  • "The food is great, try the veal cap and mussels red you won't regret it! The server was very helpful with all of our questions and made our dinning experiance wonderful. No wonder they have been around for over 100 years , I can't wait to eat here again!"

  • "This is not gourmet but when you want "old fashioned" "like Momma made" (if Mom was a great Italian cook), this is the place in S. Philly. Excellent mussels -plentiful, superb "gravy". Same for Veal Marsala and my wifes Chicken Parm. Fine House Chianti and excellent bar including well made/chilled pre dinner whiskey sour and post dinner "French Kiss" coffee. Did request upstairs via Open Table -seated down. Dont think they look much at these requests. Similarly, had "Groupon" problem with voucher saying OK Sat. night, which to me meant in addition to other nights, but apparently means ONLY for Saturday nights (we were there on a Sunday) but not sure if that is their prob or Groupons. Anyway- great Italian food. Always reliable."

  • "This wasn't our first visit to Ralph's nor will it be the last. Fantastic food - Italian style. Wait service at just the right pace."

  • "South philly flair at its finest! A worthwhile stop! Mussels, Italian classics - pasta & gravy with meatballs, and tiramisu do not disappoint."

  • "The entire experience was like eating at an upscale MacDonald's. It's crowded, the tables are too small (for a party of two), the server was curt and the entire experience was rushed. Have to admit though, the food was excellent."

  • "Very cool that this is THE oldest Italian restaurant in America, old building ,pretty solid homemade food, nothing fancy, but good basic ingredients and good taste. Even the gravy was good!Great experienced servers, really good house wine.....born and raised in Philadelphia and I'm glad to have finally made it to Ralph's!!!"

  • "We were rushed from the moment we sat down. The waiter was irritated when we asked questions about the menu. We were never even asked if we wanted coffee or desert. Just brought us the check!!!!! Food was average at best. Will never return. Way too many other nice restaurants in Philly."

  • "I had veal parm. It was overbreaded overcooked and dry. The pasta accompanying my meal was very overcooked and soggy. The receptionist was very nice."

  • "We had an early dinner at 4pm, so I can't say what it would be like later in the evening. The staff was wonderful and friendly, the lasagna was delicious, very tasty sauce and the sausage as well."

  • "I have not been here for 30 years since I was in college. I brought my daughter and the food did not disappoint. The prices are reasonable, the service was great, and the food was just as good 30 years later"

  • "So glad I decided to eat at Ralphs before the Phillies game. It has been 30+ years since I've been to Ralphs but the food is still amazing. They have totally renovated the place and tje upstairs is beautiful. We had ravioli, manicotti, eggplant parm & chicken florentine and evrry dish was delicious."

  • "The best spaghetti sauce ("gravy" as it's known in South Philly) you can find."

  • "This place was absolutely amazing! It was cozy - authentic - and the food was superb! I have been going to a restaurant that is very similar to Ralphs and unfortunately closed down 2 years ago - I have been on a hunt to find a place that had amazing muscles and a good Italian meal, so glad I stumbled upon Ralphs and gave it a try! This place is not over the top - it does not try to be an Italian restaurant... it simply is! A great find - a gem!"

  • "The food was excellent!!! It's a little small but has 2floors. The only small complaint I had was when I got there, they just let me sit around for about twenty minutes until they could find where to seat us. The staff was very friendly!"

  • "We've been wanting to go to Ralphs for along time based on their reputation of having great food. We were not disappointed! My husband and daughter had manicotti and they both loved it. I had spaghetti and calamari. Delicious - calamari was perfectly tender and the sauce was tasty. Should also add that my 1 year old granddaughter loved the meatballs and bread! Would love to go back! We sat on the 2nd floor and it was a little noisy, but it was packed so it couldn't be avoided. The only concern I had was the highchair straps were a little beat up and should be replaced."

  • "I've heard about how incredible and authentic Ralph's is for a long time. I was excited to finally check it out with my family when they were in town last week. The food was absolutely AMAZING and I can see what the hype is all about as I will definitely be returning again soon! Its truly a gem and a place that both locals and tourists shouldn't miss!!"

  • "Husband and I were looking for a nice casual Italian restaurant the night before the 4th of July, and this hit the spot. We had a craving for good pasta and Ralph's did not disappoint; the sauce was even better than our usual go-to place back home in NJ. And, we had a Groupon which made it even tastier! Will probably come back again and bring family members with us. (Our only annoyance was a table of two women sitting up front who sat long after--at least 45 minutes--their meal was done and wrapped, acting totally oblivious to the two couples waiting for a table--grr. How can people be so rude and inconsiderate!?) Other than that, we enjoyed our evening, from appetizer through coffee and dessert."

  • "Loud. So loud we couldn't talk to one another without yelling (we were on the second floor). I know the noise level is out of the restaurant's control, but this is for other people's reference. Rude server. Food was meh. Did I mention our server was rude? I was embarrassed we took anyone here he was so rude. We had a party of 6 (my husband, myself, & our parents), so gratuity was automatically added, which irritates me because he didn't deserve the automatic tip he got. My food came out 15 minutes later than everyone else's. Bread tasted stale. Half of us did not like our meals. I'm not one to review restaurants, let alone give a poor review, but we'll never be back. It was like paying to get insulted, eat bland food, and not hear a thing."

  • "Food was good, service much less so. There are way too many good Italian restaurants in the city - many of which I enjoyed more then Ralph's - to worry about going here and being treated like you are bothering them by asking questions. We had a few very minor dietary restrictions and the response from the Ralph's staff was less then pleasing."

  • "Dinning at Ralph's was a great experience. The food was excellent. They will make a dish that was not on the menu if you request. The waiters were very knowledgeable and could not do enough to keep you happy."

  • "We try to go to Ralph's every couple of months. The food is always excellent, service is never rushed and the staff attentive to your needs. The food is authentic Italian, full of flavor. My favorites are the muscles in red and the veal parmagiana. I may try something different in the future but I don't get there enough to want to miss this meal."

  • "Had not been to Ralph's for six years. When I lived in Philly, was a regular. The food was exceptional -- just as I remember. The service was very good, very attentive. Will be eager to go back on my next trip to Philly."

  • "Best Italian food ever, although a small salad should be included with the meal. Why isn't a salad included?"
    Dined on 6/21/2014
  • "Wow... so much cheese and cream... they smother the food with it. it's way too much. it was very average and even less. very basic food and tomato sauce that doesn't justify the high prices. but i have to admit the pasta itself (especially the ravioli) was good and fresh. the sauces and everything else was ok. smothering it with cream and cheese and fat doesn't make it better. it makes it too much."

  • "Great Italian dishes in a classic Italian setting. An old row home in the heart of the Italian district. From the bread and wine go the salads all the way thru to dessert. What a meal"

  • "Found this little place a while ago and have been keeping it a secret except to a select few of my friends. Well it can get very busy however the wait is always worth it. Once you find it you will go over and over again, Great dishes!"

  • "I took my husband there for Father's Day and it was outstanding. The service was top notch. We never had to ask for anything our waiter was on top of it. Food was excellent! Veal Parm superb. Anthony the maitre' d was outstanding!"

  • "If you want authentic italian and reasonable prices, you can't beat this place. It is relatively small, we were there mid-afternoon on father's day but I suspect it gets a little tight and noisy when it is crowded. We loved the food, very traditional veal, pasta, with a variety of sauces. The veal parm, which two of us had, was among the best we've ever had. Spaghetti and meatballs were great, and good meatballs are hard to find. Rigatoni with chicken in vodka sauce was great. Also shared a great antipasto to startHad a wonderful bottle of Sangiovese, reasonable. Our waiter couldn't check on us enough, kept bringing us more fresh bread and was very enthusiastic. We'll need to go back and try the rest of the menu."

  • "We purchased a living social deal to Ralph's as my boyfriend has never been to Ralph's or to South Philly for dinner. I have been to Ralph's, but several years ago, at least. Food was very good, service was very good, except that our waiter seemed to have a bit of an attitude and very short with us - almost rude, actually. Service other than that, was very good and we had a nice time, nice dinner and some good wine. We'll be back though hope not to get that same waiter."

  • "Very tight, noisy room. Food ok but over priced for portion size. Salads over priced for size. Service rushed and made you feel as if they wanted you to hurry up and eat and get out; this on a night when it was only 2/3rds full. We would not go back."

  • "We ate here on a Wednesday night. Reservation was honored. First floor packed. They sat us on the 2nd floor and there were only 1-2 other tables filled. The service was very attentive. Husband enjoyed spagehetti in white clam sauce and I had chicken parm. Portions large. Cannoli cake came very highly recommended, thought it was average. NY style cheesecake better. It may be the oldest in the US, but I did not think it was so special."

  • "I've been dining at Ralph's off and on for about 30 of its 100+ years in business. We wanted a good and speedy dinner near the ballpark before a Phillies game. It is consistently good--although I've probably ordered the chicken parm the last dozen times there. Why mess with something that works? An old, reliable standard in the Italian Market."

  • "I took my family to Ralph's this past Sunday. Reservations are a good idea. It's a popular place. Ralph's opened in year 1900, and has stayed in business all these years for one reason. The food is outstanding. I ordered Veal Capricciosa, which was incredible. My wide ordered sea bass - which she liked. I think - if you're coming here - you need to order traditional Italian fare, so my choice was a better one. We had delicious drinks, and the waitstaff was helpful and friendly. In my opinion this is the place to go to get top notch Italian in Philly."
