  • "love the Peanut soup. A classic set in the historic Red Fox Inn. Wonderful historic Inn from the 1700s. A must when visiting Middleburg, VA"

  • "We have been to the Red Fox Inn multiple times over the years. The food remains outstanding as does the setting. We love this place and the town of Middleburg is as charming as it gets."

  • "The restaurant is great for its history. The ambiance is great. As far as food try the wedge; really good. My wife had the salmon dinner which was good. I had the pork schnitzel with spatzle. Unfortuntaly it want that good. It was our anniversary so I didn't want to say anything to damper our happiness. In any case the schnitzel was a joke not even close to the breaded pork you get in Austria (I have eaten there many times). Furthermore the spatzle were hard, not even close to anything you would want to eat. So overall gave it a 3 for ambiance but stay away from the schnitzel..."

  • "We have celebrated two anniversaries at the Red Fox. We enjoyed the ambiance of the remarkably old section of the inn and the food was excellent and just plain fun (Chicken Cordon Blue and Lamb Tenderloin). The price is medium high, but you get the value it implies. We will return to Middleburg in the future."

  • "Peanut soup was just as good as 15 yrs. yrs ago, wonderful outdoor lunch, will come back next time I travel through town"

  • "With the tip, we paid over $80 for brunch. For that I had salad, french toast and bacon, and my husband had soup, eggs, a small potato cake, ham and a dessert. The food was good, but the price was too high. We do love the ambience and have gone to this restaurant in the past mostly for the delicious peanut soup, which they did serve with brunch."

  • "This past Saturday evening we arrived about 6:30. Service was fine, food was good, noise level was atrocious. It was very difficult to converse with a person less than 3 feet away."

  • "Enjoyed staff and quality of food! Lamb sausage was incredible! Brussels sprouts awesome could have just had them and been happy!"

  • "Good atmosphere, great service, friendly management made the evening a pleasant experience. The food selection tends to be on the heavy side, but the combination of atmosphere and service made for an overall outstanding evening. My Wife and I will go back."

  • "Love their Sunday brunch! They have some fantastic pastries--especially the one with pecans. Too bad it's getting a bit hot to sit outside the lovely patio."

  • "Visiting from Iowa we wanted a true "local" experience. Loved the atmosphere and dined on the garden patio on a gorgeous Sunday morning. a blood-orange mimosa starter for me, then on to crabcakes w/ lemon and salmon salad for appetizers - and flank steak omelets for main course. 16 yr old daughter was stuffed after the crab cakes - and the omelets were gigantic. We could have gotten by splitting one breakfast and been perfectly happy. Pleasant and prompt service - a little pricey but a worthwhile experience!"

  • "We dined at thenRed Fox based on a recommendation. Our first night of our stay we really enjoyed it. great food. The 2nd night of our stay we had reservations elsewhere and we decided to cancel and go back the Red Fox. We were unable to book online due the restaurant being full. I called and explained we wanted to come back we had enjoyed it so much the first night....they welcomed us back and found a time for us. After a 4 night trip, my husband said his meal At the Red Fox was his favorite......and he is a great cook himself."

  • "We chose the Red Fox to celebrate a birthday. Our contacts were with the hostess, waitress and lady tending bar. All were friendly and provided excellent service. The food standout of the evening was the artichoke and crab casserole. The salmon was bland with a slightly sweet taste. The bourbon pecan pie was very good but on the small side. The wine list contained an offering from our favorite town on the Rue de Vin, Alsace, France. That pleased us very much. At $80 - $100 per person, I expected a more upscale experience. I was disillusioned when the majority of the patrons were dressed as if they were dining at a fast food restaurant. It was a pleasant evening but for my $80 - $100, I believe there are better options."

  • "The Red Fox Inn is a lovely historic restaurant in Middleburg Virginia. The atmosphere is lovely with stone walls & beamed ceiling. The food and service is great. The filet & crab is especially delicious. This restaurant is a great choice for a romantic dinner or afternoon birthday lunch. It's one of Middleburg's gems & a great place to stop after a day of shopping & wineries in the Middleburg area. They have a very nice wine list as well. If you are in the quaint town The Red Fox Inn is a must do stop."

  • "I had lunch with a friend from Winchester who had never been to the Red Fox Inn. He thoroughly enjoyed the experience, good food, and great service by Sarah. For me it is always a pleasure to eat here."

  • "When you first enter, everything looks beautiful. Quiet, quaint, really neat place. Server starts out with an amazing greating with the daily features, they even had my favorite beer. Then, my wife, who's pregnant, says "I'll just be drinking water tonight" and the whole thing goes sideways, and in a hurry. The server became noticeably agitated, distant and even a little rude. Beyond that, our meals were absolutely horrendous. Pork schnitzel was like eating jerky topped with sausage and the pepper gravy was more like alfredo sauce. Her filet was dry and stringy and the "crabcake" looked like fried mashed potatoes. The food was so bad I couldn't wait to get the taste out of my mouth. I will definitely not be returning."

  • "I am NEVER disappointed when I go to the Red Fox Inn. Their food and service is outstanding, and I love that they two wine lists--one with a variety of wines and one with only Virginia wines. Of course we always choose a Virginia wine and I am glad to see that Red Fox continues to be such a supporter of local wineries and farmers. I can't say enough good things about this restaurant--everyone needs to take the drive out to Middleburg and try it!"

  • "We decided to have Sunday brunch at The Red Fox Inn to celebrate a birthday. Best. Decision. Ever! The service was outstanding! The food was amazing (the mini crab cakes & shrimp and grits were on another level) and the classic brunch cocktails of mimosas and bloody marys were bumped up a notch with some unique and welcome twists. The attention to detail was what really impressed me the most. Even the restrooms were impeccible...which I can assume is not easy considering the age of this building. I cannot wait to go back!"

  • "We went to celebrate a special anniversary. The service was fine but the food just average. Nothing special. Also, both of us had stomach aches later that evening."

  • "I placed a note on the on-line reservation that it was our 50th wedding anniversary. When we entered they congratulated us and placed us at a nice little corner table. Iris waited on the table and provided suggestions on portion size and followed the serving timing requests nicely. We enjoyed a four course meal with a tasty crab dip, peanut soup, house salad, and a delicious entree of hickory bourbon glazed salmon on a bed of zucchini squash spaghetti and feta cheese grits. The desserts were served with a lighted candle and a happy anniversary comment."

  • "We had a nice romantic birthday dinner for two. The ambiance was perfect - romantic. The food was great! We had the duck and carb cake/filet. All was outstanding. We stayed at the inn and also had breakfast there in the morning."

  • "Beautiful historic building; multi levels; many fireplaces. Warm and welcoming. Every staff member we encountered (we stayed in the Inn there as well, which was wonderful) was friendly, helpful and upbeat. Food was exceptional. We travel all over the world, and my husband announced it was his new favorite restaurant."

  • "The building, built in the early 1700's provides a great atmosphere for a special occasion. We were visiting in Virginia and made the 40 minute drive to have lunch. Each of the four of us had something different and we were all very pleased. Nice experience. Great little town, too! Spend the afternoon."

  • "Wonderful experience! Built in the 1700s the history of this building is amazing - from the bar which was used for surgery in the civil war to the presidents who have dined here - it is awesome. The food was fresh, delicious and plentiful. Food server was very attentive, but a little too quick to bring our check when we were still eating. Will definitely come back the next time we visit this area."

  • "I wanted to surprise my wife on our 35th wedding anniversary, June 16, and find a restaurant which served the same item we had way back then, Chicken Cordon Bleu. I thought it would be rather difficult as I rarely see this item on menus anymore. And I thought it may be in a rather pricey restaurant toward the downtown DC area. We live in Herndon, VA. I searched the web and found the Red Fox Inn. It was a most delightful drive out in the VA countryside. Parking was very convenient. We were welcomed with gracious hospitality and led to a cozy backroom by the fireplace. Exceptional server, absolutely delicious food, the whole evening, simply delightful ! Many, many Thanks. Hope to visit real soon."

  • "We thought the filet was excellent, the mushroom side dish was a great complement, the salmon was very good and the glaze which was a little sweet didn't overwhelm the fish. I thought the grits that came with the salmon were okay but my dinner partner liked them a lot. We tried the fried green tomato appetizer, which stayed crispy, and liked it very much. Also, the selection of wine by the glass was very good. Our server was attentive without being intrusive. Overall, we had a wonderful time and will return."

  • "Great ambience, food and service. However, I asked for an expresso with a little foam on top in the expresso cup and got charged an extra $1 which seemed a bit tacky on their part, not the way to encourage a revisit."

  • "I had a friend in from Sante Fe, New Mexico and we had a delightful lunch in the back room of the Red Fox Inn. The food is always great, and the service is first rate. They continue to thrive with their combination of great food, wonderful service, and nice atmosphere. As someone who only lives a mile away, I continue to enjoy being able to experience the Red Fox Inn and take my friends there to enjoy it too."

  • "My girlfriend and I loved our evening at The Red Fox Inn! She got the NY Strip and I got the Fried Chicken. The food was excellent and the service was really good as well. Great place for a quiet and intimate evening with a significant other. We look forward to going back in the fall!"

  • "This is a perfect place for a special dinner. It's not cheap, but the excellent food and service make it worth it. The salads and entrees are ample enough to split - a full entree was just too much food for me. The menu is not extensive, but there is something for everyone. The pork schnitzel with spaetzle was fabulous, but there was so much it left no room for dessert. Middleburg is a beautiful little town, and I am sure I will return, and will definitely eat at the Red Fox when we are back."

  • "Great food, nice ambiance and excellent accommodating service. A gem in Middleburg. The only drawback is the noise level. Even when the restaurant isn't packed, it is very difficult to hear your lunch partner(s), likely due to the old stone walls."

Staff was bery knowledgable on the history of the building and quick to share when asked. will definitely be going back and would recommend to anybody who would be in the area. great atmosphere."

  • "Nostalgic atmosphere. You have some good choices of dining areas. One by the bar which is the old world inn atmosphere, the back room area, which is brighter and then an outside area, which we chose because weather was great. Service was excellent as was food and drink. Menu prices were normal. Would recommend if in Middleburg. We were staying at Salamanders for a few days"

  • "We ate here on the recommendation of a friend. Food was excellent (HUGE dinner portions)...service was a bit slow and inattentive, but we loved the ambiance and overall experience. We ordered crab cakes and salads to start, then our very, very large dinners arrived...thought the server should have commented on the portion size, given the appetizers were small. It was curious she said "hope you're hungry" AFTER delivering our dinner instead of before we ordered...overall, would return when in Middleburg! "

  • "My mom and I decided to try the Red Fox Inn as part of our first visit to Middleburg. Majority of drinks were a bit pricey but the overall cost of a two or three course meal was fair. My mom's food came out pretty good and my caeser salad with smoked salmon was good as well but when I cut my egg burger in half I found a large thick dark gross beard hair...gross. I lost my appetite and WILL NEVER RETURN AGAIN!!!!"

  • "Have always wanted to try this cute restaurant! I thought the food couldn't possibly live up to the setting, but it did. We had lunch on the patio, and the food was really good. I had the crab cake with goat cheese grits, and my husband had the cobb salad. I loved all the Virginia wines on the wine list. Will definitely be back in the cooler months to sit inside by the fire. Lovely!"

  • "I came back to No. VA for a 2-day visit after retiring from the area last year. Number one on my "must do" list was lunch at Red Fox Inn. My Dad used to take me for lunch as a special occasion on my way back to Shenandoah Conservatory (a long time ago!) so it holds a special place in my heart. The food and service were as wonderful as ever. What an incredible place, I simply love it here! Thank you for living up to my memories!"
