A word from Reata Restaurant-Alpine
The original Reata Restaurant located in the scenic Davis Mountains of west Texas offers the same fine dining and Legendary Texas Cuisine you can find at the Fort Worth location. Alpine, home to Sul Ross State University is near Texas tourist destination Big Bend National Park and the towns of Marathon, Fort Davis and Lajitas. Alpine is also a short drive from Marfa, Texas renowned both for the mysterious Marfa Lights and Donald Judd's Chinati Foundation.

Reata, named after the legendary ranch in the James Dean classic movie, "Giant", which was filmed in nearby Marfa, boasts the same high quality Southwestern dining you can find in Fort Worth. This is not food for the faint of heart, from Chicken Fried Steak to Calf Fries or the Pepper Crusted Tenderloin and Cowboy Rib Eye Steak, this is a dining experience not to miss.

Diner Reviews
  • "A very up scale romantic dinning experience off the beaten path in a small west Texas town."

  • "Having read many reviews of this restaurant, we decided to try it and were not disappointed. We shared the calamari, a beautiful steak with potatoes and fresh pea pods. Every bite was perfection. The staff was friendly and warm, the waitstaff attentive. We were not rushed and enjoyed the loving dining room. Next time we will sit on the lovely outdoor patio in back. I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who visits Alpine."

  • "We had a fantastic experience at Reata. We loved the food so much the first time, we came back for a second dinner during our 4 day stay in Alpine. The jalapeño grits are heavenly. The citrus chicken and salmon were so good, our young daughters ate every bite. The service was outstanding, as well. We can't wait to come back to Alpine to eat here again!"

  • "My wife and four other friends were there last weekend. We dine there each time we go to Alpine for the weekend. As always it was excellent. Good food, nice atmosphere, and good service."

  • "The restaurant was great. Decor was interesting and appropriate for area. Our wait person was helpful and she was friendly. The food was great starting with the calf fries. I would recommend it to anyone traveling the Big Bend area. I liked it better than Ft Worth one."

  • "A West Texas gem. Stumbled onto the Ft. Worth location and loved it, had to try the Alpine Hq. and was not disappointed."

  • "This formally great spot is now veery average and overpriced. Muffins were stale. The spread(some kind of cheese I guess) was frozen solid. You could break it but you couldn't spread it. Chicken and black bean nachos very good. Fillet mignon tasteless though tender. My ribeye was fatty and not very good. Accompanied potatoes and green beans were a yawner. Reata, formally one of our favorite restaurants no longer warrants a detour to dine there."

  • "Wonderful, as always! Food is really good, and the folks who work there go out of their way to be truly helpful. Excellent guacamole, sinful onion rings, very good vegetable plate - and the carnivores were in heaven!"

  • "Nice spot, great service, so-so food. We ordered all of the signature dishes. Unfortunately they didn't have much flavor and were served barely warm."

  • "We really enjoyed our dinner. Service level was great!! I could not give more detail on the place. Our table was right in the entrance area. The chicken fried steak was excellent!! I will be returning and hoping to get to explore more of this place."

  • "Our last night in Alpine and what a great find in such a small town! We loved the cheese grits, the steaks and the wine. Can't go wrong with the basics!!"

  • "Everyone was raving about this restaurant when they found out I was visiting Alpine. Now I see why. The ambience is very warm and inviting. (There was a fireplace right next to the table, which was wonderful on a cold night!) The food was delicious and the dessert was amazing. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone. We were able to relax after a day of hiking the local parks, and did not feel rushed to leave like so many chain restaurants do so they can get more customers."

  • "I really want to like Reata, but it simply did not live up to my expectations. It very well could be the best restaurant in Alpine, and judging by the crowd, it seemed to be a beloved local eatery. Our criticisms on the food: The carne asada with enchiladas was good but the rice and beans were dull and tasteless. A more lively side dish - grilled vegetables? - would improve this offering. The chili rellenos were beautifully fried, but suffered from way too much cheese sauce inside. The service was a bit over-extended. The best part of the evening was that driving to Alpine for dinner from Marfa (25-minute drive) allows you to stop and experience the famous Marfa Lights on the way back."

  • "The Reata in Alpine is very good. If on vacation in the Alpine area it is a must stop for dinner. Located downtown with an excellent selection of items on the menu and a friendly wait staff."

  • "Staff poorly trained, timing of food delivery lousy, offer of wine service non existant.. Rushed service on a fairly quiet night. Main entrée arrived two minutes after salads/appitizers with no acknowledgement of timing error. Entrees pushed onto table regardless. Got up to ask another server if a wine list was available. Picked out a $100 bottle but waitress never inquired about our desire. Oh well, saved $100 plus tip. Second time to eat here with mediocre results. Thanks but, no thanks."

  • "This was my second time dining at this establishment. I made online reservations and they were honored promptly. The hostess and the waitress were all smiles and ready to accommodate. The food was excelent (I had the 14 oz. Ribeye) my wife had the Salmon. A must try are the jalapeno grits and bacon wrapped shrimp. For dessert we shared a piece of tres leches cake which was very good. I will definately go back a third time."

  • "Reata lives up to its good reputation---interesting, well-crafted food, Southwest atmosphere, great service. I had the tenderloin with port wine sauce. Our appetizer was roasted quail over a bed of cheese grits--outstanding. And our waitress was friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. Don't miss dining at the Reata if you're in Alpine."

  • "Everything was great from the time we arrived till we walked out. Our server was friendly and accomodating and the food was fantastic. No trip to the Alpine area would be complete without a trip to Reata."

  • "Dinner was delicious, food had a great presentation, great proportions. Bar drinks were great. Any questions about food our wonderful waitress Libby answered and her recommendation of the night special was also delicious. The carne asada plate is just right and bursting with flavor a little Mexican and Texas all together. Pecan pie for desert, you cant go wrong with Reata. Open table was great and hassle free reservation booking. Oh yeah, big thanks to Lesly for letting us have a sample of grits before ordering them! yummy grits."
