Our outdoor deck is the place to be for sunny day dining (Please note that we do not take reservations for our outdoor deck seating). Is it a typical grey Seattle day? Cozy up near one of our two stone fireplaces and you'll soon forget about the chilly weather outside.

Ray's Cafe is the less expensive of the two Ray's restaurants right on the water in West Seattle. You know you are there for the view, because the food is good, not great, in a town where there's plenty of great. The seats outside offer unimpeded views of the sunset but bring your sunglasses with you because on a sunny Seattle Day you will even need them inside. The menu has plenty of seafood and fish and a few non-fish items. The wine list is excellent, many choices by the glass or even 1/2 bottle. The desserts include a fresh flavor of the day each day, and are wonderful.

I have two complaints about Ray's Café, and the first one is serious. I'm a vegetarian, and I really have only one entrée that I can order. I don't know if Ray's offers a veggie burger substitute for its hamburger, but I'll be glad to send a recipe if it does not. Anyway, things have improved since our first visit in 2001, and I appreciate the progress. I give Ray's a top rating because everyone in my family loves Ray's and its seafood. My wife is addicted to the crab cakes, and I am afraid what would happen to her if we lived nearby. Also, the vegetarian choice is reasonably priced. Many restaurants don't give vegetarians a break, so thank you, Ray's Café! The other complaint involves the omission of a certain punctuation mark. :)

Riley C. Was the most abrubt, non patient waiter I've had in a very long time. While ordering appetizers he also wanted our dinner order (rush, rush). We tried to order the halibut special, he Informed us the special was probably no longer available but took our order for it anyway. However, we did say we'd have cod if halibut was gone. When dinner was brought to us it was dropped down and he hurried off. No explanation if we were eating the halibut or cod. He never came back to ask if we needed anything else or if we wanted another drink, nothing. When he finally showed back up we asked for a dessert menu. Someone else brought it. It took so long for him to come check with us we finally said no to dessert for our bill and left.

Whenever my family comes into town we almost always have a dinner at Rays, where we can rely on great fish, a beautiful view, and great service. Only problem this time was the setting sun which, while beautiful, did shine in my eyes for about half an hour before sinking behind the Olympics.

I made reservations for an early lunch, a 40th birthday celebration for my niece who is developmentally disabled, and had as a guest one of our oldest family friends. The staff couldn't have been more gracious, we had a great window seat, the view was fabulous, the food was delicious, (Crabcakes, Ahi Tuna, Berry Salad) including the birthday cake I'd arranged for beforehand. It was a very special day! I've always loved Ray's, and would recommend this restaurant to everyone!

We were visiting Seattle from Vancouver, Canada and were celebrating an Anniversary, while Ray's Cafe is more casual than the Boathouse, it offered the out door dinning, stunning view and a sunset. The food was great, wine list was good and the ambiance was fine. We had a great evening and would certainly visit again. The deck is usually on a first come first serve basis, but I asked if it was possible for a table when I booked and they kindly accommodated us. A memorable evening.

We were highly impressed with Ray's Cafe. The crab cakes were better than any I had elsewhere in Seattle. My salad with shrimp was awesome. The view is spectacular. And, our waitress was hilarious and helpful. We had a couple pesky bees bothering us. Our waitress was so funny and eager to help us fight them off.

Ray's is always a wonderful experience, but I wish they'd push the quality of the food up just one little notch! Their service has gotten notably better in the last few years and now matches its location. I took some friends from Minneapolis there on a gorgeous warm August night, arriving 20 minutes before reservation so that we would have a shot at an outdoors table. Very attentive registration and bar service meant not only did I get a beer swiftly, and after only a few minutes, our outdoor table was ready. Bus person and waiter regularly attended our table and the waiter was great. Then -- he brought the bread. Three dry, stale uninteresting white rolls? Really? In a top Seattle restaurant? Love you anyway Ray's. :)

clearly the only reason this restaurant is still open is because of the view, without the view no one would go back. I cannot remember the last time I had such bland, mediocre food. Do yourself a favor - pack a picnic and go sit in Golden Gardens to enjoy the view, it will cost you less and the food will be much bettere

Based on summer 2014, reviews, we were not sure what to expect. Our friend wanted to return to celebrate her birthday since it has been a long time since having a meal at Ray's. Ray's is a special place we like to take our out of town guests and for special occasions. I always feel at home and have a special connection with the restaurant because my name is Ray. We had a perfect Seattle experience there on Wednesday evening the 20th of August with new business associates from Iowa on the deck of the Cafe. Elke served us very well in the busy bar while we waited for a table on the deck. You know we'll be back again and again as we have for 35 some years! I tell people Ray's is my restaurant! Ray Mooers P.S., I wanted this to go as a private note to the restaurant but it was dis-allowed due to: -262 characters remaining You have exceeded the character limit.

Our table was sticky on the edges. I put my hand on the back of the chair to pull it out and it was coated with dry food residue. Went to the bathroom to wash my hand. Switched chairs and sat down. Put my hands on the seat-side of the second chair to scoot toward the table and came away with food residue again. Yuck. Makes me wonder how clean the kitchen is. The bar processed my credit card at at $73 for a beer and a club soda. The charge was corrected but I wasn't given a copy of the voided charge nor of the actual itemized bill. The view was nice.

We had a great time. We got there early and were seated before our reservation time even though all our party was not present. The waiter was great. Only complaint was the calamari had been cooked in too old oil. We had been for lunch and the calamari was super. We will definitely return as it is a fun place and the view whether you are inside or out is great.

Spectacular view from out on the deck. Food was fine, but not worth $165 for lunch for four people. Service was spectacularly slow. It shouldn't take an hour to get your food on a Monday when your order is in to the kitchen 35 min after the restaurant opens. Lunch diners often need to get back to work, or off to their next event. Our server disappeared for long stretches at a time. Not recommended.

Perfect place for our reunion with friends we hadn't seen in 20 years! Our party of 9 was seated on time. The staff was very accommodating as they were busy that evening and the kitchen was doing their best to keep up with the crowd. It took an extended length of time for our main entrees to arrive. Food was delicious. We were enjoying our friends so we weren't particularly bothered with the delay. The staff made up for it by buying us a bottle or two of spirits. The staff is wonderful and very considerate. We were the last to leave! I will definitely go to Ray's Café again and again!

A waste of a good view and location. Food was mediocre. Service was rushed, even on a Monday night, and wait staff didn't even know what cocktail sauce is (this is a fish restaurant, right?). I was very disappointed with my lunch selection of the mixed berry salad. The spring mix greens were wilted, old, not fresh at all. Everyone was taken aback at how badly the salad greens were...how could your cooks even think of serving such old, mushy greens, not just at your prices, but at any price. Not acceptable. Also, there was an obvious hint of body odor as the young woman reached over to clear a plate.
