Diner Reviews
  • "Everything was great about the place except the engineering team that oversees the building. A structural beam came down in the middle of our 10 year anniversary dinner, sending everyone out of the building. I still miss my half-eaten steak."

  • "This is one of our favorites, for sure; and that says a lot since TC is more and more known as a "foodie" town. This visit was no exception, although, sadly less than an hour after our leaving, was the collapse of the support column! So glad no one was injured! The staff is to be commended for their handling of the evacuation. Our thoughts and prayers are with RG owners and employees, and we will be anxiously awaiting it's return! Best to all! "

  • "Hands down Red Ginger is our favorite Traverse City sushi restaurant. Food and service is unbeatable. However, if you are looking for a quiet or romantic place to have a meal this is not the place. If you're looking for a trendy, fun and high energy evening Red Ginger will not disappoint."

  • "Great food and service. We made Open Table reservations and were seated as soon as we walked in. We had 2 servers and they were friendly and efficient. It is a bit noisy, so not a particularly romantic dinner but a beautiful dining room. Would go again. "

  • "This was our 2nd time to Red Ginger and we have really enjoyed both experiences. The food & service is excellent. We have read reviews regarding smaller portion sizes but thought our portions were plenty. We were very satisfied and would plan on going back next time in T.C. It might be pricey to take the whole family but probably worth the experience. We are very experienced diners and would rank Red Ginger up there with some of the best!"

  • "My wife and I enjoyed our 2nd anniversary at Red Ginger, the food was amazing and the service was off the charts. Thank you for making all the great food suggestions as well as making our special day amazing."

  • "Red Ginger is our favorite Traverse City Restaurant. The food is consistently great as is the service. We have a lakefront rental property in the Beulah area and Red Ginger is high on or list of recommended restaurants. "

  • "Hands down one of my favorite restaurants to go to whenever I am in town."

  • "Love this place. Never had a bad experience. Food and service is excellent"

  • "Red Ginger offer several unique Asian dishes you don't normally find in most resturants. The sushi choices are also very good. Prices are a bit high for this to be a place you would visit weekly "

  • "Hard to beat their sushi. Red Dragon is spectacular!"

  • "We had an outstanding dinner the evening before Mother's Day. We had a lobster and shrimp curry special that was truly memorable. Service was excellent and the wine list had a good selection of quality choices. The noise level is quite high which is the only drawback we experienced."

  • "We enjoyed a lovely meal and a unique one especially for this area! Service was quite attentive and the food was good. The atmosphere seemed more big city hot spot than anything else. The only thing which might be a turnoff for some is the noise level which can be deafening. Your vocal chords will be worked out to the max! Some other reviewers objected to the higher prices, although I found there was a nice price range to keep everyone happy. Personally, most Americans should be eating smaller portion sizes and if they are delicious ones, all the better."

  • "Red Ginger was a really good place to dine for us. The food is very good and the sushi is fresh made and delicious! It is a little pricey but totally worth it."

  • "We really liked Red Ginger on our trip up to Traverse City. Didn't expect to find Asian food way up there - but it was great. Fun, fresh, modern place - it was a good time. "

  • "The food is delicious. Asian fusion, plus sushi. Very lively flavors. Great wine list. Deserts are wonderful. We always visit Red Ginger whenever we're in Traverse City. Twice this trip!"

  • "We enjoyed our first time at Red Ginger; however, the prices were rather high for the area. We will probably return, but for a lunch instead. It was rather noisy up front, but everyone seemed to be having a great time. "

  • "I have taken son to eat with me at Red Ginger at least 4 times (with reservations) and each time, the hosting staff always seems to place us at some of the worst tables in the restaurant (always right by the kitchen). This time, I arrived with both of my sons (ages 10 and 13), and it happened again. Since it was my birthday, I asked if we could be moved to a better table. After minutes of back and forth conversation between our hostess and the front desk hostess, they moved us over one table, yet there were many open tables in many better spots. At this point, I give up. My husband and I frequent Red Ginger on a regular basis and this never happens when it's just us two. This treatment of patrons with children could be better."

  • "We dined here on Friday night, 4/25/2014. We started with the crab fritter and potstickers for an appetizer. The crab fritter was fresh and delicious. The potstickers were good, but unremarkable, imho. We shared a main course, which was a shrimp Thai curry. It was out of this world. We LOVE Thai and were a little apprehensive, but boy were we glad we ordered it. The shrimp were perfectly done. The curry sauce was fresh, aromatic, delicate and just phenomenal. They had a good wine list, as well. And our waitress, Rachel W. was FANTASTIC. Knowledgeable, helpful and attentive. We can't wait to get back up to Traverse City to dine at Red Ginger!!!"

  • "My fiancé and I set out to go to dinner at Traverse City's happening resturant Red Ginger. We walked in we loved it the service was wonderful along with the wine list! The only complaint we had was the sushi speciality rolls were very bland and lacked flavor. "

  • "We came in from out of town and since my wife is Korean, we thought we would especially enjoy a new asian restaurant. We came hungry, and unfortunately, we left hungry. The portions were especially small (jokingly small). We have alot of experience with asian cuisine and restaurants, and we have never seen such a tiny serving of Kung Pao Shrimp (especially for $20+). There was a lack of diversity in the vegetables within the dish, and the seasoning was noticeably non-asian. The environment was nice, though loud. The waiter was nice and polite, but the other waitress helping for our table was fairly grumpy. All in all, the Subway sandwich that we had to eat after our dinner (as we were still hungry), was more satisfying. "

  • "We had heard great things about the food and were not disappointed. We love being able to go to places where they can make something delicious that we would struggle to make at home. The sushi, though lauded by others, was only average. But price was not unreasonable. We were hoping for something a little quieter/romantic and this was definitely more of a hip hangout scene. All in all, would still recommend."

  • "Made a reservation at 7:30 got right in kinda slow night there lots of open seats ... Then was sat at a table right in front of the grill with lots of foot traffic and kitchen smell and noise for the pricey menu.staff was quick to start but slow to take our order.. Felt like a Applebee's or something ...overall food was good and cooked great"

  • "Our experience at Red Ginger was very pleasant. The service was great and the food good as usual. Be sure to try the sushi. Waiter was very helpful, knowledgeable and attentive. Good wine recommendation too. The entrees were pleasing to the eye and the flavors robust and varying (by the entrees our party ordered). Go and enjoy!"

  • "I live in Traverse City and we have some great restaurants here but Red Ginger is consistently one of the very best, and the one I frequent the most. Chef Dan has created a chic urban feel that embraces the history of Traverse City, high-quality food that is complex in flavor, and attentive but not pushy service. Other restaurants should pay attention to what Red Ginger is doing because no one else seems to offer the entire package. My two sisters and I have already been their twice this week and so have my parents, all in mixed groups. Well done, Red Ginger. It feels like Chicago but with the coziness of being at home."

  • "Our experience with Red Ginger never disappoints. We were served by two servers who tagged teamed efficiently and professionally through out the evening. The food was excellent. We started with the featured sushi roll which proved to be fresh and well prepared, very tasty. The following salad was crisp and flavorful. We enjoyed the Chinese ribs...a new favorite that we will long for every time we are in traverse city, I am sure. Desert was a perfect balance of rich ess, sweetness and lightness in chocolate. The bottle of wine was reasonably priced and paired well with the entire meal. And finishing with a cup of excellent decaf espresso was a wise move. In short, we loved it!"

  • "I always love going to Red Ginger! Their food is outstanding! I have a gluten allergy and they went out of their way to make sure I knew what I could have and what was available. I also love that they let you sample the wine before buying a glass or bottle. Whenever I have an opportunity to go out with my husband, my first choice is always Red Ginger!"

  • "This is my 2nd year of taking advantage of Restaurant Week at Red Ginger. Regular pricing is a bit high for my food budget. I can eat two nights out at very nice restaurants for the price of one regular Red Ginger dinner. I appreciate that they participate with TCRW. I try to hit 2-3 different restaurants during TCRW. The food was amazing. Thanks!"
