  • "The hostess was NOT welcoming (she appeared annoyed and did not even say hello), the room was dark, and we did not have any view other than the kitchen. The waiter was excellent (from your Alpharetta location). The food was just ok. The blackened salmon had a burnt taste instead of a blackened seasoning taste and the scallops were greasy and tasted like they were cooked in old oil. We are from NY and have high expectations. This meal did not live up to those."

  • "After a disappointing experience a few years ago, we decided to give Ray's another try. Good decision! Friday night birthday dinner was just terrific. We were seated quickly (had reservation) and service was attentive. Menu choices are not exotic and prices reasonable, just our speed. Chicken Andouille soup, Parmesan Scallops and Salmon Oscar were all well prepared and presented. Praline dessert was extra elegant and tasty. This place is classic and classy, without the snooty pretense found so often around town. We love it and will be back soon. Don't change a thing."

  • "My first time at Ray's. The river setting is great however only 1 of us could eat facing the river.(Not sure what the protocal is for getting the better tables on the main floor where the great view is) The service was spot on an attentive and the general feel of the place was great. My only negative (and its a pretty big one) was the food. We started with the calamari which was the best dish of the evening. salty, but with bits of jalapeno that gave it the perfect bite. I had the shrimp and grits and my husband had the blackened salmon. Both rather on the bland side with my grits too al dente. We had the flan for desert and once again just kinda ...meh. Not very flavorful."

  • "well I admit it has been quite some time since I've dined at rays on the river, I have to say that things have changed and not for the better. Service was fair to good, my wife scallops first came out over cooked and to salty and second time just simply too salty. My lobster was fine, but less than stellar. So in short I don't see us returning anytime soon..... the calamari and raw clams were good.... btw. ... it was our 20th wedding anniversary as well"

  • "I visit Atlanta at least 4 times a year and 2 out of the 4, I am trying to make it to this place. Boy was I glad I did this time. From the time I pulled into the parking lot, until the time I pulled out, I enjoyed myself. Will definitely visit again."

  • "Ordered a WELL DONE steak and it wasn't!! Sent it back and when I got it back, it was burned! It was like taking a bite out of charcoal! Very disappointed! My husbands lobster was dry! The server was nice though! Wine was great!"

  • "We had dinner in the early afternoon before the crowd. The service was outstanding. The service provider was friendly, polite, and attentive. The food was plentiful and well presented. We all enjoyed the evening from my six year old grandson to my 75 year old sister-in-law. I have already recommended it to a friend for his 20th wedding anniversary next month."

  • "By in large, we enjoyed the Sunday brunch at Ray's. We arrived early and were seated by the window with that wonderful view. The service, for the most part, was cordial and attentive. Despite assurances to the contrary, we did feel a bit rushed to leave when we received the bill before we had obviously finished eating. Most of the buffet items we tried were quite good, but some seemed either stale or just so-so. The standouts were the gumbo, the shrimp salad and the beef ragout. The mini quiches and the corned beef hash seemed particularly stale. The cold crab claws and the mussels were pretty flavorless. The croissants also seemed stale. The best desserts were the carrot cake and, surprisingly, the chocolate chip cookies."

  • "My husband and I do not often enjoy fine dining, but do like to enjoy it as a treat on occasion. Ray's on the River was suggested by a friend, as a good date night spot. After trying it, I will have to agree.... GREAT date night spot. The atmosphere was nice, but not extremely fancy, which made for a more comfortable evening. We made a reservation, and were seated in the back of the restaurant along the glass windows looking out onto the Chattahoochee River - just lovely! The wait staff was very pleasant and respectful, considering we took our time deciding as first timers! ;-) I enjoyed a wonderful glass of wine from their huge wine list, and ordered a 6oz. filet.... Best steak I have ever eaten!! I give them 5 stars!!!"

  • "Not awful, but not great either. Pacific salmon special was bland (at $40). Maine lobster special was a good deal at $25, but overcooked and presented with just one slit -- tough and messy to dismantle. Crab bisque, mashed potatoes (side w/lobster) and the bread were the best items of the night. Caution: Ordered a bottle of wine which was out. Instead of offering a substitute at the same price, server tried to sell us a different varietal, and we had to ask to learn it was $22 more."

  • "Was expecting much more from one of Atlanta's so called top restaurants. Our table wasn't ready at the time we had booked and we had to wait around for 15-20 minutes before it was with no hint of an apology for the delay. The food was average at best but it was the service that was most disappointing and not at all attentive. All in all a disappointing experience."

  • "The valet was top notch. The hostess had an attitude. Our waiter gave everyone else around us bread. We ordered two appetizers which were very good, house smoked salmon and oysters. We waited forever for dinner. The grilled tuna came out cold but the broiled seafood platter was good. Overall I feel like we wasted $260. I would try someplace else next time."

The view from outside was beautiful and it was quiet and peaceful aside from the sound of the cars but you zone that out eventually. The service was excellent except at the very start. After we were seated they took unusually long to ask for what drinks we wanted. Other than that it was a great experience."

  • "We ate at Ray's on a recent visit to Atlanta. Have heard of Ray's for years and finally had opportunity to try it. I would say the atmosphere is nice, the service is good and the food is just okay for the price charged. I eat in lots of high end restaurants & am not unaccustomed to paying well for a great quality meal. I found the food to be more mediocre than exceptional for the price charged. I've had much better filets at Ruth's Chris. Our service staff was excellent at first but as the evening wore on, we were a little neglected on the glass filling and had to wave them down. I may try the seafood on a future visit to see if that is where the hype lies before completely abandoning this restaurant due to the price vs yummy ratio."

  • "I went for the lobster special that I received notice via email. Although I made reservations, we decided to sit in the bar area. The bartender waited on us and is actually the head bartender for all of the Ray's restaurants, so he creates new and different drinks. My dining companion tried one of his drink specials that contained made from scratch watermelon juice and a lemon lime drink; I was told it was very refreshing. The lobster was whole and the choice of sides was either green beans or mashed potatoes. I got the mashed potatoes and they were outstanding, so smooth and creamy. Although they were delicious the one thing that would be nice is if we had more side choices to go with the lobster."

  • "Went to Ray's for my birthday and had a less than stellar time. The person who took us to our table had no personality and simply walked ahead of us and placed menus on a table (we had to assume it was ours). She was gone before we sat down so that got us off to a bad start. Then it was over 10 minutes before we were greeted by anyone else or at least offered water so it was now going to be a long uphill battle to make us feel better. From then on things got better. Our eventual waiter was very good and our meals were very good. Even after my free birthday dessert there was still that sense of disappointment that started with not being made to feel welcome and no manager to be seen the whole time we were there - another letdown."

  • "Nice place but the food was a big disappointment. The dry aged bone in strip steak was flavorless yet highly recommended by the staff. The creamed spinach tasted like flour and so did the creamed corn. A crab cake appetizer was also a disappointment A broiled Maine lobster tail was plain, a little dry and over cooked. Service was mediocre. One would expect better when the establishment was only 20% filled. I had to stop the server who was attempting to recite a pile of information and ask him to get our cocktails before continuing his speech. It is a common yet rude practice when the busboy clears one guests plates while others are still eating. Skip walking the garden by the river unless you're wearing boots, it was wet and muddy."

  • "We choose to stop in for brunch after church. The quantity and quality of food, desserts and salads was impressive. Our wait staff was attentive, one more than the other. One person in our party would have preferred to order a la cart, but the brunch was the only option. A few suggestions: include juices as part of the brunch buffet. At more than $30 per person, I think offering juice wouldn't be that big of an impact. Also, please indicate the price of your buffet on the menu. We paid $75 for 2 patrons, not including tip for what we thought was an "after church meal". So we'll return, but only for special occasions. The price was a bit too high for a regular choice."

  • "I am a frequent restaurant diner but Rays had fallen off the map for me for about 10 years. Ate at Rays a couple months ago as a guest and had a very good experience. Based on that experience, I took the family back for a second try and I am sorry to say it was not too good. Service was really, really slow and disjointed (others food brought to our table, etc.. although our server was quite pleasant), the food was mediocre - Copper River salmon was overcooked and "mealy" in texture (at $45), the sea bass was undercooked (looked like rare tuna); and the salads also average. Really disappointed to spend nearly $300 with tip (for four) and have this experience. I don't really know what to think of this restaurant at this point"
