Our table was sticky on the edges. I put my hand on the back of the chair to pull it out and it was coated with dry food residue. Went to the bathroom to wash my hand. Switched chairs and sat down. Put my hands on the seat-side of the second chair to scoot toward the table and came away with food residue again. Yuck. Makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is. The bar processed my credit card at at $73 for a beer and a club soda. The charge was corrected but I wasn't given a copy of the voided charge nor of the actual itemized bill. The view was nice.

Spectacular view from out on the deck. Food was fine, but not worth $165 for lunch for four people. Service was spectacularly slow. It shouldn't take an hour to get your food on a Monday when your order is in to the kitchen 35 min after the restaurant opens. Lunch diners often need to get back to work, or off to their next event. Our server disappeared for long stretches at a time. Not recommended.

Perfect place for our reunion with friends we hadn't seen in 20 years! Our party of 9 was seated on time. The staff was very accommodating as they were busy that evening and the kitchen was doing their best to keep up with the crowd. It took an extended length of time for our main entrees to arrive. Food was delicious. We were enjoying our friends so we weren't particularly bothered with the delay. The staff made up for it by buying us a bottle or two of spirits. The staff is wonderful and very considerate. We were the last to leave! I will definitely go to Ray's Café again and again!

A waste of a good view and location. Food was mediocre. Service was rushed, even on a Monday night, and wait staff didn't even know what cocktail sauce is (this is a fish restaurant, right?). Prices were outrageous considering the average food quality. Presentation was worthy of Denny's. Save your money and eat at Anthony's next door.

I was very disappointed with my lunch selection of the mixed berry salad. The spring mix greens were wilted, old, not fresh at all. Everyone was taken aback at how badly the salad greens were...how could your cooks even think of serving such old, mushy greens, not just at your prices, but at any price. Not acceptable. Also, there was an obvious hint of body odor as the young woman reached over to clear a plate.

We went during sunset and it was a stunning view. My Cesar salad isn't taste like it had much dressing but my boyfriend said hi salmon was fantastic. They apologized for the kitchen being backed up and bought us drinks, which was really nice. The only downfall is if you need a cab. They are hard to come by. The staff will call for them but other people may take your cab.

Great place for lunch on a sunny day. The patio overlooks the water and is full of paddle boarders. Lots to see and be entertained by especially if you have kids. The seating on TBD the patio is limited and there are no reservations for it. We got there by noon and was able to get a patio table on a Friday. Our food was good and our waitress was nice.

While the view is spectacular, the food, service, and noise level canceled out the scenic quality. Following a long wait, our appetizers and salads came after our entrees were served, along with an inadequate excuse from the server. The kicker was when the server announced that he was discounted two cookies from the 5-person meal cost as compensation -- too little, too late.

We live in Seattle in the Ballard neighborhood, so both Ray's restaurants are favorites. However, there is an ongoing problem with service. Our server was very sweet, but it was awkward at times. Our order got lost and re had to start over...coffee and dessert took forever. We were fortunate in that we were having a very laid back dinner with no time restrictions. However, when the tab is close to $200, you really walk away happier if you feel like you received an excellent all-around experience, rather than a so-so one. On the other hand, we were seated outside and the view (and warm blankets) were amazing.

Thank you for asking. I considered contacting you but decided not to comment until you contacted us. Being that our party of five (inc my 95 yr old m-in law) were born/raised in Ballard ,we have had many enjoyable meals at Ray's over the years. That is why we were all disappointed in what we all considered a mediocre experience. ... . Definitely not "bad" but certainly not what we experienced in the past. Most disappointing was the seafood salad....the clams and scallops had strong taste (not fresh). As it was very busy that night, perhaps the kitchen staff just had an "off" night. Hopefully, our next experience will be better. Best regards, Bryson Chambers

A perennial favorite on a sunny summer evening when the breeze is warm and gentle and you have your sunglasses on hand. We were fortunate to capture a table on the deck above the water and in the sunshine. The service, as per usual, was phenomenal and always so attentive (and understanding in this case as one in our party was nearly an hour late). The food was very good, a little bland this time round and I think there is the possibility to really have the seafood shine given the location, season and availability of good selection... just saying. ... again, kudos to Ray's amazing staff... from valet attendants to the hosts and servers... a fabulous crew!

I was thrilled to see "half portions" listed on the website menu, but when we arrived, the menu given to us did not have the smaller portion fare offered. After dinner I returned to the website but saw no mention of when the half portion was NOT offered. It appears that only if you know that the Boathouse has a different menu than the Cafe, do you see the light portions.

Gorgeous view. Went earlier than reservation, as recommended, to put in request for outside table. Waited only about 30-40 minutes, which we passed pleasantly at the downstairs bar. Food was good. Seafood salad was very good and a good size for sharing. Entrees were samll servings and veggies were a la carte so pricey. Halibut was good. Scallops were overpowered by hot seasoning. Waiter was a bit spacey but he tried hard. Overall a very pleasant evening.

We had reservations for Saturday at 8:15. We arrived 1/2 hour early to try for deck seating. Turned out, the wait for the deck was ~ an hour, so we took pictures of the sunset from outside the restaurant, then took inside seating, but still with a great view. The atmosphere was relaxed, but noisy (had a hard time hearing the waitress). We ordered wine, which took a long time coming (apparently happy hour starts at 9:00, and the bar gets crazy busy), but the waitress comped the wine, which made up for the delay. The food was great! The berry salad was delicious. I had steak with crab added, and the sauce was so good I had to restrain myself from licking the plate... All in all, it was an excellent and most memorable evening.

I wanted to go to the boathouse itself but they were booked so I made reservations at the boathouse cafe - big mistake. As soon as we got in it sounded like a sounders game - LOUD. The waitress apologized, saying the Cafe was "family friendly". The was a table available with an excellent view if you were wearing earplugs. The waitress found us a table that was relatively quiet (no view but at least earplugs weren't mandatory). The waiter let us know that the kitchen was a little bit backed up but we found the wait wasn't that long. The dinner was pretty good, probably was very good but for the noise. Pricey? I wouldn't think so for Ray's Boathouse, but very pricey for a "family friendly" cafe.

We hadn't been to Ray's for a few years, mostly because we don't like to fight Seattle traffic to get there and it has gotten pretty expensive. My son and his wife gave us a gift certificate for Rays for Christmas this year and we had a wonderful evening celebrating my birthday there. Ate upstairs in the Cafe both because it is more casual and the menu and price suited us better than the downstairs dining room. Service and food were both lovely....we were well attended to without being interrupted often while we talked and ate.

Food was edible/average, but the view on a nice evening is spectacular. Enjoyed the outdoor dining. Anyone sensitive to sun should bring good sunscreen or they may have to find a spot at the back of the restaurant. There are no umbrellas or shade opportunities on the deck, and the sun shines directly onto the outdoor patio as well as the inside tables adjacent to the patio.

We were there for a beautiful summer outdoor dining experience and Rays is perfect for that. Great service. Although they are famous for their seafood, we found that it was ok, but not as fabulous as the hype led us to believe. Some things, like the sablefish was fantastic, salmon, not so much. Still, we would go back for the view and the convivial deck.

Our salads arrived promptly, but our entrees arrived over an hour later, with lots of apologies but no explanation other than 'it's our busy time of night' in spite of the cafe being half empty. Two entrees we're overdone as though they'd been waiting a while under a heat lamp, and one was underdone. On par for maybe hotel food, but way overpriced for what we got. Nothing comped for our wait. My mom had wanted to take us somewhere nice, but she left feeling disappointed in our experience. Great view though.

This was my first time here and I have to say for the most part I was pleased. That being said, their reservation system needs to be changed. In order to sit on the outside deck, you have to make reservations for the inside and then show up about an hour before you want to eat and get on a wait list for the deck. It's horrible. We waited about 1.5 hours for the deck. I showed up 1 hour before our reservation time too. I really enjoyed the food and the view, but we spent a few hundred dollars and I think waiting that long for a table is not okay. They need to have reservable tables for the outside and people should NOT have to wait more than 15 minutes when they show up for their outside table. I am hesitant to even return based on this.
