  • "The tea leaf salad was good and so is the soogi but I don't find the pumpkin chicken stew interesting - quite bland! Quantity is quite small like French cuisine and cost quite expensive! Our server is quite good and attentive though but I don't think I will come back. Need to go somewhere else to get full."

  • "It is so nice to have such tasty and interesting food! A real change of pace from the usual (and abundant) pizza and Italian restaurants. The food @ Rangoon Ruby is clean, fragrant and delicious. I tried okra for the 1st time ever, it was crisp and crunchy in a curry sauce that wasn't too spicy and hot but just right. We had the tea leaf salad that was crunchy and flavorful, the chicken lettuce wraps that were cool and crisp, the eggplant and prawns and the okra and egg curry. All excellent and it went especially well with a cool bottle of Pinot Grigio (sp?)."

  • "My sisters and i had our yearly night out here and were - each of us picky, demanding eaters - thoroughly wowed. The food was awesome, like take me back soon please - awesome. The service was really friendly - which is kind of a rare thing at a hotspot like this. And the atmosphere was arty and sophisticated and surprisingly gorgeous, i think i would even say luxurious. Gaudi-esque architecture? Love it! Hand-blown glass ceiling sculpture that looks like a Chihuly? Am i a the MOMA? Love it! All i ask is that this place sticks around and doesn't change a thing."

  • "I was so excited to try Rangoon Ruby after checking out the menu on-line. Unfortunately the food was very mediocre. I went with a group of people so we ordered 5 different dishes. The best by far was the shrimp curry. It had the most flavor and the shrimp was not battered or deep fried. The sesame chicken was battered and so overcooked that it was chewy. The beef curry had no flavor and the chunks of meat where tough. The noodle dish looked so appetizing when they brought it to the table, but we were all so disappointed when we tried it. The noodles were mushy and the dish lacked focus and flavor. Finally, the pork was chopped in small pieces and again, had no distinct flavor."

  • "We went for lunch to celebrate a friend's birthday. We all had great food; the mango salads were wonderful and the hot entrees with rice also were good. the waiter we had could not have been more helpful; he was attentive but not intrusive. They brought the guest of honor strawberry ice cream with a sparkler in it for dessert. The restaurant is very pretty and inviting."

  • "Fresh,tasty, hot, distinctive flavors from that part of the world served in a very attractive but noisy setting. It only takes one noisy table of revelers to set your teeth on edge but the food is sooooo good. But watch out for the noodles. They are overcooked especially the rice noodles. There are so many good dishes to choose from. I always start with Smoked Tea Leaf Salad which is best in Bay Area. Just forget the noodles. I like the Burmese rice and all the hot dishes. Yes, I have traveled in Burma"

  • "We found Burmese Cuisine not to our taste. We had a lovely waitress, Kim, who made suggestions to us since we were unfamiliar with most of the food. Unfortunately, we found the entrees quite foreign to our taste buds and therefore did not enjoy our meal. Many people have recommended Rangoon Ruby(and many of the diners present seemed to relish their meals) and we think those who wish to experience different fares, may really enjoy the restaurant."

  • "Sitting at an outdoor table in front of the restaurant for lunch was enjoyable. Great people watching! A nice menu selection of both salads and entrees. Prices are high given the slow service and lack of attention to detail. I had to get up twice to ask for my waiter. Took more than ten minutes for my credit card to be returned. Need more staff to handle luncheon guests."

  • "This would be one of the very best restaurants in the area if it were not for the deafening noise level. They apparently had a restaurant architect design a ceiling with beautiful curves, but which I suspects amplifies the sound. Food and service were fabulous, but my wife and I almost had to use sign language to communicate. Their employs will undoubtedly have workers' compensation claims for hearing loss."

I cannot have lunch or dinner without ordering the Tea Leaf Salad, it is one of the super stars of the menu and we never ever have left overs. This is one of my favorite local restaurants and whenever I have someone from out of town visiting, I take them here because I know it will be a home run each time. This last time my guest ordered the coconut water and it truly was coconut water served in the coconut itself, delicious and gorgeous!. "

  • "Appetizers were excellent; sesame beef is addictive...hated the broccoli dish which tasted of acrid burned garlic...in some areas the tables are too too close together so the servers can barely squeeze by and it's difficult to enjoy conversation because strangers are about 10 inches from your table...all in all nice food, but ambience could use tweaking.."

The service has always been very good and ambiance is light and modern. Even though it is a smallish place, they make the most of their space."

The odd thing is they don't serve coffee, not even drip, so when we ordered dessert and the tried to order coffee, they said "you can go across the street and get some at Peets..." Really? So strange. It ended an otherwise wonderful experience oddly."

  • "First went here for lunch and loved it! The tea leaf salad is wonderful and the service is very good! Went the second time for dinner and had another great experience. The salmon was delicious, as was the Ruby's shrimp and mango chicken. The eggplant was very good. The catfish was just so so -- too many bones to enjoy so didn't finish it. Mango chicken needed more sauce. Love this place with the only complaint being that there need to be more vegetables included in the main dishes. They are basically just meat or veg with sauce. I ordered broccoli added to my dish for extra charge and they had to check with the chef first. Ordered the string beans as a side and they were the highlight!! The desserts are very good -- especially the ice cream"

  • "I was very disappointed with Rangoon. Their tea salad lacked the citrus from lime and was dry. Their curries did not vary and it tasted as though they used the same curry for all the dishes and just changed the ingredients put into the curry. The place was so noisy that we had to shout at our table to talk to eachother. Rangoon is not even close to Mingalaba in Burlingame. I was hoping that Rangoon would be as good as it would give me an alternative to Burmese food because Mingalaba is always so busy. I frequently have visited Burma (Miyanmar) and am there at least once per year."

  • "Would give Rangon Ruby 5 stars but for one issue. The ambience, service and food are all wonderful but it was horrendously noisy- 5 bombs for sure. Impossible to carry on a conversation. It's a small place so don't know there's anything you can do about it. But if you value conversing with friends I would eat outside if the weather's okay."

HIghly recommended for prompt and very attentive service, large menu with an excellent selection, not to mention the food is especially tasty and not commonly found in other restaurants: pea leaves were over-the-top as was pork and pumpkin stew,"
