RangeRange is all it is cracked up to beDined on a busy Saturday night with four friends and had a wonderful time. Lots of variety in the menu and everything was perfectly prepared. Roasted asparagus as an appetizer was consistently done and not caved in like when I make it at home. The duck leg was the best I have ever had, the skin perfectly crisped and the meat tender. We shared 2 desserts but I wish we'd had more! The wine list is good and reasonably priced and if you buy wine by the glass, the pour is generous. The service was impeccable. They even left all the plates until we all had finished our meals. Great evening and I can't wait to return. Not hard to get to by BART. Thank you.6/15/2013 12:00:00 AMAppetizer was homemade noodlesAppetizer was homemade noodles with pistachio pesto and garbanzo beans. It was outstanding.
Wouldn't normally order the chicken at a restaurant like this, but it was recommended and was definitely the right choice. Tender, juicy, flavorful meat, and the skin was seasoned to perfection. The beef was also very good. The sauce was slightly sweet and complemented the meat nicely.
We had a great waiter who was attentive but not overbearing.
Ambiance was good - nice and not stuffy.6/14/2013 12:00:00 AMUnpretentious PerfectionI stumbled upon Range while killing time before a reservation elsewhere. It compelled me from the sidewalk, the menu looked fantastic and the other restaurant did not look as good. Luckily we were fit in. I went back again the following weekend. The olive oil poached halibut with crunchy brown rice, braised endive and asparagus with lemon verbena nage is killer! I loved the housemade egg pappardelle with pistachio pesto, fava bean and goat feta and the English pea salad with buttermilk dressing. All paired perfectly with the "3rd Rail" off the menu, but so good: Bulleit Bourbon sour. The meal was blissfully finished with a s'more like treat: Graham ice cream, salty, crunchy chocolate cake with bergamot mint marshmallow.6/8/2013 12:00:00 AMRange is Still the OneEven as other excellent restaurants stake their place in the Mission, Range remains one of the originals and the very best. A combination of great food and vibrant atmosphere that is hard to match, and a tribute to the far-sighted founders.6/6/2013 12:00:00 AMNever disappoints4th time dining here and all aspects of the experience were excellent. Great cocktail, "Brooklyn" variant of the Manhattan. Alaskan Halibut cooked to perfection, seasonal spring pea salad with radish and a wonderful spicy buttermilk dressing. We came with friends from London and they were very impressed. We always count on Range for consistency and creativity.6/3/2013 12:00:00 AMCocktailsTheir specialty cocktails are amazing and embrace the season6/1/2013 12:00:00 AMhave enjoyed Range off andhave enjoyed Range off and on over the years. Am enjoying what appears to be a more recent exploration with middle eastern and north african spices -- ras el hanout et al -- in their dishes. and of course, the finesse is clearly evident in how they fire both their proteins and vegs -- all come together in perfect harmony on the plate.5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat food, awful espressoThat says it all, would go back in a heartbeat, just wouldn't order coffee again5/29/2013 12:00:00 AMFood for thoughtDon't be put off by the limited menu! Every appetizer, entre and speciality cocktail required some thought. Both appetizers (fava bean pasta & the marinated squid) were delicious and packed full of flavors artfully arranged allowing each one to stand out while blending perfectly at the same time. our entres were equally as thoughtful! One might find the portions a little small for sharing, but I found them to be the perfect size to enjoy an app, entre and a desert without rolling out the door. The cherry tart with creme fraiche ice cream was divine. Pleasantly unpretentious with an unfortunate volume level of 10.....perhaps just the Friday night crowd.
They have earned their Michelin star5/24/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was excellent --The food was excellent -- well prepared, beautifully presented and served.
Reservation was not honored -- 15 minutes late. Very noisy.5/23/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat cocktails, fabulous food.We invited a work couple that I had never met and we had a great time here. The cocktails were an amazing start. We ordered a few starters, all very good and not overly fussy, which I enjoy. My halibut was excellent, my husband had rabbit, which he enjoyed. The others had salmon and also the halibut. We didn't order the chicken for which they are known. I never order chicken in a restaurant. Overall, the place is a lovely find in the Mission, the place to find little gem restaurants. Highly recommend.5/22/2013 12:00:00 AMrange never fails to impressamazing food..from start to finish. love the bottle rocket cocktails. salmon was outstanding. chocolate financier dessert was to die for.5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb! This restaurant is a must-visit for people who love fresh food served creatively and very well. Our waiter was very knowlegable, pairing our dishes with appropriate wines (and not going for the highest prices). The evening was exceptional. We went mid-week and the restaurant was packed ... so a reservation is recommended. Don't miss Range!5/21/2013 12:00:00 AMThey have a seasonal menuThey have a seasonal menu so they may not have the same entrees etc. as when we were there. My husband got the halibut with carmelized fennel and chickpeas and blood oranges, which we LOVED. Unusual flavors to pair together but it worked very well. I had the artichoke barigoule with ricotta dumplings and spring vegetables and it was lovely and delicate and delicious (the sauce was salty, which I enjoyed but others might not.) The strawberries and buttermilk panna cotta dessert was fantastic, as were our cocktails. A lovely evening but definitely a splurge for us. Don't go here thinking you can get away with a light meal, even the small plates were pricey.5/20/2013 12:00:00 AMConsistently goodGreat service in a casual environment. Food was good as usual. Crowd can get a little loud.5/17/2013 12:00:00 AManother 5 star at rangewhat a gem. can't believe the effete mr bauer removed range from best 100. what a shame. food was amazing. little duck tortolini exquisite, rabbit so tender and perfect, the topper was the halibut poached in olive oil. wow and the pecan financier a great way to end deinner. found an aglianico 2008 on the menu neever seen before and perfect. the service is attentive and engaged, never ignored or too much. bithia the manager of the night was welcoming and added all the little touches that make one feel special
thanks again range, you're our #15/15/2013 12:00:00 AMOne of the best meals we haveOne of the best meals we have ever had plus great wine and drinks. Our waitress was super and even got is the recipe for one of our cocktails5/5/2013 12:00:00 AMThis restaurant continuesThis restaurant continues to be one of my favorites in the City. My husband and I have been dining here since the first year they opened and the food never disappoints. The food and cocktail menu changes, so the diner never gets bored with it.
Even though the staff may change, the service remains exemplary.5/3/2013 12:00:00 AMWe had an incredibly noisyWe had an incredibly noisy group of 6 next to us and we could not even hear each other. Once they left, the waitress apologized and provided us with complementary dessert.5/2/2013 12:00:00 AMPretty goodAsparagus dish was the best I've ever had. Halibut amazing. Wines by the glass great. Sauce on pork shoulder was over reduced and salty, egg and sausage dish didn't really work. Desserts were great except for the pecan one, dry.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMbest meal in a LONG timeseriously amazing. every city I go to I try to have a meal as good as the one I ate at Range. Amazing tastes, every one. Drinks, omg. Go. Now.4/30/2013 12:00:00 AMNot sure why they lost theirNot sure why they lost their Michelin star when other lesser restaurants have gained one. The cocktails and food are excellent, well executed and presented. They don't over salt the food and everything is fresh and colorful. Finally they gave one the most reasonable wine lists in town. One of our favorites, would go back anytime.4/27/2013 12:00:00 AMFun but expensive and limited menuLimited menu and quite expensive but a hot spot and fun place to dine. Go for the cocktails, but you may leave hungry... Needs to be more selections of salads and appetizers... And maybe little bites with your cocktail like warm olives and bread?4/25/2013 12:00:00 AMThe food was definitely theThe food was definitely the highlight ... which is exactly what you want in a restaurant. Several at our table had the halibut, which was sublime. I had artichokes with ricotta dumplings. The dumplings were fine, but not notable - but the artichokes were perfect. Tender, not one bit of the tough leaf left on the portion - and the broth they were served in was flavorful. I sopped it up with the bread. Will definitely return - and next time hope to be able to sit in the4/22/2013 12:00:00 AMWow! I can't think how toWow! I can't think how to begin. This restaurant is just about perfect. The food is unusual, well prepared and absolutely delicious. I love their use of fresh seasonal ingredients. The bar makes a fantastic manhattan and you can get unusual bourbons that are great on the rocks.
The service is wonderfully attentive, without being snobby. The wait staff is very knowledgable about menu items. Next time we are in San Francisco, we will be sure to eat at Range.4/18/2013 12:00:00 AMImpressed with outstandingImpressed with outstanding food and great service!4/16/2013 12:00:00 AMThoughtful, intentional, calm,Thoughtful, intentional, calm, delicious.

Good food, interesting menu, though limited. Portions not huge. Somewhere between casual and fancy. A good choice if you're roaming the Mission.4/9/2013 12:00:00 AMGreat modern vibe and theGreat modern vibe and the food was excellent; interesting menu and flavors.3/30/2013 12:00:00 AMSuperb! This was one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time in SF. thanks, range!3/24/2013 12:00:00 AMRange fit for foodiesExcellent food. Itsy-bitsy portions - plan on getting adding more courses if you are at all hungry.3/18/2013 12:00:00 AMWhat a great place to go to.What a great place to go to. Not much to see outside, but once you enter it, the bar is pretty cool, and the dinning room in the back is just as sweet. Great ambiance, the service was great, and the food was fantastic. I would definitely come back here, and would recommend to friends.3/16/2013 12:00:00 AMEverything on the conciseEverything on the concise menu from appetizer to entree to desserts were creative, combining the familiar with the adventurous in one beautifully presented dish. Yuba "lasagna" may have been better off leaving out the cheese and calling it something else, but still delicious. Very lucky to have a gotten a table only two days in advance! French press coffee is way more than 1 serving, BTW. More like 3!3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMWould definitely go back...Wonderful experience. Fun atmosphere, great service, cool drink menu, outstanding food menu. Shared seven dishes across the menu and they were all beautiful. Mustard greens with avocado and blood orange, quail, spring pasta, two fish preparations, an exquisite lemon tart, and bread pudding with creme fraiche ice cream. Enjoyed every dish. Outstanding quality of ingredients. Nice place but not fussy at all. A real gem.3/14/2013 12:00:00 AMBest in SF in this price rangeMy wife and I have decided that Range is our favorite staple in the mission. The food is consistently good. Hearty, yet sophisticated. Range presents the kind of dishes that can't be sized up in one bite. You're less likely to find something that's going to wow you with fireworks, and more likely to find something that's savory and smooth that creeps up on you by the end of the dish. Then, you're left craving it for weeks. I'm still craving the clams with sausage and peppers that I ate a year ago. I imagine I'll be craving the pork shoulder I just had for years to come.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMNo M Star? No matter. Range rulesNever disappoints. Vibrant atmosphere, friendly staff, phenomenal food.3/13/2013 12:00:00 AMOnly reason our well presentedOnly reason our well presented and yummy food did not get 5 stars is the soup and the mussel au jus were way TOO SALTY.1/23/2013 12:00:00 AMFoodie flairDefinitely a foodie hotspot. Good for tastings... portions tiny. Waitstaff very knowledgeable.1/1/0001 4:00:00 PM
