RappahannockAlthough the food was good,Although the food was good, the menu was very limiting.
The desserts were fabulous.5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMDon't go with kids- they haveDon't go with kids- they have NOTHING kid friendly.
Don't go with a big group- its hard to hear conversation.
Portion sizes are smaller, so order a salad.
EXCELLENT food, though! You will not be disappointed!5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFood great. LOUD!!!Couldn't hear table mates or waitress. But, food was excellent.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMDissapointingEven though we made reservations, when we got there our table was not ready, we waited fifteen minutes at the bar and then they offered a table with stools next to the bar. Between the two, staying at the bar was a better choice. This made the dining experience very dissapointing. On the upside the food was fantastic. If we go back we will make sure to emphasis on the seating arrangements.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMGood SeafoodThe food was excellent. The crowd tended toward youngish, but there were older people there as well. It was loud. Reservations are needed a couple of weeks in advance for a table, but there always seemed to be some seats available at the bar.5/4/2013 12:00:00 AMAll you need is sand and wavesLook and feel is very beachy. Nice array of seafood and some options for those who aren't big on fish or shellfish. Good wine choices to include Prosecco. Terrific to find a place that serves lunch up to 3:00 during the week. Had a great tuna melt with fresh tuna and salad side ... really yummy!5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMOFF THE RADARA great find for those who want something a little different. Well-worth the trip downtown.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMNoisy Food VenueThe interior structure of this venue lacks any sound baffling, and the restaurant is noisy as a result. The food and service are great, but don't count on being able to hear your dining partner over the din.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPotent drinks from the barPotent drinks from the bar equal a good after work stop. Food and service was excellent! I plan on going back. The noise level was loud. Busy during the weekends, best to go during the week.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMWHAT A FIND!THE LOCATION WAS GOOD THE FOOD WAS REALLY REALLY GREAT ALL 4 OF US HAD SOMETHING DIFFERANT AND WILL TASTED EACH OTHER DINNER AND WE ALL SAID THE SAME THING WE HAVE TO COME BACK AND TRY SOME THING DIFFERANT. EVERY THING WAS MADE FRESH THE SEA FOOD, I HAD THE PORK BELLIES IS WAS OUTRAGOUS, TENDER JUST MELTED IN MY MOUTH, PAN FRIED GROUPER FLAKEY AND JUST SO..... IT WAS ALL GOOD. THE DRINKS A GREAT BEER SELECTION AND WINE SELECTION. WE ALL HAD LOTS OF FUN. WE ALL HAD A GREAT TIME.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMA great addition to the downtownA great addition to the downtown Richmond area - especially for the Carpenter theater4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMWonderful, wonderful new additionWonderful, wonderful new addition to the Richmond food scene. The interior is hip, yet rustic and the bar is large and filled with the attractive, young urbanites every bar needs to bring in to generate hype.4/28/2013 12:00:00 AMMy husband and I were pleasantlyMy husband and I were pleasantly surprised with Rappahannock. The oysters were the freshest we'vevhad in Virginia. And you just can't go wrong with processoco on tap! Try the asparagus salad, it was amazing!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my first time atThis was my first time at Rappahannock, and it definitely warrants many repeat trips! The food was all outstanding, the wine (a French sauvignon blanc) was excellent, and the baked oysters were divine. I can't eat raw oysters, and I've never found any "cooked" versions so delicious. Terrific pre-opera dinner!4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMFood was excellent. ExpectedFood was excellent. Expected such from oysters, but was delighted with the smoked chicken entrée.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMI understand that the noiseI understand that the noise level is part of Rappahannock's ambience, but it is too loud for my taste. The food, on the other hand, is outstanding, so I'll probably go back again.4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent evening out! HighlyExcellent evening out! Highly recommend a signature cocktail to start - the mixologist on staff was great and the concoctions creative and delicious. The raw bar and dinner menu was a terrific read - hard to narrow down what to order - and our waitress was well informed in answering our questions. And, of course, the entrees were visually pleasing and awesome. Scallops right off the boat and to the restaurant - outstanding! We shall return for lunch or another evening out...perhaps at the bar (shoulder to shoulder oyster slurping, AND no TVs).4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMLoved loved the food. OnLoved loved the food. On eof the best dinners I've had in Richmond. Loud, why not cover up some concrete and make it a little more quiet4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMSunday dinner pleaser! Our Sunday dinner was delicious! We tried several dishes, starting with raw oysters, oyster stew, asparagus salad, steamed clams, & the field greens salad. We then moved to our entrees, crab cakes, lamb burger, and rockfish, which were amazing. We finished off with the apple cobbler and homemade ice cream & the panna cotta. Each dish was prepared splendidly and the tastes were varied and unique. I highly recommend Rappahannock!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been looking for aI have been looking for a great raw bar for so time. My daughter and I went the for Sunday Brunch. The oysters were awesome! I had invested in a Virginia co-op program called "Oysters for Life"the week before where they will deliver 2 dozen oysters to my home for the next 10 years, and I found that they supply this restaurant as well. Wow! I struck the same oyster vein!4/21/2013 12:00:00 AMCool spotFood was good, but not the most amazing thing I've ever eaten. Our server was fantastic. I wish I could remember her name! Definitely a cool spot, though. I'd go back.4/20/2013 12:00:00 AMCool, fun atmosphere and great foodI haven't had a chance to visit Merroir, so was excited to try Rappahannock. Pretty much lived up to everything I've heard - though I was surprised at how much of the place the bar takes up. That said - it works. The place maintained a fun vibe all night. We sat at the bar until our table was ready - great bar staff served up some creative cocktails.
After we were seated our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had all four types of oysters they were serving, a "salmon" trout app, asparagus salad and pan fried tile fish. All were excellently prepared and delicious - I'd recommend any of them.4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMWhen all ages come throughWhen all ages come through the door you know it's a happening place!
Our first (of many, we expect)visit to Rappahannock was not without the rave reviews we had heard and read. Best ever salad, one of our party of four said about the asparagus salad. Two others raved about their oyster selections, and the grilled shrimp. Portions are so well planned that we even had room for dessert. One word of advice from a husband who was still a little hungry at the end: Be sure to order an appetizer or salad (which the rest of us did) because his entree of baked oysters did not go quite far enough for his appetite! We'll be back so he can get it right!4/19/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, but too noisy to enjoy.Food was wonderful. Service was outstanding. Waiter was attentive and helpful But the noise level in this restaurant was just too loud for me and my friend. We had a reservation for 6:15 on a Wednesday. The place was pretty packed. I don't know why the rating category provided is "energetic." I would say disturbingly noisy. We enjoy good food and conversation. This restaurant definitely provides the first, but does not permit the second. If you don't mind having to yell to your dining companions, then definitely try this restaurant.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMour first experience at Rappahannocour first experience at Rappahannock was unbelievable! The food was absolutely outstanding. We can hardly wait to go back!!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMThis was my second time atThis was my second time at Rappahannock's. Both were enjoyable. We enjoyed a dozen oysters on the half shell - nicely displayed and well explained. I had the panned fish of the day, which was halibut, and my son had the scallop entre'. We both had the pale ale. Great time!Thanks.4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat choice for trying riverGreat choice for trying river oysters. Halibut on special was amazing! You will smell like you were fireside after leaving since they use a wood burning for cooking, but well worth it for the authentic and great food!4/12/2013 12:00:00 AMsuper tasty foods, glutensuper tasty foods, gluten friendly, fun atmosphere, knowledgable staff and bartenders.4/10/2013 12:00:00 AMThe oysters were incredible! The oysters were incredible! Dinner was delicious! We had a very enjoyable experience!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMMy friend and I had a wonderfulMy friend and I had a wonderful experience at this restaurant. The food was excellent and our server, Alexandra, was lovely. She was very helpful to us in making our selections from the extensive menu. The hostess that greeted us was delightful, too. This restaurant has it all...great menu, great food and a cheerful staff!4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed our visit to RappahannocWe enjoyed our visit to Rappahannock Restaurant very much. My husband had the raw oysters (2 of each type) and I tried the baked oysters. We both very happy and enjoyed them with a bottle of Muscadet. For dinner we tried the Clams and the Fish of the Day which was Black Sea Bass and they were also great. We had the Apple Cobbler for dessert. Great dinner. We will go back4/4/2013 12:00:00 AMInteresting menu! Food wasInteresting menu! Food was superb, price moderate.3/31/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was amazing, andThe food was amazing, and the service, excellent. However, I don't recommend the Bloody Marys (orange?) and my husband's oyster dish was small for an entree. Overall, we loved it.3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMPoppin'Rappahannock is a popping spot! It's in a part of town that is becoming something of a restaurant row. Gorgeous buildings, quality restaurants all right down the block from Carpenter Theater. The oysters are amazing, drinks amazing, it's loud but in a fun way. Make reservations!3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFantasticFantastic ! The food and service was superb! Cannot wait to return.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMOutstanding! We love raw oystersOutstanding! We love raw oysters and until now we
could not find a good raw bar in RVA. I am an Event Planner and a foodie with very high expectations. The
food, presentation, atmosphere, service and knowledgable staff
make Rappahannock an excellent addition to our RVA
dining repertoire!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMGood food, good service, goodGood food, good service, good vibe. Would definitely go back again. A little confusion on an entree was met with explanation and apologies from several servers and the manager. Stuck with the entree and split with other dining partner. Pleasantly surprised that entree was taken off of bill at no request by us and no mention by the server. We noticed and tipped as if the entree had been on the bill. A nice ending to a good meal.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWow!The food was excellent. Our server was very knowledgeable and helpful in the menu selections. We had made a reservation and unlike some places, the table was actually ready and we were seated immediately. The service was very good. The server never mentioned any specials when she was going over the menu with us - only when she came back did she tell us that there was a special and it was exactly what I had hoped they would have. The special was shad roe and she was able to tell us exactly how it was prepared. The shad roe was cooked perfectly (not dry) and it was not smothered in a heavy sauce! My husband had the seafood cassoulet - it was also wonderful - he even commented that he wondered if anyone would notice if he licked the bowl!3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMDelicious and Lively...A Good Feel!Wow, The Rappahannock is killer!! All the hype about this great little seafood restaurant is correct and it is lively and upscale to boot!! Great wine, food and service. I had the Baked Oysters which are similar to Oysters Rockefeller with a twist. My companions had the steamed shrimp. The mixed lettuce salad is delightful. Small issue...we asked for bread and the server hesitated but said he could bring us some. He brought what was buttered, grilled sourdough...very tasty but when we asked for more however he said there would be a dollar charge for it. We whined about this saying bread should be free and unlimited as most restaurants. Don't think we will have an issue with that again. Please experience this gem..you won't be sorry!3/21/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat wineWe went there to celebrate a special event and liked it a lot. The menu and the wine list are short, but very appropriate. We had a fantastic white wine from the Basque region (Txakoli) that paired very well with the excellent oysters. The service was attentive, but not perfect and the background music was too loud. In summary, great place for food and wine, but a bit too noisy.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMTo loud for conversation atTo loud for conversation at a small table. But the food is good and the service was excellent.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AMSeafood place FinallyThis is a great place to go for a special occasion. This is not a place for children or unsophisticated teens. There was a great selection of bourbon whiskey for myself and my wife raved about her drinks (" The Spanish " and some other French name I can't remember). We tried some baked oysters and raw oysters with some trout roe. Very palatable and not too salty.
My wife had the hanger steak which was grilled to perfection and I had the scallops which were done and not rubbery.
Waitstaff was attentive and I had plenty of water to drink throughout my entire meal.
For dessert I had a great apple cobbler and my wife had the Panna Cota. I would rate this place Four and half stars.3/15/2013 12:00:00 AM
