Diner Reviews
  • "We had an all-around great time at The Red Door. The service, the food, the ambiance, and the value is all excellent. What I loved most is that I didn't feel rushed to finish our meal (and bottomless mimosas) and leave. The staff was super friendly. I will definitely be back."

  • "After our 2nd time dining at Red Door I can confidently say that the good folks in the kitchen know what they're doing. Food is always spectacular, service is great and drinks (cocktails) are delicious."

  • "A couple of us stopped here after work after a very long week. The service was excellent, the food was great, and the atmosphere was calm but bright. Loud enough to know there were lots of other people enjoying themselves, but quiet enough to still have a conversation We will stop here again!"

  • "Went for brunch with my family and while the food was great the service was EXTREMELY slow. We did not order anything special and were there for over 2 hours because it took so long to order or food and then get our food. Also I think this place is good for couples but not groups - the back room is really loud and it was difficult to hear everyone at our table talk. While the food was good I wouldn't go out of my way to eat here."

  • "We ate in the back of the resturant, actually a second room and the noise level was unbearable. There is a short wine list, about 6 each of red and white, however quite an extensive beer list. The food; the kale chips would have been perfact if the chef had not been so heavey with the salt. Ditto with the squid. I thought the quinoa with mushrooms was excellent. The manager could not have been more gracious, as the server was. I think this may be for a very young crowd."

  • "Delicious korean spare ribs and yummy kale chips. However we were seated in the back room where there were harsh light bulbs hanging, nothing to absorb sound, so we were practically yelling at each other to be heard, and mostly plain , mint green walls that didn't have the warmth and neighborhood feel of the front half of the restaurant."

  • "Delicious unique food, great service, recommendations, and great beer/wine list, brunch and dinner are both awesome"

  • "We were not drinking and were not given a choice of being seated in the back dining area. Our server seemed miffed when we did not order drinks. Our food was ok, but my burger had clumps of salty meat."

  • "My wife and I noticed there were usually tables available here when we're looking or a weekend dinner spot, so we decided to try it. It's a pretty small space but nice and cozy for a meal. The menu is small but the food was great...we had the brussel sprouts, mussels, and catfish which were all good. One of the best things about this place was the beer list. They had a huge list with a lot of rare and specialty beers which was great to share and be able to try some new beers. Late night, around 11, they cranked the music and it turned into more of a bar scene, but they keep it more in "restaurant mode" through dinner. Will definitely go back."

  • "The food blew me away. I live just a few blocks from this gem and have never stopped in. I will be returning soon."

  • "I've been here for brunch of few times in the past month and it has been consistently good! It's usually pretty easy to get a table when you walk in, but I make reservations anyway just in case. The brunch menu is compact but offers a good range of tastes from sweet to savory, and the mimosa's/bloody's a delicious."

  • "Portion sizes very small. And the food wasn't even good. Plates also came cold."

  • "My girlfriend and I had dinner on a Saturday night. While the food was excellent when it did finally arrive, our server ignored us for most of the night. Throughout the evening, our drinks sat empty with our server nowhere to be found. We remained polite, but after getting the attention of another server our waitress appeared to become hostile. After two hours in the restaurant we were late for another engagement despite our sufficient communication with the wait staff. Compliments to the chef, the food was unique and prepared perfectly. I would recommend this spot for anyone who doesn't have plans after dinner, and who is known for their unwavering patience."

  • "Seating area is small and cold. Got crowded and there was only one server, so it took awhile to get anything."

  • "Food is unique and delicious. We went during restaurant week and got the baked goat cheese with pumpkin bread and the beef tataki for appetizers. Both were delicious and different. We then got the truffle gnocchi and diver scallops with butternut squash puree. Both were too die for. I was obsessed with the truffle gnocchi and the scallops tasted so fresh. For desert we ordered nutella panacotta and the lemon cake with basil ice cream. I favored the nutella panacotta! It reminded me a little of chocolate pudding. This bar had a great whiskey selection and reminded me of a speakeasy. I ordered a gin drink that came out in a 1920s style champagne glass, which was adorable! It's all about the details for me. They also had a good beer selection."

  • "Not a bad little pub, with decent food. Fine for a simple weekend brunch."

  • "I love brunch here. The difficult part is deciding which brunch entree to pick. They are all that delicious. I brought a group of 4 - 2 vegetarian- and we all loved our meals. My daughter had the french toast and she is a true food. She said it was the lightest she had ever had. Her boyfriend had the Croque Madame without the ham and he loved it. His mother ad the corned beed and was in heaven and I had the steak and eggs. I have no idea what the put in the eggs but the are the lightest imaginable and the steak has an oriental taste. It was amazing. And, the bottomless mimosa/ entree deal makes their brunch perfect. I go whenever I can."

  • "Pro: Fantastic beer and liquor menu. Food is also unique and pretty good. Con: The dining room in the back needs some work. The front room/bar has a nice warm pub feel to it, the back shows little love. We were put in the back corner and everything about the back room, even when full, feels bleak and underdone. Got to work on the seating and ambience in the back."

  • "I've been here a couple times, and have usually had a great experience. During this particular visit (during restaurant week), my girlfriends and I were less than impressed with the service. We struggled to get order more drinks, dishes weren't delivered by our waiter (which is fine if they check in how they look/if need anything-- he didnt), and after waiting 15 minutes for a cup of decaf coffee with dessert, received a lukewarm cup that I had to ask to microwave. We were there for 3 hours- not by choice- due to our server. Everything about the food was excellent, though. I'll be back again."

  • "I can't get enough of this place. Best brunch in town! Everything is expertly made and served with a lot of heart."

  • "Our service was terrible. The waitress left us for almost an hour after our appetizers. We were out of food and drinks and I had to leave my seat to search her out and ask about our entrees. Then, instead of bringing us entrees they brought out our desserts instead, the food runner was utterly confused. They were woefully unprepared for "restaurant week" and it showed. Too bad though, the food was good."

  • "Went here on a double date for restaurant week after looking over the restaurant week menu. We wanted to try a new spot in a different neighborhood then we usually go out in (Lakeview). We were seated right away and received our drinks and first course rather quickly but after that things went very slowly. My first course of Pork Belly was some of the best I've had and 2 others had baked goat cheese which was just ok. After we received our first course the main course took almost an hour to get. My burger was cooked well and the fries were better than average. Two people in our group had the scallops which were large and cooked perfectly The fourth person had the duck which he ate in a matter of minutes. Overall good but poor service"

  • "Went to Red Door for Restaurant Week 2014 and had a great experience. Everything on the menu looked delicious. I hadn't realized it was such a gourmet restaurant. Food was amazingly good. We all tried different items on the pre fixe and were all pleased with our choices. Well done Red Door."

  • "I went to dinner here for restaurant week. I was very excited about the menu. I thought the food was very good, especially the burger, but the service was slow and more importantly there was no heat in the restaurant!!! Even the bus boy had his coat on. I had my coat, scarf and hat on. It would have been a good meal, but the temperature made it a poor dining experience."

  • "I went here for brunch last Sunday because it's one of the few places that takes reservations and the menu looked good. My boyfriend and I arrived and it wasn't too busy, we were seated immediately. I ordered the scallop eggs benedict which was insanely delicious, it was served on a very crisp, fresh english muffin and the scallops were cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered the steak and eggs, the steak was glazed in a Korean bulgogi style and served with kimchi. It was excellent. And I couldn't resist the bottomless mimosas for only $11. I will be back!"

  • "This is one of my favorite restaurants in the city and it happens to be right in my neighborhood! Incredible menu, impressive beer and wine lists, and intriguing cocktails. We've been several times and have been wow'd each time."

  • "This place is cold in the winter! Bundle up. The food can be amazing or so so depending on the chef that day. It is fun for beers/mimosas/bloody mary's and just for socializing. The server named Alexis is moody - can be friendly but not always. 2 out of 4 times here were great!"

  • "i went here for the restaurant week prix menu with my SO. The dinner was fantastic and they had an impressive list of beers/wines/whiskeys/bourbons to choose from. great atmosphere. however, it seemed that our waitress seemed distracted by two ppl at another who appeared to be friends of hers. she rarely came by the table, and more often than not, we were scanning for her and waiting on her to finally come by."

  • "We were a little surprised that we could ONLY order from a restaurant week menu, with no choice to order from their full menu. But the options were great and the food was delicious. The rest of the experience left something to be desired. We were seated right by the front door and were thus freezing the whole time. We sat for 10 minutes before a server came to our table at all. Turns out she was the floor manager and frequently got caught up doing things other than serving. We ordered a bottle of wine to have with our main course. It came out at least 5 minutes after the course was served. The wine is just so-so there. Definitely more a cocktail place. But the food will have me wanting to go back. Maybe just in the summer when it's warm!"

  • "My friends and I simply adore Red Door's Brunch menu! Bottomless mimosa's?! Hello! We felt like we had stumbled upon a gold mine! Red Door is my go-to dining destination."

  • "My boyfriend and I came here for a late brunch -- the place seemed pretty crowded, but I had made a reservation. I like the atmosphere -- very Bucktown-neighborhoodish -- and the brunch dishes are pretty good. My boyfriend got the steak and eggs, which he loved, and they kindly substituted brussels sprouts for the chicken confit in my omelet (I'm vegetarian). The most notable aspect of brunch, though, is the bottomless mimosa deal. Those things are strong -- and they'll continue to serve you long after you've paid the bill. It's a great option for a boozy brunch, but be careful! It's a long walk back to the blue line!"

  • "Loved the bottomless mimosa special, and the food was great, but we did not love that our food took forever. We were the first group in the restaurant for brunch, and the food still took almost an hour to come out."

  • "I liked this casual neighborhood with creative menu, good food and good service. There is an outdoor seating area that I can't wait to try in the summer!"

  • "We dined with a large group and then as a group of 2 here in the last week. Both experiences were great! Both the burger and Hanger Steak were the table favorites. Absolutely delicious! I'd also recommend the brussel sprout small dish, artichokes, wing, and kale chips. Those who had the gnocchi also thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Great place to dine!"

  • "The bartenders are amazing! super friendly, and explain their concoctions to you in great detail. They make their own Ginger beer, which is delicious. On top of that, the food is fantastic and reasonably priced. Standouts are the mushroom quinoa and the burger. They play fantastic music at a reasonable sound level and the ambiance can be described as rustic, casual."
