Diner Reviews
  • "This is one of those places where they bring you a dish that looks like nothing you've ever seen before, but I mean that in a good way. Each dish features color and textures that you've never seen before on your plate. It added a special something to the dinner!"

  • "Heard about the restaurant while watching Andrew Zimmern on Bizarre Foods. The outside the box thinking that chef Jordan Khan created within his meals is what made the food and the experience so wonderful. The attention to detail in plating along with having amazing taste in each plate is what I enjoyed. This was my first time here however it will not be my last. Take the time and enjoy the experience, you will love it."

  • "We went here for my boyfriend's birthday. We had the tasting menu. The food and drinks were amazing. However our waitress was horrible. She did not describe anything and barely mumbled the names of the drinks and food as she dropped them off. Everyone else at the restaurant was really nice and very hospitable, except our one waitress. :("

  • "One of the most amazing culinary ventures I've ever expierenced. I enjoyed every single bite & sip. Not only is the food delicious, but the presentation is pure artwork. You can almost feel guilty munching up something that looks so abstract & beautiful. Thank you Red Medicine for existing & much thanks to Chef Jordan Kahn. Will definitely come back soon."

  • "Gets high marks for most innovative and interesting food I've had in a long time in a restaurant."

  • "I love this place - and love that it is easy to get a table at…the food is beautiful and tastes amazing, every time. Cannot say enough great things about it."

  • "Brilliant combinations of unheard of ingredients and new tastes. Fabulous textures and sensible ammount of fun, food shouldn't be too serious! Every dish featured things I was totally unfamiliar with but at the same time, cleverly included things that were recognisable and comforting or just plain yummy! We all love jelly, custards, potatoes porridge and cream. These clever combinations kept my feet on the ground while my tastes buds were in overdrive. This is what sets it apart from some very high end restaurants where the food is so unusual that you can't take it all in during one visit. Thought we'd come home hungry and skint, instead we came home full, inspired, very impressed and not too shocked at the bill!"

  • "For my money, this is the best food in L.A. I'm a consultant who travels a lot and eat out in L.A. at least 10 times/month. This is a near perfect place, though spendy. The "tasting menu" is highly recommended. It's far & away the mostly intriguing presentation I've seen anywhere, with plants you wouldn't even think of as edible added not just to be weird but to give the dish a distinctive flavor. While each dish doesn't seem very large, everyone in our group was uncomfortably full by the time we finished the last of the six courses. The description on the menu is intentionally vague (even more so for the drinks) and an "allergy history" is taken to make sure the kitchen can safely deliver their surprise. Desert is to die for. Go!"

  • "The service was great and the food a culinary delight! The staff provided wonderful explanations of all ingredients used to prepare each and every course. The flavors were simply out of this world and truly a fabulous dining "experience". It was as if you were literally eating art!"

  • "A bit pretentious. Dishes are complex and most dishes were heavy. Not well balanced."

  • "the chefs at red medicine have created dishes with familiar tastes, but have done so in an elegant and creative way to make it a unique dining experience. and the presentation of the dishes, something i tend to not care about, were so spectacular, that even for me it enhanced the dining experience."

  • "Amazing dining experience every time. Brought our friends from London here and they were totally impressed. Absolutely memorable experience. Amazing chicken dumpling, pork cheeks, crab dish, pheasant, cod, tuna and redwood ice, of course."

  • "The first amazing culinary experience I've enjoyed in LA !"

  • "Loved the amazing tasting menu here, at a restaurant that other chefs famously love to visit. All of the dishes were served in glass bowls that reminded me of terrariums. Each dish consisted of layers of ingredients, some cooked, some fresh, many of them Asian, many of them completely unknown & unrecognizable to me. You plunge a spoon (or fork) into your food terrarium and begin taking bites. The result is a meal full of surprising, earthy tastes - as satisfying as it is mysterious. A creative, outrageous, comforting and whimsical eating experience. Don't miss it."

  • "Chose the dinner for two package, 6 courses with one add off menu. Excellent presentation and combination of unique flavor combinations. Trout Roe and the Lamb Shoulder were our favorites. Menu is adjusted frequently so be prepared to be surprised . Otherwise the ala cart items are interesting as well. We chose the turnips which were prepared in cream."

  • "Magical food and presentation. We didn't know what we were eating some of the time but we savored it all. The food was like nothing we've had before and it's difficult to describe. Because menu descriptions are spare, we didn't inform our waiter that there was a severe gluten sensitivity at the table. When he brought the 2nd dish, we asked about gluten and he graciously took the dish back and said he would have the chef remake it. Excellent service."

  • "The menu changes frequently which means some favorites are lost (THE PORRIDGE) but the new additions are always exceptional. I have never had a bad meal or time here. And the cocktails are almost as inventive and as good as the food."

  • "I had read reviews lauding its food presentation and ambience. While these things were certainly a plus, the taste of the food was relatively underwhelming."

  • "It's difficult to comprehend why a chef/ restaurant with such an extraordinary quality of food ( seriously extraordinary like we have NEVER experienced before) would allow such a melancholy, unattentive, disengage waitstaff. It's unfortunate because the attention to detail in the kitchen is so opposite from the lack of warmth and professionalism in the dining room. Go for the food, but expect nothing from the front of the house & you won't be disappointed."

  • "Kahn's creativity is mind-boggling. Prices are very reasonable for what you get. Portions are good; we didn't leave hungry. I am deducting stars for the extremely loud surroundings. At the peak, it registers 90-93 decibels. By the third course of the tasting menu, my energy was sapped from the noise. You have to raise your voice to talk and work hard to listen. Not good for a romantic date night. Service was excellent. Every dish was explained, servers are very professional. No chit-chatting or loitering at the table. We arrived early for our RSVP, but they easily sat us.. Parking is a nightmare. I suggest asking about locations when they call to confirm your RSVP.."

  • "It was a great food adventure with flavors I've never had together before put in delicious combinations. The plating was artwork. Keep in mind they do not have parking or valet so arrive in time to find a street spot."

  • "they were out of the main dish so the server told us to order the other meat dish and then they were out of it as well. To many rules for a restaurant, you have to order everything at once with minimal selections for food wine and liquor. 1 vodka that was ok at best. never go back"

  • "We had the chef's 6 course tasting menu and were flat blown away. The Trout Roe is one of the best things I've ever put in my mouth. Every course was an adventure in taste, presentation, precision, and creativity. The food was well complimented by the beverage pairing offered with the tasting menu. The atmosphere is casual and energetic with top notch service. The real bonus is the affordability - absolutely on my short list when I return to LA."

  • "Poor chef JK should have stuck to his pastry-chefing but even his dessert was a massive misfire on Friday night: a glazed carrot creation that resembled a road-kill grasshopper! Of the 6 courses served as a special prix fixe menu, 3-4 were just plainly inedible (trout roe salad in a deep bowl; some yoghurt-like spread; two tiny sea urchins on top of what appeared to be a dead porcupine, literally). The pork was indeed tasty and the dungeness crab was the best meal of the night, which we almost did not get before we had to ask for it. Foodie or not, do not come here and expect to eat good food or go home satisfied, instead come here for the cocktails: #88 and #90 were in fact delicious and exciting (color-changing) mixology-style drinks."

  • "We made a reservation but had to wait for 30 minutes. We did the tasting menu, we were waiting for the dessert for 45 minutes! The restaurant was over booked. The waitress was not warm. I don't care to go back despite a pretty good interesting food. There are plenty of restaurants in LA to try."

  • "We went to Red Medicine for their valentines day tasting menu. The food was amazing, not only in flavor, but also in presentation. If you like heavy food with a lot of cream, this is the place for you. The service was great even though we were there near the end of a super busy night. The only issue I had was that there was way too much food and the meal took 3 hours. By the time 2 hours hit, we were full and antsy to leave."

  • "Chef Jordan Kahn has moved the concept of Red Medicine to local foraging of ingredients, and I was keen to sample his wares. I arrived 25 minutes early, and was welcomed (and helped with parking ... thank you!). The menu is fascinating, and I chose the six course tasting menu with paired beverages. This is where the review becomes difficult. Service was impeccable all night. The space is warm and comfortable. The beverages were delicious. But the food was problematic. The ingredients are amazingly fresh and tasty. The presentations are artful and interesting. But ... the combined flavors just don't work well. With each course, I found myself moving from excitement to thinking, "Huh?" I left feeling unfulfilled and disappointed."

  • "I've been here twice and it just gets better. The food is some of the most creative and beautiful I have experienced. It's adventurous cuisine so don't expect your average fare. Your taste buds are challenged and I was consistently surprised with each dish."

  • "Dining at Red Medicine was the most exciting dining experience I've had in years. And I do mean an experience. Chef Jordan Kahn creates flavors combinations, that no one would ever think of and they meld together so beautifully. Each dish offers a combination of textures, temperatures, sweet and savory, and anything else you can think of. The plating of each dish is truly artwork. So beautiful that we needed to photograph every dish so we could remember it. Many of the herbs and vegetables used, the chef locally forages for himself, and you can taste the freshness in each bite. It was suggested that we order the pheasant dish, which I did not think I would like, but their preparation and quality of product was superb. Can't wait to go back!"

  • "We did the tasting menu. The food was consistently inventive and made with very high-quality ingredients, but some of the dishes were a bit too extreme in their flavor profile for me to actually consider them enjoyable. For any adventurous foodies, I would recommend giving this a try; if you're tastes are conservative, it will be too much for you. They also make very interesting and mostly successful cocktails here, too. I do appreciate a restaurant that ventures a lot with the creative dishes they make, even if not every one is a winner."

  • "Red Medicine was excellent - creative, original, memorable and tasty. I hate when a restaurant tries too hard to be unusual, and I feared that might be the case here, but it was not. The brisket we had was melt in your mouth delicious. The mushroom dish was an excellent balance between earthy and creamy. The coconut dessert had crazy ingredients but worked - it was not only interesting, it was dream-about-later yummy. And the cocktails - I had one with hibiscus - were outstanding (and not too sweet, as specialty cocktails can be)."

  • "No much to say, Red Medicine is one of top five best restaurant in Los Angeles"

  • "The food is beautifully prepared but I didn't get the concept or the execution. In each dish we had it was okay but there were too many ingredients and something that ruined a cohesive dish. Maybe that was the goal and if so they executed perfectly but created a concept that will not have me return. The brisket was phenomenal and the lettuce wrap concept was fun but for $80 it lacked value. I dined for my birthday and apparently while I was in the bathroom my friend talked to the server about bringing out a dessert with a candle in it and she assured her that she would. After receiving the check and continuing to wait it became clear the waitress had forgotten. With a quarter full restaurant this was a pretty off-putting end."

  • "The crab dish along with the mushroom mixture were outstanding! The red ice dessert was fabulous! We eat out a lot, but the flavors the kitchen was able to mix were very interesting & pleasing to the palate. Great food & place. Very underrated!"

  • "Very small place. Service excellent however extremely pricey and the portions very small. The size of the portion is like an appetizer not an entree size. The waitress said large enough to share; very wrong. A bottle of wine average $60. The place got crowded around 7:30 and the noise level increased that it is hard to hear the person at your table. I do not recommend and will not go back"

  • "The food was delicious and the drinks were tasty. We had about 5 dishes for sharing and they were all amazing. The presentation of the food was beautiful. Our server, however, had a horrible attitude. The dishes are complex with many flavors and textures. Our questions about our food were met with impatience and near eye rolls - to the point we just stopped asking. In fact, we were hesitant to ask our server for anything. I will be back - but if sat in that server's section will ask to move."
