  • "The menu selections were limited. The small plate and entrée were about the same regarding portions but the entrée cost more. I took my boyfriend there to celebrate his birthday and was embarrassed throughout the entire evening. The tables were very low, making eating awkward and the food was overcooked and overpriced. Our waitress was great but he could only do but so much. There was nothing special about my event at Red Maple. Overall experience, I wasn’t impressed and would never return."

I will visit again and hope you give the place a try if you like new things and not your run of the mill sit down dinner experience.   • "Went here for dinner around 6:30 on a Friday-- it was basically empty. By contrast, walking by on a Sunday evening, the place was packed. The grilled apricot salad was absolutely amazing. Not impressed by the cheese plate. Cocktails were well balanced and offered a variety of unique flavors."

  • "Highly recommend by my Son and excited to try Red Maple. Attractive place, good bar service but once seated our experience soured. While the waiter was polite, he was spread thin and spent the evening in the weeds. Food was OK but when we were finished and ready to move on to the next venue, it took forever to get a check and then I had to track our server down 3 times in order to get him to take payment, run my card and still had to search him out to sign and get my card back the whole time our limo waited patiently, running up $$. 45 minutes later we finally get out but missed our show! Wasted tickets & more $s but more importantly "Harshed my Mellow"!! Bartender was great the one positive, should have ordered dinner from the bar."

  • "Overall, the resturant is a good hot spot for those in their late 20s to early 50s. The staff were friendly and accomodating. The food was the best i've had in Baltimore honestly. My ownly gripe is that the place has a weird smell. It's like the carpet needs to be taken up and replaced. It's also a little difficult to hear if you're having conversations with people sitting across from you at the table. I'd definitely recommend the place. I'll be back for sure."

  • "Food - We ordered the chef's menu for 6 people to feed 3 guys and 1 girl. It was enough food and it was fairly good, but most of it was fried. Maybe if we had just picked the tapas we would have liked our food more, otherwise only the steak and lamb burgers were good. Ambiance/noise -The overall restaurant was nice, however, the benches in the back were hard to sit on and a little unstable. The noise though was extremely loud for a 7:30 dinner. I know this place turns into a night club after, but beforehand the music does not need to be blaring. I couldnt really carry on a conversation because the music was so loud. Service - our waitress was good, pretty attentive. Overall - I could go back, but definitly not for a full dinner."

  • "We first thought the restaurant was hard to find; there is no outdoor signage. We arrived and were only the second couple there at nearly 7pm. The ambiance is awkward- low lighting, empty, no tables and chairs. Seating is lounge-style with low tables, which makes eating difficult. Our first few plates were great: lamb burger, mushroom and leek ball, and steak. The plates we ordered after were a major disappointment. By the time we left, we were the only diners in the restaurant- and this is at nearly 8pm. The service was OK, our waitress brought our food and drinks but did not go above and beyond for anything. Despite being one of only two tables filled, they reported us as a "no show" to open table, which is worth mentioning."

  • "The food was very good and our server was great. He was very informative, made great suggestions, and was on top of things. As far as tapas goes, the plates are small, but the prices are good too so it averages out. The taste is great! I recommend going on a weeknight if you want a more quiet and romantic style meal as there are fewer people and less noise."

  • "On the Bmore food spectrum, RM is definitely on the upper half, especially considering it's rep. as a dance/lounge bar. For tapas, the portions are large and filling so lots of bang for your buck. We appreciated service that was friendly and attentive to my friend's dietary needs. House bottle of red was an easy-drinking, bright red fruity Spanish Barolo. Again, a lot of bang for your buck. Flare bartending was an added benefit since we got there before the late night scene picked up. Once it did, we had a blast! Ladies night plus dancing and great people all around! Design/layout was stylish and impressive. Looking forward to the courtyard-esque area in warmer weather! Will repeat and do recommend.[Note: potential bias b/c groupon]"

  • "I went on a Friday at 6 p.m. during Baltimore's Restaurant Week 2014. The place was fairly empty and quite, a good setting for conversations. I really enjoyed the food. Sadly, because the place doesn't have traditional tables and chairs and it's very dark, I wouldn't go back. You dine off of a table that is as low as your knees while sitting on benches and stools, making it very uncomfortable to eat the food because you're constantly hunched over your meal plate. It's very dark; I had to read my menu with the help of the little mood light on the table, and I have pretty good vision - I don't wear glasses."

  • "The dinner and night atmosphere are completely different but were equally enjoyable. It started as just 3 of us for dinner and our table was ready as soon as we walked in. It was a little too dark, but was intimate without being too romantic due to the bench/non-wall seating arrangement. We ordered 3 tapas and they were decently priced and just the right amount of food for 3 girls. The dirty martinis was good EXCEPT the olives tasted like cardboard. The cheese tray is a must with exotic cheeses and homemade jam. We moved onto bottle service and staff accommodated. Once 11 hits the place becomes a night club, but not an obnoxious one, a more up-scale diverse dance scene. Very enjoyable."

  • "We had a reservation for 6 people for 8 pm. When I was seated I was told that we only had the table until 11 pm. However, several times througout the night, our waitress kept trying get us to leave early even though we were still ordering drinks and/or food. She kept asking if we were staying and kept trying to bring us our bill (even when we hadn't asked for it). Around 10 a hostess came over and said we could get a larger table by the fireplace at 11 if we wanted to buy a one bottle minimum for $125. Later we figured out that this might be a bottle of hard liquor and note wine but nothing was really explained. We felt rushed so we decided to take our money elsewhere and went to another club when we were done."

  • "The lower "dining room" looks like a hotel lobby - a really nice hotel lobby, but a little weird for a restaurant. Seating is on large ottomans in front of low tables - not comfortable for the three members of my party of 4 who are over 50. It was empty when we arrived for a pre-theater meal at 6:00 pm, which lead me to believe the "main"dining room was upstairs. A quick glance up the steps disabused me of that notion (more low tables and couches) so we stayed put. The service was very friendly and efficient, though there was a lag between the food drops - and not because it's shared plates. Two dishes were served when ready and several minutes later the other two dishes arrived. Good food, great concept, mediocre execution."

  • "My friend and I go here before the theater when we want to treat ourselves. The food and drinks are great - priced right for the exceptional, unique small plates. As with most small plate servings, you won't fill up but the taste is worth it and we get enough that we're not hungry later in the evening. This is a great, quiet place with wonderful ambiance and great service (at least early in the evening.) I've not been after 9 pm so it may be a different scene then. Ask your waiter for recommendations on "one must have" plate - you won't be disappointed."

  • "My husband & I enjoy tapas style and were excited to try out Red Maple prior to a show at Meyerhoff. Entering (Thursday night, 6:30) we found a quiet atmosphere, modern design & decor and friendly, helpful staff. We were seated by a fireplace on their oversized ottomans. Their "by the glass" wine selection contains only 4 reds but no standard Cabernet. A nice menu selection for food; ordered pumpkin risotto (tasty), calamari with seasoning that left an aftertaste like we just ate someones leather shoe (not the texture, the taste), the orange chicken was so dried out and tough we avoided the last piece even though we were still hungry. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this place to a friend based on the quality of the food."

  • "I found out about this place through Living Social. It worked well with our plans for dinner before a play in midtown. The seating is around low tables – small ones in a long row, so a little atypical in layout but in a good way. The cheese app was especially good, as were all of our dishes. The music was…different, from smooth jazz to world sounds, and a bit loud. The only issue was when we decided to order one last plate to share it took a long while to get it. The staff was very nice and prices reasonable."

Unfortunately, the lighting was so dark that it was difficult to distinguish one dish from another unless it was directly under the table light. This only added to the funky atmosphere that the dance floor/ light show in the rear of the restaurant created. Regardless, the food warrants a visit."

Food was well presented and tasty, and the cocktails were spot on.   • "We had a great meal. It was around 7 or so on a weekday night, and the restaurant was almost empty. Besides my husband and I, there were 2 or three other tables. As we left, at 8:30, we could see the club crowd for later in the evening starting to gather. Food was excellent, especially the corn fritters and a luscious buttermilk panna cotta. This place has a chic, modern decor. The lighting is low, and got lower as the evening went on, so much so that we could only see our menus if we held them up to the table lamps. The tables are very, very low and that can make for some messy eating moments. I liked it, but I did wish the lighting was just a little brighter!! Pretty pink table lamps were very striking against the dark woods of the decor."

  • "I had been to Red Maple once before, and I remembered that the food was excellent. When we ordered, I wasn't sure how I would feel about some of the choices, but wow -- the food is just phenomenal. We had a reservation for 6:00 p.m. on a Wednesday -- absolutely unnecessary as we were exactly the only customers there. Our waiter was perfectly timely -- attentive, but not overly so. I love the setting too -- low sofas and chairs with low tables -- very intimate, perfect for couples or groups. Can't wait to go back!"
