The food is as good as it could be starting with the traditional shrimp cocktail that contained huge flavor-filled shrimp. As an entree I had the shrimp with grits, which provided a wonderfully generous portion. I couldn't turn down the creme brulette for dessert! It's always fantastic here! Staff was great, food was great. I had a Bloody Mary, a spinach salad, the asparagus and crab omelette, and pecan pie. My wife had the Hunt Country breakfast and the chocolate mousse. My wife and I had dinner there on a Thursday night enjoying the back room near the fireplace. The trout was great and the service was exceptional - I could barely drink some water before Phil or someone else refilled my glass. Wonderful. It gets more crowded on the weekends so I admit we don't come on Friday or Saturday nights. The food was fresh, carefully prepared, and beautifully presented. All plates arrived at the table hot, and laden with wonderful healthy food. There was also a fantastic basket of warm pastries and rolls, which were flaky, light as feathers, and amazing. The coffee was very, very nice, and our server couldn't have been more attentive. The food was delicious (crab and asparagus omelet), very friendly waiter, lovely setting. The brunch was $32 which I believe is standard for a nice brunch. However, we were charged an extra $3 for coffee which just seemed kind of tacky to us. We've been to the Red Fox many of times for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is always fun. The patio is especially nice in the spring and fall. So we will keep coming back, but I wish they would drop the extra charge for coffee.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe Red Fox Inn has been oneThe Red Fox Inn has been one of my family's standbys for many years. We wouldn't dream of visiting Middleburg without having lunch or brunch here. The 18th-century inn is a magnificent example of historic preservation, and the food and service could not be better. I took off one star for the hostess. She was cranky and seemed inconvenienced by her simply job.
As for the food, the peanut soup is simply fantastic. My sandwich- a chicken bacon and avocado was delicious. However, I'm almost positive, the waiter lied about the sweet potato fries being homemade. Management made it very special, reserving our table by the warm fireplace. The menu looked so good, it was difficult to decide what to choose! Everything we ordered was fantastic...even down to the coffee during dessert! The ambiance was warm, inviting and cozy. This was perfect for an intimate meal.
