Diner Reviews
  • "I was in Raoul's several times, but the last night was forgettable. I asked Fois gras and It came cold, the pate was good. After I took skate. It came swimming in a sauce with tomatoes and basil that killed the taste of the fish. The profiteroles were good"

  • "You can never go wrong eating at Raoul's. There's a reason it's been in business for 30 years. I have never had a bad meal there. It is always consistent. It's a cool, hip place. And the food is straight forward. The chef is not trying to be trendy. It's French Bistro at it's finest. I adore the place. I could go every week."

  • "this place is a great food great service we couldn't have asked for a better night I had the monk fish which was delicious and my wife had the chicken which is one of the best chicken she's ever had"

  • "Somehow laid back and bustling at the same time. Over the years, this place delivers the same great food and service that have kept it an NYC classic."

  • "My second time here. The foie gras was delicate, rich and made to perfection -- delicious."

  • "Had the steak fries, a nice steak cooked just right. The fries were nice and crispy! A bit dark restaurant, small and you sit VERY close to the table next door! (They actually have to move the table for you to get in and sit)."

  • "Raoul's was better than expected. I have walked by for years and finally tried the place. Food was very good for the price, wait staff was attentive and very polite. They couldn't seat is in a booth since they were being held for regulars most likely but the chairs were comfy enough. We will return "

  • "We celebrated our 22nd anniversary here. Try to get to NYC couple times a year so choosing this dinner was difficult. This was the perfect dinner. Service was excellent; relaxed yet professional. Great atmosphere. Our steaks & frisée salads were amazing. If I lived in the area this would be a go to spot for dinner. "

  • "Though established in 1975, Raoul's harkens back to an older vibe, redolent of Chanel No. 5, small waists, and Sinatra. The food is great, the wine list is small but well chosen, and the atmosphere summons your sexiness. You'll dream in French after dinner, I promise. Wait staff are superb, the neighborhood is fun. Book it well in advance. "

  • "We made a reservation for my girlfriend's birthday. The food was great, the wine was excellent and the host remembered I mentioned it was her birthday and brought out a birthday cake. We were sad that the garden room is now closed (not because of the restaurant but because of the way it was built it violates emergency exit requirements). Regardless the service was excellent as well and the waiter was extremely friendly. We are definitely coming back for another nice dinner. "

  • "The paintings need a finer curatorial touch to mix with the memorabilia. It would bring the once vibrant art scene back to life for so many people who still associate Soho with the vanguard of contemporary culture. Although the paintings and drawings selection represent a side of French taste for the accidental they should be more intentionally representative of vanguard portrait painters. "

  • "I had such a great time dinning at Raouls after a long trip from CA. Too bad they were out of my favorite Beef Tartar..."

  • "Really enjoyed the ambience here - great energy inside of the restaurant, and the decor itself is very reminiscent to that of a hidden Parisian bar/restaurant. I had the grilled octopus salad to start. It was good, but wasn't phenomenal. It would have been better if it had a little bit of a char to it, but it was good. I had the skate wing for an entree, and it was delicious. I've never had skate before, but it was one of the better seafood items I've had in NYC. Overall a great experience."

  • "I took my parents here for their 30th wedding anniversary and our experience was great. Obviously, the steak was our go-to meal, which didn't disappoint! Can't wait to go back"

  • "It was our first time at this bistro and we will be back. Good bread, good appetizer's, followed by two wonderful main courses. We tried to resist desert but over came and enjoyed that as well. "

  • "I use to go in this place since 7 years. As a french I am able to compare with french restaurants in Paris. At the begining it was just great. Since I have the feeling Raoul changed the Chef keepîng the same items on their menu. Big mistake. You get the air but not the song ! It was my last Time for me."

  • "Step through the door into Paris in the 80s - it was like a trip back in time. And what a good one. Service and food extraordinary. We had the steal au poivre, and it was delicious. Chicken also excellent. Our waiter was a little snooty - another touch of Paris - but he warmed up when someone in our group spoke some French, of course. Great night out, the way dining in NYC used to be. Crowded, loud and fabulous. We will definitely return."

  • "We had an amazing meal! The wine was OK, but the food really exceeded expectations as did the service."
    Dined on 4/14/2014
  • "Very good food, but too noisy, cramped booth, indifferent service. Maybe try it on a week night, not a Friday as we did."

  • "Sat at the bar. Bartender was friendly and a pro. It's a NY classic so can't go wrong with regular dining or even bringing clients here for entertaining."
    Dined on 4/2/2014
  • "While space in NYC is always at a premium, it seems Raoul's is eager to stuff as many patrons in per square foot as possible. Furthermore, the noise level was elevated due to the dubious song being played, mostly vocals, which makes it difficult for diners to think and speak without being distracted. In summary, good meals were spoiled by the cramp conditions and unnecessary noise."

  • "Ate here with two coworker buddies. It's a little cramped but the good, service and vibe are so memorable you aren't thinking "damn this is a tight squeeze" (which it is). Steak Au Poivre might have a bit too much peppercorn for some, but the sauce is just ridiculous."

  • "We have been eating here for quite a few years and it is just as good as it was. It seems they have lost the use of the yard and that is a shame. Inside is fine but you'll have to make sure reservations are made."

  • "Raoul's was exceptional in every way. It is not fancy, but is a real French bistro, with a very vibrant scene and great food. The energy in the restaurant is non stop. Service does a very nice job in a very tightly spaced room. But even with that, it is a fun experience. This is not a place to go if you want a quiet out with your significant other, but if you want a fun night out with great food, Raoul's is a great choice. The Chicken and the Steak Frites are both exceptional dishes cooked to perfection."

  • "This was about my fifth time at Raoul's. I have never been disappointed. The food is excellent, and the atmosphere is at once boisterous and intimate. I'm not sure how they pull it off, but this is one of my favorite restaurants in the City."

  • "While flying to NYC for vacation a local setting next to me told me Raoul's was one of his favorite restaurant's. I was staying in the lower east side so I decided to try it. I agree with the local's this is a neighborhood gem. The food was fantastic, service great."

  • "Every time we visit NYC we dine at Raoul's. As usual, we were delighted with our meal and the service was terrific. I would recommend this spot to anyone looking for a great NY experience."

  • "The food is outstanding. The Steak au Poivre and fries are the best! Creme' Brûlée is yummy as well as everything else eaten here. The wine list is affordable with some really nice selections. I love the booths and the overall ambiance of Raoul's. The artwork is so much more than expected at the this beautiful Soho gem. Art of all variety adorns the walls and spaces, they should offer art tours during the day when it's not so crowded and you can really appreciate it all. I will be back and am so thankful to have found this historic bistro that totally reminds me of Paris."

  • "This used to be one of my favorite restaurants in New York. You'd walk in and feel like you were stepping into a great old bistro in Paris. Great food, great wine, and great service used to be the rule. Now, instead, you have pushy staff who cannot seem to be bothered to help a customer. It took three requests to get water from our server and two to get extra pickled vegetables with our Foie Gras Mousse. That being said, the food remains stellar. The crab toasts are a dream, and we nearly licked the jar that held the foie gras mousse. Roast chicken and skate were both cooked perfectly, with unique and delicious accompaniments. The experience though would improve with better lighting and service."

  • "We just returned from a quick trip to NYC. So many restaurants to choose from, but for us, Raul's in our only choice! Once again, it did not disappoint! Already looking forward to our next visit to Raul's!"

  • "Does not look and taste like French food. More than American food. it is their own invention of French. I traveled to Paris and South of France before, It is not close to 1% of the French food. Disappointed"

  • "Long recommended by former New Yorkers. Great food, great ambience. Nice neighborhood feel. Since we needed earlier time for pre-theatre, it was easy to get a reservation. I would call further ahead if you want anything after 6."
