Living in Newfoundland and Labrador, we’re blessed in having access to some of the best seafood, meat, and produce in the world. Having such a bountiful larder right on our doorsteps means we’re able to adopt a truly sustainable approach to fine dining – sourcing locally-grown ingredients and getting to know independent purveyors. We've made every effort to make dining at Raymonds a unique and rare treat. Visit us at 95 Water Street in the heart of downtown St. John’s. Our dinner menu, prepared by head chef Jeremy Charles, is inspired by rustic Atlantic Canadian cuisine. It features authentic dishes that take advantage of Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich variety of seafood, wild game, berries and vegetables, while also exploring innovative, 'haute cuisine' ingredient combinations and finishes.Continued

  • "After all the hype, I was disappointed that this was the "best" that NL has to offer when it comes to fine dining. The food quality I was served would not make an impression in any larger city or experienced diner. The char entree was especially mediocre - shocking for a province that prides intself re: fish & seafood. Companion felt same way about seafood soup. Presentation was beautiful, great wine list and fantastic service. "

  • "Raymond's is one of the best restaurants I have been to in the last couple of years, and I have been to many in several cities, both in North America and Europe. I read a few good reviews a while ago and decided to visit St. John's mostly to dine at Raymond's. The dinner we ate was every bit what the reviews said: fine dining, great fresh ingredients, very good service, fantastic wine list, refined and yet relaxed atmosphere, and beautiful premises. The sturgeon caviar was delicious as was the fresh made pasta with snow crab. Do not miss it! It is worth every penny!"

We'd been thinking to go to Raymond's for some time, but were hesitant to spend so much money on a dinner. We needn't have been. The entire experience was wonderful! The food is lovingly sourced and gorgeously prepared, the wine pairings were spot-on and the service excellent. It really is an experience more than a dinner, and we look forward to our next time!   • "Eight friends from "the Pearl" made our way to Raymonds for the first time expecting an upscale dining experience. Raymonds exceeded all our expectations. The staff were very personable and efficient, the meals were done to perfection and the drink refills were just in time. We did not expect the wait staff to tend to us so closely, nor did we expect 8 meals to be presented simultaneously. It has been a week since we dined at Raymonds, and we are still talking about it. We shall return in the future."

  • "We found the server friendly but very rushed in his service and explanation of the food. The restaurant was quite busy and this was obvious in our experience. The sommelier was excellent! - well informed and paired the wines with our food selections perfectly. The food overall tasted good but the temperature was not there. This is a high end fine dining restaurant and I would recommend it to high earners but ask for a reservation when it's not expected to be busy."

  • "My husband has tried for many years to give me a great birthday dinner, which means that we've eaten at most if not all fine dining restaurants in St. John's but had avoided Raymonds because rumor had that the "food was great but....VERY expensive". Only half of this rumor is true! Food was great, from appertizers through entrees (best beef tenderlion I've EVER eaten) to dessert. All were well balanced, perfectly prepared and presented. The accompanying wines, selected for us by the sommelier (this was suggested by extremely helpful, descreet and funny waiter) were outstanding, i now know what an asset a good sommelier is! the bill...was comparable to and in some cases actuallly less than hubby had paid at other establishments!"

And we should all be grateful that this top drawer restaurant exists and it just may raise the bar in this city which has been seriously lacking in his level of dining experience. The restaurant and small bar are unlike many Toronto restaurants where the noise level is offensive.. The staff at Raymond's set a calming tone and the food, service is superb and the food is consistently of the highest quality. These people actually care about the food they're serving to their guests, it's reflected in their continuing efforts to source home grown suppliers of the highest quality. I would rather go to this restaurant once a year than go to a restaurant this is mediocre but not charging mediocre prices."

  • "We had dinner at Raymond's in the heart of winter and despite this they were able to locally source a number of fresh and unique items for our dinner. We choose the 7 course tasting menu paired with wine and would do so again. The first course included New Brunswick oysters and caviar, but the highlight was a local fried lichen. Remarkable! The dinner never disappointed with every dish unique, well prepared, and professionally served. In fact the service at Raymond's rates with the best we have experienced at home or abroad. Highlights of the meal were the in-house moose pasta, a wonderful pairing of cod with short ribs, and the most unique dessert based on buckthorn berries. The paired wines were also spectacular and well matched."

  • "I took my wife here for her Birthday and wished we went to Bianca's. I'm no restaurant critic so I'll be keeping this simple, the food came kind of mixed together, it was pretty weird as everything tasted the same don't really know how to explain this. This was really a disappointing experience and it's too bad that I decided to check this out for the first time on my wifes Birthday as it would be a memorable occasion for the wrong reasons. I should also mention that the service was 1st class."

It is pricy but for a nice treat out its deffinitely on the to-do-again list. I especially like the halibut and my husband really enjoy the steak, it was cooked to perfection! The only downfall was we did the wine-pairing and the dessert wine was not so tasty, we also dont like strong white wines though :)"

  • "It was the first time we have been to Raymond's and we were not disappointed! The food was fantastic, though the restaurant is quite expensive. We knew the restaurant was expensive going in so we weren't surprised there though. They use as much local as they can and the food was exceptional as well as the staff. Our server was friendly, attentive, but not too in your face, perfect! It is definitely not a place we can go all the time because of the cost but a definite for special occasions."

  • "Most enjoyable meal! The amuse bouche was interesting, and the appetizer of kale and beet salad refreshing and light. Delicious entree of duck breast, with a great combination of vegetables that enhanced the taste of the duck. Husband had the steak which he rated as excellent . Lovely creme brûlée for dessert , with a nice touch wishing us Happy Anniversary. Good knowledgable service. Good atmosphere. Great presentation of each course.   • "I have visited Raymond's a number of times and have always found it excellent. Last night was no exception. Our waiter knew us, and had read the note I had made in the online reservation. The servings were generous - I ordered 15 oysters and received about 20 of them - ostensibly because they were small. I don't know about that, but they certainly were fresh. The amuse-bouche was novel and good. The halibut was excellent, fresh and flavourful. My male guest was enthusiastic about his steak, and he is hard to please in that regard. The wine pairings were appropriate, and one of them - a blanc de noir from Pinot Noir grapes, from Germany, was a new experience. And the service was perfect."

  • "Raymonds is without a doubt one of Canada's best restaurants and certainly the best in a small town. The food is imaginative, local, and beautifully presented. The wines (we had a tasting menu with an flight of wines selected by the sommelier) are outstanding and each glass is accompanied with a helpful, informative description by the sommelier himself including an explanation of why it was chosen to accompany that particular course. The service is impeccable. A great restaurant I am proud to have in my home town."

The same standard of food is much cheaper in a larger city like Vancouver. However, it's one of the best in St. John's and once in a while it's ok to splurge. My favourite course of the 5 was the squab. Delicious and melt in your mouth."
