Conceptualized as an outgrowth, and a home for Chef Jesse Schenker and Pastry Chef Christina Lee’s Recette Private Dining “underground” supper clubs, “Recette”(recipe in French) pushes boundaries by offering the food demanded in a fine dining experience, but in a warm, welcoming atmosphere. Recette is an urban American restaurant that marries traditional and progressive techniques, while manipulating ingredients and temperature to create maximum flavor. We honor the ingredients by refusing to use anything but the best. We adjust the menu seasonally to highlight the availability of these but quality, freshness and consistency in this always remains paramount. The sophisticated yet approachable menu is designed so that diners can order just as they please. With the option to participate in one of three tasting menu options or order from the playful menu of inspired snacks and plates, diners have the ability to customize their Recette experience.Continued

  • "Incredible food, good service and a really nice experience. Arriving at 5:50 for a 6 PM reservation got us the corner seat by the windows which was the best seat in the house. My guest and I each ordered the 7 course meal and we each received a different dish 5 out of the 7 courses (which didn't happen to the surrounding tables. Another reason to have dinner early). The whole experience took just over two hours. Money very well spent."

  • "This typically small, cozy village restaurant delivers dishes that are just so intense in flavors, I do not have the appropriate foodie vocabulary to describe it, other than it was great. I was directed to the Nori encrusted tuna (unbelievable), had the branzini (fabulous, but not quite the flavor explosion of the tuna) and the rhubarb 'cream pie' for dessert. I was not terribly hungry, but I probably would have had two more plates normally. They've opened a 2nd restaurant that I will have to try too."

  • "Soon after my friends and I arrived at our table, we were soon greeted by 3 glasses of prosecco on the house as a "welcome back". Service is always a perfect balance of getting what you want when you need it and leaving diners to their conversations. I often choose the 5 course tasting menu, which you can opt in certain dishes or opt out. Otherwise they craft a menu for the table, taking into consideration dietary restrictions, I.e., gluten-free. The tasting menus are excellent value for the quality of the food. One of my favorite restaurants in NYC for any occasion!"

  • "The spaghetti and truffle special was just awful!! Far too much of the truffles and sauce, overpowering the whole dish, and the smell was too much - really bad. Can't believe it was served like that actually. I also sat down for a drink at the small bar before being seated, waiting for my friend to arrive. No attention was paid by the bar staff, who seemed to be helping the waiters serve tables instead. I waited over 10 minutes to be served a cocktail, by which time my friend had arrived anyway. Overpriced for what it is - not a complete surprise since this is the heart of the West Village after all (candles and a faux European atmosphere/menu apparently justify any price). I won't be going back."

  • "Surprised my girlfriend with a birthday dinner here on a weekend in the city. Absolutely superb food & wine pairings, artfully crafted and presented. The atmosphere was quiet and intimate (on a Sunday night). Wonderful ambiance with street views out the large windows. Service was very good with knowledgeable, discrete servers. Definitely a high point to the weekend's stay. Would heartily recommend again."

  • "Seeing a lot of availability, we made a last minute res at 8:50 for 9:15pm. However, when we arrived, Recette was packed! Maybe they forgot to update OpenTable, not sure, but they said it'd only be a couple minutes. Although they were super nice, there wasn't even a seat at the bar for us to wait it out. Thankfully, they gave us a free round of drinks -- which we drank huddled in a corner until our table was finally ready 30 minutes later. We would have left, but I was already full of alcohol and ready to faint from starvation. I'm glad we stayed. The clam chowder alone was worth the wait, but they threw in a few extras because of our patience. Bonus!"

  • "Me and my partner booked in for a NYE dinner at Recette, before heading out. The restaurant was full and really buzzy, at times a bit loud. I really enjoyed the fact that a special menu was created for me as a Vegetarian, to replace the pre-set option. One of the chefs came out to speak to me in person, which was a lovely touch. There was only one waitress working during the service, which seemed crazy on a NYE. She was at times struggling to keep up. Overall, lovely experience but 4* rather than 5."

  • "Live a block away. Will never be back. Food was okay, runners kept bumping into my chair and even hit me on the head with a bread platter. No biggie. What is biggie: as our credit cards are on table waiting to be picked up, hostess comes over to say - with no tact or grace - that she "needs our table to make a 4-top." Huh? We did not have dessert or coffee; in other words, we did NOT linger. For over $350 for a dinner for 2, I find that behavior atrocious and inexcusable. Lucky for me there are plenty of good options in the neighborhood. Go to The Marrow instead. The food quality and service is far more fitting the high price point."

  • "I loved the food at Recette. Everything was delicious and the plates were small which was conducive to sharing and trying several items on the menu. However, it was VERY noisy and hard to hear one another on a saturday night. Additionally, we had a reservation and were forced to wait at the bar for over 20 minutes and were constantly getting bumped which was unpleasant."

  • "What a great little place! Like a lot of NYC and Village places, it's a bit crowded and the noise level is elevated, but the food and staff are great! Like small plate places everywhere, the menu does change up, but also gives you an opportunity to try new things. Everything we've tried has been spectacularly good, so in no way can this review be called a critique. We love this place, and don't worry if you walk in and can't get a table...the bar, in my estimation, is the BEST place to sit (especially if Tammy is on), plus you can watch the culinary staff at work which makes this spot dinner and a show. Even with a table reservation, we prefer the bar!"

Both myself and my boyfriend said that it was probably the best meal we had ever had. Each course was beautifully presented, unique and taste-wise beautiful ... I kept saying that the food was "doing something" to my mouth. Service was excellent, friendly and knowledgable, but relaxed and informal, which I tend to prefer. All in all, I'll be telling everyone about this great little NYC gem! Thanks."

  • "The uni pasta was very salty. Waiter/waitress never asked us how the food was, even after I asked for some hot water. I ordered a cheese plate, after I ran out of toast, I asked for more. The waitress took a long time and gave me a bun instead of toast. She was not attentive at all. At the end she asked how the food was, I said very salty but I added hot water already. She said sorry and she will tell the chef and that's pretty much all she did."

  • "Unfortunately, the size of this restaurant, and the number of tables crammed into a 12x12 room, ultimately contributed to an unsatisfying restaurant experience. with less than 6 inches between the two tops lining the room, it felt like we were sharing our table with two other couples. We were constantly shoved by the staff as they moved about the room; it's hard to enjoy a meal when your chair is being bumped every few minutes. The food was interesting, but ultimately too rich (pork belly with a ratio of 2/3 fate to 1/3 meat, spaghetti in a sauce of sea urchin overwhelmed by butter) and we felt stuffed but unsatisfied at the end of the evening. Prices were steep; over $250 for 5 small plates and 4 drinks didn't seem like a good value."

  • "We each had a 7 course tasting menu, which is overall a good deal for the quality of the food. But we each ordered a one special course (my husband ordered the foie gras and I ordered the truffled spaghetti) which had supplemental charges, and I was a bit shocked at how much the supplement was for each (almost $50 extra for the two supplements together.) The noise level in the restaurant was unpleasant, and it was very cramped. Nevertheless, the food was excellent, and I'd certainly consider returning, but would be more careful about ordering anything with a supplemental charge. I'd also try a weeknight in the hopes that it would be a bit quieter."
