Diner Reviews
  • "Rasika's chef was recently named Best Chef in the mid-Atlantic region by the James Beard Foundation. It's easy to understand why. This is one of the most exciting and innovative restaurants in a city full of first rate dining choices. Seafood, lamb, chicken and a variety of vegetarian offerings are all perfectly rendered. The new sommelier is on top of his game, too. He recommended a wonderful bone dry Riesling that was a perfect complement to our meal. The service simply could not have been better. I have raved about Rasika before and likely will again when we eat there next. It is a consistently rewarding experience."

  • "The beauty of an otherwise romantic dinner amidst a nice ambience and innovative dishes was spoilt by the extreme high decibels! You really had to talk over your voice to be heard. We quickly finished our dinner because we ealised the table next to us was to be converted to a six seater round table ... I would not recommend this place for a quiet pleasant evening."

  • "We had an outstanding experience at Rasika! We appreciated that my husband and I were seated at a four-top, so we were both able to sit on the banquette for a romantic dinner on our first night together in DC. Our personable server, Rita, did a lovely job of listening to our preferences and suggesting items to supplement our researched choices. We loved the popular Palak Chaat, crispy spinach with wonderful layers of textures, spices, and flavors. The similarly regarded black cod was also delightful in its complexity yet very balanced. Rita was very helpful in matching glasses of wine to our dishes, and introduced us to some new treasures. We will definitely recommend Rasika to others visiting DC, and would relish an opportunity to return."

  • "Loved the food and service. no high chairs for infants. Was very noisy which made my kid little cranky. Great service."

  • "Best & Authentic Indian food I have tasted for a long time. The tastes found here are exceptional and hard to find in Indian restaurants back home in India."

  • "I had heard about Rasika for years so was happy to finally get there, and the food and service lived up to my expectations. The only downside was the noise level! It was difficult to hear the server, or my dining companion. But the food was delicious and I will return--though plan to try Rasika West End first!"

  • "Met for lunch as a part of 3 for a business discussion regarding a new initiative/joint project for my company and an educational partner. Had a great table, with a wonderful server who made recommendations for entrees and dessert, that we happily accepted. Everything was delicious!"

  • "Rasika has been on our "must try" restaurants for a long time. We finally got reservations for lunch and it exceeded our expectations. Crispy spinach was delicious. I'm glad we also ordered the bread basket which had a delicious sampling of naan. I had tandoori salmon which had a wonderful flavor and my husband had a lamb dish. We plan to go back soon so we can try several other dishes. Lunch prices were very reasonable."

  • "Very overrated , almost too commercialized. The eggplant and okra appetizers were small but very tasty. My grouper was ok but not great.. Very acidy...we sat on a corner but at 930pm it was hopping but VERY loud. I was dissapointed I was expecting better tasting food for a top eatery."

  • "The tasting menu is the best way to experience Rasika. It's 6 course description is a misnomer, though. One of the courses is a "main" course but it served four different tastings. Ditto for the dessert course. In essence, you are getting over 12 courses, so enjoy!"

  • "We've heard so many good things from this place for the past few years. I had a hard time getting reservations because I didn't make them for in advance. The wait was absolutely worth it! Every single item we ordered was delicious! Everything was bursting with flavors from the first bite. We told our server we would be sharing out meals so she had the kitchen combine both dishes on our plates. I would love to come back again to try other dishes!"

  • "Absolutely phenomenal food, cocktails and variety. Also, the cook here is better than the West End location."

  • "the food was fantastic and service even better! we were seated at a perfect table in the window and enjoyed the chef's tasting menu. It was a wonderful experience."

  • "Eating at Rasika is an awesome experience. If you are the first timer you need to try the Palak Chat. Since me and my wife were vegetarian, our server told us that he can get us "Paneer Makhani" which was not listed in the menu. We also ordered "Makki Moongphali Kofte" which we thought was average. [We will make sure not to order this next time we are eating there]. Another observation was that we ordered a bread basket and found the quality of breads in the basket were inferior when compared to ordering individual breads. Recommend that you order individual breads instead of basket. Carrot Halwa with ice-cream was very good. Overall a great place, with great ambiance and look forward for our next visit."

  • "Very good food. The place can be a bit noisy, but not over bearing. The menu selection is not very large like in some other places, but enough that you have a few good choices. Loved the Palak Chaat and the Chicken Masala. Will return again. Dinner for 2 approximately $150, including one alcoholic drink, with desert and coffee and tea."

  • "The chicken in the chicken byriani dish was extremely dry and so was the lamb in the lamb dish we had. The curry sauce also tasted strongly of tomatoe sauce which was very disappointing. Overall - poor food quality for the high price."

  • "Simply the best Indian restaurant in DC and probably the US."

  • "Our first visit to Rasika in a long time and we wonder why we didn't return sooner. The flavors and textures of the food at Rasika are just amazing. From the Palaak Chat to the Chicken Biriyani and Tandoori Salmon with a side of delicious kale fritters, each bite was memorable. Sadly, we were too full to consider dessert, but we did enjoy reading the options available had we been up for just one more bite. Being at Rasika reminds us that we need to get back to Bombay Club next!"

  • "Loved our waiter! Loved our food. Nose level is semi loud, but worth it. With 2 entrees and bottle of wine, the price was still under $200. Will be back"

  • "Excellent food- can't wait to return. Next time I will try the tasting, so I can experience more of the menu items. The staff were so professional, yet warm. This was a fantastic date spot, because the ambiance was comforting and who doesn't look great in candle light!"

  • "We were there celebrating our anniversary. It was my first visit and my husband had been there for a lunch before. Our server was very attentative, but not in our face and helped us with appetizer recommendations. Food was awesome. We has the Palak Chaat and Ragda Patties for an appetizer, the Ragda was good, but the Palak Chaat was amazing. The spinach melted in your mouth. Chicken Tikka Masala entree was the best I have ever had. Hubby has Tandoori Cicken Tikka and he was very pleased with it. It is noisy inside but would not deter me from going back again. I look forward to our next visit."

  • "Another great evening at Rasika. Must have reservations for this place (sometimes months in advance). Service was terrific as was the food. We asked for several recommendations for wine and food and were not disappointed with the response. Always a treat to eat here."

  • "The only downside to this restaurant is that it is so good that it is hard to get a reservation! Absolutely the best Indian restaurant that I have been to (and I have been to many in India, the UK, and the US), and very possibly the best restaurant in the D.C. metro area. I think the only Indian restaurant I ever crave as much is Sagar (in Defense Colony, Delhi)."

  • "Was looking forward to celebrating our friends anniversary dinner here. Food was very mediocre in taste. The palak Chaat was very good. The lobster was a total disappointment. Even the Sea Bass-Hyderabad style was quite bland. It is incredibly loud inside. So it is not at all easy to have a conversation across your table, unless you are just a couple. All in all would not recommend to my friends. Service was very good."

  • "Party of four -- parents and two sons celebrating a son's birthday. Our second time there, first lunch. Fantastic food and service made for a memorable occasion. When we arrived, we were told we were given a quiet table (there aren't many) as we had requested. The table was in the small area to the left of the entrance and was indeed quiet. A significant addition to a wonderful lunch."

  • "Rasika is one of my favorite DC restaurants and why I chose it for my birthday dinner. I'm a vegetarian and there are so many delicious dishes to choose from. Palak chaat (crispy spinach) is a must."

  • "Had the tasting menu with wine pairings. Really nice flash-fried spinach on the front end; super dessert sampler on the end. In the middle, particularly the lamb & chicken mains, it was just average. Wines were a little above average, but didn't grab me. Service was attentive but not overbearing. It was loud to the point that I could only hear the wait staff descriptions of the courses about 50% of the time, which was too bad because that's part of the fun. With tip, dinner for two was $240, so not necessarily a good deal for the price. I'll try it again, because I've had a really nice lunch experience there before, but they'll have to kick it up a notch to keep me coming. I will probably order off the menu next time."

  • "My mother and I were in town for a conference and wanted to go to a special place to celebrate her birthday. I chose Rasika because of the overall great reviews online. We weren't disappointed with the food or service. We had the black cod & palak chaat, based on recommendation from other reviewers. I'd definitely agree with them: these dishes were scrumptious. The downsides from our visit were 1) the level of noise - maybe it was the particular crowd that night but my mom and I had to talk very loudly to each other in order to be heard 2) the table we got was out of the way without much of a view, but as they were packed that night, I guess I can't complain. I'd consider Rasika to be a place to try at least once for the experience."

  • "Rasika delivers on classy Indian food. The flavours are full on and just yummy! Their crispy spinach dish is delicious. All 4 of our party cleared our plates! My teenage children had the date and toffee pudding and raved about it! Staff were attentive and friendly. Restaurant quite loud but good atmosphere. Definitely recommend!"

  • "This was my first time eating Indian food and it was wonderful. I already want to go back. We ordered the six course tasting menu with a mix of meat and vegetarian entrees. All the dished were great and the portions very plentiful. I'm not good with spicy and only one of the dishes was too much for me. Wine pairings were okay but not great. Service was very attentive except that the hostess knew it was my husbands birthday and they did nothing, not even a wee little candle on his carrot cake. We'll be back to explore more of the food and order off the regular menu."

  • "I had wanted to go to this restaurant for a long time. I finally made it there for a weekday lunch. The waiter said we must try a dish I'd never heard of, I think it was called: Palak Chaat. It was totally amazing and hard to describe. Our entrees on the other hand seemed very much run-of-the-mill, and the restaurant was a bit pricey for run-of-the-mill."
