Red Rooster HarlemDelicious and UniqueWith a unique twist on down home favorites the food hear is very satisfying. We met some wonderful characters from the neighborhood at the table next to us who made our entire experience just that much more enjoyable. Must try the daily small bites that are off the menu and change daily-what a unique treat! Flavors abounded in everything we tried- this is not your grandmother's boring home cooking!5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMbirthday lunch3 of us who share birthdays in May have dined here for the last 3 years. It gets better every year. Service was great as was the food. Wine by the glass was a disappointment: poor selection and pricey. As a matter of fact it was pricey even to have the prix fixe lunch for $25 by the time you add wine and coffee and tip expect to pay $55. But it's such a nice spot we will go again. The salmon was delicious as was the carrot cake and ginger carrot soup.5/15/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth a trip uptownWe went on Monday night so we could hear the Jazz, and we loved everything about our experience. While the food is very rich, everything is excellent. We had a tough time choosing, the menu is that good. Very unique flavors in everything we tried - successfully adventurous - a tough thing to pull off, but they do. The service is impeccable from the Host/Hostess to the wait staff to the bus staff, and the ambiance is fabulous - a very positive vibe the minute you walk in. Overall, an amazing experience. Oh, and don't skip the shrimp grits or dessert, especially the homemade gelato and sorbet. Divine. I highly recommend the restaurant. We will definitely be going back.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThe exciting combination ofThe exciting combination of tast and spice make this into a marvelous jouney!5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMAll about the ambianceWalking into The Red Rooster is like walking into a completely different world. The ambiance and crowd are magnetic. We loved the music and the musicians. The service was impeccably dressed and very friendly. The food was very good, but it was the character of the restaurant that made the evening worthwhile for us.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful place!I had the best time. The staff was professionell and so nice and helpful, the food excellent and it was such an experience to see the mix of people visiting this place. The live music was amazing (jazz on the night I was there) and I left with a smile on my face that lasted for hours.
I highly recommend this place to anyone who likes people, music and good food.5/13/2013 12:00:00 AMGREAT dining experience!Every bite of every dish was foodie perfection -- my son & I shared fried green tomato app, then he had the yardbird & I had catfish. We also shared sweet potato donuts for dessert. All dished were well presented & tasted incredibly delicious! Our waiter Michael was super attentive, yet unobtrusive. The jazz band playing in the bar was also excellent. We'd love to go back next time we're in NYC & recommend RED ROOSTER highly!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMPersonableI've got a wonderful experience from Red Rooster. It was welcoming, warmhearted and a very friendly atmosphere when we got there. Everyone made sure we were well taken care off. And the food was delicious!!! Totally new and wonderful experience.5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat place with soulThe food was great. We tried the lunch 25 prix fixe menu: the gingered carrot soup, Helga´s meatballs and the three layer carrot cake.
The soup was fantatic, carrots, soy milk base and mint pesto - great combination! As a swede living far from homeland, the Helga´s meatballs are a must, so good with lingonberries, pickled cucamber, cabbage and mashed potatoes. And the carrot cake was a great ending of the meal, good size, great taste.
The place has a soul, love the atmosphere and the cosy interior. Chef Marcus´ greeting and talking to his costumers made the visit personal and complete.
We will definitely come back!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMSandra the server was great!!!The Starters was the best part off the evening, fantastic!!! We tried waffel/chicken and oysters. Uptown steak was very nice, with the best fries I ever triede. Pork and Salmon was good but not on the same level as the other course´s.Ended with Rooster mud pie, Truffles and Ice Cream all course´s were great! The server took us true the dinner with very good wine tip!
I will difinitly come back!5/9/2013 12:00:00 AMPlace to recommendWe were wery happy that we made a booking up there at Marcus' restaurant! Nice to see him there, nice to eat the great food and just nice to be there. It is a god memory of our visit in NYC!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a really good time.We had a really good time. Wait staff was fun and energetic. Food was very good, not great but certainly worth another visit.5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMRelaxing lunch with wonderfullyRelaxing lunch with wonderfully seasoned food. Our onl;y problem was which of the delicious sounding dishes to try on this first visit. But realizing we "out-of-towners" would be back took away that challenge.. Seeing Marcus in the dining room was icing on the cake!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst Time Going to Red Rooster...This was my first time going to Red Rooster and I have to say, I wish we had come here earlier. My boyfriend and I have been in the neighborhood for a few years and have been wanting to go for quite some time, but for one reason or another we never did. We finally decided to go for his birthday. Be some crazy happenstance, we went on the same day the king and queen of Sweden did. An added bonus! The food is simple, elegant, and delicious. Plus, there is a full bar with specialty cocktails. All in all, it was a wonderful experience. Can't wait to do it again!5/8/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent!Great food! Excellent music! Thank you for a really great night!5/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMy sister and I were visitingMy sister and I were visiting from Canada, so we made reservations a month in advance. We had both read the owner's book, "Yes, Chef" and wanted to experience the restaurant we had read about in the book. It was better than we expected.
The staff were fun and friendly, the service was fabulous and the food was divine. Two happy foodies left that night - but we'll be back!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat AtmosphereWe loved the atmosphere at the restaurant, staff was very friendly and the food was delicious, creative cooking. Thank you for a nice evening in New York.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing restaurant, amazingAmazing restaurant, amazing food and the best wait staff. Must love crowds!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWorth the cab rideIn the city for a long weekend and got a referral from a friend. If you want standard dining time plan WAY ahead, we reserved three weeks out and got a 10pm reservation. The kitchen is open to 11:30pm, so if you're up for a late night go sooner rather than later.
Party of four and we ordered dishes to share as a table; Fried Chicken & Waffles, Deviled Eggs, Spicy Wings, and Steamed Buns - every items was beyond wonderful. To wrap the night we ordered one of everything off the dessert menu. Portions were great for sharing and even then we couldn't finish everything. Atmosphere is vibrant and friendly, DJ was great. Be prepared to assert yourself if you have to order a drink at the bar before seating (this is no place for wallflowers).5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Place in HarlemYou must visit Red Rooster in Harlem. Famous Swedish chef Marcus Samuelsson' s place has a vibrant bar and a wonderful restaurant with great southern comfort food - don't miss it!5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent food at decent pricesThere was a lot of hype about this restaurant, and it was all true. Excellent dinner. Best choices were smoked trout, fried green tomatoes and cow peas.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMThe most expensive of threeThe most expensive of three excellent restaurants on Lenox Avenue between 125th and 126th streets in central Harlem, it is worth the added expense if you want dishes that really set themselves apart from the standard lunch fare. And the people watching is great. But if you're not in the mood to break the bank, Corner Social and Chez Lucien are also excellent.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMBig Portions & lots of noiseWe would have been better served to not order an appetizer and entree. We could not finish the food. It has a great feeling: very New York casual & friendly. I did not find the food to be out of this world. I think the spicing on the fried chicken could have been more innovative. And the oil it was cooked in was too hot, so very dark finish. The hardboiled eggs--a bit salty.
The chef is a lovely man and gives a good atmosphere.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMJust perfect!Lovely place and so nice people working there. Best food in New York. I Will be back. :)4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWelcoming, enjoyable and deliciousGreat atmosphere and delicious food.
Visiting NewYork for the first time and Red Rooster was one of the planned activities, booked 1 month ahead.
It was an perfect way to end the NY visit!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMgreat experienceWas greeted by a very service minded staff and quickly seated. fantastic drinks, food and all in all a very nice experience. Mr Samuelsson (chef & owner) even came out to our table and had a chat with us.4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMAlways a pleasureRed Rooster is such a great place for a night out, not just because of it's excellent and eclectic food, but because it is a whole experience. We went on Monday - Jazz night - and there was a live jazz band playing at the bar all night. Funky, upbeat jazz streaming into the restaurant area. Not a place for a quiet night out, but an awesome spot to have dinner, a few drinks and hear live music at the same time. Next time we might try Ginny's supper club downstairs!4/29/2013 12:00:00 AMthe staff was fantastic. andthe staff was fantastic. and everyone was great derek the bartendar was awesome and of course donald the waiter was sweet4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe went for lunch on a Friday. We went for lunch on a Friday. Fun, energetic atmosphere. I ordered the prix-fix with the ginger-carrot soup, mac and greens, and cupcake. Everything was solid, and the cupcake was fantastic, once I figured out you needed to eat it along with the ice cream and crumble. My friend ordered the chickily spilt sandwich, which is a chicken salad sandwich.Cornbread and parm fries (served oddly with ketchup) was just ok. Our server was a complete ditz. There's not much more on the menu that interests me so I'll probably not be back.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved it! Went two nightsLoved it! Went two nights in a row. Can't wait to go back.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMTHE PLACE = attractive & open;THE PLACE = attractive & open; THE VIBE = eccletic; THE SERVICE = friendly, top-knotch, attentive, not obtrusive; THE FOOD = great tasting, well-prepared and flavorful4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMfirst time thereWe were there for a late lunch. perfect timing. not crowded. food and service were excellent.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a great place! FoodWhat a great place! Food was amazing, service was lovely (and helpful), the place itself has a great vibe with its decor and spacious, lively bar space. I highly recommend that everyone make their way to Red Rooster!4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLives up to its reputationOur party of two enjoyed our lunch at Red Rooster, the food was excellent. Most diners don't like to be seated near the kitchen, but I enjoyed my seat directly facing the action. It was fun to watch the food preparation and server activity. Even though it was the lunch rush, the staff appeared to be relaxed and generally enjoying their work. My only negative comment is that the server did not mention that the Mac 'n Greens comes with a side salad when my husband ordered the dish along with a separate salad off of the appetizer menu. Both salads were great, but he would have ordered another appetizer if he'd known.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMNice place, the fried greenNice place, the fried green tomatoes is worth a visit!4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved this!! met and exceededLoved this!! met and exceeded all of my expectations!!!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMDo not miss this.Amazing food and our server was fantastic. Asked for suggestions and she did not steer us wrong. Had to wait 1/2 hour even though we had reservations and we could see the table was free but overall it was worth it. Way too many great selections so we did a bit of everything. When you even love the salad you know you cannot go wrong.4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMProbably the best serviceProbably the best service I can ever recall. Thanks for a wonderful meal.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMBomb food! The Yardbird wasBomb food! The Yardbird was delicious. Great atmosphere, beautiful art, wonderful ambiance.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMA fun experience! A greatA fun experience! A great neighborhood Restaurant with excellent food.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were surprised by the food.We were surprised by the food. Even better than I had imagined! The highlight was the Black Cod special we had that night. But from appetizer to dessert ... the flavors at the Red Rooster are very unique and the menu seemed to offer a welcome break from what is typically offered in Manhattan.
The service was impeccable and the staff very friendly and helpful (we had our 8-month old with us). Overall an outstanding dining experience and I can't wait to go back.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMSpectacular re-imaginingsSpectacular re-imaginings of classics, a wide-ranging menu, and a friendly and attentive staff make Red Rooster a standout special occasion restaurant. While the prices aren't necessarily conducive to bringing your kids, my fourteen-year-old and eight-year-old loved it, and there were other kids in the room. The energy level is fairly high, so I wouldn't choose Red Rooster for quiet conversation, but the food and the feel are outstanding.4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMNext time I go to New York,Next time I go to New York, I live in Sweden, I definitly come back. Both food and service were exeptionell good.4/15/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic. Great food andFantastic. Great food and wonderful pre-meal bar experience. Just great! Fantastic music, great cocktails.4/14/2013 12:00:00 AMI loved the stratosphere,I loved the stratosphere, the food, the service, and the drinks. I look forward to coming back with a larger group, because I think this restaurant is a great place for a nice dinner party of 4-6 people. I'm also excited to return, since I didn't get a change to check out the supper club downstairs. I can't wait to go back and try some new items!4/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGo for the ambianceThe ambiance was fantastic - people seemed happy to be there. The service was helpful and friendly. There was live music when we were there and it was great but behind the bar so didn't interfere with talking. I recommend the Obama-tini, a drink made with crushed red pepper. Food was good but it's the atmosphere that makes this place special. It was warm and inviting. An added plus: the restaurant is literally at the subway stop exit/entrance so it was very easy to get there.4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a great restaurant. EverythingWhat a great restaurant. Everything from the food (the corn bread) and the Caribbean bacon- a must! To the wonderful service! This place is a must. Meeting Marcus Samuelson was an added touch ! We loved it .4/7/2013 12:00:00 AMRed Rooster is a vibrant,Red Rooster is a vibrant, delicious dining experience!! The Food is fabulous, if you love Mac & Cheese, highly recommended as are the Fried Green Tomatoes. Judging from looking around at everyone's meal, there isn't a thing that you'll order you'd be disappointed by.4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMRed Rooster exceeds expectationsLunch at the Red Rooster exceeded our expectations from the moment we were greeted by a friendly hostess to the time we left, wishing we could come back for dinner. Our waitress made some good recommendations and gave us just the right amount of attention. My husband had the best "yard bird" fried chicken he's ever had and my macaroni and cheese with greens was also outstanding. To top it off, Marcus Samuelson walked around the restaurant and greeted every table. We came to New York from Michigan for a long weekend and the visit to Red Rooster was the highlight of our trip.4/5/2013 12:00:00 AMI cannot say enough good thingsI cannot say enough good things about Red Rooster - please pass my compliments along to them. My server, Donald I believe, was exceptional and I believe it was another host and hostess who also made Red Rooster just so special. The cornbread is to die for and all the food was made to perfection. Anyone can put different elements together to make a great restaurant but the spirit fostered by such great people is what makes Red Rooster exceptional!4/4/2013 12:00:00 AM
