Diner Reviews
  • "Needing a respite from Creole this was a great choice. Pasta was fantastic. Could not quite figure out the name of Red Gravy until we found out the New Jersey roots.quiet enough to carry on a conversation."

  • "Red Gravy is the perfect restaurant if one has had enough of cajun cuisine and needs an evening of something different. Easy walking distance from the Quarter. The appetizers were excellent, the main courses were excellent, the service was excellent as well. The restaurant has a sign out front, but the ambiance of the inside isn't given away by the exterior. I would gladly eat here every night for a while. Wine list isn't as extensive as NOLA's, but it does the job nicely One thing, the restaurant has a "two check per table" maximum, so if you are with two other couples as we were, don't drink so much wine that simple math becomes an issue. Cheers!"

  • "My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed the mouth watering praline pancakes and the godfather dish. Both entrees were remarkable! The ambiance is quaint, warming & romantic and the service is phenomenal! It was some of the best breakfast we ate while in New Orleans. Much better than The Court of Two Sisters!"

  • "Red Gravy was outstanding. Right around the corner from our hotel. They can accommodate groups just make sure to have reservations. Quaint, romantic and cozy. I would go back in a heartbeat. The pasta was made fresh and perfectly prepared with exactly the right amount of sauce. We were greeted by the chef and proprietor. What a fantastic evening. Will recommend this gem to others who visit NOLA."

  • "We went to Red Gravy expecting a fine dining experience comensorate with the prices they charge. What we received was an unremarkable meal minus bread, which we saw being served at other tables, and Parmesan cheese served from a shaker. A real disappointment."

  • "Recommended by a local friend. Was unexpectedly outstanding! Don't miss this place, it's a must place to dine in New Orleans."

  • "My husband and I decided to try this resturant after reading good reviews. We had a good server, but the table right next to us had terrible service. How do we know? Well, we were sitting pretty much on top of them. The rest of the resturant was empty, but the hostess decided that was a good idea. They were being completely ignored, their order was messed up, and the server gave them an attitude. It was so bad, that we decided to wrap up our meal as soon as possible. Also, the food was okay but way overpriced for nothing special. The market salad was good, but not $15 good. The food was pretty good, but for the price, I expected more than mediocre. I would not recommend this to a family member or friend,"

  • "Had an OUTSTANDING lunch & returned the next week with friends for a GREAT dinner. Food is excellent, especially the house-made pasta! Salads are wonderful (would like to see more of the lunch faves for dinner too), entrees are mouthwatering , & be sure to save room for some unique desserts, especially the king cake bread pudding & the citrus-olive oil cake . Lots of unique touches such as the plates for the oil/garlic bread dip. Dinners are a bit pricey, but worth it. Relaxed, unhurried atmosphere is great for visiting over dinner. Servers are friendly & pace the courses well."

  • "I was in town for a conference and Googled restaurants in the vicinity of the conference hotel and came upon this gem. Being from NY, I had read that the owner of Red Gravy was a NJ transplant, so felt compelled to check it out. The food was great and the service was excellent! There were many vegetarian options available. My pasta with fried eggplant, cheese and marinara (red gravy) was delicious and the perfect size for lunch. I plan on returning again during next year's conference."

  • "While on vacation in New Orleans, we decided to dine here for a late lunch on our way back to the hotel to change. My husband rates italian restaurants on the quality and taste of the meatballs. We were VERY pleasantly surprised.. We ordered the meatball appetizer and eggplant Parmesan to share. Meatballs were the size of baseballs. The Red Gravy has the best meatballs money can buy, so close to how Mama G made them, it was uncanny. The eggplant Parmesan was good, but not great. We returned for brunch on Sunday. The star was the egg omelette stuffed with fluffy ricotta and chunks of meatball drizzled with red gravy! Light fluffy, amazing ! If you're scared of red gravy on eggs, think Italian salsa."

  • "Great place with fun, creative menu, knowledgeable staff and fantastic food. Had breakfast/brunch there both mornings during NBA All-Star weekend and it was awesome."

  • "I went for Valentines dinner with my wife. The restaurant was very nice, the food was outstanding, and the service was great. Unfortunately the tables (2 tops) were so close together you had to turn sideways to get between them and we had to endure the conversations of the people on either side of us. This unfortunately really ruined our experience. We asked to be moved to another table and were told that all the tables were reserved even though there were approximately 15 tables open. If you want some great Italian food I would recommend the Red Gravy, but if you are going for an intimate dinner there are much nicer places."

  • "Red Gravy was a great find. The food was delicious! The meatball was fantastic. Our waiter was good but the others helping need more training. Our only complaint about the food was it came out luke warm and I believe this is because the staff is slow and need more training."

  • "First time dining. We had Saturday breakfast. I had the breakfast with their special meatballs. Excellent. My wife had the omelette with sweet sausage. Excellent as well. Other items looked good. We will keep it on our weekend breakfast list in Nola!"

  • "saw this restaurant after leaving church and made a reservation for brunch. This place knows what it is doing! Her red gravy is delicious! Her meatballs are tender and delicious. I had two large meatballs, covered in mozzarella cheese over grilled French bread, topped with two eggs over easy and gravy. Different! Delicious! Daughter had the chicken and waffles and cleaned her plate. That never happens. This place will be added into our repertoire!"

  • "Our first visit to Red Gravy was for the Feast of the Seven Fishes. Our meal was delicious, particularly the flounder/polenta, mussels and scampi courses. Wine pairings were new to me and complimented each course. Most of all, chef Rosann and staff clearly intend to offer a dining experience that speaks to both the appetite and the heart-feels like home with an extra helping of elegance. Get in there and eat!"

  • "We are a couple in our mid-60's visiting NOLA. The previous night friends dined and raved. We found the brunch adequate once you get past the abrasive woman at the door. The place is tiny and she wants to prevent a huge queue right next to diners so requests everyone to stand outside. It was a freezing, rainy, windy morning and we were seated near the door. We must have heard 20 times her rude diatribe about "only one person at a time" as if people coming in off the street could see there was already someone inside the door. It was enough to sour us on the entire meal."

  • "The menu is tailored to seasonal foods, pasta made in house, fresh raviolis with a different filling every week, and specials that are amazing! I go every time I'm in town (a lot) and I have never left without being amazed! Get the pork belly ragout and ALAWYS get the "salad du jour"!"

  • "I reserved using Open table which was very convenient and easy. We had a group of 10 and Red Gravy was extremely accommodating as we were running a little late after parking difficulty and they saved our reservation. By far some of the best food I've had in the city- each of our items were perfectly cooked and extremely flavorful. Favorites: chicken and waffles, fried green tomatoes with shrimp and the hash and eggs. We will certainly return!"

  • "My chicken pomodoro was tasty, but extremely tough and hard to even cut into bite size pieces. Shouldn't have to "saw" to eat chicken. My wife ordered shrimp scampi which could best be described as ramen noodles plus shrimp. Appetizer calamari was best part."

  • "I had their house meatballs, eggs, and grits. The grits were amazing! They had a hint of gravy to it, and it tasted delicious. The waitress was nice and the ambiance was definitely on the quieter side. I was there around 10am and the service was quick."

  • "Overall, the restaurant was quite good. However, our waiter was not having a good day. We had to ask twice for a menu after we were seated. We were never told about the specials. One of our entrees included a seperate meatball. After bringing our dishes, he said he would be right back with the meatball. We had to remind him about it 5 minutes later and we still waited a couple of more minutes before he brought it out. He was quite pleasant, but he seemed clueless about his service. Other than that, everything was excellant and I assume the problems we had were a fluke."

  • "The pasta was awesome, especially the ravioli. The RED GRAVY as we call it down south was very very good. The salad du jour was tantalizing. This is def worth the trip!"

  • "Went here for breakfast on Saturday, what a gem! Not your typical breakfast/brunch fare, much better. Farm to table fresh which we love. The owner was super nice and recommended a local butcher when I asked if she knew where I could find pork cheek. We look forward to going back for dinner."

  • "With Red Gravy, the Central Business District of New Orleans can add "authentic Italian" to a list of restaurants that feature Cajun, Creole, French and franchise. The eggplant entree was wonderful. The veal special was a solid dish. Portions were plenty and the service first class - never hovering but always there when you needed or wanted something. I live in Lafayette and that means I kow good food. I will go back to Red Gravy."
