  • "Chose Rats because of great experiences … Got there 30 minutes early & decided to walk the gardens. So asked the maitre d if we could push our reservation back 30 minutes. He immediately said "NO .. booked solid". Note ½ the tables empty when seated. While ordering, our scripted waitress mentions a tasting menu but unless interested, she will forego describing it. I ask her suggestion on the scallops vs lamb. She says lamb is delicious .. I order lamb. We see the next table get served scallops … then lamb … realize it's the tasting menu!!! Why did she not suggest it ??!! We ask for a creme brûlée for dessert which next table eating. Answer .. NO .. creme brûlée reserved for tasting menu! Note tables still empty when we left!"

  • "If you go to Grounds for Sculpture (and you should), then you have to treat yourself to this fine restaurant. Great atmosphere and service. Delicious food!"

  • "This was our first time visiting Grounds for Sculpture and our first time dining at Rats. Rats was the perfect respite after walking the Grounds for 2.5 hours. We had a delightfully relaxing and satisfying lunch. The service was just right, and the food choices were excellent for dining and then returning to walk the Grounds again for another hour or so. All was as anticipated and as expected. If you use Open Table to make your reservation, and if you prefer outdoor dining, you should also call the restaurant to make sure outdoor dining will be available. It was not on the day we went due to a private event. However, that did not dampen our positive experience. We will definitely return to both Rats and the Grounds for Sculpture."

  • "Used the visit for a double birthday lunch, we had appetizers, salads, wine and mains with desserts. The meal was well paced and nicely presented."

  • "Rats is one of our favorite places, Go on a beautiful day and lunch by the Monet bridge. We made a reservation weeks in advance to take friends who had never before dined at Rats and were really looking forward to this special lunch. Understandably, our request to dine outside couldn't be honored due to a wedding taking place. But here is where the staff came up short. They led us to a corner table that had air conditioning vents on the floor just below our chairs and the table was cramped. Even though the vents were covered with what looked like menus? or such, the whole effect was annoying. Our request to change tables was immediately honored, but I think more thought was needed to a reservation made this far in advance."

  • "We decided to do something different for our day out. We walked through the Grounds for Sculpture for three hours and had dinner at your restaurant. A most enjoyable evening out. All of your employees were so nice and friendly. We started with three cheese and Mayan prawn for appetizers, fantastic. We then enjoyed our dinner of rabbit and steel head trout. For dessert was the double chocolate cake and the donuts, delicious. Just a wonderful evening, thank you."

  • "The setting is beautiful, but I guess you have to request an outdoor table, which I did not. We were, however, seated in a room with lots of windows looking out on the beautiful outdoors. However, the windows were covered by long strings of bead. Whatever decorator thought of this was not thinking about the customer. Also, the "speech" about the food and restaurant that the servers were required to give was ridiculously silly. Who invented this idea that my server would "take care of (me) for the afternoon"? I would recommend this place because of the setting and the food was pretty good, but the experience as a whole was laughable and didn't reflect very well on Grounds for Sculpture or its management."

  • "Usually places with a high tourist amount of traffic are just that, for tourists. This can be a real destination for dining; many of the dishes had creative presentations for what is typical and many of the dishes were just interesting...."

  • "My first visit after hearing about Rat's for several years. Everyone raves about it and they are right. The setting is beautiful especially with an outside table. Originally, we were seated inside. When we saw how beautiful the terrace was we requested an outside table and they cheerfully accommodated us. Food was excellent and the service was also. Very attentive but not intrusive. We took advantage of a special that had admission to the Grounds for Sculpture and a 3 course prix fixe dinner. The choices were very good and cooked to perfection. All courses were delicious and more than enough. Presentation was superb. The manager came to check on our table which I always appreciate. We will certainly return."

  • "Enjoyed our visit and lunched looking out over 'Monet's water lilies' along with art! Were very disappointed in the fact that they changed policy about eating at Rat's and including admission to the park. Used to be that the price of lunch got you entrance to park. Now you have to still pay full price to get into the park so lunch price + the additional $24 to get into art park upped the cost of the day. Should at least be a discount as Rat's isn't cheap!"

  • "What a lovely evening! Everything was fabulous: the food (entrees of duck breast & filet), the ambience (perfect for the occasion celebrating our 57th wedding anniversary) and the service by Maynor was so professional and courteous. Looking forward to our return."

  • "This restaurant has been on my bucket list and it did not disappoint. My daughter and I so enjoyed the entire day even with the heat. You feel as though you are in a Monet painting all the while eating delicious salads and desserts."

  • "This restaurant is a great site for tourists to get something different. The food itself is solid, with imaginative pairings. The food we had was a bit uneven; the duck dish was fantastic but the spring risotto was bland. The cocktail list is also worth a browse through!"

  • "Made a reservation and we were a few mintues late. We were seated in a hallway.there was not even a hint of giverny. The bathrooms were better themed then the place I was seated. Un impressed not up to Steven Starr standards. The other rooms looked gorgeous but none of that theme was visible from my seat"

  • "The selection of meals, appetizers and desserts was very good. The waiter was attentive, helpful and pleasant. The décor and setting excellent. The food wasn't disappointing, but didn't equate to all of the other excellent features of the restaurant. It is not inexpensive, but we didn't expect it to be. The bottom line was we enjoyed the experience and will probably will return to see more of the Sculpture grounds and dine once more, but it will be a special occasion."

  • "Even though we arrived one-half hour earlier, we were accommodated at an outdoor table, which went well. Too few restaurants in the U.S. have dining outdoors in such an unusually lovely spot. This was not our first time at Rat's. However, as I booked online, there was no way to request the outdoor dining other than upon arrival at Rat's. I did find it a bit intrusive that so many people roamed around with cameras to take pictures."

  • "Didn't know what to expect when we planned our trip to the Grounds for Sculpture and we were Amazed! The grounds were lovely, so well planned out. The Sculptures were awesome. We had the most enjoyable day and lunch at Rat's was wonderful. We ate outside on the patio near Monet's bridge, scenic and lovely. Looking forward to a return trip."

  • "We are from Virginia and get the AAA magazine that had an excellent write-up for the restaurant. We were not disappointed in the gardens or the restaurant. We have an aunt in Mt laurel and will bring her there the next time we are up that way."

  • "Had a lovely lunch at Rats Restaurant! We snared a table for 2 directly overlooking the water and had a lovely view of the beautiful scenery. Our server was attentive and pleasant. I had the Tuna Nicoise Salad which I enjoyed. It was quite tasty! My dining companion got the Pastrami Sandwich which she also liked."

  • "Great for a romantic dinner with great patio seating with excellent french food..The grounds and the restaurant were breathtaking and romantic. Service was excellent and food was superb.. I had the Kale salad, cheese platter and the veal.. Expensive but worth it."

  • "The escargot was very good as well as the rabbit and steak. The chocolate lava cake was good but serving it with a premium or hand made vanilla ice cream would be better than the whipped cream. The dessert is a bit tired overall. The wait staff was ok. The resto was not very busy and they were milling about and looking over the balcony where we were sitting which was a bit weird and intrusive. I would probably skip it if visiting Grounds for Sculpture again."

  • "Rat's is always terrific - from cocktails to dessert - so it was our clear choice for our anniversary dinner. The food, drinks and service were top-notch, as usual. Thanks for a lovely evening!"

  • "Good place to eat when visiting the Grounds for Sculpture. Great space. Attentive service. Food hit and miss considering the hype from the wait staff. Flank steak sandwich special was served cold on soggy bread. Salads were great."

  • "I highly recommend this restaurant. We went for an anniversary dinner and it was the perfect place for a special event. The ambiance was perfect. And the grounds arw gorgeous. It was a perfect combo of sight and taste."

  • "Although the atmosphere is unquestionably special, the food and service on this visit were below what i have experienced before at Rats and what one would expect from this establisment. I would suggest avoiding the Mezze appetizer, which is more akin to a party tray than fit for an individual, and the bouilliabaise main course, which was way too salty."
    Dined on 7/5/2014
  • "We had another wonderful dinner at Rats last night! The appetizers and desserts were fabulous, however, the entrees were tasty but somewhat ordinary. We had asked for a table with a view, but the only thing they could offer us was an outside table that was big enough for 8 people. We will definitely be back, probably for the Valentines Buffet, which was spectacular last year!"

  • "Had a wonderful time service was outstanding for such a busy restaurant didn't rush us at all and thoroughly enjoyed it. Tried the burger and felt it was good not great, someone had the mussels and loved them and the chicken provencal was average. I think salads look the best of everything we saw come out of the kitchen. Dinner may be much better so will go back to try."
