Every dish was delicious. Great pacing, we were there for 1.5 hours but never felt like we were waiting for anything. The drinks are good, but a little expensive. I think we lucked out and got a good table. Our corner table was far away from everyone else. Some of the side 2-person tables looked like they may be a little too close together for comfort. For a SF restaurant with great reviews, it was surprisingly intimate and not packed. This is a huge plus. The service felt very personal. They aren't taking on more work/tables than they can handle.

Range is one of our favorite restaurants in SF. Been going for special occasions for a long time. Last week was the first time it felt a little less than. The menu used to change - it seemed to be the same as it was when we were there a few months back, main courses did. The desserts used to be outstanding. They really were not this time. The starter salads were a little weird; something with a kind of tasteless apple was odd. It's hard to not feel spoilt in this city, we are lucky, even spoilt, to complain! The waiter was great. But the food just seemed more mediocre this time for such a great place. Sorry, Range. We'll try again, but....bit underwhelmed this time.

My wife and I ate here for a special evening out. I guess I just missed the boat on this place....despite many positive reviews I'd read online, neither one of us were very impressed. We both thought everything (appetizers, main courses, desserts) were overpriced by at least 30-40% given the food quality, ambiance, decor, service and neighborhood. My steak arrived barely lukewarm and was a small portion (as were all our portions, despite the prices). Service was only "OK"....our waiter tended to be rather scarce. All in all, it's not a bad restaurant, but all things considered, there are plenty of better options in SF, especially for the prices Range is charging.

There is a no no in the food industry for waitress. I have ordered dessert and it did not come. When I asked about it she told me twice that I did not order any dessert. We kept arguing until she remembered that I did order a dessert. But whatever!

Restaurant was good but imagine my shock when I got my parking tab in as NEIGHBORHOOD at 14.75 for 2 1/2 hrs. Limits my probability of a return: 3 block walk , $15 parking, no valet, and too noisy. Michelin Star? ambience? etc. how do you spell overrated? Restaurant was stuffy and needed a drafty door opened to cool it down. No salads to speak of.

The food was excellent and unique with great flavor, everything we had was delicious, but our bill was $350.00 for 4 of us. The back room was a bit crowded and stuffy with low ceilings-I felt a little claustrophobic but they did have the back door open which helped. It seems they did turn on some air because it seemed fresher and not so stuffy after a while. Now granted, we did order 3 apps, 2 bottles of wine, 3 entrees plus another app as an entrée, plus 3 desserts, but it still seemed expensive to me. Perhaps that's the SanFransisco way??? The service was excellent-couldn't have been better. Very attentive and timely. The front entry is inviting, so if you can sit there, I would suggest it.

There were 4 of us for dinner and we all loved our appetizers and entrees. The salmon was moist and the skin perfectly crisp. Chicken liver mousse was superb. Loved the bavatte as well and the pork shoulder. Peach tart was a major disappointment but server took it off the bill when we complained about our dissatisfaction. Very happy with the meal and casual ambiance and would return.

The appetizer of halibut had two microscopic shreds of halibut in a tasteless watery liquid. My date had the beef entree that tasted like nothing more than mouth fils of salt after 5 glasses of water he asked for something else of which they brought out chicken. My entree of coffee rubbed pork also tastes of nothing but salt. During the course of the evening of you set your fork down for a moment one of the staff was trying to wisk away your plate even though clearly you were still eating. They rushed you the entire time. Poorly trained staff, cooks that shouldn't be allowed to prepare food for even the homeless people if you like any of the above chart erotica of a resturant then go to range otherwise steer clear very clear.

We arrived and were promptly seated at a comfortable table. Noise level was low, cocktails were interesting and tasty, appetizer (seaweed quail) was delicious. The desserts were also scrumptious. (Goat cheese tart and peach tart) The entrees however both the halibut and the steak were so salty it was hard to find the other flavors. I would go again for drinks and snacks or dessert.

Had dinner w/ our two 20 something kids. Their food was great. Husband & I love fava beans so ordered the fava bean fritters, which were just so-so... like high priced falafel balls. We just chalked it up to ordering the wrong thing. We will return because everything else was very much to our liking. Fabulous chicken, great roast. The appetizer pasta w/ fresh pesto was amazing. Wonderful cocktails. Very comfortable and pleasing ambiance. Friendly, attentive service.

Good, but not spectacular. Service was absentminded. We had to ask for our drinks and for bread twice before either arrived. The server unapologetically spilled part of my husband's drink. Cucumber nectarine slaw was ok. Mostly cabbage, it was a salty, far less creative dish than I had hoped for. Same for the bean salad my husband had. The entrees were solid, but not better than what I make at home. The pork shoulder was tasty, but fatty. The accompanying creamed hominy was mush and the collards tasted old and overcooked. I look to restaurant meals to bring out the best in their ingredients. This meal, although rich, highlighted the mundane. Neither my husband nor I remember his entree. The strawberry dessert wasn't worth the calories.

When Range first opened it was by far my favorite place. Amazing food with a relaxed atmosphere and reasonable prices. Sadly, the last couple of visits, the food hasn't been nearly as good. It's still fine, but not the level it was a while back. This last visit, everything was very oversalted. I like salt, but the leak soup (for example) tasted like flavored salt water. They just need a little more care in their food, and they can get back to where they used to be. Right now, I can't recommend them.

Really nice scene. A great place to show our Williamsburg Brooklyn dopplegangers the Mission vibe as we did that night. Starters were excellent and well-conceived. However...my main, a confit duck leg was dry and the 'granola' topping for the farro bed on which the confit sat did not work (i.e., maybe it really was granola). Otherwise, recommended for a great little dinner.

Would I recommend Range to a friend? Well, sort of, yes. I'm hoping the entrees were just a QC issue, and perhaps we were there on a bad night. We really wanted to LOVE this place, we really did. Great ambience, great service…..a fun neighborhood place to be, for sure. Our Trout Appetizer was fabulous, and we were excited for what was to follow. Sadly, Salt and luke warm food, at best. We had the salmon & the steak. Wouldn't order either again. Fit for foodies? Maybe, on a good night.

We really enjoyed Range. Their dishes were creative yet approachable. They use ingredients in unusual and surprising ways, like a savory granola made with rye, cherries and hazelnuts as a garnish for duck breast. Our dessert was a peach cobbler that was refreshingly not-sweet. We loved it, but it’s a pretty daring thing to serve to people used to cloying American desserts. This was one of the better meals we’ve had this year, and I’m eager to return.

We had heard about Range, but hadn't managed to get a reservation. However, we needed an early dinner before a show at the Marsh, so succeeded in seating a party of five at 6PM. The decor is understated but attractive, the service friendly but in obtrusive. Great cocktail menu. All the food was PERFECT! I had an escarole soup, and my husband had a wonder cabbage, cucumber, nectarine, pumpkin seed, and vinaigrette slaw that was out of this world. All the main dishes slammed it - steak, salmon, and halibut. Divine chocolate dessert. Noise level rose at the end of the meal, but conversation was still doable. Could use a tad more acoustical dampening. We like to talk.

Love the ambiance at Range: low key but hip without the overdone minimalism. Service was attentive without being overbearing. But the food was a little hit or miss. The escarole soup was flavorful, but the nectarines and pistachios tasted odd in contrast. Maybe corn or something a little less sugary? The baked gnocchi as actually a giant rectangle; not the small, bite-size pieces I was expecting. the vegetables on top were nice, but heads up that the broth is really, really strong and salty. It overpowered most everything on the plate. Would have liked a second vegetarian entree option, but at least there was one!
