A word from Red Knot
Red Knot restaurant is a Gastro Pub serving the general public 7 days a week. It is part of the new Clubhouse at Galloping Hill Golf Course, which is conveniently located off exit 138 on the Garden State Parkway. It's the prefect place to meet up with friends, family and business associates.
The restaurant offers outdoor dining with fantastic views of the golf course. The kitchen is headed by longtime Union County resident (and NJ native) Ralph Romano, Executive Chef.

The restaurant also features an Express Menu during Lunch Service, Blue Plate Specials, a late night Bar Menu and an a la carte Brunch menu on Sundays.

  • "Average food, slow service but a nice atmosphere. Service was terribly slow. Everyone looked busy running back and forth but no one was actually doing anything productive. We waited for a table even though we had a reservation and tables were open. It holds maybe 40 guests and they must have overbooked because we watched the staff bring in a patio table to accommodate another foursome. The food was average. I can make a better burger at home for a fraction of the price. Our waitress must not have been in attendance the day they taught the staff how to pour a beer. Everyone's beer was instantly flat from her mile high pour. We will not be back; we will not recommend the restaurant. Save yourself the trip and go elsewhere."

  • "My fiancé and I heard a lot of good things about Red Knot so we decided to stop in for dinner. The manager recommended Darkhorse for the wine selection which was a very nice bottle so we were anticipating great food to match. We started with the artichoke dip which was basically a large bowl of warmed ricotta cheese. This was not what we were expecting. We also had the seared tuna which was just okay. The entrees were equally mediocre. My fiancé had the seafood pasta which came with several salty muscles (meaning not cleaned well) and some that did not or barely opened (you really are not suppose to eat them if they don't open). All in all not the experience we were looking for but maybe we just didn't order the right items."

  • "With amenities that are fitting for a private country club, Red Knot has a nice niche in a public golf facility. The dining room was like a country club, the service was impeccable and the food was very good. I look forward to eating there again in the near future."

  • "Ate here on a blustery March Sunday-few golfers out and about. Only 3-4 tables with customers. Perhaps slow off-season makes the kitchen a bit slow and allows them to think they can get away with switching up listed ingredients and/or omitting some. Atmosphere very nice so we will try it again sometime."

  • "Keep going back and the food is always great. Took my 90 year old mother in law on Saturday. I knew there was an irish menu planned for St Patrick's Day but didn't expect the live music. It was so loud she could not communicate with us which was the point of going out to dinner. She loved her food. Salmon, shepard's pie, fish and chips were all good."

  • "We ate at Red Knot to take advantage of their valentines day pre fixe. The ambience and staff were great. The food conceptually was good but the execution was somewhat lacking. My duck prosciutto was chewy and extrmely salty which did not balance the other flavors of the salad appetizer. For dinner I had rack if kamb which was cooked very well and seasoned nicely. The accompaniments were a bit to be desired though as the flavors that were mixed ranged from grapes to curry and I wasnt sure what they were going for with the dish. My fiance had the lobster ravioli app. For dinner she had the filet.with lobster tempura lolipops. Again, interesting idea poorly executed. The lobster would have been better of steamed or broiled."

  • "We golf at this course but have never eaten in the restaurant. Not many tables and spaced apart nicely. Staff was outstanding and interesting food choices. My husband chose the pre-fix menu and I ordered off the main menu. My salad was amazing, skirt steak quite tasty and chef was open to substitutions. My husband also enjoyed his dinner. Would be a great place for cocktails as well. Deck faces the golf course."

  • "The Food was good but it is definitely not a winter spot. We wanted to try the restaurant and I will definitely frequent it during golf season. Not really a restaurant to visit outside of the spring to fall season. The lobby of the new clubhouse is more a corporate setting then a clubhouse house setting. It seems that the restaurant is more set up for golf crowd then a dinner crowd. It is not that this is a bad restaurant it just seems it is more seasonal. Our waiter was good but he was the only one on that evening. He could have used a little help but all in all he did a good job. We will be back in the spring."

  • "Had dinner here recently. Beautiful place on the golf course. I suppose its in the new clubhouse and its a very impressive looking place. Walked into an empty lobby with no-one to greet us, no idea where to go. Figured it out and seated in dining room. Very, very nice decorating, windows, earth-tones. Service was pretty good, although perhaps not up to the standard this place deserves. Food was good; creative, fresh, nicely presented. The negative is that while its a great looking dining room, it appears they can't make up their minds if its a fine dining room or a sports bar. Big TV's all over the place, just out of place here. In the bar, fine, but in the dining room it takes away greatly from what should be a good experience."

  • "Entrance sign is not lit up at night and restaurant lettering is too small. Road leading up to building wasn't snowplowed. Parking lot is far from entrance with no valet. Elegant atmosphere, but we sat by fireplace which wasn't working. No specials on menu. Dinner menu: quite small - not a lot to choose from. Butter: excessively salty. Crab cake: bland and with jerk sauce that did not go with dish. The coleslaw, however, was good. Empanadas: far too doughy. Braised short ribs tasted more like pot roast or stew meat. Not very good. Skirt steak, good, but extremely small portion. The expresso came in a thimble size cup with about a sip or two in it. Wait staff friendly, but experience was not up to par. Needless to say, we would not go back."

  • "Have been to Red Knot before and was very pleased. Requested table near fireplace when making reservation and we were seated at the table directly in front of the fireplace but it was not on. Hostess said it was likely cycling because of too much heat ??? After a while, nothing changed so we again asked. It took 4 requests before someone came and turned it on. Dinner was very good but when we requested cappuccinos, waiter informed us that they could not make them because they had no milk or cream...so no after dinner coffee either. No milk when an A&P is 2 minutes down the road? Snow storm was two days earlier so that was not the problem. Very poor planning and a disappointing end to an otherwise nice dinner."

  • "MY WIFE AND I WENT ON WEDS NIGHT 12-4. I HAD RECEIVED AN EMAIL RAVING ABOUT THE NEW PIZZA OVEN. HERE WERE MY COMPLAINTS. 1) WAITRESS WAS COLD AND TOTALLY DISINTERESTED.2) THE FIRST THING SHE SAID WAS ( WE HAVE NO PIZZA, WE'RE OUT) 3) APPETIZER, ALTHOUGH GOOD, CAME OUT OF THE KITCHEN WITHIN 3 MINS, DIDN'T EVEN GET WINE YET. 4) THERE WERE EXACTLY 4 PEOPLE IN THE RESTAURANT, YET THE ENTREE ( TOTAL OPPOSITE OF THE APP) TOOK AT LEAST 40 MINS. WE HAVE BEEN TO RED KNOT ABOUT 5 TIMES. THIS WAS BY FAR OUR WORST EXPERIENCE. I DINE OUT 100 TIMES A YEAR, AND RARELY COMPLAIN . BUT BEING AS YOU ASKED ME TO REVIEW , I TRIED TO HONESTLY."

  • "They need a lot of work on the service. No one seemed to know what was going on. It took a good 15 minutes for our bottle of wine to be delivered. And then the waiter does not know how to pour a $50 bottle of wine. Some training would go a long way. Wine list was great. Menu was quite interesting. Sorry the bar is so small an you feel like you are sitting in the lobby of the building. Maybe darken the windows so you feel like you are in the restaurant more than the lobby. Top shelf all the way at the bar. Just wish they would work on the service aspect. Could be a great place if they can get it right."

  • "I love the Red Knot. The food is delicious. Everything is executed perfectly from burgers (DELICIOUS!) to higher end food. Last week, I didn't particularly care for one of my dishes. There was nothing wrong with it, it was actually made very well but there was a spice or flavor I didn't like in it. The Chef came out, and really wanted to replace it, but I was already full from the bread and appetizer. Also, it seemed like a good excuse to indulge in dessert! He insisted on taking it off the bill, which was not something I asked for or expected as the dish was good...there was just some spice in it that wasn't a favorite of mine. I think this really shows the level of customer service and pride the Chef has for his restaurant."

  • "Perhaps it was because we had the special Oktoberfest menu which was served without any bread or accompaniments which meant that from time of ordering to time we were done was less than half an hour. Not worth getting dressed for. The matr'd was very formal and the staff very casual. Not a fit. We might try again for lunch but the atmosphere including televisions on the wall don't suggest the need for a reservation. Not that kind of place in our opinion."

  • "You won't get a good recommendation here. We started with a cheese plate. It all looked the same, tasteless and no reference was made to what type of cheese(s). My entre' was in very lemony sauce; no mention of lemon on the menu. The lemon was so overpowering, you couldn't appreciate the food. My husband ordered a burger and fries; he left half. Last, but not least, you don't have Irish Coffee. I hope you make changes, otherwise we won't be back."

  • "Though we had reservations, and tables were available, we had to wait more than 15 minutes to be seated Saturday evening. The décor and lighting were tastefully done, with the exception of a few large screen TVs, and ample seating was available on the veranda that overlooks the golf course. The house music was a bit loud and seemed out of place for Saturday dinner. The menu, while varied for a sports bar, was very limited on the high end. I had the grilled shrimp with black linguini, and it was superb. My husband ordered the salmon and described the beet sauce as bitter. When crowded, Red Knot is not the place for a romantic dinner, but I would go again, for lunch or a cocktail on the veranda to enjoy the amazing view."

  • "We went with a group and had an enjoyable meal. Since we wanted time to talk, the slow service was not too bothersome. But management needs to get on board with some serious staff training. Good food like this deserves good service. We will go back, but after this staff gets some more experience under their belts."

  • "Pardon the pun. My wife and I took a chance after the review in the Star Ledger. The reviewer was right on. Food was excellent and the presentation was great. The only area that needs to be looked at by the oweners was the delay in the food coming out. It was a liitle slow and it was the middle of the week. The outside patio has a great view looking at the golf course."
