Diner Reviews
  • "Beautifully presented dishes. A challenge that will push your boundaries in a good way. Perhaps the next step is crafting the story behind each dish."

  • "super creative use of ingredients. Two of the four dishes we ordered were amazing. I'd come back to try some of the others even though we struck out on the other two. Definitely worth a try for those with a more adventuresome palette."

  • "The food was interesting and inventive. Looked a little bit like a science project at first, but after a bit it lived up to the raving reviews. For two people, we had five small plates and left incredibly stuffed with a hard time deciding which we liked the most. Must try!"

  • "A lot of attention given to the appearance of dishes. True masterpieces ... but the tastes simply do not accord. And a few potatoes, a little vinaigrette and a leaf or two in a large beautiful bowl do not make you a master chef. 300$ for two for the tasting menu with (poor) wine pairing simply isn't worth it. Our biggest disappointment in L.A."

  • "The first time I dined at Red Medicine, I was very impressed with the service as well as the quality and artistry of the various dishes we ordered. It was such a positive experience, that I referred the restaurant to many friends. However, after my most recently experience, I will not be returning. While the food was good, the arrogance and unfriendly attitude of our waitress (primarily) and staff ruined our evening... no smiles or helpful suggestions when asked about the menu. When we left, no one (our waitress, the host, or bartender) asked us how we enjoyed our meal or thanked us for coming. The attitude was across the entire staff which leads me to believe that it must be driven by management. What a disappointment!"

  • "It was our first visit so we tried the tasting menu. What a treat! The menu reads like a foodie fantasy (redwood shoots? Trout roe and sweet peas? Rhubarb vinaigrette?) and each course delighted us. After three courses to get our taste buds singing, the perfectly prepared lamb shoulder made the meal. All this for $65."

  • "Ambiance & food unique. Service a bit numb. just service. Doesn't match what this place is trying to be. Food & presentation outstanding. Would go back absolutely. My wife's 2nd visit $ same experience."

  • "We selected the tasting menu. For us it was a foodie adventure. All the dishes, there were six of them, we're served in different serving pieces with many different ingredients in each dish. I bet many you have never eaten before. If you want an adventure, this is the restaurant for you."

  • "The food is terrible. We ordered half the menu and every dish that came out was more bland, more soggy and more unfortunate than the last. Only come here if you are on a diet and don't want to eat too much, or anything."

  • "Red Medicine is knocking on the door of divine. It's ambiance is almost great; looks much better in the day than the night. The servers are attractive, attentive (some more than others, for sure), and personable (some more than others, for sure). The food runners are knowledgeable about the plates they are serving, but rattle their scripts off far to hurriedly and emotionless while looking around the restaurant. The food is on the verge of being amazing although temperature is definitely an area for improvement. So if you want a dining experience that is way above mediocre, Red Medicine should be on your list. But don't expect perfection."

  • "The food was really good and the presentation was phenomenal. I am definitely planning on returning here to try a few things out and have another go at the Pheasant. The cocktails were also interesting and tasty, I want to try some of the more unique ones next time. The only down side was that the server was a bit impatient with our questions; perhaps they were uncomfortable going off script (just guessing). When we asked questions, rather that directly answer, they repeatedly interrupted us mid ask in order to jump into their bit about the dish which eventually covered the information we wanted to know."

  • "What a fantastic place. Jordan Kahn orchestrates an experience that I feel is above Providence and The Bazaar by Jose Andres. There is something so special when the chef can created a dish so that one can taste the color of bright green in a pea or the earthiness of the delicate mushrooms foraged by the staff. I love this place and will be a grateful patron for life. You MUST try Red Medicine!"

  • "Loved experience with the exception of head waitress? Mini maitre de? Little Asian gal was full of attitude although other servers- food - desserts were fabulous. We were easy group of 3 but she was obviously doing us a favor by taking orders, etc. Would return but might make a few comments if she "helped" us again!!"

  • "Really enjoyed Red Medicine the first time Brought friends and enjoyed it as much 2nd time as well Loved the presentation and the combinations are very imaginative. Space is small and intimate- great for a mid-week special occasion."

  • "From its food to pairings to presentation, Red Medicine killed it with their tasting menu!"

  • "Waitress disinterested and never even smiled throughout the evening....didn't tell my wife and I pork belly was for 4 persons....never refilled club soda without being asked.....even just took the glass away without a word. Asked her for more lettuce for the 4 person pork belly.....it never came. She never smiled. Restaurant was not busy when we arrived .....the manager used this as an excuse when I related all the above to her."

  • "The food is very unique and original as are the drinks. You need to come with a spirit of adventure. Sadly our server was rather rude, ignored allergies and had an "attitude"."

  • "Here is a unique restaurant. We had the tasting menu and each dish was a surprise, a delight and a voyage. New ingredients (mostly vegetable), new preparations, new tastes and all done with presentation style. We will be back and will bring our foodie friends."

  • "Not knowing what to expect, that turned out to be a good thing - because I never could have imagined the creative and delicious forces behind every dish. If you have an experimental bone in you - Red Medicine is a wonderful experience. The shortcomings are almost forgiving given the quality and presentation, however I believe the issues are easily fixed. The Menu - I needed a guided tour through almost every dish - and our waitstaff was too rushed to define many of the terms used. The pace of the food is random - which I understand - however the plating often required space the table no longer had - forcing the finishing (rushing) of a dish. Plan on nothing less then almost 2 hours for a party of 4. Finally - when do menus change?"

  • "... and reasonable value given the quality. The service, given what was coming out of the kitchen should have been much more involved. You can't bring out such interesting food, with so much going on, and not describe it. Similarly, if you're going to have drink pairings, the server should have been more forthcoming with information about the food and the experience writ large. Nevertheless, we had a WONDERFUL meal and the service was adequate in that the food came out and we got to eat it. We simply expected more."

  • "Hats off to Red Medicine! Every foodie should experience this menu! Unreal, heavenly, an absolute do not miss! And the bar! Try as many of the drinks as you can!!"

  • "one of the most creative culinary experience I've made and, believe me, I made a few. Saveurs, textures, presentation almost everything to make it one the most desirable address to have diner in Beverly Hills. Only dark side, the service. Both play it well mannered modern casual upper middle class but they both are snody and contemptuous. Just unbearable! It is a shame."

  • "Brought my friend from out of town on a return trip as we couldn't wipe the memory of the magnificent dessert of our first visit from our mind. I only am slightly saddened that the Heirloom Rice Porridge was no longer (maybe seasonally) on the menu, as I often dream of inhaling that dish as well. We opted for the Tasting Menu this visit, as it encompassed the most mouth-watering pieces from the regular menu, and it didn't disappoint. Dish after dish was a delicious and whimsical vision, completed with the much photo-lauded SHAVED ICE OF REDWOOD STEMS dessert. It's a perfectly curated culinary journey of complex and perfectly proportioned flavors. The most beautifully unique dining experience in LA."

  • "So I'm new to Cali, and wanted to have a different type of dining experience out of the norm. Little did I know this was going to be it then some!! Great creative food & drinks. It's a must see."

  • "We had the tasting menu, very unique flavors profiles and presentation. We like the trout roe but thought the ice shell should be a bit thinner, 2nd course was delicious, loved the walnut marzipan. Crab was good with the greens but a bit too salty for me, lamb is never my favorite but my husband likes it so we tried it, it was nice, just not our favorite (was not gamey at all which was a plus) My favorite was the dessert, really different textures, flavors. Something you can't duplicate at home and that is why we go out to these kind of restaurants! We ate most of it even though we were full. It was overall delicious and we would go back to try other items on the menu."

  • "I've been trying to get into Red Medicine and never made it until last night. The place had so many restrictions when it first opened that I was turned off. A few years running and competition softened their managers, I guess. Anyway, I had the scallops, sweet potatoes, and green blueberry dessert. The portions were very generous and the flavors was uniquely appetizing. The service was also very good. I could see that the rest of the diners were enjoying themselves as much as I was."

  • "The menu was too strange. We got up and left. Every dish was a very strange combination."

  • "The visual challenges one sense, while the taste experience rewards you with unbelievably "bold" yet "delicate" flavors. Abstract art, that we totally "got" !"

  • "The food is always great and the menu changes regularly which is nice. Not your everyday food. Chef combines really interesting flavors to make solid tasting dishes."

  • "The cuisine in this restaurant is eclectic and very unique. Very much on the healthy side. If you are looking for a different dining experience drawn from various sources, this is the spot to visit.Your palette wont be disappointed."

  • "The tasting menu was horrendous. Having eaten at the finest molecular gastronomy restaurant in Spain, I would hate for any diner to think he had sampled this style of cooking at Red Medicine. The idea is to savor and marvel over each flavor the chef has created. But cramming about 8 different flavors or foods into a fishbowl and covering them with a tart foam or powder is not pleasing to the palate. I am disappointed by the LA food critic who steered me here on this visit. One high note: the lamb shoulder was the most tender I have ever eaten."

  • "What we have here is an experience. I would compare it to an opera or great play. A spectacle to be enjoyed once a year at most but a spectacle that is non the less amazing. I had a hard time determining what was being done on purpose at this restaurant or were actual flaws but I will say service was robotic and soulless. There was a great lack of lighting, and a everyone seemed to talk as loud as they could. But what really shines is the food: artistic, transporting, adventurous and unique. Like any good piece of art, you undergo a roller coaster of emotions, cognitive intrigue and experience which will leave you thinking. And for this I return to my original statement, a spectacle or play to be happily enjoyed once a year."

  • "Be ready to see food in a new light. Chef Kahn pushes the boundaries of technique, presentation, and flavor with components such as buttermilk ash oil, freeze dried soy salt, and pistachio marzipan puree. The cocktails are fun and mixed expertly. Red Medicine is a definite must try if you're in the Hollywood area."

  • "We came in for the tasting menu and it was superb and intriguing. The array of flavors and textures in each dish were both surprising & delightful. The presentations were a joy to behold and piqued the curiosity. I enjoy cooking, so when I go out I am looking for something I don't prepare at home. The standouts, in our opinion, were the Dungeness crab concoction and the dessert based on redwood granita. As a kid in the 70s I used to read Euell Gibbons books and forage for miner's lettuce back home. I truly enjoyed being exposed to new flavors. The painting on the wall by the bar seemed to be an apt illustration of the pleasing contrasts and combinations of the tastes & textures of the dishes. Recommended for the adventurous and open diner."

  • "This has got to be on of the top restaurants in LA for those looking for really creative food and drink. Go with friends because you'll want to share many of the small format dishes along with at least one of the large format dishes. This is a restaurant that really has its act together."

  • "everytime we try impressing a friend we bring them here. We tell the the story of how on a trip last year to Philly, we met young chef training under Georges Perrier at Le Bec Fin chef who asked us if we had been to Red Medicine when hearing we were from LA. On another trip to Chicago, chef at Alinea asked us if we had been to Red Medicine in LA. When we said no to both, we thought to ourselves, how the hell did two chefs from two highly ranked restaurants know about this place when we did not. Since then we come every couple of months with out of town friends."
