A word from Rayuela
Rayuela introduces the first-of-its kind Estilo Libre Latino (freestyle Latino) cuisine, which respects yet redefines Latin American and Spanish cuisines. While the basic structure of traditional dishes will be maintained, the actual ingredients may be unconventional and may come from over a dozen Latin American countries including Peru, Mexico, Cuba, Colombia, as well as Spain. Diner Reviews
  • "Fun Latin atmosphere, delicious food, great service, good drinks with knowledgeable bartender, friendly hostess with flexibility as our party was late and the size changed - just a wonderful overall experience. I will definitely return. Prices were not necessarily cheap, but quality and taste of food was worth it."

  • "Delicious food, and excellent ambiance. The music was a bit loud but they happily turned it down. Struggled a bit with service but I think they were short-staffed that night."

  • "Friendly service - much too noisy; music too loud, though we requested it to be lowered."

  • "Dinner here for my girlfriend's birthday made me look very good.. The food was amazing, cocktails interesting and great...and service couldn't have been better. It was refreshing aside from the attention how appreciative and nice everyone was from the bartender to the hostess, wait staff and busboys - thanking us for being there, telling us how much they hoped we enjoyed our meal, etc...felt genuine."

  • "Had a birthday dinner here on 3/15/14 and everyone had a great time. There were 13 of us who had the chef's tasting and another 6 who ordered from the regular menu. The food was spot on - even the foodies in the group were impressed. Our server Rodrigo was attentive to every detail and did so with a smile! Cesar and Dylan are the best bartenders ever! And Loyda and Jessica did an amazing job at helping me pull the event details together. Thank you all for treating my friends so well and for helping us start my birthday celebration with a fantastic meal in such a warm and inviting atmosphere. Looking forward to returning soon!"

  • "A friend and I went to Rayuela for mojitos and tapas before a show at Rockwood Music Hall. I hadn't been to Rayuela for a long time and was a bit concerned based on the negative reviews I read but perhaps those apply more to brunch? Service was quick and very friendly, we were welcomed by the hostess and then by the bartender, quickly had good strong drinks and were installed in a comfy banquette. The interior is gorgeous, soft lighting, cool bar, tree in the middle. We tried the seabass and mixed seafood ceviches, and "apertivos" tapas like plates of shrimp and chicken. When my husband showed up later by surprise the waiter managed to bring out his order at the same time as ours. It's a bit pricey but a great pre-show spot!"

  • "I went this past Friday to Rayuela for the last day of Restaurant Week, the ambiance was very modern and inviting. The food was even better, I normally hate ribeye but the one i had here wasn't fatty at all and tasted more like a fillet. I coconut shrimp ceviche was very good and coconutty and the dessert was tasty. Overall, I'd definitely comeback."

  • "My wife and I met here for lunch ( restaurant week) which is not normally something we can do because of work schedules. Overall, the food was moderate but the service was super slow. It took almost an hour to get our apps and another 30 minutes for main dishes. We had to ask them to bring deserts out with main meal and check otherwise we wouldv'e been late back to office. On a side note there was a group of maybe ten people and us, that's all. Atmosphere was nice and clean."

  • "I have eaten at Rayuela at least 5 or 6 times. The last two visits I found the wait staff not as proficient as in the past. Our group had to ask for bread, ground pepper, salt as well as milk for coffee at end of meal. The young man bussing the table was definitely out of the loop! On a previous visit our waiter was very indifferent and had an "attitude." However, when one in our party told the waiter her margarita was too strong he took it back and the bartender made her a new drink. As usual, the food was very good, especially the appetizers. I would have liked another fish selection other than salmon for an entree. I will go back bit hope the staff improves."

  • "Rayuela is a beautiful find in the east village and certainly worth a trip for their original adaptations on traditional Latin food. However don't go expecting great service. We went on a Sunday night and lets just say we weren't the only ones hung over from the night before . The wait staff was friendly but flippants and frequently forgot or made mistakes on our order. The worst part was that they just didn't seem to care. Regardless we weren't in a rush and were happy to wait for a new plate of guacamole or a late drink but be warned this place is not for those who get Frustrated easily,"

  • "I was looking for a good Latin fusion restaurant and was so excited when I chose and dined at Rayuela! The music, the food, the vibes, and the service was incredible. I especially loved the brunch. I will definitely come back again and plan on inviting all my friends!"

  • "I went to Rayuela for restaurant week, I can be anti-restaurant week when options are limited and not standing out to me as must tries (not the case at Rayuela!). We started by ordering a bottle of wine, they didn't have the one we wanted so our server gave us another option, which was fine. We started with the guac to share which was tasty and the other appetizers were all great, butternut squash soup, gambas al agillo, and the ceviche, delicious! For entrees, we had salmon and steak, both were very good, we cleared our plates. Our dessert was 'buddin' which was fine, nothing to write home about, but we were all full already, we'll be back!"

  • "Made a 5:30pm reservation here because we were going to a painting class down the block. Got there a few minutes before 5:30pm and there was no one in sight. Even after 5:30pm came and we were seated, they were still preparing the restaurant to open. Because of this food took a while to come and we were late for our 7pm class. The place was empty for a while until one other couple showed up. They seemed to have a few larger parties starting at 7pm though. Food overall was tasty - ate off the restaurant week menu. Service was decent even though they were still opening. I would give them another try.......but after 6pm!"

  • "As delicious as our meals were, nothing compares to the amazing staff who made our meal extra special. Our waiter, Victor, made sure our glasses were never empty (we took part in the $15 for 2 hrs. sangria special). Loyda (General Manager) came over and could not have been nicer or more generous (we were celebrating an engagement). The best part of all is we were never rushed. Rayuela is truly a neighborhood gem. Take advantage of visiting them (especially during Restaurant Week). You'll keep going back again & again. I know we will."

  • "My boyfriend and I dined here during lunch on a weekday for Restaurant week. The restaurant was empty but we loved it! Our waiter was incredibly friendly and helpful and we got his full attention. Loved the bread at the beginning, and the butternut soup was delicious. We ordered the fish and the steak off the menu and we were happy with both. The restaurant has such a wonderful atmosphere. We will definitely come back on an evening soon for drinks and some more of that bread!"

  • "I've visited this restaurant on 3 occassions. Each visit I hope that the kinks in service have been worked out, but no such luck. I keep going back because the food is very good but the service is always a let down. The wait staff takes a long time to bring water to the table, the entres arrive before you are done with the appetizers and they've not been able to provide coat check because the coat check is too full. On one occassions, I made a reservation, spent 25 minutes looking for parking and when I arrived I was informed that they were overbooked. If the service were as good as the food, this would be a favorite."

  • "The waiter was training a new waiter. We asked the waiter about an ingredient listed on the menu what it was and he didn't even know. He said he would be right back and find out. That is horrible, the staff must be pre-shifted prior to their shift to review the menu and all the ingredients. It was delayed service. They definitely need to hire more people, the waiter we had; had the entire first floor and he couldn't handle. There was a lady that was the manager, she definitely should have been helping out more with the tables. Its important to be hands on especially when the restaurant was packed."

  • "The menu was updated from the last time I went, unfortunately it was not for the better. Favorite dishes were removed and the. Es ones just did not compare. The menu was smaller too. The food was good but not up to the expectations on Rayuela, I was disappointed to get a chartted pork, the burnt taste just overtook all other flavores."

  • "Re: Rayuela's Valentine's Day dinner. The food was overall very good, but the restaurant's service was incredibly disorganized and slow for the pre fixe Vday special. It took ~15 minutes just to check in, there was a huge bottleneck of guests waiting for a table at the front of the restaurant. It took a very long time for each of our courses to come. Our waiter was not very attentive and we waited at least 45 minutes in between our appetizers and entree. We had a ~7 pm reservation but with the waiting for a table and the slow service, didn't finish our dinner til about 10:15. They also advertised the meal as 4 course, but it was really 3 course with a tiny amuse before the appetizer. Would NOT recommend for a pre fixe meal."

  • "All I can say is the food was wonderful, but the service was sub par. Albeit it was Valentines day and became quite busy as the night progressed. Still, the service seemed to stay at the same dismissible level no matter the amount of patrons. From the host, the server to the coat check, it all seemed under prepared and disheveled. Thankfully the food was excellent and the one factor that kept the night afloat."

  • "I met a friend for the bottomless brunch on Saturday. I was over an hour late and ended up sitting at the bar, although there were tables open. The bartenders were great...friendly, engaging and attentive. I tried all three flavors of Sangria. I liked the Guava best but they were all delicious. I ordered the chicken sandwich off the brunch menu and it came quickly and tasted great. I would definitely go back."

  • "Came here for a 30th birthday party for group of 5. We had a reservation at 8:30, and arrived 10 minutes late, but still were not seated until 9:30. Our table was upstairs and perfect for the occasion as we had curtains separating us from the other diners. Food was excellent - everything we ordered was outstanding. The main drawback was the slow service and one rude waitstaff. Our waiter was friendly, but another server helping was rude. Our drinks were slow to arrive, and we didn't leave until after midnight, spending at least 15 minutes waiting for our check at the end. I would still recommend the location because the food and ambience were so notable, but be prepared for a lengthy dinner."

  • "My wife and I at here because we had an event not far away later in the evening. It is not often that we get excited, surprised and impressed with a restaurant. This is one the best finds in the past 5 years. Wonderfully creative, tasty and well-presented food. The cocktails were fun and original. Although it was a bit early and the restaurant wasn't very full, the wait-staff were great! The décor and the music complement the food. We will definitely be back!"

  • "my only complaint was how absolutely cold it was on the lower level of the dining hall. I was wearing my jacket at the table which wasn't comfortable. I think i would have enjoyed my food (which was great) and my sangria if it wasn't freezing. The upper level seemed warm and toasty, so not sure if there was some type of problem that say with the heat on the first floor."

  • "limited menu; choices and food used to be much better; unbearably loud awful music; we were very disappointed and while we have eaten here more than 10 times in the past, few years and considered this one of our favorite restaurants, we will not return"

  • "Came here for a surprise for my partner and couldn't have been any better! She was impressed by the decor and the lighting which gave the restaurant a very expensive but cosy feel and didn't feel protentious etc. We chose the 5 part taster menu which was really good, we even got fillet steak, which was cooked perfectly, as one of the courses. If you're in the area, I would highly recommend you go here! Lovely staff, excellent food and lovely restaurant... very romantic too if you're looking for that."

  • "Really pretty place. I read that service was poor but our waiter was pretty good. The only thing I did not rlenjoybwascthec3 tasting ceviche. It was rather small in portion and not as tasty. Would not get it again. My halibut entre was delicious. The little cake for desert was not tasty. Overall good but would not go back again. I was there once before and the food in general tasted different."
