Jackie was our server. The alacran margarita sure had a bite (a spicy bit). Gotta be careful with that alacran margarita. It will definitely creep up on your. Thanks for the experience Red O."

  • "Having a reservation and not being seated until 45 minutes after the reservation time is practically a deal-breaker for me. The food was very good. And the bartender that serves us during that 45 minute wait was super nice and attentive. I really enjoyed my drinks and food. I had the macha guacamole, yellowtail ceviche and goat cheese tamales. All were very flavorful, seasoned and spiced well. My husband had the duck taquitos and suckling pig, both of which he said were delicious but he really loved the pork. They offered a free round of drinks for the wait and our server, while nice, forgot to put in one of our appetizer orders. He comped that but not the drinks. For the food, I would go back. But due to the service, I probably won't."

Having to wait 20 + minutes for a table, though we had a reservation, and a waiter who went AWOL after taking our orders. We were never asked if we likes our meal, I'd we needed another glass of wine - nothing. Can't recommend this place on any level."

  • "I chose the restaurant for Dina LA for the chance to finally get to try Rick Bayless's food. The positives are a beautiful indoor/outdoor vibe and great service once seated at our table and happy to be seated outside. Negatives are the bar service-we arrived a little early so we went to the bar hoping to get drinks and enjoy them while waiting for our table. In the 20 minutes it took to get our table, we were invisible for the first 10 and waited the next 10 for the drinks in time to move them to our table. The food was on the bland side, needed that pop of flavor including the desserts. We considered trying them for brunch when our daughters came to visit, but changed our minds after dinner and made reservations at a place that is delish!"

  • "Hi: My friend and I went to Red O because DineLA Week -- but used the regular menu instead. The margaritas were great (I had the skinny one and my friend had the CasaBlanca). The service was wonderful. Michael, our server was friendly, knew the menu, and didn't push us to hurry. We stayed long after we finished our meal and no one was hovering over us. He made a few good recommendations and they were spot on. The food was delicious. I can see why the restaurant is still popular after all these years. I would recommend the restaurant to my friends and out-of-town guests. I didn't realize the music was live -- a woman singer and piano. She was fabulous!!!!!"

  • "Our first visit to Red-O will definitely not be our last. Everything we ordered was a perfect gem, from the margaritas to the appetizers and main courses. If I have even a small quibble, it would be that I didn't the the Quatro Leches cake lived up to its menu description (a little dry) but overall one of the best meals I've had in LA. Goat cheese and corn tamales were AMAZING."

  • "Offers brunch. But shouldn't. Unable to *time* their dishes so you wait forever and eggs dishes arrive cold and almost inedible. And then the bill arrives and you will see they have inflated the *suggested tips* so the % are based on a number that is much higher than the actual bill in an attempt to get you to leave a much higher tip than than would be ever warranted on such a mediocre dining experience. Space is pretty though. So there's that."

  • "I rarely eat Mexican food for dinner and if I do I want it to be exceptional which I was expecting. Yes the food was not bad but not amazing, and I recently had amazing mexican food in Sedona of all places on Memorial Day weekend. The service was awful. Our waiter was not attentive, forgot the MAIN part of our order which had us sitting for 45 minutes without any food until WE had to remind him. He didn't check on us. He didn't ask. We ordered a few rounds of drinks from their menu. The waiter forgot never asked how they were. I wouldn't go there again. In that price category I would expect a completely different experience..."

  • "We were very disappointed to find our favorite dish the whole Branzino Veracruz was no longer on the menu. So we asked for the manager and expressed our feelings. He told us the menu was changed and pointed out the other fish on that was available. Then there was something wrong with the two entrees we ordered. Jim the manager & Justin the head chef, stopped by our table and were both very apologetic about our dissatisfaction of our dishes. They offered to make up for it, and on our next visit they would accommodate us with what we came in for in the first place. We just need to call a couple of days in advance, so they can order the whole Branzino. I appreciate the great customer service, and will be back."

  • "We began in the bar for some tasty guacamole and cocktails. The bartender was knowledgeable and gave the right amount of attention. He recommended a great wine for dinner. We shared oysters (great) kale (must have again), sopas (dreamy!) And duck tacos (yum). The live music really set the perfect tone for a great evening. Prices were slightly higher than expected, but the experience was so great, we must return."

  • "This past Sunday was another home run dining experience at Red O. Although I usually come for dinner, the Sunday brunch offers a nice menu from which to order, plenty of brunch beverage choices - both traditional & Mexican inspired, a Spanish guitarist, and the beautiful décor which looks equally good in the day as it does at night. Our server, Ronald, was welcoming, appreciative of return customers and helpful with menu selections. My corn cakes with goat cheese, bacon and eggs was truly satisfying. My dining partners were happy with the picada de carnitas & huevos a la Mexicana. Chips & salsa were brought the table with refills aplenty; chips were beautifully warmed and crisp. This is Mexican food/dining at its finest."

Although Open Table misaligned our meal by allowing us to list it at 3 pm on a Sunday when the restaurant kitchen would, in fact, be closing, Red O reached out, contacted us and agreed to change our meal time to 2 pm so we could have an enjoyable birthday event for my wife. To me, this was indicative of the proactive and highly attentive customer service that we enjoyed during our visit."

  • "These guys do the simple stuff, better. Their guacamole is just tastier. The acid, the heat, the salt, it's just brighter and tastier than the normal guac ANY-where else. Their salsas? Are preposterously tasty. Again, it says something about a place that puts that much care into... what one can argue are simply "condiments." The main fare matches this level of attention. Sauces, meats, beans, rice, all just a notch better than what you're used to getting. Fresher, punchier. Food's great and reliable."

The service was good and the food was good, but nothing extraordinary. I did like my halibut. But I'm not sure I'd bother going back. Nice margarita list."

I would say one could have a similar experience at Chevys. Monterey Jack Cheese is definitely a marker for bad Mexican. This place might be great for anywhere else in the US, but definitely doesn't work here in LA."

  • "The bartenders were fantastic! The Margaritas superb!! Housemade lime juice- Fresh! The margaritas are shaken to make sure the lime juice and tequila blend. The Maitre D' was wonderful and offered us a booth,even though there was just two of us. The waiter was great. The manager was really friendly. Actually , everyone was friendly."

  • "We were two couples with an eleven year old girl and they treated her like a princess (caramel corn included). Because the music inside can be daunting, we moved twice but the service people were champs about it. Our server and wait people were terrific; prompt with every request. On the outside patio you are still dealing with street noise, but that fades into the background. Food was indeed very good. Very generous with the lamb, cochinita pibil was tasty (although this is not a version with much sauce). We're snobs about our guacamole and tasted two (regular and walnut); both okay. Overall, a really nice experience. Wouldn't put it anywhere near Frontera, Bayless's stellar restaurant in Chicago, but we had a good time."

  • "We had 8:30 reservations and were seated no more than 15 minutes after we arrived. The restaurant is lovely & we also liked the live music from 2 guitarists. We loved the chic atmosphere! I ordered a Skinny Margarita which was yummy. We had 2 appetizers: Ceviche & the duck taquitos. The Ceviche came with plantain chips. I ordered the Little Gem salad. I joked that they should rename it the Big Gem salad. I shared it with my son & husband. For main courses I had the Halibut. My husband had the Mole Chicken & my son had the Mole Lamb. The portions are generous! We all loved our dishes but we had no room for dessert. The service was outstanding & even though it was pricey we felt the meal was worth it."

The rice was dry and burnt, the beans tasteless and the enchiladas had an unpleasant vinegary flavor; they should be a bit on the sweet side...So bad the experience, we decided not to bother with desert. I have eaten there many times in the past 3-4 years and had always been happy with my food. Not sure I will be going back any time soon."
