A word from Ray's Cafe
Ray's Cafe is the perfect vantage point for savoring our postcard view of Puget Sound with a micro brew in hand and a bowl of clams. The Cafe features a casual and lively atmosphere and a wide range of menu options. Open for lunch and dinner every day, the Cafe is the perfect place for kicking back and relaxing.
Our outdoor deck is the place to be for sunny day dining (Please note that we do not take reservations for our outdoor deck seating). Is it a typical grey Seattle day? Cozy up near one of our two stone fireplaces and you'll soon forget about the chilly weather outside.

Please note as of March 1 we are no longer accepting the Passport Card, instead we will be implementing our own loyalty card program. Feel free to ask us for details!

  • "Food was just ok...... Waitress would disappear and not come back for several minutes. In all fairness she was training though. There also seemed to be a lot of standing around by staff when people at tables required assistance. I saw this to be the case a few times including at my table. I spent a good chunk of change at rays and for what I got I was disappointed. I would try it again to see if they just happen to be off their game that day but not on my dime."

  • "The views were great from the deck while waiting for our table. Our table ended up being not far from the bar area - which was way too loud. Everyone at tables around us was speaking with raised voices to be heard as were we. Perhaps a glass wall or partition of some sort would have reduced the noise for diners without reducing the lively feel of the bar. The service was slow but the place was packed. The staff were very friendly and polite which is always worth an extra star in itself. The food however was a little disappointing. It wasn't bad by any stretch - just good. I guess I had my expectations a little higher. If I was to come back, I would choose a quieter or less busy time and/or insist on a table farthest from the bar."

  • "The food and service are consistently good here, and the view is excellent. However, we were not expecting the dining room to be full of hyper, screaming children running around when we arrived at 7:30 on a Sunday night. Perhaps there are fewer young children on other nights, perhaps some nights the parents control their children better, but we found the food and ambience somewhat spoiled by the continuous screaming and one young child actually coming over and joining us at our table uninvited."

  • "We had mussels in Thai curry broth, the PoBoy shrimp sandwich with fries, and Pear sorbet. Couldn't have been better. Brought half the sandwich home and enjoyed it the next day. It was a rainy day so didn't eat outdoors. There was also a tour present so restaurant was very crowded. None the less had great service. Glad we had a reservation."

  • "As always, the food was very good. Our waiter was friendly and helpful. This was a very special lunch for a dear friend of mine that was turning 80. I made the reservation a few weeks in advance, noted the occasion on the reservation and requested a window table. I was really disappointed that we were not seated at a window. It took some "special-ness" out of the occasion."

  • "Went to Ray's for Dine Around Seattle lunch. They were very busy on a day the sun was out after rainy days. All taste good as expected of Ray's except the chicken was overcooked (my wife's selection). This is a rarity probably due to kitchen being overwhelmed. We still enjoyed it very much."

  • "We made reservations, but still didn't get seated on time, and were stuck at a dark table in the back of the restaurant. Since the point of going to the cafe on a sunny afternoon is to see the sun set, this was disappointing. While the service was good, the scallops were really over cooked. The hostess was barely out of her teens, and did not make a great first impression."

  • "Highly disappointed in the food eaten at the cafe upstairs. I've eaten at the restaurant downstairs and had much better good."

  • "Best clam chowder in town. Also a great view of the Sound."

  • "Ray's has been around for a long time. I like the atmosphere in the Cafe better than the main restaurant. The food is good & its a great place to go celebrate. The view is amazing in the summer but with a fire burning in the spring its pretty cozy."

  • "When we arrived our reserved seat was right next to the window with a great view of the water. It was in the corner and quiet. Our server had great service and she was really nice. The food was great. Hope you like seafood, my wife doesn't and had the burger which was still good. The seven layer devil's good cake for dessert with Espresso on ice cream really topped it off!"

  • "They didn't have an issue accommodating our group of 8. It was also Dine Around Seattle, and we did not have any trouble securing a reservation. We were seated promptly, our server was attentive."

  • "It was very crowded for lunch, so we had a seat in the bar. Our food was good - I had the soup and salad combo - my husband had the salmon sandwich. I'm only saying "good" because of the sandwich, which had bones left in the salmon. We love the atmosphere of Ray's Café and you can't beat the view!"

  • "Nice atmosphere with high ceilings and exposed beams. Menu is not too big, but has several good choices, seafood highlights as you'd guess but some other good options too. Nice beer selection, friendly service. I had seafood and polenta and really liked it. Looking forward to coming back when the weather is better to sit on the deck! And the burgers look great, gotta try one of those next time."

  • "The clam chowder and sandwich combo during lunch was fantastic, but we found the portions for the crab cake sliders to leave something to be desired. There was little crab relative to the size of the sliders (there were only two), and the sliders had too much bread for the amount of crab. The service -- perhaps because we were there an hour or so before closing -- was pretty bad, which was surprising given the reviews we read prior to making our reservation. When our food was brought out, a dish was missing. After ~10 minutes -- we had finished the food and ran out of water -- the waitress finally checked in and brought out the remaining dish (this is when we were about to check out). No apologies, still charged for the dish. :("

  • "I've been to the restaurant before & I've never been disappointed so, with some guests in tow, I thought we would try the cafe. First the good: the menu was not as extensive but that's fine; I wasn't expecting it to be as broad & it still had enough variety. My starter of Ahi tuna was good, my main of sablefish was absolutely delicious. Perfectly cooked & seasoned, it's definitely worth a try. A couple of things spoilt it for us a little. Two of my friends had the oysters to start & were both suffering from a poorly tummy the next morning. Obviously, we don't know for sure if it was the oysters but... They also tried to bring out our entrees before we had even finished our starters. We ended up feeling rushed out and it was only 7.30"

  • "The restaurant itself was beautiful. We sat at the window over-looking the water, about 6 feet away from the gas fireplace and loved the location. Our waitress was ok. She was timely with taking the orders, but was short with us when we had questions, as if she was too busy to be bothered, and didn't check in with us until the bill was ready. My meal was average, but my girlfriend has the salmon and really liked it. I would rate this restaurant as average service, decent food and a great view. Depends on what matters to you most."

  • "Ray's Cafe never fails. The food, wait staff, the type of people who go to Ray's--we're strangers who all enjoy the dependable experience of Ray's dining. The Cafe's more casual and cozy ambiance gives its customers more room to laugh and be expressive and visibly enjoy themselves. My grilled wild Alaskan coho salmon was perfectly perfectly cooked--as usual--translucent and silkly but with enough firmness to bring out the flavor even more. These people run a classy joint. Why go anywhere else in north Seattle?Top notch."

  • "We setup an advance reservation and arrived on time. There was an available window table indicated to us to be reserved for others and we were instead guided to a table near the very energetic Kitchen. Anyway, instead decided to wait at the bar for a better table which was then available in 15 minutes. Once seated at a very nice window table, our meal and service were Great!"

  • "I have been to Ray's many times and overall have been very impressed. This past Valentine's day lunch was not one of those days. The service was not good the waiter seemed nervous and inattentive. the bouillabaise was OK but I am used to really great flavors from Ray's cafe. the view as always was great as was the relaxed atmosphere. I will of course go again but order something else like the halibut or salmon or fish tacos. all of which I have had before and really enjoyed. Their mocktail with the habanero lime was great as was the flourless brownie though it could have had a bit more raspberry coulee."

  • "Rays was phenomenal! The view was down right amazing had a 5:30 reservation on valentines day so it was perfect to see the sunset! The calamari was perfect, my girlfriend had the steak with mashed potatoes that was outstanding, but when it came to my meal the Alaskan Salmon i was a little disappointed. Under cooked fish, awful sides brussle sprouts and flavorless potatoes."

  • "Ray's Café is unbeatable -- you will love it. You can make reservations online and I recommend it. If you desire a table by the window, book your reservation when the restaurant opens or when it is least busy. The view alone will be worth your visit to the restaurant. The service is some of the best in town. I frequently visit the restaurant and I have never once been disappointed with anything I have ordered. This is one of the most popular restaurants in the Pacific Northwest."

  • "Living out of the area it had been a VERY long time since dining here. Chose it for adult daughter's birthday lunch because it was convenient for people coming from north and south. Service was very good, attentive and timely. Our water was always filled and the courses followed each other well. Everyone enjoyed their various dishes (salads, soups, sandwiches or entrees). Even the birthday dessert was good and accompanied by requisite lit candle. The restaurant indulged us for 3 hours while we caught up with each other and reminisced. Altogether a good time had by all. Thank you."

  • "Nobody came to our table after being seated. Finally, when we got the waitress she had no clue how to answer menu questions. The food came and it was not good. The seafood was all frozen nothing fresh. Then to ruin the meal the wait staff kept on squeezing through a very small opening which was behind my seat and kept on bumping me the whole entire meal. There was plenty of other opening for the staff to walk but everyone was lazy to make it around."

  • "I've been going to rays for years but not sure ill be back. it took over an hour for our food to arrive. there was not enough waitstaff to accommodate a full restaurant on a weeknight. just overall a blah experience."

  • "The café portion of the restaurant perched above with a beautiful view of the entryway to the Locks. Service was excellent and food was award winning. Clam appetizer was just right, chowder was the best."

  • "The restaurant was extremely busy and very loud. The food was good, but one option (fish and chips) was not available, much to our disappointment.. I would certainly go back a second time."

  • "Second time we have been to Ray's Cafe. First was on a Thursday night and it was very quiet but comfortable. We met friends and ate from the main menu but seated in the bar. Wine selection was good and food was great. I enjoyed the scallops and the blue cheese and pear salad. Excellent. Second dinner I had the rockfish - very spicy, just the way I like it. Same salad. Husband had the chicken fettuccine as did another in our group. The last person had the steak. It was a bit tough. I wouldn't order that based on how it looked and how hard it was to cut. For dessert we shared a pear/apple crisp - absolutely delicious! Our server was very attentive - just the right amount of attention. The place was packed as this was a Saturday night."

  • "Delicious seafood food as always, except for their cole slaw, which was very bland and lacked flavor."

  • "Great atmosphere and view! Menu upstairs leaves a lot to be desired which was a surprise this year. Food ok and service ok but took a long time for waiter to remove items from table."

  • "Food was great, but I was a little surprised at the spotty service. It was busy as usual, but the staff seemed overwhelmed. Too few servers for the Saturday crowd?"
