Diner Reviews
  • "Avoid Saturday summer nights. Food is great, everyone enjoyed their meal. Service was worse than lousy. waited over one hour for two appetizers, and over an hour and a half for entrees. Then after our coffee we are told that they need our table. We would have been long gone if they brought us our meals. It they were not at least polite, they would have heard a response. Absolutely ridiculous."

  • "We've always enjoyed the food at red room, however this past Monday we came away disappointed. I had indicated on my reservation that one member of our party had gluten issues. As we began to order the waiter informed us they had no gf pasta, even though the online & table menus advertised. I had farfalle with shrimp which was good, my sister with the gluten problem had chicken with string beans (they also had no rice or risotto, nor was a potato offered). Another guest had chicken parm & my husband had sausage, broccoli rabe & orecchiette. He said his dish was flavorless - soupy with very little broccoli rabe. Also I ended up not eating my Caesar salad, which is usually always a safe dish, as it was "mustardy" tasting, which was odd."

  • "The food was great. Very fresh. Delicious. service was great. First time there and I look forward to go back. Even the background music was perfect to set the ambiance."

  • "The food is good and its a great neighborhod place. They just aren't equipped to handle the shore crowds that are going to happen on a Friday or Saturday night at the shore. If you aren't willing to wait hour and a half for your entree's, then better to go another night. The food is always good though."

  • "Food was ok, ravioli was fresh and tender but small portion, chicken with procuitto and spinach was delicious, spaghetti and clams just ok, Caesar salad was good ,though small, ordered calamari but the fryer was broken. Good bread, great service, very attentive. We feel that first timers should receive the same treatment as regulars."

  • "After reading the other responses, I'm surprised they're talking about the same restaurant. While the food was good (albeit pricey), the service was left to be desired. After waiting 20 minutes for an appetizer and an additional 30 minutes for entrees, one would think that the waiter would have stopped by more than once (which conveniently happened when the owner was walking by). I also didn't really appreciate getting lectured by a member of the wait staff about how they can't "cater to customers needs" by having limes (I asked if I could have one). While this may have been a one-time bad experience, it definitely doesn't make me want to try this restaurant again -- particularly when there are so many great ones in the area."

  • "Very friendly. Food good but needs more flavor. Flat tasting. Good service. Waitress wrote veal chop medium but was well done...no flavor. Fish fresh but could use some spices. Will go back"

  • "We had a 9 pm reservation. They sat us at 9:30. There was a large party that sat down just ahead of us. We ended up eating at around 10:45. They never even expalinedor apologized. Overall a nice place and we have eaten there mnay times but they handled that situation poorly."

  • "The food was very good with large portions. The staff was also very nice."

  • "The wait staff are attentive and caring. The owner knows us by name and tries to accommodate our family or friends when we come in a larger group. The food is SOOOO good! Their halibut is the ONLY fish my daughter in law will eat. I had the crab cakes on Saturday which were light, big and delicious. Their nightly specials are not overly priced. The menu is reasonable compared to how much the restaurants on the Island have increased. And it's a BYOB."

  • "So glad we had dinner here. We didn't even know it existed (found it on Open Table) since it's off the beaten path. As per the other reviews, the portions are generous AND DELICIOUS! We had the calamari and pulp salad, very tasty. I had the chicken with spinach, tomatoes, and mozzarella and my husband had a veal dish. Both winners. We'll be back."

  • "Some of the best Italian food in the shore area. Always a friendly greeting when you arrive and the food is great. Byo and enjoy - try the fish or veal and you can't go wrong. Also fab pastas. "

  • "Discovered this restaurant at Ventnor's Chefs Night Out.We decided to give it a try and are glad we did. Went with another couple. We all ordered something different and everyone enjoyed their meal - chicken Limone, Sea Bass, Tilapia and a pasta/seafood dish. We were there for 3 hours. Service was good. No one hurried us to leave. Will definitely go back - also it was a little less expensive than we expected - and definitely less expensive than some of the other restaurants we go to for special occasions so will likely become our anniversary/birthday celebration go to place!"

  • "You know those old fashioned Italian restaurants that are hangouts for movie gangsters? The food looks so wonderful you could cry. Will this is the place where regular people can get that food. I got homemade pasta with bolognese. While the flavor was great, there wasn't much meat. My partner who eats his food plain got lemon chicken which was a large portion and very tasty. Next time I plan to keep it simple and order traditional favorites like meatballs and spaghetti Bread crusts were good, I don't like the fluffy insides. BYOB with a liquor store next door-rotten selection of white wines tho."

  • "Food at this BYO in Ventnor is just fine but I cannot understand why the service is poor. This is the second time I have been to this spot. Last time was a party of four, this time five. The food is good but it is evident that they are understaffed with waiters. It appears that one server was working the entire room and he was disinterested at best. If this is what its like out of season, can you imagine what it will be like after Memorial Day?"

  • "This was our second time at this restaurant. The first time the food was delicious. This time, not so much. The veal was a little tough and my stuffed shrimp lacked flavor. The stuffing was bland. We like the restaurant and the owners were nice, but we were a little disappointed."

  • "be pleasantly surprised by the great food; above average portions and superb service. Can't say enough about this gem in Ventnor Heights just over Dorset Ave Bridge. Hugh selections of appetizers s and entrees. You will not be disappointed. On the night we went, place was packed It was Saturday of AC restaurant week. Noise level on the high side but vibrant-- with people and staff having a good time. Sat behind the owner and did not know it until I was raving about the food and service to the group sitting with her. My new number one place to dine out! Coz"

  • "Everything we ate was delicious. The food was dropped and we never saw anyone again until 15 min after we were done our meal. Just waited way too long between courses. We were there for restaurant week so I would think they would be expecting more business. One waiter for the whole dining room, needed more. Ordered coffee, tasted like he tried to make 3 cups out of one. Worst ever. Will give another try, hope the service is better. Food is great though."

  • "Our group was very surprised as how good the food was. Did you say big portions? Wow we all left with leftovers, very clean and great staff."

  • "Didn't know this restaurant existed, but I am happy I took the time out to review all 80 plus restaurants. I loved the fact that they offered their entire menu for Restaurant Week. I believe they were the only restaurant that did this? Also, they are a BYOB establishment, and that is a good thing. I loved their calamari appetizer, and their canoli dessert was delectible. They make their on bread. They are certainly worth a try, it is a good choice, so do it and enjoy!"

  • "This is a great Italian restaurant. I like it so much last year that I had to come back this year. The fried calamari were squizziti!! although te apple pie wasnot so hot. It wasn 't home made. The owner comes out and makes you feel welcome."

  • "The food is great, we went during restaurant week and the food was great. It is a BYOB, so make sure you bring your own wine if you like a glass with dinner. It had a great family feel to it, when you walked in the owner greets you and makes you feel right at home. Definitely recommended"

  • "We made reservations and arrived at 11 for lunch, the restaurant was open, but the staff seemed confused that we were there. They said they weren't expecting anyone so early and had to continue setting up while we were there. Very friendly and the food was great, but everyone who walked in was greeted by a confused staff member after standing in the doorway for a few moments. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and I would go again, just seemed a little bit disorganized."

  • "It was a full house. Our waitress was very sweet. We ordered & got salads shortly, but then waited 90min for entrees! it wasn't only us. they apologetized. food was good but not great. pizza oven did not get used at all. increase productivity and decrease customer wait by expanding the kitchen. i read similar experiences on yelp and trip advisor. The place is cute. I was hoping to find it better than what others experienced. I believe if they address the kitchen issue this could definitely improve."

  • "The Red Room Café has excellent homemade pastas, sea food and meat dishes. During Restaurant Week, they allowed diners to choose right from the regular menu. The portions were great and the food was delicious and presented beautifully. The restaurant is a BYOB establishment. There is a liquor store next door, so it's easy to pick up a bottle of wine to bring to dinner. The server was very attentive and pleasant. The restaurant was very busy, but not too loud to hold a conversation at our table. The décor, lighting and music all added a wonderful ambiance. We have dined at the Red Room Café a few times and have had a wonderful meal each time. We'll definitely be back!"

  • "Service and food we ok but not outstanding.. Apetisers were good - one of the main course orders was wrong and had to wait for correct order to come to the table by which time I was half way through my entree. All in all a nice little place but not memorable."

  • "Not quite sure how people would have any complaints about the Red Room Cafe. Food was absolutely fantastic, service was great and it's a BYOB! All of that, along with great company, you really couldn't ask for a better night. I would highly recommend this to anyone."

  • "One of the best values for Restaurant Week - or at any other time! Food is on par with the best Italian restaurants around. Fish was fresh, simply prepared and exquisite. Don't forget this place just because it is in the heights. Pastas are varied and each one better than the other. We'll be back and often."

  • "We always out for lunch or dinner during AC Restaurant Week. For several years, we went to the many casino restaurants and were never disappointed. But this year, we decided to hit smaller, local town establishments. One of these was The Red Room Cafe in Ventnor. We had lunch, but it was really dinner sized. It was a steal at $15. I had Chicken Vincenzo.....loaded with flavor and delicious. Hubby had the Veal with Peppers and enjoyed it...very tender and plentiful. There is a liquor store next to the restaurant if you forget to bring your own. Owners and staff very attentive and friendly."

  • "Byob's a must for me. I had a great filet mingon with a terrific sauce. My wife had the lamb chops, just ok. Pasta for starters was very light with a thick red sauce. Dessert ok. Service was just right and very amicable. Overall a very good experience and will be going back. Only a few miles from all a/c casino's."
