Our menus change frequently to reflect the wide variety of seasonal foods available regionally. The Wine Bar has over 25 wines by the glass and an extensive representation of Northwest Wines.   • "For four foodies (including a chef), this was a memorable meal! Highlights include the perfectly cooked Montana lamb and the beet salad that pleased the eye as well as the palate. Each dish was plated beautifully. While this is a perfect restaurant for a special occasion or romantic evening, I also noted it was kid-friendly because the maitre d' offered three young boys (perhaps ages 8-10) their own table next to their parents, and the boys behaved in keeping with the environment. The parents should be proud of them, but the restaurant also deserves praise for treating them as other diners."

  • "After deciding to spend the night in Missoula, our first thought was to make a reservation at Red Bird. It had been a few years since our last visit, and remembered what a nice evening we had then. We were not disappointed this time either. Eclectic decor, but tasteful. Our server, Orlando, was quite attentive and very helpful with the menu. The choices we made did not disappoint...a fresh Halibut dish for my husband and a perfectly cooked filet for me. I also had a special soup, which was actually a trio of soups...tomato basil peach; roasted corn and summer squash. They were all excellent and imaginative. Could have made a meal of just those! All in all, a very memorable evening indeed!!"

  • "What a wonderful dining experience! My husband and I were in town from Washington state to run the Missoula Half Marathon and went here for our pre-race dinner the night before. Heard about it through our virtual goodie bag provided by Run Wild Montana, and we were thrilled with the service, the quality of the food (especially for the price), and the ambiance. Definitely two thumbs up."

  • "Recently friends came to town from Delaware and Naples, Fla. They wished to treat us to dinner and enjoy a fine dining experience. I sent links to Pearl, Scotty's, Redbird and F&P where they were staying. They chose Redbird on account of the restaurants commitment to local sourcing of ingredients, wine list, and elegant Florence hotel. We ran late at cocktails and they made out no problem to postpone a half hour, it was a Tuesday. Food, as usual fabulous, wine selection very nice, dessert; beignets? How can you go wrong with that!"

  • "We were in Missoula for one night at the end of a trip through Montana and the Canadian Rockies. This was one of the best dinners we had on the trip. We had beet salad, seafood sausage (sausage of the day) lamb and pork dishes as well as the vegetarian tasting menu. Everything was delicious, and the service was attentive without being pretentious. Relaxing, beautiful and pleasant place--easy to have conversation."

  • "The food was exceptional. Taste, presentation, portion size, time to table - all of it was great. The menu had so many items that I would never usually eat (duck, beignets, and sour ale from Belgium) but decided to try out while I was there. All of these new experiences were so individually deeply satisfying which, when combined together, made for an amazing dining experience that my wife and I will not forget anytime soon. Carl the waiter was great - what a pleasant human being. His attitude and presence made the dining experience even better."

  • "I had a lovely dinner with friends from out of town on Saturday evening. The waiter was friendly and professional. When the wine that I had ordered did not appeal to my taste buds he was very quick to help me find one that I did like. The soup was exceptional. I enjoyed that more that the entree (halibut). My friend ordered the duck and thought it was really good. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a fine dining experience with wonderful interesting food."

  • "Overall, a good night celebrating a family event. But, the menu prices were very high for Missoula, MT. Those prices would be high in Seattle. Also, very disappointing that when we have 8:15 pm reservations, we were being told that they had already run out of some items and were even out of sides. Really? How do you run out of pasta? The seared scallops were borderliine burned. The atmosphere was great but lacking on the substance. "

  • "Fantastic place for Dinner. Foodies will love it. Perfect for special occasions. We recently moved here from Chicago & decided to give this place a try. For appetizers we had the Quail Satay which was Amazing, the currie peanut sauce was the best I've ever had, and the cheese plate which really had some incredible tastes. For an entree I had the Beef Tenderloin & my wife had the Bison trio. Wow! The Red Bird is my new favorite restaurant! It has two different atmospheres. The front has the bar area and is more of a social scene for dining, eating and socializing in a bit less formal & louder area. The back is the more formal & quiet area where my wife & I enjoyed our meal. We enjoyed the decor & top notch service as much as the food!"

  • "My husband and I dined here for the first time April 26. I ordered Pan Seared Duck Breast. Though ordered medium rare, the meat was cool and red in the center. It was 50% fat. Apparently it was reheated in a microwave as the molecular-sized soufflé was like rubber. The menu described a cherry-red wine reduction sauce. Really? BTW, the soufflé came in a 2" ramekin yielding about 2 bites and it was lackluster. We ordered a bottle of the Girard Petite Syrah, but our waiter failed to refill our wine glasses. The flatware was encased in a knotted cloth napkin, which I though was a bit of a pain to untie. I had to ask for cracked pepper; it was not offered. I also had the beet salad and it was good, not great. Can't go back."

  • "I was disappointed not to be able to have a birthday dinner with friends at Red Bird last month, so arranged another time to drive over to Missoula for this treat. I can rarely resist the lamb -- whatever it may be -- and had it this time. It was a braised lamb dish with Indian flavors -- mashed potatoes with tiny yellow split peas (I couldn't figure out what the slight crunch was and had to ask -- couldn't see them!). I usually take half the dinner home, but this time I couldn't stop eating and cleaned my plate. The wine list is always interesting -- I had a South African red blend, which was great with the lamb. My favorite restaurant in Missoula -- highly recommended!!"

  • "The Red Bird has been our special-occasion restaurant since 1996. We have never been disappointed with all aspects of the dining experience. The friendly and experienced wait-staff were intuitive to our needs and enhanced the dining experience with very few interruptions. Our party of five ordered an eclectic mix of : halibut, duck, rack of lamb, bison and scallops for their entrees. The food was prepared to perfection. The white-bean soup was rich and tasty, but not overpowering in flavor. We will continue to use the Red Bird as a destination restaurant in Missoula, Montana."

  • "This was our first trip to the Red Bird for dinner. We enjoyed the atmosphere - the secluded dining room makes you feel part of an exclusive club with lavish decor from the 1940's complete with gold wallpaper and pillows at every seat while smooth jazz playing in the backround. The food was very good, but I must admit it wasn't as good as I was expecting for the price. I had the swordfish with a caper & tomato sauce topping that I didn't care for paired with the fish. My favorite was the pear and Gorgonzola salad which left me wanting more. The portion size was good for the main courses. The service was timed so you had time to converse and enjoy each course, but our glasses were never empty. We enjoyed our experience at the Red Bird."

  • "I have been in the Red Bird Wine Bar many times, and have enjoyed their extensive wine and beer menu. However, my fiance made reservations for the Red Bird restaurant for us to try out. They had a 4 course prefixed menu or you could order off the menu of your choice. We decided on the four course with wine pairings. This is not what we typically do- it is quite pricey--but very delicious. The service was excellent, the wine was excellent, and I was pleasantly surprised at how delicious the Beef Wellington in puff pastry was!"

  • "The wine bar is much more "energetic" (see noise level), but the restaurant area is quieter. Be sure to try the fondue and DO order the bison tenderloin. Certainly save room for coffee and dessert - the coffee is an experience in and of itself."

  • "The food was excellent. The use of local ingredients and local wines was appreciated. The decor in the wine bar is excellent. The decor and ambiance in the dining room was discordant and does not match the caliber of the menu. The combination of gold foil wallpaper and an over-sized glass chandelier simply does not work. Only the quality of the food and the excellent service kept our group satisfied. That said, future business dinners will likely be held in operations with a better atmosphere."

  • "The Red Bird provides imaginative use of local foods and serves local wines. Both are pluses to a discerning diner. The bar is beautiful and well decorated with good use of soft lighting, dark ceiling and color. The bar menu is excellent and rivals almost anything in town. The decor in the dining room is very unfortunate and almost overwhelms the quality of the food. . I will take visitors and guests to more interesting locations or simply eat in the bar. It would be embarrassing to bring in someone for a fine meal."

  • "We had been to the Red Bird before for our anniversary a time or two, but this time was for a Halloween special dinner offered by the restaurant. The package included a wonderful course selections which could include wine or not at the diners' option. The servers were dressed in costume and costumes were encouraged for the diners. We had a fun evening with wonderful food, all made fresh by the restaurant. The Red Bird is a special place to go and we will continue to visit them."
