend and broke bread in years and my boyfriend is the best thing that's happened to me until I ate here! The crowd was a beautiful harmony of races and cultural backgrounds. The food complimented the guests in its rich flavors and unique combinations. I enjoyed the laid back but attentive service. Though a bit pricey, I will be a repeat guest."

  • "Red Rooster hits the mark on every level. The food is superb and the ambience of the restaurant is fabulous. The other section that should be included for review is how clean the restaurant is. I noticed immediately that everything was immaculate."

  • "An absolutely fantastic venue for a drink or intimate dinner. The quality and variety of food was a delight, and the wine/drinks list extensive. Make sure you get there early to soak in the atmosphere with a drink at the bar."

  • "We arrived for a 7:00 reservation and weren't seated 'til 7:30. It was very noisy and incredibly hot. The hostess was nice and brought us a complimentary glass of wine but once we were seated my husband asked for a glass of beer twice from 2 different waiters and never received it. The waitstaff seemed distracted and overworked. The food was good but not great. Certainly not worthy of the praise it has received nor the cost. We wouldn't return."

  • "Once you walk in, you are treated to a friendly greeting and a hip atmosphere. We asked our great server for her recommendations and ordered all three entrees: Fried chicken, meatballs, and mac and cheese with bacon and collard greens. They were fantastic comfort food."

  • "Not knowing what to expect, except a great time and great food, RRH did not disappoint! Our Order taker Sara was very gracious as were the full staff from check-in to servers to Mgmt to .... the air-conditioning was not fully functional, but the best of it was made. The ONLY request I would make from the experience is to have at least one 'vegan' friendly/available entree. We made it up as we went along, which showed flexibility and accommodation in and of itself."

  • "I cant find any words for our visit at Red Rooster. You have to go there.. the food, services, drinks, atmosphere.. the list can be long for whats great with this restaurant. Thank you Marcus Samulsson for the best dinner ever!"

  • "Red Rooster Harlem has the best spirit of any restaurant I've ever been to. The artwork, the personable staff, the happy-go-lucky diners, and the delicious food combine for a great evening in Harlem. We go to RRH each time we're in nyc."

  • "Aside from the food being absolutely incredible, the service was amazing as well. Originally had a table for 4 and wanted to add another person and the hostess when out of her way to help us add the additional person. Servers were friendly and never made us feel like we had to rush through dinner due to how busy it was on a Friday night. The chowder for two, cornbread and yardbird were all incredible. We also loved all of the different cocktail options they had. Great music, energetic vibes and a non-rushed experience were also appreciated. It is well worth the trip to Harlem. Would definitely go back and absolutely recommend."

  • "The ambiance is awesome - great bar, great vibe, excellent staff all around. Drinks and cocktails are also excellent. However, having been there twice now, I feel confident saying the food is only mediocre and way over priced. Go there for drinks and people watching, but skip the meal for a different and better priced (and tasting) Harlem dining establishment"

  • "Energetic atmoshephere with attractive people around a large bar is the centerpiece when you arrive. The restaurant seating was in the back. Took quite a while to get served at the crowded bar. Drinks were excellent. Even though we had a reservation it took time to be seated. Our food was inventive and for the most part excellent although I don't remember exactly what we had besides the corn bread which is why I am not giving it an excellent rating. Usually I remember details of my meal. We did not care for the kimchee lobster roll. Other then that the evening was delightful. A bit noisey if you care to have a substantive conversation."

  • "I was able to squeeze in a visit during a conference after trying to get a reservation on my first night in the city. I actually had to leave the session early to run across the street to Red Rooster. I had the mac and cheese + greens with lobster. I ate every drop. It was well worth the wait."

  • "I loves the energy of this place! Upon entering, you step straight into the bar area, which was energetic and lively. For the dining room, some of the tables are communal, so if you prefer a private table, you should probably mention that upon reservation. Service was good, and food was great. I had blackened catfish with cheddar grits, and that was definitely one of the best fish dishes I've ever had. If you are looking for an energetic place with a lot of people, and that serves good food, this is the place."

  • "I enjoyed this friendly, sparkling, familiar restaurant! I recommend the specialties - dishes that you do not find elsewhere and you feel a bit unsecure - try them! I am sure other dishes are great too, but you will remember the unusual ones. I would love to come back. For the atmosphere, food and great service. Anytime."

  • "We are a family of four with two teen-age dautghers. All of us really enjoyed the food. I had the Jerk Pork and it was delicious. The noise level was quite high but it was ok."

  • "What is all the hype about? Our front waiter not only forgot my wife's order, he tried to stick another table's bottle of wine on my check."

  • "Our waitress was outstanding (Tonia). The Host was very attentive and detail oriented. The yardbird was fantastic. Can't wait to come back to Harlem to Dine here again."

  • "This is my second visit to Red Rooster; my first visit was on New Years day. The restaurant is consistently vibrant and busy. The staff is always attentive and provides great service. The food is superb!! This time I was happy to see Chef Samuelson walking around the restaurant engaging with staff and patrons. I was bit disappointed I didn't get a chance to say hello to him and possibly take a pic but I was in very close proximity to him (e.g. less than 5 ft) and was happy to just see him all the same. :) I will definitely visit Red Rooster everytime I'm in town."

  • "Harlem in the evening (when is the last time you did that?) great food, cool drinks, reasonable wine, spectacular service from door to table. Who cares what it cost, which by the way was less than anything even close in Midtown. Skip it and you lose; thank you Marcus."

  • "Seeing the presence of the owner, Mr. Samuelsson speaks to his success. I was struck by the number of hostesses walking around making sure that the guests were attended to, the large waitstaff's attentiveness to the guests and again, the presence of Mr. Samuelsson shows his sincere involvement."

  • "Red rooster Harlem is one of the best restaurants i've been to! The food was delicious, the staff was service minded, happy and good at their job, the design of the place was cool. Great with live music!"

  • "This was the WORST dining experience I've had in recent memory. I made a reservation & was 5 minutes early. We get seated 25 minutes after the reservation time, without an apology or a reason from the hostess. And it went downhill from there. People seated 10 minutes later were served before we were. My expectations are not unreasonable - seat me on time, or explain why. Have the waiter at my table within 5 minutes after I'm seated. Don't tell me that you're going to make my evening perfect after I complain, and then continue with the awful service. Lastly, Andrew & Marcus must be doing this for a tax write off because money is flying out the door with the sloppy billing. All in all, just a poorly run place. What a waste."

  • "Red Rooster is an energetic and elegant restaurant. We felt most welcome and well attended. The food and wine was excellent. This was a monday evening and the band was playing really good music! The bar and restaurant was packed with all kind of people, mostly a young crowd. The decoration was nice. Everything was just perfect and we will return!"

  • "I have been here several times and it seems like each time I come the food quality gets worse. I do not know if they've changed there way of doing things but it definitely shows in their finished product. I was disappointed this time around."

  • "Like everyone else, I was curious to see if Red Rooster would live up to the hype. Upon arrival, I was delighted to be so warmly welcomed by the staff. The food however was just ok. There was nothing outstanding. You definitely can get better food for a fraction of the cost. But it is indeed an experience to dine there and people will always come to satisfy their curiosity like I did but, they will find that they have no desire to return."
