A word from Red Fish Grill
Remember when Matt Dillon was eavesdropping on Cameron Diaz in the movie "There's Something About Mary"? They were at Red Fish Grill. And what a location! Whether dining outside under the Palms at the edge of Biscayne Bay or in the historic coral stone dining room, this restaurant is like nowhere else. It's a slice of Florida that disappeared long ago in most parts of Miami. But it's a lot more than atmosphere that brings in the locals and notables. The menu is dedicated to fresh local seafood, cooked with a gourmet twist, sometimes Caribbean... sometimes Asian. Best bets: Fennel Seared Yellowfin Tuna on Crispy Wonton, Crab Cakes with Tropical Melon Slaw, Red Snapper with Shaved Red Onion Fennel Salad, Herb Crusted Sea Bass with White Bean Ragout, homemade Key Lime Pie and Caramel Flan with Toasted Coconut. And a wine list that's reasonable and varied. Please visit our website for further details. Continued

Diner Reviews
  • "We decided to finally visit this restaurant. We chose outside. It was a windy beautiful night. We made 7:30 reservations in order to see the sun set. The service was spot on. I had the black mission salad with goat cheese and toasted walnuts which was heavenly paired with my white wine. We also ordered steamed mussels and calamari all good. The fish is fresh and very good. For vegetarians the Carrot Ginger Risotto is a nice option. We did not want to leave this magical setting so we shared key lime pie. We will be back. "

  • "Our 2nd visit to Red Fish Grill and it will not be our last. A perfect evening and the Chilean Sea Bass is to die for."

  • "I grew up in Miami and had never heard of Red Fish Grill. It turns out that it is a little hidden GEM! . The table was set aside with the chairs facing the bay. We made it right before Sunset, so we were lucky enough to get the day into night experience. Our server Luis was amazing, friendly and attentive. He made sure to bring our dessert with a candle covered by a wine glass, so the wind wouldn't blow it out. Overall....it was a delightful experience and I will recommend it to friends and family."

  • "Been there several times. This time, though, it was not very good. The corn and crab chowder had tough leaves you couldn't chew. Worst if all, the pan fried snapper was overdone, dry, over salted on the crusted side, and the tablespoon of sauce was sparse and lacked flavor.the snapper was topped by shreds of raw cabbage and onion. Really? No side items whatsoever are even listed or offered. It came with a bowl of plantain chips. The only meal that was decent in our party of four was a hangar steak. There were no specials, and the waiter unenthusiastically suggested the two highest priced items, of course. Based on the menu and the food preparation, we won't go back. Also, check the weather. When it rains, it is bedlam there. "

  • "The Red Fish staff was at the top of their game and delivered a fantastic anniversary evening, that could not have been achieved without the Magical location of this restaurant. A+ for all aspects of the meal, food and service!"

  • "Amazing little secret location. Food is not so great, but not bad either, the view is worth every second. You can walk in the beach before or after dining. Super cool!"

  • "This restaurant is lovely, romantic and perfect for a special occasion of any kind. The food is excellent, if a little pricey so not an everyday type of place. Highly recommended for special events."

  • "My husband and I have eaten here many times. This time just wasn't as good. To start we called and asked for a reservation and were told they were completely booked. Went on open table and got reservations immediately. When we arrived we saw many open tables inside and out. I thought they would fill up completely but never did, this was a Saturday night. As for the food, just okay. I had the pan fried snapper that I've had before. This time somewhat dry and very little of the sauce that makes the dish. My husband ordered the special. A $56.00 filet. It definitely was not worth $56.00. We will try one more time, we live in the neighborhood and love the location. Hopefully this was just a bad night."

  • "Such a beautiful location, in a historic building. All you hear outside other than your fellow diners is the wind in the palms. Beautifully lit palm-surrounded outdoor patio overlooking the bay - in a very off-the-beaten-track location in Coral Gables that feels almost like a secret spot. Delicious snapper and Chilean Sea Bass. Wonderful service from our waiter. Dinner in paradise."

  • "Neither my wife or I had been to the Red Fish Grill previously but we wanted a new restaurant experience. We both started with the black bean soup with shrimp and bacon. It was spicy and excellent. For our entre I had the pan fried red snapper and my wife had the grilled salmon. Both were excellent. The ambience was great and the service very good. My only complaint is the limited choices on the menu."

  • "My husband and I went for my birthday and it was hands down THE BEST! Checking in they asked if we had a reservation - I STRONLY recommend you make one. They matched our request to a T and we sat outdoors at 7 pm (in March) exactly as the sun was setting. The wine list doesn't have the largest selection but there was something for everyone. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. The crab cakes apptzr is a must try - crisp, fresh, delicious. I had mahi mahi while my hub had the salmon - both were superb. He said the portions were a bit small, but it was perfect for me. Dessert list is a little small but sufficient. Review the menu first. You will NOT be disappointed! This is a gem of a find, tucked away right there at the ocean!"

  • "For view and ambiance, this is the place. There were a few things though -- not much a a selection on their by-the-glass wines and the waiter unashamedly tried to upsell me on my choice saying the lower priced cabernet was "too sweet". I ordered the Maine lobster which was grilled and came a bit dry. The Yuca mash was excellent. For two, sharing a salad, 2 glasses of wine, Sea Bass and Lobster was $120 which is a little high for the non-downtown venue but here you pay for the view and what a view it is!! We went around sunset and between the sea air and gorgeous setting, it was worth the price. After dinner we walked around Matheson and the marina which was a great way to end the day."

  • "The food was good and the view was great; however, Noseeums kept us busy all night scratching. The wine list is very limited and its hard to order anything not prepared the way the menu says it is. We ordered a half order of Risotto to taste in addition to two fish entrees but this was not possible??? We asked why and the server kindly said the plate was only sold as a main dish. (we had already ordered a bottle of wine multiple appetizers, bottled water, two entrees...give me a break....make a half order) We had a nice time and the service was good but all the ratings I read were a bit over the top. The plastic chairs have to go."

  • "The reservation was a great way to save time and enjoy more time outside. The ambience is nice, relaxed, and the view is perfect. The selection of wines not the best, the food was well prepared and well presented. Not a large menu to choose from, but ok. I recomend this place. Thanks for reading"

  • "When looking for a quite evening with someone special Red Fish never fails. Their fish is always fresh and the ambiance is always delightful. We started with the ceviche. Fresh and bright. She had the fennel crusted seared tuna. Awesome. For me, I had the pineapple salsa mahi mahi. Surprise to her since I am very picky where I eat fish. I usually only eat fish I harvest. But it was fresh and perfectly cooked. The salsa was delicious and the malanga purée was perfect on the pallet. Highly recommend the key lime pie as a desert. It is tart and the crust is nutty with coconut. Over all I highly recommend this place."

  • "While you might not enjoy this so much in the summer, in the winter, it's fabulous to sit outside. The menu is not extensive, but what they have, they do pretty well. The salads are sometimes over-dressed (too much dressing), but the salads listed are great. Wine list is short but the corkage is very reasonable. It's a fabulous place to hang out with friends and have a decent meal. Service is very good."

  • "I absolutely loved this restaurant. The food, service, view, atmosphere, really everything was wonderful. My only criticism is that their dessert menu was boring without many choices. None of the desserts as noteworthy. Besides that, I ant wait to go back."

  • "I was very disappointed with the service, food and over experience. It was my girlfriends birthday and I wanted to do something special for her.. The service was horrible our waiter kept on discouraging us from ordering things because it would take too long. He kept on saying its a " busy night". The appetizers were dropped off by server with an attitude that practically dropped the plates on the table. The main course took almost an hour and 15 minutes to arrive. Pork chop was very overcooked and hard and girlfriends fish was also overcooked and bland. The waiter almost never checked in on us. All in all it was very disappointing for a place that claims to be fine dining. I would most likely not return to eat here."

  • "One of my dinner guests requested a glass of iced tea....and was told that the only iced tea available was Sweetened Lipton out of the can. Really? It's deplorable that a restaurant with a reputation for "fine dining" doesn't offer fresh brewed iced tea... Or at least a premium brand of unsweetened tea in a glass bottle! Or could not the server have offered to bring hot tea and a glass of ice? I would recommend this restaurant with reservations/warning to friends."

  • "My wife and I took my mother to Redfish for her birthday. She loves seafood and we wanted to treat her to something special. Redfish did no disappoint. It was a beautiful evening, weather couldn't have been any better. The staff was friendly and inviting. The food, the food was fantastic of course. Appetizer was exquisite, entrees was mouth watering. My wife and my mother both has the red snapper which was just absolutely delicious and so fresh. It was an absolutely beautiful evening and will definitely return to Redfish for all my other special occasions."
