  • "Have heard of the Red Ox Inn for a while. When there for dinner with a friend on Thursday. GREAT experience all in all. Food was excellent. Sweet peas, mint and white chocolate soup was amazing. Halibut and scallops in wild mushroom sauce was very tasty, although I found the fish was a little tougher than my liking. The Apple Tart with caramel ice cream was very yummy, especially the caramel ice cream. Service was wonderful. Perfect little place for some quite conversations. Highly recommended! "

  • "Food tasted fabulous although I think it had large amounts of MSG as I was quite crappy feeling after eating here. Noisest fine dining restaurant I have ever been to. Small portions with High prices. Prices are comparable to a dinner on the eiffel tower. but this place has poor service. 2 waitresses for the 12 tables and barely even seen her during our meal. Poor Poor first impression"

  • "The atmosphere and service were fantastic but the star of the night was definitely the food (and my husband!). We were completely glutinous because we don't get fancy nights out often and ordered three appetizers for the two of us. The kitchen split the soup for us and the beef tatar which was great not to be reaching and spilling soup, however to our surprise and delight the best app was the mac and cheese. They came out in just the right order as determined by the chefs. The mains were delicious, exceptional bread pudding under the beef tenderloin. And we can't leave out dessert of the apple tart, the lemon shortbread topping made the dessert! A wonderful evening of truly memorable food and company."

  • "We'd been here before for an anniversary dinner so we knew that the small dining atmosphere would be perfect for bringing my parents. My mom doesn't like a lot of background noise so this was excellent for that. The food itself, while the menu does change semi-frequently due to stock and supplies, doesn't disappoint but rather disappears off our plates quickly! We all had an appetizer, there was a nice variety, we all had a main course, and we all had desert. The portions were a perfect amount so that I wasn't bursting at the seams, which is a nice change especially when fine dining. The service was excellent, our waiter was humorous and took excellent care, another perk to a smaller gem of a restaurant. We will absolutely be returning!"

  • "My husband and I have been here a few times now and we have always been very impressed. They are able to accommodate my fairly restrictive food allergy with a number of very tasty options. They take simple food ingredients and make them taste amazing."

  • "My hubby & I had heard great things about this restaurant but never found time to go. It was well worth the wait, the only downside was the birthday party seated next to us who were steadily getting louder and more obnoxious."

  • "I took my now fiancé to the red ox for dinner and proposed that night. The staff was amazing and brought us out a couple glasses of champagne to help us celebrate. The food was great and I plan to continue coming back to the red ox inn for years to come."

  • "Been to the Red Ox Inn before and like before the food is excellent. The staff was friendly and knowledgable about the food. I would go back anytime."

  • "Wonderful dining experience. The restaurant is warm and inviting, and the staff even greeted me by name - I'm guessing because of the opentable reservation. Every element is flavorful with great texture. You must save room for dessert, especially the chocolate tart. The food is prepared with attention to details. Lots of thought put into making sure every item has a reason - too many high end places toss together random elements that dont synergize. For example, my fontina ravioli wasn't coated with a sauce, but the wilted spinach on top was lightly coated in butter and that let me taste the pasta dough and filling with the butter flavor as an accent. A lesser restaurant would rely on the butter and filling."

  • "We made reservations and had to change the time the day before. They were very accommodating and the service was great. We had the parsnip soup and beef tartar for starters. The soup was unique and had a distinct aroma. We were very impressed with the apps. My husband and I ordered the duck breast and beef tenderloin. Was looking forward to the mushroom bread pudding but it was a disappointment. Both proteins were bland. Portions were descent and definitely not small as some suggested to be. Overall 7/10."

  • "Hadnt been here for far too long...was as good as I remembered. Need to come back soon!!! The beet & goat cheese salad was yummy...as was the black cod. All 3 diners had equally delicious meals. Server was perfect!"

  • "My husband and I planned on eating at Red Ox Inn for several years based on what we heard from our friends. We decided it would be a great place to celebrate our new mortgage FREE status. My cod dish was absolutely superb! The fish was cooked perfectly. My husband had the duck and thought the figs made it sweeter then he preferred. For an appetizer we shared the smoked salmon which melted in our mouths. The desserts, lemon custard and chocolate, were delicious!. We found the restaurant furnishings minimal and therefore not a lot to absorb sound. It would have been nice to see some artwork on the walls from local artists. Overall a great night!."

  • "A long time, top rated restaurant in Edmonton...and rightfully so. My wife and I love to eat good food, and in the last few years we've been overjoyed to see our culinary scene blossom into it's own. But despite all of the hot new restaurants that we've tried lately, I have to say that our best all around experience in recent memory in this city has to be our dining experience at the Red Ox Inn. All of our dishes were masterfully prepared, and you can tell that the chef is one who focuses on the small details (down to the perfectly chopped, same-sized squares of apple in the apple tart). Good wine list, service was good without being stuffy, and the ambiance had a great minimalist yet warm feel to it. We will definitely be back!"

  • "I have nothing but great things to say about this restuarant, this is the second time my wife and I have visited this place in a month. The first time we went for Valetines day the second time with a group of friends. Everything on the menu is tasty and great, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. The service is great, the wine menu was excellent, everything was awesome!!! Great place for a date, We really recommend this place, Thanks"

  • "I'm so sorry. I realized the next day I miss calculated the tip in a bad way to the server. (7:45 march 8th) The food was fantastic as always. By far the best food in Edmonton."

  • "We went to this restaurant for the first time on a recent Saturday night. We made arrangements earlier that day and were able to secure an 8:00 reservation for two. Drawbacks: - It was loud and I would have appreciated a little more separation between tables to afford more private dinner conversation. - The scallops that came in my parsnip and pear soup were smoked. To me, they seemed almost raw and I would have very much preferred a beautifully seared scallop. Benefits: - The staff were busy but very pleasant. I didn't think any of our wait times were unreasonable. - The beef tenderloin I requested medium to medium-rare was served blue. - Overall, the meal and evening were very pleasant and I would recommend to others."

  • "when we first arrived we thought we walked into the wrong entrance, went out and came back and there was a waitress. the place is very noisy and too close to your fellow patrons. we could not hear each other but no problem hearing the persons beside us.. the appetizers were good, then there was a long wait for our main course-just about an hour, my tenderloin was not medium as I requested but rare. my husbands cod had no flavour. We could not hear the what the waitress was saying, so we did not know exactly what else was on the plate. they were pleasant, but definitely was a very long evening and not at all what we expected. Disappointed."

  • "I have a "foodie" friend from Vancouver who believes this is the best restaurant in Edmonton. Having been there a number of times I can only agree that it is always a great place to eat and the food is always excellent."

  • "We had heard such great things about this restaurant. We drove up to it and loved the look. The ambiance was warm inside with simple decor. Our waitress was excellent throughout the entire evening. The food however was ok. Unfortunately the tenderloin steaks were both under cooked. We sent one back as it was severely rare, which was not what we ordered. The potatoes were over flavoured. Overall a nice place, glad we tried it, won't be back soon."

  • "The smoked salmon appetizer was amazing, and the beef tenderloin was very good. Was not impressed with the cheese plate, but the "chocolate" would be highly recommended. I felt the service made me feel like I didn't belong there. I will return, but hope I will be welcomed."

  • "This was our third or fourth visit to Red Ox and once again we were not disappointed. The service was outstanding and the food (once again) was excellent. We enjoy the cozy atmosphere of this restaurant and always look forward to returning. Keep up the good work Red Ox! We were especially happy with the service. Our server was very helpful and explained each dish as it was presented."

  • "Amazing food. Horrible service. The restaurant has only 9 tables and two servers. This should be easy but we ended up spending 3.5 hours there for a cold appetizer a main and coffee. We were ready to scream by the end. We eat at many fine dinning restaurants and I know that a good meal takes time. Being ignored for 45 min at a time with empty glasses and dirty dishes on your plate is another thing. People were walking out and getting very frustrated. Would not return unless new servers were there. Or if we ate first so we were ready for the epic wait."

  • "This is one, if not, the best dinning out in Edmonton. Simply amazing. The tiny little restaurant had a great feeling. Servers were fantastic. The food was orgasmic. It really really was. The cod was the best fish I have ever eaten. The duck was again amazing. This place was such a great find!!!"

  • "My husband and I have been coming to The Red Ox Inn since moving to the neighborhood in 1994. Andrea & Frank have committed themselves to making this restaurant a top winner in Edmonton. We love that it is in our neighborhood and support it whenever we can, including donating gift certificates to charity events. Although the menu has changed through the years, we are always finding something that has become our "new favorite"! The staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable and not hesitant to offer their own personal favorite food or wine."

  • "This is a small restaurant, so the seating is somewhat "intimate". The decor is spartan, but this may be preferable in such a small space. We shared two appetizers: steak tartare and mushroom with poached egg. The kitchen kindly split the tartare into separate plates so that we were each served a properly garnished plate. The tartare was good and the mushroom, excellent. Service had been impeccable up to this point but the restaurant had become full. There was a significant delay (40 mins) between our second appetizer and the entrées. However, the food (roast duck, served simply but very tasty) was worth the wait. For dessert, tried the apple tart with salted ice cream, which was tasty. Overall, very pleasant. Good, straightforward food."

  • "Well off the beaten path, this is truly one of the hidden gems in the city of Edmonton. If you like close settings, with a very loose but sophisticated aura, then this is one you will love. We've been here a few times now and tried almost everything from the short listed menu items. The biggest hits are the duck breast & lamb but the salad the wine selection and the deserts (pick any one) are absolutely delicious. The biggest knock on this place is that the food is so good you could easily overindulge! Feeling a bit guilty singing its praises because I'd like to keep it all to myself; but it is definitely one that everyone should experience. At the top of our list of premier choices for a meal out."

  • "2nd time we have been to Red Ox Inn and the second time we have been similarly impressed with their food. The menu changed up a little bit and we were worried we couldn't order the same amazing dishes we had the previous time. Needless to say we were pleasantly surprised that the new dishes were as good, or even better than the previous ones. Highly recommend! We had the lavender duck breast and black cod with mixed mushrooms and sea scallops (amazing. Amazing.)"

  • "Amazing! My hubs and I are not quite "foodies" per se, we just really appreciate a tasty meal that introduces us to new flavors and concepts in the food realm. This place was fantastic, we literally tried almost everything on the menu (we can really strap on the old feedbag). We started with the soups, had the beet salad and pork belly, had the lamb and the short ribs, the cheese plate and the pound cake...ALL of it was delicious! Our server was a gentleman who was serious about the dishes (he could probably play the Alex Trebec of food Jeopardy) and was very efficient with our many courses. Definitely worth a try!"
