I had the tasting menu, which was delicious. The chef offered my husband, who is a vegan, a special dish since there wasn't much else on the menu he could eat. Although this accommodation was nice, the dish was uninteresting. Our waiter was very nice, but it took a while to get our main course after the starters. I noted when I made the reservation that we would be celebrating our anniversary. To our surprise at the end of the meal, the waiter brought us a special dessert with a candle in it. Overall, we enjoyed our meal and had a lovely evening.

I went to Rasika on 2013 New Years Eve. That was the best food i had in ages. We went again this week. Ordered a Paneer dish - pretty disappointing taste. The gravy tasted bad. Parathas were good so was their famous Palak Chat - little oily though. Biryani was ok but pretty hard to serve from the dish with the spoon they provided. For the money I spent I probably will stick to other Indian restaurants to get some wholesome and filling tasty food. The only silver lining was the waiter who helped us.

Can't stop eating the palat chaat. Except for a server with an attitude, the meal was enjoyable. They keep the menu fresh with tweaks, like a saffron rice instead of the (yummy) orange rice. And an unusual dessert of chocolate samosa.

The staff seemed more suited to a snooty New York restaurant, but the service was efficient. Some of the food was great (palak chaat & date/toffee dessert), some was uninteresting (veggie hot pot). The restaurant is beautiful. My seat - next to the wait station to input tickets - was too close to another's seat; as a result every time a waiter went to the ticket station, my seat was bumped. Annoying, but not a huge problem. I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again, but I'll give it another try.

Our latest foray to Rasika West End was after a Kennedy Center concert. It is one of the only places in town that is open late enough to accommodate diners after the theater or concert. The food and service are always wonderful and we continue to go back again and again.

I was visiting DC for a conference and wanted to take my wife out on a date who was visiting for a couple of days. I heard about Rasika and that president Obama likes to go there and that they have an innovative take on Indian food. Both my wife and I are Indian food experts--I am Indian and cook a variety of dishes myself and we have both traveled extensively in India and have tried various local cuisines to their fullest. We have also been to some of the best Indian restaurants in the US, and going by what we heard about Rasika, we were expecting nothing but the best from the food. Something that would really hit our senses. We were disappointed. The crispy spinach chat that was highly recommended online was basically just spinach pakodas with a measly amount of yogurt, tamarind chutney, tomatoes and onions. It was too oily. The main course dishes were nothing special. The lamb in the Rajasthani lamb curry was very tender and well cooked, but the curry wasn't anything special. I make far better curries at home. I was pleased to see some dishes from goa (Bebinca), parsi dishes (dhansak), and maharashtrian dishes (dhangari dal) on the menu. If only the resraurant could work on making food of the quality one gets in a restaurant like Delhi Darbar in Mumbai, it would be a great place to go.

Warm and friendly service at a comfortable restaurant did not make up for food that was just not high quality. We actively seek South Asian food experiences when we travel and, based on a friend's review of the other Rasika location here in Washington, had high hopes for our meal. All five of us were disappointed by the fare. The cauliflower, for just one example, was breaded and fried beyond recognition. Nice people - food that is mediocre at best.

The dishes were good, but I expected more based on all the postive reviews this restaurant has. Maybe our choices were just wrong. The lamb curry was OK,nothing sepcial. The lamb korma was thin, almost watery. The appetizers were better than the entrees. However, the crispy spinach was greasy and by the second bite you had enough. A few weeks ago I went to Rasika Penn Quarter, and it was great, the flavors were vibrant and powerful. So. I was a disappointed this time.

The palat chaat (sp?) is the most delicious dish in town. The mango shrimp hasn't had any trace of mango for at least a year, but the shrimp are good. Lamb was ho hum. Lunch is much less noisy than dinner because there are fewer people dining.

The restaurant layout makes each table seem to be in an intimate setting. The lighting is subdued and enhances the intimate atmosphere. The service is outstanding - helpful and animated with no hint of condescension toward first timers. The food is excellent. The seating is comfortable. Conversation is possible without raising one's voice. Prices are in range with DC dining (the pre-theater menu is a bargain). What's not to like?

Both Rasika locations share enormous popularity, and Rasika West End is a gold mine in the neighborhood. High density, high energy excellent restaurants show the stress and pressure required to get the job done-and this begins with a hostess scripted to say your table will be ready soon, wait in the bar. Once at table a waiter eventually appears--and this time ours was excellent. Wish he had stopped by around the time we were seated--if only to greet us for a moment. Once ordering began, all went well and the food was really very good and our bottle of french wine just perfect with the flavors. Managers should visit tables at least once in the evening like their owner visits his restaurants. Rasike will make you like Indian cuisine.

As visitors to DC we looked forward to dining at Rasika again. The food did not disappoint. Our vegetarian dishes outshone our meat/fish dishes. The favorites were the Cauliflower Bezule, Avocado Banana Chaat, Palak Chaat, Tawa Baingan and Khubani Ka Kofta. The cauliflower was perfectly seasoned. The Avocado banana chaat was unlike anything we've had. Absolutely delightful. The spinach in the Palak Chaat crispy, without being greasy. The combination of the eggplant and potato in the Tawa Baingan made for a treat for our tongues. The Kofta was melt in our mouths delicious. Light and flavorful. The sea bass varuval, mango shrimp, and Malai Seekh Kebab were good, just not outstanding. The one downside of the visit was our waiter. He made it very evident that he really didn't want to pay much attention to us. He was much more attentive to his other tables.

Have to say for all the hype and great reviews I felt that the food was very underwhelming. My girlfriend and I felt that most of the food items were way too sweet and buttery. We felt was forcibly trying to be fancy and not truly authentic Indian food. We've had much better food at local Indian restaurants in Virginia for 1/4 the price. Don't think we will be back or eager to recommend to others.

I had a 10 PM reservation at the West End location on a Friday night. I would have preferred a more vibrant scene for a late dinner with friends, but maybe it was just getting too late. The food was excellent. I liked the modern spin on the green pea samosas. The Cauliflower Bezule was great, although I didn't expect it to be fried. The Andhra Chicken Curry was awesome, especially if you like spicy/hot food. I liked the Garlic Naan, although I think I like all garlic naan. The service was excellent. The cocktails were well crafted and I felt that I had plenty to choose from. I would return just for drinks.

Treated with such contempt by our waiter it would have totally ruined our experience if the drinks weren't flowing and we hadn't turned it into a game to see how many ways he could be rude to us. I'm a fan of Sindian cuisine and have travelled to India as well. I was really looking forward to this dinner, booked weeks in advance, but was disappointed that I had to wait nearly 1/2 hour for my reserved table. Patience and kindness pays off folks! The maitre d'hôtel promised they'd make it up to me and they certainly did...the food just kept coming and it was superb! From the flash fried baby spina he to the seared tuna and the quartet of entrees (they comped a fifth, the black cod, yum!) all was perfectly orchestrated by my server Bo, who made my time there an experience, not just a meal; he was wonderfully adept and kind. Rasika is a must for anyone who loves Indian cuisine and flawless service. Go!

The palak chaat was unbelievably good -- a must order! I ordered a delicious lamb entree, and I am looking forward to exploring the rest of the menu. The service, though, was a little odd. When I asked the waiter if he recommended that my friend and I order our own entrees or split smaller plates instead he responded that "it will all end up in the same place anyway." We also asked him to recommend a dessert and he was rather uncooperative. Maybe we just didn't understand his sense of humor? In any case, I definitely recommend it and will be going back.

I've eaten lunch at Rasika West End twice now, and have been disappointed with the food both times. I have high standards for this restaurant, as the Penn Quarter location is absolutely delicious. At Rasika West End, it's just not as good. Most recently, the star anise fish was undercooked. I did not complain to the server, and I will say the service is fine. Compared to other Indian restaurants in the area, Rasika West End is not worth the price. It just doesn't pull off the unique flavors the way the original does. I will not be going back to the West End location.

We marked our 16th anniversary with dinner with friends at Rasika West. The food was terrific from the first bite of palaat chat to the last spoonful of sorbet. Our waiter was terrific -- made great recommendations for our friends who were there for the first time. The wine is extensive enough and not overly priced as our so many Washington restaurants. The only problem is how difficult it's become to make timely reservations. Give yourself a 4-6 week start on your desired date.
