  • Special Events & Promotions: The venue molds itself into everything from seated dinner parties and cocktail events to live performances and late-night celebrations with an expanded full-service bar and a late night menu. Modeled as a modern version of the traditional Chinese teahouse, shades of fuchsia, crimson and copper replace the customary red and gold for a more 21st century twist on traditional culture. Accented by Tom Dixon light fixtures and a slanted ceiling, exposed light bulbs are hung throughout the main room to mimic koi fish in a pond. The space is both highly creative and interpretive with enough space for DJs and/or live entertainment to appease a multitude of different types of events and other group gatherings.

A word from Red Egg
Originally opened in 2008 as both a Peruvian and Cantonese restaurant, owner and culinary director Darren Wan decided to reconceptualize the already successful restaurant in 2010 into the chic, upscale and exclusively Cantonese format that it is today.

Melding traditional Chinese cuisine with a hip and contemporary venue, RED EGG caters to those looking for excellence in their cuisine as well as in the ambiance they want to enjoy it in. In addition to the Cantonese and Szechuan specialties menu, RED EGG features classic Cantonese dim sum throughout the day.

Recently awarded the Bib Gourmand rating in the MICHELIN Guide New York City 2011. Don't forget to try the Peking Duck Sliders, Pan Fried Dumplings and Red Egg Filet Mignon to name a few.

  • "We chose to celebrate Chinese New Year at Red Egg on Saturday afternoon both because they had good reviews on various sites as well as the fact that they accept reservations. They have a wide variety of food choices, but we were there for Dim Sum and were not disappointed. We particularly liked the soup dumplings, the pork cilantro shrimp dumplings, and the young coconut pudding (which is served in its coconut shell). We appreciated the fact that we could order off the normal menu instead of being forced to order from a "special" holiday menu. We'll be back!"

  • "In 8 years of OpenTable dining, we've never run into this problem. We checked in 10 minutes early for 1 pm lunch on a Friday. Waited for 30 minutes and then left and went down the street to another restaurant and had a nice lunch. They seemed very disorganized. There were at least 3 other groups waiting when we arrived but only 1 with an Opentable reservation (I was sitting next to their computer) and 2 booths that were free and never got used while we were there. Our name was added to a handwritten list.....we were number 8 on her list (???). The place was packed so I assume the food was great. There was a huge round table of guests right by the bathroom that you had to walk around to get to - glad I wasn't seated there."

  • "Somewhat suspicious abt a restaurant in Chinatown needinga reservation but my husband did not want to take a chance abt waiting somewhere. Odd, clubby decor. Maybe it's a hot spot later at night? Ordered 3 dim sum- pork buns, shrimp dumplings & ribs with garlic. Buns & dumplings were okay but the ribs were deep fried? How would we have known this from the menu? How would we have known to even ask if this were a possibility? Noodles w/ black mushrooms were tasteless & gummy. Sauteed scallops w/ pea pods were better. Left food on the plates, not something we usually do. Bottom line- do more research. So many other possibilities in Chinatown that must be better. And they did not check us in as Open Table members."

  • "I had read the reviews and their website before booking. One of the reasons I booked for an early dinner was that the website stated happy hour until 7pm. The website didn't say anything about holiday exceptions. We (a group of 10) booked for New Years Day. After getting there, we discovered that there was no happy hour on holidays. The food was pretty good, but not exceptional. I probably wouldn't go back."

  • "When you first enter and see the bar it looks kind of cool.....keep walking further into the restaurant and it starts looking like a cheap diner. The service was pretty crummy. Cloths on some tables and no cloths on the others. Just kind of icky. Waiter was hard to understand and he was having trouble understanding us. But the food was pretty darn good....only very expensive. All in all I would not return."

  • "A friend recommended this spot on the fringe of Chinatown and it is a great spot. The regular menu is lengthy and there is a daytime and night time Dim Sum menu to choose from. The wait staff is pleasant and with capable English able to help you with unfamiliar selections or special requests--which they were happy to provide. Lots to choose from, and everything we selected was excellent. I am going to make this a regular stop when I am in NYC and looking for great Chinese food."
