Diner Reviews
  • "This restaurant was recommended by my friends from St. Louis and I would certainly recommend it to the world! The food, service, and ambience, especially that awesome sunset was worth the long cab ride from our downtown hotel. The wait staff was friendly and very helpful and the food excellent...you have to try the desserts too! They made sure we had a cab waiting for us to take us back to our hotel when we were ready to go. Can't ask for anything more!"

  • "Not the same. Downstairs decor used to suggest a restaurant special. Now it is just another pricey restaurant with a good view. When we come back we will just eat upstairs."

  • "Rib-Eye steak very veining. Cheese plate wonderful. Mash potato salty. Lemon cake great."

  • "When we want the best restaurant for seafood, we choose Ray's. My wife had the salmon and I had the Halibut with a couple of scallops added. Both were delicious. Not too often do we get seafood in a restaurant were it is too much to finish! The service was also great. We go here for a special occasion and are never disappointed."

  • "My girlfriend and I both enjoyed our dinner immensely! She had halibut and I had Sablefish--both were excellent! We also ordered some prawns as an appetizer. The prawns came with some hummus and some garlic/potato spread that I don't recall the (German?) name for but it was also delicious. They also list a suggested wine pairing for each dish, which we opted for and both of us enjoyed them very much. We topped it off with chocolate cake and a tawny port. Yum! Oh, and the butter for the bread seemed unusually salty--but in a good way. Possibly large grain seasalt? I don't know, but it was also very good (the bread we put it on was only ok--that is the only remotely negative thing I have to say about the whole experience)."

  • "I'm a great fan of Ray's and go there frequently. This time our waitress seemed distracted, was not friendly (I don't want overly friendly wait persons, but this one was aloof), so that was a minor flaw. All our food was just fine as usual, except for the asparagus, which I ordered as a side dish. It was way too salty and way too tough. I could hardly cut it with my knife. I brought an out-of-town guest on this visit, and he raved about the view, the ambience, and the cuisine."

  • "We were recommended this place from a friend & the views were absolutely beautiful. Out server was amazing, I wish I would've gotten his name. The food was way better than expected. Husband said that this was the best dinner we'd had in a very long time."

  • "At a restaurant like Ray's Boathouse one doesn't expect to have to ask for bread to be brought to the table. Not to have the waitress look taken aback when you tell her you've been coming to the restaurant for years. Something like, "Welcome back!" or, "Obviously you enjoy it so you keep coming back." The staff that night seemed very young and "unseasoned". I'm used to a staff that's more mature and has an easy rapport with guests and is comfortable around a diverse culture. (Which is why my family started coming to Ray's when we were turned away at the door of Hiram's even though we had a reservation. All those many years ago.)"

  • "Our waiter was so "tourist" driven that he missed us mentioning that we were locals who had dined at Rays for decade. We had to ask for water and bread, he said yes the mussels were Penn Cove they were not...small vs LARGE. When reminded that these were not the mussels we wanted he never offered a comp dessert or to take them off the bill. Other food was good, but he was a huge disappointment. Poor tourists to have to endure all his fake enthusiasm when the food and view speak for themselves."

  • "Expensive but good food. Ok for special occasions but other restaurants offer better value."

  • "Deconstructed clam chowder- never had this before but it was awesome and a really unique twist on the traditional white NW chowder plus fun how it was served and completed at the table. Can't beat the view; the food was excellent; the waiter a bit on the dry side and not quite as attentive as he could have been; but all around a very nice dinner. PS - our teenaged sons actually left full!"

  • "While the food was solid, it lacked the wow factor of some other top restaurants. The decor was also somewhat dated, but the spectacular view made up the short coming of the decor, especially if you are lucky enough to get a table by the large window."

  • "I was in from LA for the weekend and came across some reviews of Ray's and it lived up to the food critic's review. We had the Lobster with snap pea risotto and it was fantastic, cooked to perfection. We also had the sirloin with prawns, the seasoning on the sirloin was exceptional and the meat was incredibly tender. The prawns were underwhelming, not flavored equally in comparison. We started with the Caesar salad which was okay, nothing spectacular. Desserts looked delicious but we were too full. Service was outstanding and the corner table by the window put us in great view of the sunset. A must for everyone, kind of romantic as well."

  • "The food the view and the service makes this restaurant very appealing. The sablefish was a big hit with our group of four! The service was terrific. We would definitely return next time we are in Seattle!"

  • "Limited menu. Oddly put together seafood chowder, salmon served as sushi not medium rare as ordered. Service was very good."

  • "I was very disappointed with the crab cakes. They were very small and not all that tasty. I did love the NW chowder. The cocktail and wine were excellent."

  • "What a great setting for celebrating our anniversary! We enjoyed wonderful food while enjoying a beautiful sunset. Definately an evening worth repeating."

  • "We timed our reservation so that we could enjoy the sunset! Ray's has such a lovely view of the water, the mountains, the boats. There is not a bad seat in the house. Our waiter was great; says he's worked there 20 years and he definitely knows the menu. I ordered salmon and he confirmed how well done I wanted it cooked which I really appreciated since I don't like partly cooked fish. We taught the bartender how to make a French 75 and she did a great job! We come here every year on our anniversary for a beautiful experience!"

  • "A bit pricey for a main course without a salad. Beautiful view of the water from our table however it was in too small of a space. Server was knowledgable, helpful and attentive. Hostesses very pleasant and acknowledged our anniversary. Food was prepared very well."

  • "It's been quite awhile since I entertained out of town guests at Ray's Boathouse--and I'm sorry I've waited so long to return. The entire staff, from valet to front desk to serving team, was gracious and helpful. And the food--it was amazing. The Sablefish in Sake Kasu and Ray’s Pacific Northwest Chowder prepared at the table were a huge hit. I'm headed back with another group of tourist friends later this week and I'm already salivating thinking of the other options to choose from."

  • "Ray's Boathouse is a wonderful place to go for a special dinner. Food is good. View spectacular. Limited menu. On this night there were no additions. This was very disappointing as the menu is small and Sable fish dishes appear no less than three times. Don't mean to be overly critical, but I find this odd. I've been to Ray's about a half a dozen times. I have enjoyed it each time, that's why I've gone back. This time with no additional specials for the evening the menu was not terribly diverse."

  • "My family and I took our children to Ray's for the first time for a birthday celebration. It had been awhile since we had been here without children and were reminded how much we missed it. The setting was beautiful and the food was delicious. They had ample selection for our children and the service was excellent. We'll be back soon!"

  • "The view was fabulous and the food was very good. I do have to say that the menu selection was very limited. The service was good. We were made welcome and not rushed through the meal. The restaurant is comfortable as well as pretty."

  • "1st visit to Ray's after the remodel (so it has been a while). Really missed the elegance of the old dining room. Despite new additions food was just OK (deconstructed chowder was salty and razor clam over fried) and service was not bad but not up to the high standards I had come to expect. (specifically we were seated at a table with dirty seats). Overall meh"

  • "It was a great night for our Anniversary. The weather was perfect and the scene on the water was fun. So many boats of all sizes and people going by on stand up paddle boards. The sunset was beautiful. The food was fantastic and everything was awesome. There was no problem with anything!"

  • "My international guests were looking for a special place to celebrate their engagement. I made a reservation for them at Ray's and they were not disappointed. The restaurant made a special effort to put a card on the table and acknowledge their special day."

  • "What a disappointment ... tried the Buttery Lettuce Salad and the Caesar ... both were wet ... the lettuce was not dried, so the dressing was totally watered down and tasteless ... the Eggplant dish was bland ... no taste ... awful ... the Halibut was excellent ... served over quinoa ... really good ... had the Lemon cake ($13.00 !!!) ... it was terrible ... dry and bland ... overall ... very disappointing ... great location ... beautiful views ..."

  • "Want to celebrate your birthday without having the waitstaff sing to you while you wear a special hat? Go to Ray's! I was greeted with a "Happy Birthday!" and there was a birthday card at my table and a single candle on my dessert; more than I expected and enough to make me feel special, not embarrassed. Food and service were excellent and the view, as usual, sublime. Thanks, Ray's!"

  • "We had a dinner for 6. As it was Thursday evening we all had different arrival times, some delayed. We were accommodated by the hosting staff very well. Our server,Shelby was prompt and gracious and reassured me that the traffic made this an understandable issue and please relax and the enjoy the evening. Her serving and explanations of the dishes we asked about was thorough and helpful. The rib eyes were poorly cooked and very over spiced with flavors and sauces. Not what you would expect of a ribeye or Rays. The cheese plate reminded me of the Alaska Airline commercial where the executive loves the idea of miniature chickens being served to there guests."
