  • "Both steaks and French food dominate the options (I suppose the steaks are considered French, too, given the "Frites" attached to each) at Red Cow. We went with French finding both specials and standards that suited us. Great food and it came quickly. Staff was attentive and knowledgeable about ingredients and preparation. Prices very reasonable, with result being we want to go back."

  • "I love the foie gras torchon for my appetizer.Of course, the smoked Beef tongue an duck terrine are declious too. The 16 oz. boneless Rye eye steaks (Medium Rare) is awesome.It was not overcooked. The service was just unbelievably wonderful! The hostesses and our servers greeted us appropriately. The service was friendly and phenomenal. I will be returning to Red Cow in a very short time."

  • "What a delightful little place this is! I came here with a buddy of mine for an early dinner. We had reservations at 5pm and we arrived shortly after. Since it was a nice day and happy hour, the hostess asked us if we wanted to sit at a regular table, the bar, or the patio. We decided to sit at the patio since we could still participate in happy hour without sitting at the bar. The interior decor is contemporary yet cozy. Everything is very clean but something about it just seem homey. For food, we had charcuterie, the pork loin (not pork chop), a hanger steak with frites, and coffee ice cream. All of the food was very flavorful and had a pleasant aroma/appearance. Everything is made "in shop" adding to the unique character of this place."

  • "This spot has turned over numerous times, but it just hasn't worked in the past. It's been a bit too hip and a bit too expensive, but Red Cow might make it---the menu is interesting and the prices are reasonable. The steak frites are excellent and the wine list is good with reasonable prices. The atmosphere is great---made for Madrona not Capitol Hill."

  • "The food and steaks, frites and sides were great. The biggest drawback is the uncomfortable seats (sat in the bar) and the noise level. Energetic is not the right word. They need to work on this aspect of the restaurant."

  • "We went to Red Cow for Father's Day ( because steak and Fathers go together), the meal was good (not in the class of Staple and Fancey's) I guess we missed the char on the steak ( Red Cow has its own method of preparing the meat) sauces were great, frittes were awesome, salad with egg was great, deserts okay. Some good deals on the wine list."

  • "Went with a group of 5 for a birthday. Service was excellent. One issue, two ordered the ribeye for two and had to send it back because it was a poor cut of meat. The new piece came back an wasn't much different. Note, the waiter did everything possible to get things right, sounds like an unlucky piece of meat. Cocktails were great, as were the marrow bones and thy oysters were good but not life changing. The fries were amazing. Extremely good. Good place for a nice steak dinner with friends. "

  • "The steak was poorly cooked, which is disappointing considering it was $35. The fries were great, as well as the salads and the charcuterie board. Cocktails were fresh and fun, but the wine was too warm (stored openly near the kitchen). Cremant was a far superior restaurant when it occupied that space. "

  • "Love the food and service at this Ethan Stowell outpost, BUT the noise level makes it impossible to carry on a conversation unless you sit NEXT TO not across from your companion. I wouldn't not go because of this, but because of this I can't recommend it for a romantic dining experience, nor would I take anyone even slightly hard of hearing. A simple soft wall covering would do the trick and make the whole experience 5 star."

  • "Red Cow is great. I had The New York strip with steak frites and my friend had the most delicious burger ever. If you are looking for a place to come and have a beautiful steal with a friend, this is your spot. If you would prefer a quiet date, it's not the best, though, as the noise wall hit us as soon as we stepped through the door. It's not a wonder that Red Cow is popular, though; with a selection as tasty as this, I would expect a line out the door."

Also asked for a particular wait person and they would not accommodate me, even though that person was there and waited on another table the same size at the same time. So that is something that I will remember next time I think about going there. But the food is great. "

  • "This is our neighborhood restaurant. We usually sit by/at the bar. We tried the dining room this time; way too noisy since the space is all flat hard surfaces. (In fairness this has always been a challenge in this space). Which only made the wait more painful since it took about 45mn from our arrival to our entrees (there was a shared appetizer in the middle but still). We'll come back but will stick to the bar area from now on."

  • "Friday night dining ran at a brisk hum and many folks were talking on the loud side to be heard. Menu selection very good; included offerings for a more traditional man's palate: wonderful selection of cuts of beef, sides and potatoes, making Red Cow a destination fit for a foodie and a traditional eater. The food was pretty darn good; of the salad, cold pea soup, half chicken, NY strip, sautéed beans and mouse for dessert, all impressive, however, with so many wonderful dining choices in Seattle, I do not feel the need to return. The staff were among the best, though a note to the matre d' made through Open Table was overlooked. Something missing to make this an outstanding dining experience- either the comfort factor or food up a notch."

  • "Went to the Red Cow in madrona with my wife while the kids were away at a sleepover. Clean, simple, elegant space, and the service was excellent. Started with a refreshing beet salad which was tasty (but could have used a tad more dressing/acidity) and we each had a steak. The hangar steak with béarnaise sauce was really good, but the ribeye was phenomenal - great flavor and texture, well cooked. Tried both the roasted potatoes and the frites - the fries are REALLY good. Great wine selection too."

  • "New spot in Madrona (taking over for Cremant & June). We shared the chicken liver mousse (amazing!), split a salad and since the filet was 9oz split that as well and got a side and it was more than enough for two. You can really "over order" here as the portion sizes are large and there are a lot of options to choose from. The server was great in directing us...we sat in the bar area which seemed a little bit less noisy as the noise level can tend to be high per the design of the restaurant. He was super and paired some wines that went well with the different courses since we weren't really in the mood for an entire bottle of wine. NB-Bottlehouse across the street great place to grab a drink before hand as the bar at Red Cow very small"

  • "I highly recommend. We had terrific appetizers (e.g. the Salt Cod on toast) and salads. The pork chop was incredible, as were the scallops. Service was excellent. There shouldn't be any question about whether you should give Red Cow a try. But, four stars because there were a few hiccups -- all of which I assume will get corrected/perfected at Red Cow over time. For example, among six entrees, one was a New York strip that was not just a little over-cooked (ordered med rare and it came med well). At a place touting steak, this seemed pretty bizarre. Also, we had a rhubarb tart that was so hard it suffered from exploding crust syndrome -- where you try to cut it with the edge of a fork, and BOOM! pieces of tart are flying off the plate. "

  • "Well actually Zinc tables and great steaks and frites. The steaks are the centerpiece of the menu and the Charcuterie plate is a great way to start. At $25.00 for a selection of 5 pate's, terrines or rillettes it's a bargain. Next time I's double up on the Fois. Bon Appetit!"

  • "We enjoyed out dinner at Red Cow, and if you like Steak Frites, you will be happy too. I had the Braised Short Ribs, which were nicely cooked, and my husband had the Roasted Chicken, which was also good. The only thing that will stop us from coming back is the noise level. You have to shout to be heard, and there was only two of us at the table. It is a shame that they did not deal with that before they opened, because Madrona needs another good neighborhood restaurant. "

  • "Hard to enjoy the food, ambience, the company, etc. when it was much too loud. I mentioned this to the waiter who told me they were working on this problem. Until the restaurant adds baffling or whatever it takes to reduce the noise, I will not come back. Food was just ok, not amazing. Too salty & all the steaks served at our table were incredibly fatty (some fat is okay, but this was excessive). The waiter forgot to bring my side dish. I was so desperate to pay and get away from the noise ASAP, I didn't double check the bill to see if I was charged for the side dish I never received. "

  • "I thoroughly enjoyed a business dinner with four this week. It started with a jar of stingle nettle hummus that was amazing. It came with a side of pickled vegetables that we're perfect. I ordered the pork chop which came with super fresh asparagus, there were two orders of the roasted chicken and the potato side dish was scrumptious. The other order was the hangar steak with fries and it was great as well. We split the coffee ice cream, which comes in a super cool display, and chocolate mousse and both were to die for. Can't wait for our next meeting!"

Once the restaurant was filled, the noise level was extremely high. Went over to the bar area which was not quite as loud. Loved everthing about the dining experience except the noice level."

We were chased from the front (no where to stand) and then from the bar (no seats, other people were waiting) to stand awkwardly in a corner where we got in the way of all the servers. after getting seated though, they brought us some free oysters for the trouble and we went on to have a great meal."
