Rangoon RubyThe best Burmese I've had.The best Burmese I've had. Outstanding flavor! I tried it once and within 2 weeks was back. LOVE it!6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMAbove and BeyondRR won me over on my first visit with their food and service. I eat here as often as possible as it is a gem. I am a vegan although most of my friends are not so the cuisine works for all. I ordered the wrong appetizer and when it arrived the waiter saw my disappoint (at myself) and offered to exchange it with no charge. Rare to have that level of exceptional customer service.
Beginning with only my second visit the staff remembered me and made me feel valued.
The table next to us ordered different selections so we all chatted and described what we had chosen, raving about the food.
Another excellent visit.6/12/2013 12:00:00 AMFlavorful food, nice ambianceThe ambiance here was great - nice, open space that felt really clean. There was a nice drink list. The food was extremely flavorful.6/7/2013 12:00:00 AMFantastic & uniqueThis place was as good as all the reviews say. All of the food was delicious and the ambiance was very energetic because the place was packed! I would absolutely go back.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat foodThis is terrific, very happy to have something new and good in Palo Alto. The flavors are fresh, spicy (they can tone it down), and overall just great. Drinks are very good too. Some items had garlic in them and it wasn't listed on the menu description, so if you aren't such garlic fans (like us) I would ask when you order. But we for sure will be going back.6/5/2013 12:00:00 AMAmazing Burmese food, flavorsAmazing Burmese food, flavors were out of this world!6/2/2013 12:00:00 AMDecent foodLet me start off by saying this place has great service. Decor and ambience are very nice too.
Ruby Mai Tai - very average, almost lacks alcohol
Tea leaf salad - best out of everything from the night. But not as good as the one you get at Mingalaba (which I highly recommend)
Garlic noodle with BBQ duck - sounds exotic, tastes good but where is the duck? We saw may be 3 tiny pieces and the garlic is a bit burnt
Chicken lemongrass - if you like thai basil chicken then you'd like this.
Total bill$67 a bit too pricey! I was expecting to get a flavor of Burma and this place did not do justice to Burmese food. The food almost tasted like a combination of Thai and Chinese food. I'd rather wait in line for MIngalaba rather than coming here.5/30/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent -- get a reservation! We loved the crunchy salads with tea leaves and ginger, paratha, rich coconut milk soup with chicken and noodles. Our favorite entrees were the village catfish and sesame chicken, but we liked everything we tasted. The staff were friendly and attentive. Next time we'll come earlier and have dessert, too.5/27/2013 12:00:00 AMWe enjoyed all of our selections,We enjoyed all of our selections, especially the lettuce wraps, fiery tofu with vegetables and garlic noodles. The tables are very close together -- so much so that it is hard to get to and from your table. It's also very noisy, but desite all that, we enjoyed our meal and will return. Definitely make a reservation -- there was a line of people waiting for tables when we left.5/25/2013 12:00:00 AMAwesome foodThe chicken and shrimp biryani is delicious, as is the basil beef.5/18/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat Food, Great ServiceThe servers were very helpful and willing to discuss the dishes and make recommendations. The mango salad is very good, while we were told the tea leaf salad is most popular. Try the fried bread (parata?) and curry. Delicious!5/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent FoodSuch an awesome mix of flavors here. Plenty of vegetarian options too! Service is quite good.5/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat placeHave been here three times - the food was always fantastic! The blend of flavors, aromas and colors is truly exciting and the atmosphere is energetic. The cocktails are great and the wines are wonderful (they introduced me to Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc which I have bought several times since.)5/12/2013 12:00:00 AMWe were a family group ofWe were a family group of four adults and one child. The service was very good; plates were taken away promptly and water re-filled without asking. When asked about ingredients in a particular dish, the server was informative. Tea leaf salad was excellent . Made with fermented tea leaves, it had great contrasts in textures. It was a nice touch that the server mixed the ingredients at the table. We were there for Mother's Day lunch. It's a very pleasant place for a relaxed dining experience while enjoying burmese food.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMFirst Burmese Food ExperienceThis was our party's first time having Burmese food and I'm glad we chose Rangoon Ruby. The service is great, everything is clean, and the food is fresh and well-prepared. The dishes were a bit salty for our taste, but had great flavor. Some of our favorites included the Palata appetizer (Coconut Curry Chicken), Chili Basil Beef, Coconut Rice (a bit sweet), Fiery Tofu (a bit too oily) and Pumpkin Chicken Stew. We also tried the Tea Leaf Salad (garlic tasted burnt), Garlic Noodles (barely any garlic taste, but good with pickled spicy sauce), Samosa Soup (tiny portion and good flavor, but too salty) and Minted Jalapeno Pork (way too salty). If we wanted Burmese food, we'd come back to try some vegetarian dishes but ask for less salt.5/11/2013 12:00:00 AMSF-quality food, here in Palo AltoFlavorful food. I was glad that the staff listens when you say you like it spicy. Meal was great. I do wish there were a few more tea leaves in the tea leaf salad.5/10/2013 12:00:00 AMTea RexThe tea leaf salad was definitely the highlight. The garlic noodles were good, but not that much garlic flavor. We had it with duck, which was scarce and not very flavorful. Also had the lemongrass chicken which was a good dish, but again was missing a significant lemon grass flavor.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMMore servers neededFood good, drinks fun, and atmosphere welcoming, but as friendly and able as the servers may be, they are seriously understaffed. My noodle dish with duck arrived without the duck, and though they promised to bring some, it never arrived. (They did comp half the price of the dish to compensate.) My husband's beer arrived when he was nearly finished with his entree, and only after we had rather dramatically waved down a waiter from the other end of the room. Our table neighbors had similar problems; his request to have a dish heated up never was filled. It wasn't a matter of indifference on the waiters' part, they were sincerely apologetic, but the management simply needs to hire more bodies.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMChef's are from Burma superstarChef's are from Burma superstar - no wonder the food is so well done! No need to drive all the way to the City for great Burmese food any more. Love the Chihuly chandeliers.4/26/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was terrific. LotsThe food was terrific. Lots of good vegetarian options.4/24/2013 12:00:00 AMExceptional choice of we Asian foodWe have been here several times with different friends. Each time it has been excellent. Popular, reservations are honored but are a must.4/23/2013 12:00:00 AMToo noisy for kids. Don'tToo noisy for kids. Don't take your kids there. They are not kid friendly.4/17/2013 12:00:00 AMIf you haven't been here,If you haven't been here, it's definitely worth a try. If you like Thai food you'll love this. Must have reservations otherwise, you'll wait 45 minutes to 1 hour.. Try the: Tea leaf Salad, Coconut curry dip, Spicy Tofu, Catfish, and Cyclone drink .. Whoa!4/13/2013 12:00:00 AMI found this place on YelpI found this place on Yelp when I was searching for a not so expensive place in Palo Alto to have dinner with my old bosses in my recent visit to the bay area. I made the reservation online without knowing that I've been here before for lunch. (I used to go to lunch with a group of friends every Wednesday, and we would dine at different restaurants every week.) They have really good reviews and only two $$ so I was sold! :)
When we got to the restaurant, I realized that I have eaten here before. I don't recall being super happy with my lunch experience but the dinner experience was awesome! I would definitely return! Our server was very nice too! :)
Only 4 stars because it's not kid-friendly (I have a baby), the place is too small.4/8/2013 12:00:00 AMOverall remarkable with tooOverall remarkable with too many positive adjectives to list here, but two: the food and service. Will definitely be back...4/6/2013 12:00:00 AMVery attractive, modern &Very attractive, modern & well lighted small restaurant. The food is unusual & 2 of us had the Tea Leaf Salad which we both liked & found quite exotic. We've never tasted such flavors. An excellent balance of crispy & crunchy with soft veggies. The soft tea leaves are a very unusual flavor & an acquired taste. The waiter mixed the combinations of nuts, grains and vegetables while explaning the dish. I person would reorder this but I would try other dishes first. 1 person in our party had the garlic noodles with duck and considered it a new favorite. Although a small looking portion it was very filling. We shared the black sticky rice dessert again because of the adventure. Tasty but prefer traditional sticky rice w/coconut milk & mangoes.4/3/2013 12:00:00 AMService was great. Food wasService was great. Food was very tasty. Best food we had in Palo Alto.3/23/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had a delicious meal withWe had a delicious meal with another couple and noise wasn't a problem. Service was very good. We look forward to returning.3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMI have been to many AsianI have been to many Asian cities including Singapore and like Malaysian cuisine. I ordered and got a mildly spicy version and will go back there many times. Noise is a bit of a problem3/22/2013 12:00:00 AMAs good as it getsThis place is truly a gem! I am very excited to have found this rather remarkable place. Unique, enjoyable and definitely an important addition to Palo Alto's dining scene Rangoon Ruby is a restaurant that I will return to often. In addition to exceptional food there are a number of other small touches that make this restaurant stand apart from the rest including very dignified and classy owners that clearly take great pride in focusing on every conceivable detail designed to make their guests' experience special. It is clear that they treat their diners as if they are guests in their own home. Putting all of these special touches aside note that the main attraction stars brightly: the food is superb. SUPERB!!3/17/2013 12:00:00 AMExcellent ethnic food. GreatExcellent ethnic food.
Great variety of dishes.
Wonderful staff.
We were blessed with a window seating.
Great deco.
Must try!3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMGood Burmese food in the PeninsulaRangoon Ruby is a good spot for Burmese in the Peninsula, and is a great alternative to braving the long lines at Burma Superstar in the city. Ate here with a friend and we ordered the tea salad and some curry. Food came out in good time and was flavored very well. We shared bottle of wine which didn't cost an arm and a leg. Overall, it was a pleasant dinner experience. My only criticism was that the tables are grouped rather tight. I felt at times that we couldn't have a good conversation because the people next to us were so close.3/7/2013 12:00:00 AMReally good Asian FusionAlways been wanting to visit here with my partner. We both loved it when we came here during Valentines day. Nice and friendly service and the food was great :) Will come back again.2/14/2013 12:00:00 AMFood and service were great.Food and service were great. Lively, young atmosphere. No bargain, had 3 dishes plus a dessert and a beer and paid $72 all-in.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
