Diner Reviews
  • "I began a proposal here earlier this week and the staff (our waiter specifically) went ALL OUT to make sure everything worked out perfectly. Service was absolutely incredible! and the Yellowfin was delicious. Shanghai-style and very rare, would definitely recommend it!"

  • "The best seafood in the state. We love all the Mainstreet Venture restaurants in Ann Arbor"

  • "You can always count on classic items on the menu, great fish specials and creative inspired dishes from the chef. Service was great."

  • "Ordered Paella Valenciana and Lobster Bolognese which were both very salty. Lobster Bolognese was a huge disappointment. For $22.95, I was expecting a few good bites of lobster meat but there were just three quarter-sized meat apparently just from a claw, with the pointy ends. AND there were 3 baby shrimps mixed in there. I felt cheated since the description of the dish did not mention there would be mini shrimps imitating lobster meat. It's time for the restaurant to upgrade the ambience and utensils. I feel like I'm eating at a cafeteria. Have to give credit to the birthday policy of discounted food with free dessert. The Cream Brûlée was very good."

  • "The best Seafood in Michigan, great service and our out of town visitors love going there. Thanks"

  • "Large menu with excellent food. Able to cater to special dietary constraints. Service was fast despite the restaurant being very busy. It did not take long to be seated."

  • "Excellent seafood - the oysters are fantastic as were the mussels. Service was prompt and the atmosphere is very lively. Location on Main street is perfect for a stroll either before or after dinner. I would highly recommend this restaurant when visiting Ann Arbor."

  • "Asked for a romantic and peaceful table on web reservation. Ended up with a street side table and raining. My wife ordered the salmon, 8 oz covered about about 1/4 of the plate. Nice place but think it surviving on it location."

  • "been eating here for 30 years and it just seems to keep getting better."

  • "The food was pretty good but not outstanding. Still it's a good restaurant especially for fish!"
    Dined on 7/11/2014
  • "The crab cakes are as close to Maryland cakes cakes that I have found in the midwest. And since I am from Annapolis, MD I am pretty discriminatory when it comes to crab cakes!"

  • "Always great food and great service - one of our favorite places."

  • "The Food and service have gone downhill! I have been going to this place for well over 20 years. I do not think i will continue to go with some many new places in town."

  • "always great food and drinks! I love the bread! The ambiance is great for birthday dinners or date night"

  • "I'd like to make a special mention of the outstanding service, which added a special touch to the excellent food. We were a company of four, and our server was Doug M. He really made the evening very special for us."

  • "My wife and I went here on a Saturday for our Anniversary. We had been here about 2+ years ago. From what we can remember it was even better than before! Doug our server was great and very knowledgeable about the menu. Also the ambiance was great for a romantic night! Definitely would suggest as a highlight of Ann Arbor dining!"

  • "Have eaten at Real Seafood many times in the past few years. The ambiance is getting a bit dated and in need of a refresh. In addition, while three of four meals were very good, the forth meal was good a best - the crab cakes were very disappointing. The waitress more than made up for the bad meal though by offering free deserts. She was actually quite good. At the price we paid for four meals though, you would expect above average on all meals. Given some of the newly established restaurants in Ann Arbor, we may think twice before we return again."

  • "Loved it! Will definitely be back! This was our first experience here. My husband had paella, I had the blue plate special. Both were very good. We even decided to pair our meals with a bottle of wine. We are excited to return and try other entrees on the menu. The menu qas very unique, an ipad, with an extensive selection! Overall a great night!"

  • "This is one of the best seafood restaurants in the area. The food is outstanding. The service was first rate. This was a special occasion and they do not disappoint. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who enjoys seafood."

  • "We have been diners of Real Seafood for many years. While we don't live in Ann Arbor any more, sadly, we try to visit each time we are in the neighborhood. The food is always splendid and even with a full restaurant you can still have a conversation with any one. I always recommend making reservations as you never know what event might be going on in the downtown area."

  • "Once again we found excellent food and service in a great dining experience. We want to compliment the restaurant for it's continuous offering of great experiences each time we come to the restaurant. My date says the smell of the fresh bread just draws her into this restaurant. I enjoy the overall experience which continues to be consistent and top shelf."

  • "Real Seafood has been a favorite of our for 30 years. The sautéed whitefish is the perfect blend of flavors-succulent whitefish in white wine sauce with mushrooms, basil and dried Michigan cherries. I savor every bite! Chocolate mousse with a hint of brandy was the perfect ending to our meal. Service is always great! If you like seafood, this is the place to go in Ann Arbor."

  • "Made reservations for husband's birthday. They have an awesome birthday deal. The food was amazing and the service was the best I'd had. Clams and mussels as an appetizer were very good. Chilean sea bass blackened and scallops in blue cheese with bacon were out of this world. What a nice experience!"

  • "Has bee and continues to be the best seafood restaurant in Ann Arbor. Excellent wait staff and a very good menu, both for food and wines. When at full capacity a little noisy but tolerably so. Always leave saying I am looking already forward to the next time."
    Dined on 6/18/2014
  • "Our server was great. I was excited by the menu but the execution of the food, though prepared well, the flavors were underwhelming at best. I would rather eat at Mitchell's seafood. This is a shame as I prefer to not eat at a chain."

  • "The Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass was as fantastic as everyone said!"

  • "It's been a while since I have visited Real Seafood. I like the updated look of the restaurant. Food and drink were delicious and our service was fantastic. There were four in our group and everyone was satisfied. Two orders of the shrimp (lightly breaded), one scallop and one cioppinio. All were beautifully presented. The creme brulee was the finishing touch. One complaint: I made a reservation two weeks in advance and the restaurant was not crowded. Why were we shown a table at the rear of the restaurant?"

  • "I enjoyed a wonderful late lunch on father's day with my wife, son and daughter. No complaints whatsoever. Our server, I believe it was Matthew, was extremely knowledgeable about the wine and all the dishes on the menu, while also being very pleasantly energetic and connective. All of our entrees were cooked to perfection. My son who works at the Ann arbor chop house across the street attempted to use his employee discount and was told policy was to either make a reservation through his manager or to have a card signed by them as proof of employment, while this was disappointing the fault didn't lay with the restaurant, but rather with my son. No harm done though, I was thoroughly pleased with the entire dining experience."

  • "This was the 3rd visit to the Real Seafood Company and the service and food have always been excellent. It was really busy on Saturday night to the service was a little slower then normal...to be expected. Our only disappointment was the fact that they ran out of the whole fish my husband loves and 'the' reason we chose this restaurant for his Father's Day dinner. I can see running out of a special...but a regular item on your menu? Disappointing. We will be back but call ahead to make sure they have the fish before making the drive."

  • "We have eaten at Real Seafood dozens of times. It was very disappointing this time. The service was lacking in several ways, and the entrees were very disappointing. Salmon was overcooked and dry, stuffed flounder tasted like it wasn't seasoned at all. Extremely bland and boring."
    Dined on 6/14/2014
  • "Real Seafood is one of our favorites in a town with several excellent dining spots. A good menu of mostly seafood that is well prepared albiet a bit on the pricey side. There is a nice wine list. In warmer weather, there is both sidewalk and covered patio seating."

  • "We've been coming to Real Seafood for years, and we were very disappointed by our recent experience. Despite having a reservation, we had to wait 15 minutes for a table. Both hostesses were very unprofessional and rude (e.g., the one who sat us essentially barked at us to follow her). The tablecloth was covered in stains, making us wonder how clean the dishes and napkins were. One of us ordered broiled whitefish which arrived at room temperature. Despite having what appeared to be paprika on it, it was extremely bland. Another guest had swordfish, which he said was "okay, but nothing special." Finally, the restaurant was very loud and chaotic, so not good ambiance. The ONE positive was that our server was excellent (but overworked)."

  • "Service was exceptional. Crowd mostly seemed to be older people, but it was a little quieter because of it. Food was very good, particularly the dessert, which was one of the best I've ever had (dark chocolate bread pudding). Overall, a great experience."

  • "We have been dining at Real Seafood since it's beginning. It does not disappoint. If you want seafood it is the place to go. Not just in Ann Arbor but in all of south east Michigan."

  • "We celebrated my daughter's 16th birthday (note: don't forget ID to get free meal on birthday). Excellent food and good service. The scallops were great with the bleu cheese."

  • "A great place for a birthday meal, good food and service. Table we had was right next to service door with wait staff moving in and out. "

  • "Too loud and hard to have conversation. Food was good but nothing exceptional. I think it's overpriced. The rolls weren't fresh from the oven but flat and cold. Our waiter was very nice. "
