A word from Red Knot
Red Knot restaurant is a Gastro Pub serving the general public 7 days a week. It is part of the new Clubhouse at Galloping Hill Golf Course, which is conveniently located off exit 138 on the Garden State Parkway. It's the prefect place to meet up with friends, family and business associates.
The restaurant offers outdoor dining with fantastic views of the golf course. The kitchen is headed by longtime Union County resident (and NJ native) Ralph Romano, Executive Chef.

The restaurant also features an Express Lunch Menu, Happy Hour specials Monday through Friday, and a late night Bar Menu.

  • "I will definitely be dining again, although the night we went was a very slow holiday night everything was terrific, we didn't get to eat out side due to a windy night but the views of the golf course we're beautiful. The service was very good, but as I said on a very slow night, interested to see on a busy night if it would be just as good."

  • "We had dinner at sunset on the patio and enjoyed the lovely expansive view of the golf course. The lime scallops appetizer was fabulous, as was the skirt steak and the s'mores sundae. Top notch food. Servers were inexperienced, but having read the reviews prior to dining, we were prepared for that. My friend's burger looked fabulous but was overcooked. We were given the choice of eating in or out, and although it was pleasant outside, we had to deal with lots of smoking, which was unexpected and annoying. If we were told the patio was a smoking section, we would have gladly eaten inside. We will be back and will eat inside."

  • "this is a neighborhood restaurant for us, have been there twice for dinner now and once for lunch. the view is wonderful over the golf course, sunset a bonus. have eaten outdoors all three times so can't account for indoor dining ambience. the food and drink are always delicious. the service has been superb all three times. never rushed, so allows lots of social time with friends!!"

  • "First timer at Red Knot. Reserved a time for the special Father's Day brunch that was advertised through OpenTable as well as advertised on Red Knot's website and emails. I chose Red Knot mainly because the Galloping Hill golf course is my husband's favorite place to be and the forecast hinted at a beautiful day. For Father's Day they offered a "Cookout" on the porch. Unfortunately, I had to ask several of the staff for just a piece of lettuce and tomato to top my burger, which eventually came to me personally at our table (but what about the other diners that may have wanted some at the main buffet table?). The food and dining experience was below my expectations, but it was the ambience that made up for it."

Beautiful setting for a wedding and they seem to have a lot! Good to see. We love this place and want it to stay around a very long time!"

  • "Husband had great salad and enjoyed his meal. I had the french onion soup and it was very good. I also had the fish & chips which was a Friday special. The fish was good but wish the crust was crispy. It folded when i tried to cut. Will come back to try another item."

  • "The public dining venue at the newly renovated Galloping Hill Golf Course was overall a pleasant surprise. The food was good and nicely presented. Service was slow but staff seemed well meaning if somewhat new to the game. Inside dining room seemed Spartan but the view from the terrace overlooking the course was very pleasant. Worth a second trip."

  • "I brought my girlfriend here for her birthday lunch. The atmosphere was fun watching all the golfers swing by on the carts and buzz around outside. The food was outstanding as usual. I wanted it to be a little bit special for the occasion and the Red Knot fit the bill perfectly. It never disappoints!"

  • "Went to Red Knot for Easter Brunch and it was horrible! We had a reservation but did not get seated for 25min. The brunch options were limited and what was available was COLD. We ordered omelets from the made to order station figuring they would at least be hot... they were hot but the toppings were not - cheese wasn't melted, onions raw, etc.. The service was no better. The waitress couldn't remember any of our drink orders. She broke a glass on our table and left it there until we called her back over to clean it up. We complained to the manager about both the service and cold food and nothing was done about either. Our party of 6 stayed for just about an hour and left...and ate elsewhere. Such a disappointment, will never return. "

  • "Service was TERRIBLE. Took over an hour to get our food. Never received my french onion soup and one of our orders of pizza was cold. One person in our party ordered the braised short ribs, was told 20 minutes later that they ran out. Was given a half order along with some skirt steak to fill the order. Waitress was inattentive and the manager only stopped by once showing minimal concern. The only person that seemed concerned and tried to help was the bartender, I believe her name was Erin, not sure. The restaurant did make it good in the end by not charging for dessert and only charged for one round of drinks. We will return again, hopefully with better service."

  • "Average food, slow service but a nice atmosphere. Service was terribly slow. Everyone looked busy running back and forth but no one was actually doing anything productive. We waited for a table even though we had a reservation and tables were open. It holds maybe 40 guests and they must have overbooked because we watched the staff bring in a patio table to accommodate another foursome. The food was average. I can make a better burger at home for a fraction of the price. Our waitress must not have been in attendance the day they taught the staff how to pour a beer. Everyone's beer was instantly flat from her mile high pour. We will not be back; we will not recommend the restaurant. Save yourself the trip and go elsewhere."

  • "My fiancé and I heard a lot of good things about Red Knot so we decided to stop in for dinner. The manager recommended Darkhorse for the wine selection which was a very nice bottle so we were anticipating great food to match. We started with the artichoke dip which was basically a large bowl of warmed ricotta cheese. This was not what we were expecting. We also had the seared tuna which was just okay. The entrees were equally mediocre. My fiancé had the seafood pasta which came with several salty muscles (meaning not cleaned well) and some that did not or barely opened (you really are not suppose to eat them if they don't open). All in all not the experience we were looking for but maybe we just didn't order the right items."

Perhaps slow off-season makes the kitchen a bit slow and allows them to think they can get away with switching up listed ingredients and/or omitting some. Atmosphere very nice so we will try it again sometime."

  • "Keep going back and the food is always great. Took my 90 year old mother in law on Saturday. I knew there was an irish menu planned for St Patrick's Day but didn't expect the live music. It was so loud she could not communicate with us which was the point of going out to dinner. She loved her food. Salmon, shepard's pie, fish and chips were all good."

  • "We ate at Red Knot to take advantage of their valentines day pre fixe. The ambience and staff were great. The food conceptually was good but the execution was somewhat lacking. My duck prosciutto was chewy and extrmely salty which did not balance the other flavors of the salad appetizer. For dinner I had rack if kamb which was cooked very well and seasoned nicely. The accompaniments were a bit to be desired though as the flavors that were mixed ranged from grapes to curry and I wasnt sure what they were going for with the dish. My fiance had the lobster ravioli app. For dinner she had the filet.with lobster tempura lolipops. Again, interesting idea poorly executed. The lobster would have been better of steamed or broiled."

  • "We golf at this course but have never eaten in the restaurant. Not many tables and spaced apart nicely. Staff was outstanding and interesting food choices. My husband chose the pre-fix menu and I ordered off the main menu. My salad was amazing, skirt steak quite tasty and chef was open to substitutions. My husband also enjoyed his dinner. Would be a great place for cocktails as well. Deck faces the golf course."

  • "The Food was good but it is definitely not a winter spot. We wanted to try the restaurant and I will definitely frequent it during golf season. Not really a restaurant to visit outside of the spring to fall season. The lobby of the new clubhouse is more a corporate setting then a clubhouse house setting. It seems that the restaurant is more set up for golf crowd then a dinner crowd. It is not that this is a bad restaurant it just seems it is more seasonal. Our waiter was good but he was the only one on that evening. He could have used a little help but all in all he did a good job. We will be back in the spring."

  • "Had dinner here recently. Beautiful place on the golf course. I suppose its in the new clubhouse and its a very impressive looking place. Walked into an empty lobby with no-one to greet us, no idea where to go. Figured it out and seated in dining room. Very, very nice decorating, windows, earth-tones. Service was pretty good, although perhaps not up to the standard this place deserves. Food was good; creative, fresh, nicely presented. The negative is that while its a great looking dining room, it appears they can't make up their minds if its a fine dining room or a sports bar. Big TV's all over the place, just out of place here. In the bar, fine, but in the dining room it takes away greatly from what should be a good experience."

  • "Entrance sign is not lit up at night and restaurant lettering is too small. Road leading up to building wasn't snowplowed. Parking lot is far from entrance with no valet. Elegant atmosphere, but we sat by fireplace which wasn't working. No specials on menu. Dinner menu: quite small - not a lot to choose from. Butter: excessively salty. Crab cake: bland and with jerk sauce that did not go with dish. The coleslaw, however, was good. Empanadas: far too doughy. Braised short ribs tasted more like pot roast or stew meat. Not very good. Skirt steak, good, but extremely small portion. The expresso came in a thimble size cup with about a sip or two in it. Wait staff friendly, but experience was not up to par. Needless to say, we would not go back."

  • "Have been to Red Knot before and was very pleased. Requested table near fireplace when making reservation and we were seated at the table directly in front of the fireplace but it was not on. Hostess said it was likely cycling because of too much heat ??? After a while, nothing changed so we again asked. It took 4 requests before someone came and turned it on. Dinner was very good but when we requested cappuccinos, waiter informed us that they could not make them because they had no milk or cream...so no after dinner coffee either. No milk when an A&P is 2 minutes down the road? Snow storm was two days earlier so that was not the problem. Very poor planning and a disappointing end to an otherwise nice dinner."
