There are way too many good Italian restaurants in the city - many of which I enjoyed more then Ralph's - to worry about going here and being treated like you are bothering them by asking questions. We had a few very minor dietary restrictions and the response from the Ralph's staff was less then pleasing."

This place is not over the top - it does not try to be an Italian restaurant... it simply is! A great find - a gem!"

  • "We've been wanting to go to Ralphs for along time based on their reputation of having great food. We were not disappointed! My husband and daughter had manicotti and they both loved it. I had spaghetti and calamari. Delicious - calamari was perfectly tender and the sauce was tasty. Should also add that my 1 year old granddaughter loved the meatballs and bread! Would love to go back! We sat on the 2nd floor and it was a little noisy, but it was packed so it couldn't be avoided. The only concern I had was the highchair straps were a little beat up and should be replaced."

  • "Husband and I were looking for a nice casual Italian restaurant the night before the 4th of July, and this hit the spot. We had a craving for good pasta and Ralph's did not disappoint; the sauce was even better than our usual go-to place back home in NJ. And, we had a Groupon which made it even tastier! Will probably come back again and bring family members with us. (Our only annoyance was a table of two women sitting up front who sat long after--at least 45 minutes--their meal was done and wrapped, acting totally oblivious to the two couples waiting for a table--grr. How can people be so rude and inconsiderate!?) Other than that, we enjoyed our evening, from appetizer through coffee and dessert."

  • "Loud. So loud we couldn't talk to one another without yelling (we were on the second floor). I know the noise level is out of the restaurant's control, but this is for other people's reference. Rude server. Food was meh. Did I mention our server was rude? I was embarrassed we took anyone here he was so rude. We had a party of 6 (my husband, myself, & our parents), so gratuity was automatically added, which irritates me because he didn't deserve the automatic tip he got. My food came out 15 minutes later than everyone else's. Bread tasted stale. Half of us did not like our meals. I'm not one to review restaurants, let alone give a poor review, but we'll never be back. It was like paying to get insulted, eat bland food, and not hear a thing."

  • "We try to go to Ralph's every couple of months. The food is always excellent, service is never rushed and the staff attentive to your needs. The food is authentic Italian, full of flavor. My favorites are the muscles in red and the veal parmagiana. I may try something different in the future but I don't get there enough to want to miss this meal."

  • "Wow... so much cheese and cream... they smother the food with it. it's way too much. it was very average and even less. very basic food and tomato sauce that doesn't justify the high prices. but i have to admit the pasta itself (especially the ravioli) was good and fresh. the sauces and everything else was ok. smothering it with cream and cheese and fat doesn't make it better. it makes it too much."

  • "We purchased a living social deal to Ralph's as my boyfriend has never been to Ralph's or to South Philly for dinner. I have been to Ralph's, but several years ago, at least. Food was very good, service was very good, except that our waiter seemed to have a bit of an attitude and very short with us - almost rude, actually. Service other than that, was very good and we had a nice time, nice dinner and some good wine. We'll be back though hope not to get that same waiter."

  • "If you want authentic italian and reasonable prices, you can't beat this place. It is relatively small, we were there mid-afternoon on father's day but I suspect it gets a little tight and noisy when it is crowded. We loved the food, very traditional veal, pasta, with a variety of sauces. The veal parm, which two of us had, was among the best we've ever had. Spaghetti and meatballs were great, and good meatballs are hard to find. Rigatoni with chicken in vodka sauce was great. Also shared a great antipasto to startHad a wonderful bottle of Sangiovese, reasonable. Our waiter couldn't check on us enough, kept bringing us more fresh bread and was very enthusiastic. We'll need to go back and try the rest of the menu."

  • "We ate here on a Wednesday night. Reservation was honored. First floor packed. They sat us on the 2nd floor and there were only 1-2 other tables filled. The service was very attentive. Husband enjoyed spagehetti in white clam sauce and I had chicken parm. Portions large. Cannoli cake came very highly recommended, thought it was average. NY style cheesecake better. It may be the oldest in the US, but I did not think it was so special."

It is consistently good--although I've probably ordered the chicken parm the last dozen times there. Why mess with something that works? An old, reliable standard in the Italian Market."

  • "I took my family to Ralph's this past Sunday. Reservations are a good idea. It's a popular place. Ralph's opened in year 1900, and has stayed in business all these years for one reason. The food is outstanding. I ordered Veal Capricciosa, which was incredible. My wide ordered sea bass - which she liked. I think - if you're coming here - you need to order traditional Italian fare, so my choice was a better one. We had delicious drinks, and the waitstaff was helpful and friendly. In my opinion this is the place to go to get top notch Italian in Philly."

  • "Took my dad here since he only eats 4 different things and one of those things is veal parmigiana. I heard Ralph's has a good one and was not disappointed. Love the fact that the pasta is served in a separate bowl so they entire plate can be covered with veal. Nice and crispy, cheesy, and great sauce complement the size nicely. Our server (David) was great, and I really enjoyed the quiet, classy atmosphere. Looking forward to a return visit so I can try the lasagna. "

But, inexplicably they canceled our second reservation of a table for 6 without contacting us, thus we showed up on a Saturday night with 12 people and only one table for 6 on a busy Saturday night. They tried to accommodate us but in essence banished us to the third floor, squeezed into a table for 10, in everyone's way including some surly waiters unhappy with their "squeezing" past us the rest of the night. Restaurants who value clients should never cancel Open Table reservations without CALLING them first and explaining...good restaurants CALL to confirm your Open Table reservation..."

  • "A disappointing experience, but perhaps my expectations were too high. We arrived at 5:35 for a 5:30 reservation and were told we could wait outside, our table would be ready momentarily. After 15 minutes, were were called in to a not very nice table by the door. The good part was that it was a beautiful day, so waiting outside wasn't the worst, but why did we make a reservation? We waited for the next available table like anyone off the street would have. I ordered a homemade fettucini in tomato sauce. If the pasta was homemade, they do a terrific imitation of boxed pasta. I can't speak for others in the party, but they seemed more pleased than I with their dinners. I can't imagine going back with so many dining choices out there. "
