  • Great Traditional American Italian Eatery

This American Italian restaurant bills itself as the oldest in the United States and is located within the Italian market area of Philadelphia, which is well worth visiting. Certainly the historic photographs, (dark) interior and food are all consistent with the strong culinary tradition of Italian-Americans. The service is good and helps reinforce the overall enjoyable experience. I particularly enjoyed the fennel sausage with peppers and spaghetti, as well as the cannoli, which are made in house. Highly recommended.

We found Ralph's at the spur of the moment on Open Table and made a reservation for within 15 minutes. The food was excellent, we both had chicken dishes. It is close quarters in the first floor dining room so it's not the place if you need to have a private conversation, but the staff were polite, friendly & professional and the food was awesome. The prices are extremely reasonable. And they have Valet on the weekends! Couldn't ask for a better experience all around. Go & Enjoy, you'll be glad you did!!

Took my mom and aunts here for their first visit to Philadelphia, hoping that Ralph's would deliver. Our waiter was cold and offended by their questions regarding the menu. His inability to engage also resulted in him ordering incorrect entrees for 2 of the 4 guests. The marinara sauce was bland and way too acidic to be enjoyable. Disappointed with the service and food quality.

We were very disappointed in Ralphs. The aroma was excellent. The seating is VERY cramped, people walking to their table would bump our plates. The waiter could hardly get to us to take our order. He returned only once to deliver our wine. The wine was sour,we ordered the veal ... Veal & Peppers and "Ralph's Famous Veal Parm" ... it has to be good? Shoe leather would be more descriptive, over cooked, dry and tough. The pasta was mushy. The waiter wouldn't make eye contact with us and never returned. The bus boy delivered the bill. too expensive for inedible! The manager was gracious and forced us to take a gift certificate ... When we told him he said "You had the veal." Wasting one night on Ralph's was enough for us, we will not be back!

I took my fiance to Ralph's Italian restaurant for her 30th birthday and the meal that we shared was amazing! She started with a caesar salad and I had the fresh tomato and mozz - Both dishes were delicious. For an entree she had the Manicotti and I went with the Gnocchi - Again, both dishes were delicious. The quality and freshness really showed through for both of our meals. It was as if Grandma spent all day over a hot stove preparing these two delights. The only knock that I could pin on this restaurant is that the table we were seated at was small and cramped. The price was good: $76 for two entrees, two salads, and two rounds of drinks each. We skipped dessert because we were both so full; a real testament to how good the pasta was!

The staff was rude and disinterested in our dining experience. The place was very busy on the Saturday night we went and the staff looked overwhelmed and unable to keep up. They use multiple food runners on the same table so they miss courses all together. The food wasn't bad but wasn't special either. The think this place holds a nostalgia of it's older patrons and is riding on the fact that they are currently the oldest Italian restaurant in the country.

This was my third time at Ralph's and I really do love it here. I brought my family here for the first time and was nervous as they are very selective with their restaurant choices but they loved Ralph's. The crowd was a little loud, however once a certain table left our Ralph's experience was spot on as usual. This is a neighborhood gem and I will keep coming back.

First of all, best Martini I ever had. The bread wasn't warm, but the food was very good. My daughter had gnocci, I had Veal Marsala, and my husband had the saltimbocca. All were very good. The Cannolli cake was as great as I read it was. The tables are close and the noise is above average but the staff is friendly and helpful and you the decor takes you back to a previous time. It was indeed a great experience.

Located in the Italian Market, this restaurant serves traditional Southern Italian cuisine, that has been perfected by a century of refinement. The tables are a little tight and the décor is dated, but the food is marvelous. The veal is to die for and is prepared with perfection. Unless you are going to go at an off hour reservations are a must. When you are in the mood for this type of cooking, this is a must place to visit.

I met a man on the plane when I was on my way to Philly and he said this was the place to go! I sent Italian – close tables but nobody was next to us… The general manager, who has been there 30 years plus, talk to us the whole time. It was so much food we couldn't finish our dinners... But we have to make room for the cannoli!

I am from Boston (hello, North End!!) Food here was good but pricey. Had cheese ravioli for $13.00. They were not heated evenly (sauce had cold spots) and I wasn't actually sure they were homemade - they were listed in the homemade specialties - and sauce didn't really taste like a definite homemade wonder either. Portions were good. $8.00 valet parking is ridiculous. Should be free!!! I was cramped at our table and waiters had to swing trays over my head and the others in my party to get to the table that was past ours. Not a huge desire to go back here, but certainly better than chains.

Small place with limited to no street parking. Valet is provided at a cost of $8.00 per car. Service was great as food came out hot and on time. Food was standard Italian food, good but not great. Nice neighborhood establishment to have a relaxed dinner. Bill was incorrect as the tax was calculated to high. Tax is 10% on alcohol and 6-8% on food. My original bill was at 21% on all. Check your bill.

I would not recommend this restaurant. They do not provide a good experience and their food and menu is very ordinary at best. The service is lousy and rude, you are,are to feel like and inconvenience, it's like they could care a less if you were there supporting them or not. And god forbid you bring in a voucher and get stuck In a corner table and nearly ignored. The GM who greets you (term used loosely) is rude, pushy and then some. This place is based on a reputation from years past. We are now telling our friends to consider any other Italian -American eatery OTHER than this place. We will never go back.
